Translated excerpts from an article from German car mag "Auto Bild", end of Aug. 2000 written by Michael Specht
...More space offers a new derivative of the successful
A-Class: A variant lengthened by 15 centimetres which probably will be
named A160L. Room which exclusively will be for the benefit of the rear
passengers. Because since the start of the A-Class in autumn 1997 its constructors
and the board of management got coarse scolding that there's no real reason

((Opel/Vauxhall)) Astra already are significantly over 4 metres ((Golf:
4.149m, Astra 4.110m)). Now it is are a bit more than 3.70 metres ((3.72m
to be exact)), which make the small difference. The "Long" will be at the
dealerships ((in Germany)) already in the next year ((2001)), for nearly
identical prices. Because for that bit of more steel Mercedes shouldn't
hold up the hands greatly. ...
