News from Oxford, High Wycombe
& the surrounding areas

last updated Sunday, December 13th 1998 - 2200hrs

Only 10 shopping days to Christmas including Sunday and then we are nearly at the end of another year. Over 15,000 hits to these pages since June 1997 and over 12,000 hits since its revamp in January of this year. Thank you all for your interest. Since Summer David has been driving with The Oxford Bus Company and Malcolm passed his PCV test on Monday of last week, so both your Editors are now "Professional Drivers".

Sunday has seen me (Malcolm) in Oxford again and a few interesting pictures are included with one of the Sunday Park & Ride 300 service entering Oxford over Magdalen Bridge to avoid serious traffic delays on the Folly Bridge and the Abingdon Road.

On the Stagecoach front an additional Dart SLF seen was 821 on the X39 still at Oxford with 818, 822 and 823. As mentioned last week all the remainder have now been withdrawn are shortly to be on their way to new homes.

A further reseated Volvo B6 with red roof in service on Rose Hill is 833.

SCOTTISH INTERLUDE
Malcolm visited Glasgow on Friday and Saturday last and we include a few interesting pictures.

For arriving passengers at Glasgow Airport requiring transport into the City, Arriva Scotland
provides four Dennis Dart SLF/Alexander ALX200's in a dedicated livery on service 905.
This is a Citylink service and tickets are valid on the 901 as well.

citylink501.jpg (30549 bytes)

As mentioned tickets are also valid on Scottish Citylink service 901 which was operated
on the day in question by a very nice Volvo B10M/Van Hool R reg coach
belonging to Parks of Hamilton. Saturday 12th December 1998.

The bus station in Glasgow was host to National Express coaches bound for London (far left)
Oxford - service 739 (centre) and Stranraer (right.)
Malcolm would be back in Oxford (by air) several hours before the 739 coach.

How many of you remember the trial of an articulated Volvo coach on the Oxford Tube.
Here two similar coaches are seen in Glasgow bus station where reversing does not seem
to be a problem. All the Stagecoach artics have now gathered north of the border !

Finally remember when, earlier in the year, we had a Stagecoach Western Volvo in Bus Points livery
operating in Oxford for a time ? Here it is back home in Scotland.  (Saturday December 12th 1998)
