The
Lemon Emigrant is represented by at least 6 different 'forms' in the region
- the 'crocale' forms with the antennae black above and the 'pomona'
forms with the antennae red above.
The butterfly is fast on the
wing, and is a strong flyer. It is found in urban areas as well as
the nature reserves. The host plant, Cassia spp, is a common
roadside tree in Singapore. Occasionally, the species is observed
in abundance, almost in a migratory flight around the island.
This male, pictured here, has
narrow black markings on the forewings above, and unmarked on the undersides.
Here, it rests amongst the leaves of its host plant before taking flight
again. |
