Microsoft has released a Market Bulletin to compare Handsprings new Springboard concept with already existing Window CE devices software capability and compactflash card strategy. Main points being that the expand your devices capability strategy has all along been Microsoft's with their encouragement of 3rd party software development. Also that compactflash card slots are in all PPCs and many HPCs, are smaller, and offer more variety because of the industry support for them as a standardized product with different functions and that they work with other devices as well -ie. notebooks.

Microsoft has started its "Web On the Go" promotion campaign. People who purchase a color Palm-size PC before Jan 1. 2000 will receive for an additional US$49 a special "Web On the Go" kit. The kit includes Xircom's new CompactCard Modem 56 GlobalACCESS, special deals on wireless add-ons and ISP access, and over 10 mobile software applications including Microsoft ActiveSync® 3.0 and the Microsoft Communication Kit which has a dial up Wizard for simplified internet access.
HP has announced their latest Handheld PC the Jornada 690. In color with 32MB of RAM HP appears to be trying to market the product more directly towards vertical solutions playing up the increased RAM as the necessary storage space for healthcare and database specific applications. The 690 comes with a built-in 56Kbps v.90 modem, 8 hrs of battery life and a 133MHz processor. The HP Jornada 690 is expected to be available at the end of November and will retail at approximately US$999.00.
