The Tailed Disc Oakblue is rather rare
in Singapore. It is one of three species of the atosia group which
are instantly recognisable by having a slightly different coloured patch
on the forewing disc.
In Singapore, one of the other species,
Arhopala epimuta epiala, which resembles A. atosia, except
that it is tailless, is the more common species of the two.
The males are a light purple
blue above with the forewing border a thread. The female is typical of
the Arhopala genus, with broad dark borders. This mating pair was
photographed in the nature reserves near the Upper Peirce Reservoir. |
