Anya waited until she was finally at the front of the line. "One ticket
to Paris, please!" she annouced proudly. The ticketman wrinkled his
face and grimaced. Another person getting out of Soviet Russia. "Exit
visa?" "Exit visa?!" "No exit visa, no ticket!" the man yelled as he slammed
the creaky wooden doors in Anya's face. She pouted and turned away.
What would she do now?! "Psst", an old woman said. "See Dimitri.
He can help." Anya's eyes brigtened. "Where can I find him?" "At
the old palace," the woman whispered.
"But you didn't hear it from me!" As Anya went to go find out
more about Dimitri and locate the Catherine Palace, Dimitri and Vlad across
town had other ideas on their minds. As they watched the cascade of Russian
women walk by, all prancing with too much or too little energy in their
step and using fake Upper-Class accents, Dimitri and Vlad exchanged tentitive
looks. When would they find the right girl for them?!
Dimitri mentally went over the check-list for the Anastasia imposter they
needed. She had to have blue eyes - the Romanov eyes. Nicholas's
smile and Alexandra's chin wouldn't hurt either. And, of course,
she had to be around the same age and same physical type! Most importantly,
she had to have the same spunk and spirit that the real Anastasia had.
This was going to be a hard part to fill. As the last girl was rejected,
Vlad sighed resolutely. "That's
it Dimitri, game over. Our last kopeck gone to this flea infested
theatre, and still no girl to pretend to be Anastasia!" "We'll find her
Vlad, she's here somewhere, RIGHT under our noses!" he reassured his friend.
"Don't forget! One look at this jewelry box," he said, tossing up
then catching the old music box he'd spared from the Revolution ten long
years ago, "and the Empress will think we've brought the real Anastasia.
And before she catches on we'll be off spending the 10 million rubles!"
Even though Vlad nodded in agreement, he wondered if Dimitri's prediction
would really come
true... Meanwhile, Anya was slowly making her way to the Catharine Palace.
As the two groups prepared to collide, their minds each concentrated on
the one thing they wanted most...would they get them?
