As it name implies, this show has as a central theme the beauty of the American landscape as viewed by the Art League's hundreds of artist members. The art on display will be about any region and any place - the sea, the mountains, cities, villages, rivers, but all American scenes. It is perhaps the most popular of the Gallery's twelve annual shows.
This year's juror, Eliza Rathbone, Chief Curator of the world famous Phillips Collection will have a tough choice selecting the two hundred or so entries from a pool of nearly one thousand artists. However, judging from past years, the end result will be an eclectic show with something for nearly every taste, ranging and probably including P.J. Anderson's exquisitely crafted etchings, Elaine Hahn's brilliant seashore watercolors, Catriona Fraser's and Danny Conant's ethereal photographs down to Connie Slack's huge ugly paintings.
The show will run from August 9 through September 3, 1995. An opening reception and awards will be held on Sunday, 11 August 2:00 - 4:00 pm.
The Art League Gallery is located on the first floor of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, 105 North Union Street, Old Town Alexandria, Virginia 22314. The gallery can be reached at (703) 683-1780.
