The Hawaiian Islands are host to only two butterflies yet an amazing diversity of moths. The
islands are situated 2000 miles from the nearest mainland. This extreme isolation
has made it very difficult for organisms to reach Hawaii. However, those that made
it to the islands rapidly speciated, resulting in hundreds of species of insects
from only a few colonizations.
My web page introduces the work being done on the Lepidoptera (moths & butterflies)
of Hawaii, and provides links to other web pages concerned with conservation, ecology
and evolution of Hawaiian flora and fauna.
