Tools to use when grooming your newf. You would benefit from having on hand a rake, dematting comb, slicker brush, and a fine toothed comb.
My routine is while they are in the tub i shampoo them and than while the shampoo is in i rake them getting all the dead undercoat out. The undercoat that is dead turns a red color. After combing them i rinse them off completely. I than get out my METRO or my K-9 II dryer. i prefer to use the metro to get most of the water out in the first 1/2 hour of blowing them. I than switch over to the K-9 II dryer as it has 2 powerful motors that do wonders, as the coat dries the dead hair flies.I than proceed to use the slicker brush, and where there are any matts i use the dematting comb.

Now is when you use the fine toothed comb. I use it by the ears, the sides, neck, and back legs before the feathering starts. I than take a thinning shears and scissor the ears, chest, undercarriage, and the neck. This takes a lot of time so i give them breaks inbetween and usually it is an all day job depending on how heavy the coat is. I groom completly every 3 months and in between if they need a quick bath they get one.
Now you must keep the feet pads cleaned out. Remember they have webbed feet. most breedsHAVE SKIN/TISSUE BETWEEN THE TOES, SOME HAVE A BIT MORE CONNECTING TISSUE THAN OTHERS, AND IT CAN BE OBSCURED BY THE LONGER HAIRED BREEDS. Be careful and take care not to splice the webbing.I use a clipper in the pads. You might use a scissors, you can buy scissors from pet stores. i clean out the pad and inbetween the toes i clean that out. I than round the foot. Do the nails monthly. It is good to start them from a young puppy to get them used to sitting for their feet. I start mine right away, doing one foot a day.Go slow and be patient, some of the giant breeds go thru fear stages, so you want to make this fun, give them play time right away after, or a favorite treat.
