A Tribute to my Daddy
FES Lives On
My father passed away on January 26th, 1999,
the day after he proudly walked me down the aisle.
Here's a little bit about FES.
Born in England, in the year 1929, the first son to the family of five.
The children were Vera, Francis, Bernard(killed as a child), Jean and Raymond.
My grandfather, Walter, was killed during the war when FES
was a young boy, which made him the MAN of the house. My grandmother, Ellen, remarried many years later to a man named William.
My dad joined the RAF when he was 18 years old and
worked in the kitchen.
This is where he learned how to cook great meals....when he had to...*S*
Came to Canada in 1950 with $10.00 in his wallet
and strangely enough, that is all he had in his wallet when he left us.
Met my mother, Ila, in 1953 and they were married 6 months later. In 1954, when I was 6 weeks old, my father was working in a Woolen Mill and hurt his back. Layed up in the hospital for a year in a body cast, my mom did what she had to do. Don't know how she managed but she did. Dad came home, put himself through home schooling and got a job with the Government as a Clerk. Lowest on the totem pole and worked hard for 35 years and worked his way to the top. Retired when he was 55 years old and enjoyed it! They did some travelling but not alot because of his back and had suffered 3 heart attacks. Dad had many operations on his back with hopes of being out of pain, but never happened.
I remember the day I told him I was pregnant.
Wow, I thought I was going to be disowned!! I was unmarried and had only been dating my son's father for a few months, well, Dad was proud as a peacock. The day Derek was born, Dad had taken a picture of him and insisted on holding him when the nurse brought Derek into my room. I hadn't even really held him yet. *L* But that was a proud day for all of us.
FES loved his grandson so much that you could see
the love just beaming from him when they were together. Never saw my Dad so happy!!
Dad was an avid reader.
He could have opened his own library if he ever wanted to. He read books about everything. Always wanting to absorb knowledge. I guess he was the smart one in the family.
