Tempat:Bilik mesyuarat Lembaga Pengarah Tingkat 22,Bangunan Promet,KL
Seorang Dato' berusia 72 tahun(Pengurusi syarikat) bersimbang dengan seorang pengarah 'muda' berusia 46 tahun semasa rehat mesyuarat.
Dato':Apa kabar orang muda?Sihat?
OM:OK Tok.Badan sihat,tapi biznes masih belum menentu.
Dato':I always love the local coffee.Emm,it smells good.
OM:Me too.whenever I go to Seremban,I always buy 1 kg.
Dato':When I was a young boy in 1938,it cost only 1 cent for a cup of
coffee and another 1 cent for pisang goreng in Kuala Kangsar.
OM:Wow!That is great.I wish it is still like that to-day.With price
like that,we are all millionaires!
Dato':Well, time changes a lot of things.Just look at me;we are small
because we don't even have enough rice to eat.During the war,we eat
tapioca,you know.
OM:Yes.It also happened during my time.I used to get 20 cents to go
to schoool, but my son needs RM2 to buy the same food I bought 30 years
ago.
Dato':Not only money changes value.People value also changed quite a
lot.Dimasa saya kanak2 dulu,kami tak dibenarkan makan bersama bapak.Budak2
hanya boleh makan selepas bapak sudah makan.Bila bapak makan telur goreng, saya
berdoa agar ada lagi sisa-sisa untuk saya merasanya.Bukan macam sekarang-makanan
berlonggok-longgok.Kadang-kala budak2 yang makan dulu, ajak kita pun tidak!!!
OM:Well Dato'-a lot of things have changed, especially the children
and the young people.Tapi yang sedihnya orang tua ingat mereka ni masih
bodoh. Some old people still behave as if they are living in the late
30's.
Dato':Well, young man-when you reach my age,you feel you are still young and you may have the same attitude like we do.However,I feel it time for us to take the back seats and berjinak dengan masjid. This is your time.We know our future, which is the present. Now,it is your turn, young man.
OM:Thanks for your understanding Dato'.Some more coffee Dato'?I hope this coffee won't change with time....
Dato':By the way, jangan lupa malam esok malam Nishfu Shaaban.
OM:OK Tok,insyaAllah saya kan ke masjid.
