This
species is one of several Rapala species found here in Singapore.
The males are red above with broad black borders almost like a small specimen
of the Cornelian (Deudorix
epijarbas cinnabarus). The females are brown above.
The species possess a white-tipped tail with the usual Rapala lobe
between veins 1a and 1b. The species can further be characterised
by its ochreous undersides as is shown in the photograph which depicts
a female specimen.
The species is not often encountered,
but occasionally makes its appearance in the vicinity of flowering trees.
It is a rapid flyer like most members of the genus, but can be observed
at close range when it stops to rest after feeding.
It has been documented that
its green and black caterpillar has been found on Eugenia grandis. |
