This last week has seen ever increasing roadworks in the City Centre in connection with the Oxford Transport Strategy. Diversions are becoming commonplace and on Thursday the road outside Debenhams was totally closed during the evening. Work continues on the removal of the old L.M.S. Station on the Botley Road and its transfer to Quainton Road near Aylesbury. It is also suggested that there will be a delay to the introduction of the new scheme, possibly for a number of weeks.
OXFORD BUS COMPANY.
New buses
for the Oxford Bus Company are now advised as:
101-120 T101-120DBW Dennis Trident
II's with Alexander ALX400 low height bodywork.
(These buses will be 13'8" to enable them to pass under Botley
Road bridge on the 400 service.)
First deliveries will go on to the 300 service, Redbridge to Pear Tree.
Deliveries are expected to start in May and be complete by July.
801-815 T801-815CBW Volvo
B10BLE's with Wrights Renown low floor bodywork.
Due in the late Spring. They will enter service on the 52 road.
On the Oxford front Volvo B10B nr 623 has received a repaint and in the process lost most of its badging. This also happened to the Marshall Darts on repaint. It no doubt helps in maintenance but is nevertheless a sad fact to see the badging going.
623 was on 52 road on Saturday, an unusual sight as this is a single door bus and 52 road a dual door route. The new SLF Darts have also been seen on 16, 52 and 60 roads in recent weeks covering for the more normal fayre on these routes. Also from time to time Volvo B10Bs appear on 300 and 400 routes at peak hours with both Northern Counties and Plaxton variants in use.
Mercedes 714 from Wycombe and now withdrawn was in Oxford depot on Saturday last minus fleet names and numbers awaiting disposal.
By the way now is your chance to sample the remaining few months in service of the Olympians and Titans on the Park & Ride services. The five Alexander bodied Olympians, 225-229 are expected to go to Wycombe. These buses have only worked Park&Ride services since new.
STAGECOACH OXFORD.
Further Stagecoach MANs have been seen carrying badging on both front and rear and we can bring you photos of same in this weeks report.
We were in error last week when we reported that Tube coach 14 (N43MJO) had been re-registered. It is in fact 23 (N46MJO) which has received the registration 6253VC. A picture appears of ex N41MJO which is now 4828VC.
We have also caught up with 521, the Olympian in overall advertising livery. It was not easy to get a good picture as although the sun was shining on Saturday morning, the low height on these winter days makes for shadows and very bright patches in the City centre.
Still no news on the impending delivery of the new Tube coaches week ending 27/2/99.
