Remote Engineering has announced the released of Version 1.2 of its PocketVIEW CAD Viewer application for the Palm-size PC. PocketVIEW now includes support for color along with all the features of the original version. Those features include Redline tools, a Layer Manager, Pan and Zoom. For AutoCAD users, an ARX application is provided for exporting and importing drawings.
For people who have CAD applications that can create DWG or DXF files, the company also offers PocketDWG, which is capable of handling the conversion between the desktop and PocketVIEW.

Interactive Objects, Inc. has announced that Microsoft has purchased its digital audio player technology and that the company has signed a contract with Microsoft to develop additional streaming technology for the Windows CE operating system. Interactive Objects' technology provides the first digital audio player supporting Microsoft's Windows Media file format for the Windows CE Palm-size PC operating system. With almost twice the compression of MP3 yielding half the file size, Windows Media 4.0 effectively doubles the storage capacity of music files on Windows CE while concurrently increasing the device's multi-tasking abilities.
w-Trade has announced that online brokerages Mydiscountbroker.com, InvestIN.com Securities Corp. and U.S. Discount Brokerage Inc. will begin to offer wireless trading over the Internet to their customers through the w-Trade Wireless Trading System. The w-Trade wireless application platform supports Windows CE Handheld PCs as well as other types of wireless devices, such as cell phones and two-way pagers.
iBiz Technology Corp. has announced the iKey Mite, a 4.5" x 10" mini-keyboard for Windows CE Palm-size PCs and Palm OS devices. Full production of the iKey Mite is anticipated by June 1, 1999, and sample orders are being taken immediately from US distributors.
Proxim, Inc. announced at Comdex/Spring '99 that its RangeLAN2® wireless LAN technology will enable today's mobile work force using Windows CE Handheld PC devices running the new client software to have wireless access to critical corporate data, email, and desktop applications on Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition.

PC Week reports that Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products is developing a basic speech recognition and TTS (text to speech) translation application for Windows CE Handheld and Palm-size PCs. Likely to be called Voice Alert, the application will allow owners of a Windows CE device to use voice commands to launch applications, retrieve contacts and calendar appointments, browse e-mail and then listen to the messages, which are read aloud by the TTS engine and synthesized voice. L&H plans to demonstrate its Windows CE-based technology, on devices using Hitachi SH-3 and MIPS processors, at Demo Mobile 99 next week in San Diego.
Yahoo! and Online Anywhere, a leading provider of Web delivery solutions for information appliances, today announced an agreement that will enable Yahoo! content and services to be optimized and delivered to personal digital assistants (PDAs) and TV-based Internet appliances. Under the agreement, the Author Once, View Anywhere service from Online Anywhere will be employed to format Yahoo!'s personalized Internet services such as email, calendar, stock quotes, maps, sports, weather, yellow pages, people search, ski and snow reports, restaurant guides, and more for display on non-PC devices.
PhatWare has announced a new "single-word translation" utility for Windows CE called "HPC Translate 1.0." Initially English to/from Spanish is supported, but support for Italian, German, and French is expected soon. For a limited time you can purchase a copy online from the PhatWare website for an introductory price of under US$15.
MemoWare and The Lending Library have united their resources to expand their collection of reference, fiction, and literature documents for Windows CE and Palm OS devices. Over 350 documents from The Lending Library have been added to the 1,800+ documents in MemoWare's archives, resulting in a total collection of over 2,200 documents.
HP has announced an upgrade for its HP 620LX and 660LX HPCs. The upgrade includes productivity applications from HP and an upgrade from CE 2.0 to Windows CE Handheld Professional Edition software. The HP productivity applications provide 64K color and MP3 player support, full backup capabilities, an HP viewer for enhanced viewing of PIM information, and HP quick pad. The upgrade will have an estimated price of US$179 and will be available in "early June", according to the company.
