About Earline

My newest iguana is Earline. She was given to me by a very nice woman in
Wisconsin who needed to find her a new home. Earline arrived here
on June 18th, 1999 via air freight. I took her home and unpacked this beautiful
45" STL 2 year-old female iguana! She was kind of scared at first, and she
ran smack into the wall of her new cage when I first let her out. Hers is
also based on the PVC cage design, just like Larry's is. Anyway, she still has her
original tail, and has a lot more green in her than other iguanas of her
age and size that I have seen. She doesn't eat as much as Larry right now, but
I am sure that will change. She does like granola bars, especially blueberry!
Anyway, she is much larger than Larry, but they get along just fine. I am going to
convert them to free-roaming soon so that they can have ample space to
move around. Earline's current cage is 6' tall by 4' long by 4' wide. Combined
with Larry's cage, they really take up a lot of apartment space. I don't think
I will breed them anytime soon, but I will consider it for the future. Of course,
that may not be my decision.

June 2000 - After moving to a new apartment, I have built a new environment for my iguanas in

my closet. I put down a tarp over the original carpet to prevent stains, and I then put a

section of indoor/outdoor carpeting over the tarp. This section is to provide additional protection,

and it prevents loud noises from the lizards walking on the tarp. I then sectioned of the clothes area

of my closet with PVC and wire-coated mesh. I left an access door so that I could get into this area

if needed. I also put shelf paper on the closet shelves to prevent stains and to make for easy cleanup.

I then removed the closet door and replaced it with a PVC/wire-coated mesh one. This allows air

circulation and a view of the iguanas. Next, I hung two fluorescent light fixtures above the long shelf

to create the basking area for the iguanas.  After hooking up the timer through the closet light fixture,

it was all set to go.
