Spike Sleeps Where He Wants To!

Meet Spike!

Spike is a 11 year old, 24 pound brown tabby cat. He showed up in my garden over 11 years ago, as a sickly, undernourished, 1 1/2 pound kitten. He had broncitus, worms, and ear mites. I really did not want this new intruder, but I took pity on this friendly ball of fur. The vet guessed him to be about 10 weeks old.

Note: The space between his eyes is wider than an average man's thumb.

So this is Spike's page. He has been introduced to the world, via the world wide web.

Why he grew so large....I fully believe that his size was the direct result of Hill's Science Diet catfood. This is because I had a white male at the same time, who was 8 weeks old. They were from different litters, and city's. The white cat also grew extra large, weighing in at 20 pounds, before he died when he was 6 years old. At 10 months old, both cats weighed over 18 pounds. Neither cat would eat any other catfood....not even "Fancy Feast", nor would they drink milk. This is why I am convinced this is the reason for their extra-ordinary sizes. I have never before had, or seen cats of this size.

Spike is truly a gentle giant. He has never been declawed, but has never attempted to scratch or bite anybody. He is given regular baths and blow dried by me, and never attempts to get away. I also clip his claws regularly to protect the furniture. :-)) Yet, he has them resharpened within a week or two, using his scratching "rug"... scratching posts are too small for this guy. So are all "normal sized" litter containers.! His litter "box" consists of a large, plastic storage container. It is cleaned every day, (a MUST) and new litter every two to three days. :-)) I would prefer a normal size cat, from 7 to 12 pounds! But, I am very attached to Spike, just as he is.

He can sit up and beg, and he shakes "hands". He also knows his name and has never been called "kitty". When I let him out for exercise, he comes immediately when I call him.

So, this is Spike's story. An extra-ordinary cat who amazes all who see him, even me, to this day!

I regret to add the ending to Spike's Story. Spike died at home June 10, 2004 at 15 years, 3 months old. He died quietly as I held him. We had a remarkable time together and I shall always miss my gentle giant.

To return Home.
