Most Americans think of the Fourth of July
as a day of celebration. It is that and much more than just
grilled hot dogs and hamburgers with drinks and melons. It
represents the birth of our great nation beginning July Fourth,
Seventeen Hundred Seventy Six. It is a day for flying our flags,
which was first resolved by the Continental Congress on
June 14, 1777. The flag then only had Thirteen Stars.
It gained two more, Vermont and Kentucky, and has now grown to Fifty.
Our flag represents rights and freedoms which have been fought
for several times, and paid for by the lives of countless Americans.
We need to be reminded of these words from time to time:
Famous Quotes of Famous Americans
"We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men
are created equal."
-Thomas Jefferson
"I know not what course others may take, but as for me,
give me liberty or give me death."
-Patrick Henry
The Pledge of Allegiance
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands. One nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Another great American tradition for the Fourth of July is
fireworks. I have always like fireworks and especially enjoy
seeing the displays the pyrotechnics set up and operate.
