Amid the media hype that has surrounded the launch of the long-awaited Visor from Handspring, it's been fascinating to see that the feature that has gained the most attention hasn't been the great pricing, the choice of translucent designs, or even (my personal favorite) the USB port.

No, what's garnered most of the praise has been the Springboard expansion slot, which allows you to add extra functionality to your device by installing a variety fax/modem, paging, cellular phone and even Tiger Woods golf game expansion modules.

But wait a minute, Palm-size PCs have always had expansion capabilities through their less sexily named CompactFlash slot. So what's the big deal? At this stage it's very difficult to tell. But one thing's for sure: it's only with the recent launch of innovative new products like Casio's Digital Camera Card and Socket's Digital Phone Cards that the CompactFlash slot is finally beginning to show some of its exciting potential. Up to now, all we've had to choose from has been an uninspiring collection of (expensive and power-hungry) memory cards, LAN cards, and Fax/Modem cards from a small number of vendors.

There are a number of reasons for this state of affairs, with perhaps the most important being that the relatively small size of the Palm-size PC market compared to, say, the notebook market makes it difficult for peripheral vendors to justify the investment required for developing CF card products.

Handspring seems, however, to have taken a different approach to the major Palm-size PC vendors (of which Casio is the major exception) by driving the development of its expansion cards rather than relying on third-party peripherals vendors. It's going to be very interesting to see if their strategy is more successful.

Firstly I'd like to thank all those so far who have taken the time to fill out our survey. The survey, which we put on our page last week, has been receiving an excellent response rate and we intend to keep it posted until the end of this week. We will then on the following Monday announce, in conjunction with our survey sponsers ParaGraph, the 5 lucky winners of the CalliGrapher 5.3 software.

The obvious reason for putting up a survey on your site is to get some feedback about what your readership like about your site, and more importantly -what they don't like about your site or feel is missing.

I'm the first one to admit when you're working on an information site that you tend to get a little off track and start to focus on the information that you personally find appealing rather than keeping in touch with what the rest of the world finds interesting. It's just more fun that way. However we want you to know, we are listening.

Here's what we're hearing:

MORE TIPS… despite our slow loading screenshot graphics, the overwhelming consensus is for more tips. We had no idea you loved them so much. We will figure out a way to bring you more tips. In the meantime any one out there who has some tips they want to share with our readers until we get our act together can feel free to lend them to us. We certainly won't steal the credit!

MORE REVIEWS… at least we had a pretty good idea that these were popular. However to do them as in-depth as we do takes so much time that we don't get as many done as we'd like. We're going to try and pick up the pace but in the interim we have introduced recently a "Top Picks" section that lists (presently) software and accessories that WinCEbiz prefers with a few comments for your reference. Try and think of them as mini-reviews.

MORE UPDATES/NEWS… despite the fact that a large number of people say that they only visit the site only once a week they also want more regular updates. Meeting a daily publishing deadline is one of our biggest challenges. Whenever there is worthy news we publish daily (except Sat. and Sun. when we sleep late and watch old black and white movies). If you're a news-maker and you want your press releases read, don't hesitate to mail them in to us. We will either publish them or link to them.

A CE FORUM… a few people have requested we add a forum. The funny thing is we've had a forum available for months… send us your opinions and beefs! Pick a fight with someone over some heated topic! Pick a fight with me! Just remember there is no greater satisfaction than espousing your views in print, potentially to millions of readers.

When the rest of you have filled out the survey this week you'll hear more from me.
