Dancing was never something I had done, but doing it with Dimitri felt natural and right - the perfect place to stay for the rest of my life. Our feet barely touched the floor, our moves were perfect...could this actually be love? If it was, then I wanted some more! But first I'd have to go through the trials ahead of me - including a horrible nightmare of my family that almost brought me to THEIR tragic end.

When everyone reached the Tasha (the ship Anya, Dimitri, Vlad and Pooka
were sailing on to get to Paris), Dimitri gave Anya a present -- a new
dress. "I bought you a dress," Dimitri
said. Anya held it up and frowned. It was several sizes too large. "You
bought me a tent" Dimitri didn't laugh. "Come on, just put it on."
He left the cabin in a huff. As soon as he was gone, Anya held up the dress
and twirled around the hallway. "A dress... hmm..." Of course it needed
A LOT of work.
But she couldn't remember when she'd had a new dress of her very own. Especially
one so beautiful! But she'd never let Dimitri know happy he'd made her.
Anya put it on after altering it, and she looked just like a real princess.
"Now that you are dressed for a ball, you will learn to dance at one," said Vlad as he told Dimitri to dance with Anya. "But, I'm not very good--" Dimitri protested."Once-two-three, One-two-three," counted Vlad as Anya and Dimitri began to dance."That dress is really beautiful," Dimitri whispered to Anya nervously. "Do you think so?" she asked. "Yes, I mean, it was nice on the hanger, but it looks even better on you." Anya smiled as they twirled across the deck. Little by little, their awkward steps blossomed into graceful dance. Eventually their steps slowed, but Dimitri still held her in his arms. Anya and Dimitri were falling in love. That night, as Anya slept in their cabin, Rasputin sent her a nightmare. Sleepwalking, Anya went up on deck, She dreamed she saw a family swimming in a beautiful pool. Just as Anya was about to leap in to join them, she saw the face of a horrible creature. "JUMP!" it ordered. Suddenly Dimitri ran onto the deck. "Anya, no, no!" he cried as he grabbed her around her waist. Starled, Anya awoke from her dream. She looked down at the churning water and then threw her arms around Dimitri, sobbing. "The Romanov curse... I keep seeing faces, so many faces." "It was a nightmare," he said as he held her, "It's all right. You're safe now." |
