Viewing and Showing Video Files Introduction Viewing and showing video files on a color Palm-size PC may sound fanciful, but in fact with Casio's Cassiopeia E-100 it's already possible! And as screens, processor speeds, audio capabilities, and memory capacities improve even further in the future, video will eventually become a standard color Palm-size PC feature. Available Applications The only video software currently available on the market is the Casio Mobile Video Converter and Mobile Video Player. These programs are included on the Cassiopeia E-100 Multimedia Pack CD, which will retail for US$70. Mobile Video Converter is a desktop software application that allows you to convert digital MPEG, QuickTime, and AVI movie files to the Casio Movie File (.cmf) format so that it can be viewed on the Cassiopeia E-100 with the Casio Movie Player application. Since the size of even a two-minute video clip is large (around 6 - 8MB), a CompactFlash memory card will also be needed store the file. These are available from companies such as Pretec and Sandisk. Potential Business Applications At the moment, potential business applications for video on color Palm-size PCs belong more to the future than the present. But it's not hard to imagine the impact that a salesperson could deliver by showing a short video product demo file to a customer -- or the benefits that video could have as a training tool for mobile technicians and sales people.
