KINGDOM: ANIMALIA (ANIMALS)

A Note on Construction

Skip the introduction and jump to the animal links:
general information and taxonomy | miscellaneous phyla | sponges | cnidarians and ctenophores (hydras, corals, anemones, jellyfish, comb jellies) | echinoderms (urchins, sea cucumbers, star fish) | platyhelminths (flat worms) | annelids (earth worms, polycheate worms, leaches) | mollusks (bivalves, snails and slugs, squid and octopi, nudibranchs, sea slugs) | arthropods (horseshoe crabs, velvet worms, water bears, crustaceans, spiders, centipedes and millipedes, insects) | chordates (lancelets, sea squirts, all vertebrates)

All animals share two basic characteristics: they are multicellular, and they obtain energy by injesting other organisms. Animals are also generally mobile, but this is not a hard and fast rule. Other than this brief line, I will spare you a general introduction to animals in favor of presenting more detailed overviews of each phylum.
