CNet reports that Compaq is unveiling its new Aero 1530 Palm-size PC on Monday in an attempt to draw business from rival Palm Computing's ultra-sleek Palm V. It is the smallest handheld device running on Windows CE software, the lighter sibling to Microsoft's desktop PC operating systems.

Pocket Quicken for Windows CE was developed in cooperation with Intuit to be used in conjunction with Quicken Deluxe 99 and Quicken Deluxe 2000 to track finances while traveling or away from the PC. Users can now capture checking, credit card and cash transactions while on the go and gain freedom and mobility utilizing Pocket Quicken. HP not to be outdone by the announcements by Handspring and 3Com this week will also be releasing in October their Jornada 430se -a direct challenger to Casio's E-100 palm-size PC. Featuring a color screen, 65,000 colors, 133MHz of processing power, and MP3 digital audio software with a stereo headphone jack, HP plans to get their piece of the pie of an increasingly multi-media appreciative PDA market that Casio has been dominating thus far. HP's Jornada 430se should be coming out priced around US$499.

ART (Advanced Recognition Technologies Inc) has released the newest version of its award-winning handwriting recognition program, ARTrecognition for Windows CE Palm-size PCs. ARTrecognition v.1.5 boasts a more powerful handwriting recognition engine than its predecessor, greatly increasing the handwriting recognition rate of users writing. Initial beta testers have reported results of up to a 30 percent increase in the handwriting recognition rate compared to the previous version.
