2nd Michigan Documents

These are documents I received from David T. Hardy. As soon as I can get a printing of them I will be able to start writing down what is in them.

Fox1.jpg and Fox2.jpg are the two pages of the letter from Col. Fox of the 27th Mich. to Col. Humphrey of the 2d Mich., regarding the swap of men.

Humphry1.JPG and Humphry2.JPG are the two page letter from Humphrey to Fox on the same subject. Both these came direct from the regimental files in the military history branch of Nat'l Archives in Washington DC.

card1.jpg and card2.jpg are cards I found in the regimental files. The cards were compiled in the 1880-1890's when the regimental records were being organzied into a sort of database (largely to decide pension issues). On these particular cards the people in charge puzzled out what had happened to the men in Schofield, Ricaby's, etc. companies. This was complicated by the fact that (1) the independent companies had been organized after one bimonthly muster, and dissolved before the next, so there was never an official roll; (2) Most of the off involved were shot up in short order and (3) when they searched in 1892, the 27th Mich's muster sheet for May 1864 was missing.
