NOW  &  THEN

Two old friends met at the new coffeeshop-San Franscisco Coffee at the corner of Ampang Point around 10pm..........
They are now owners of their own firms.

After ordering two cups of mocha iced coffee,both sat down discussing their good old days when they were at university some 20 years ago....

Engineer:How is your firm doing?I guess you are having a field day sueing people during this recession....

Lawyer:No,no.It is not like that.As lawyers we are only acting on behalf of our clients.Anyway,our business also suffered like others...

Engineer:A high paid mercenaries eh?

Lawyer:Well....people who owed money must pay their debts.Don't you agree?What is this -lawyers bashing? Engineers are also no different from  lawyers...................

Engineer:We are also working for our clients.By the way,do you remember when we were students back then-talking about serving our country,helping our race etc,etc.Now,we are working for rich people to enrich themselves..............so that we also can be rich like them.I just wonder when were the last time we did something for free-helping those in need?

Lawyer:Well,we used to work for the government before we opened our own private practice.I think we have paid our dues.Isn't not enough?

Engineer:May be we ask us ourselves again what is enough?
Some of us may got carried away with the new corporate life that we may have forgotten where we came from and why we are here to-day....

Lawyer:I think you should join politics...

Engineer:It should be you the lawyers and not  the engineers.Anyway,who is willing to be dragged into mud now?I better stick to knitting.

Lawyer:You may be right.We,Malay professionals should re-examine our selves and our roles again in our society,especially in the present context.To most of us,as long as we are ok,why bother to get our hands dirty.If our elders before Merdeka were to think like that,most of us
will remain as fishermen and farmers....like our kampung folks.

Engineer:Btw,my friend a doctor has resigned and joined a private hospital.As a specialist,he was paid about RM 7000 in government.Now,he is getting RM15,000 a month.When he was a student,he vowed to get his medical degree to serve mankind.Now,those cryptic vows have flown out of the windows.He is now serving his shareholders;-

Lawyer:I think we are no better than him.Let's go home-tomorrow I have to meet a client quite early in the morning.Btw,what is your handicap now?We should play golf next week.

Engineer:Mine is still 24-never improve.Good night.
