The pictures found on these pages are of my family. I know to many of you they will not be of interest, but you see, some of them are set on tintype and glued down on a wooden backed frame. It was a big challange to scan them and not crack or crumple some of the fragile edges. Some even had to be scanned in the frames. This is just a tribute to my family, beginning eight generations ago.
Great-great-great grandfather Kimes Wilson, who passed on in 1875 at the approx. age of 48, according to my great-grandmother, who you will see further on down on this page.
Great-great-great grandmother Mary Jane Wilson, who I believe to have about the same stats as grandad Wilson. (stern lookin old woman, aint she?)...lol
Great-great grandmother Emma Norton, daughter of Kimes and MaryJane Wilson. I remember knowing her pretty well. She lived to be 99 years old and was with us until I was about 10, I think. The little house they lived in still stands in Ottawa Kansas.
Great-great Grandad Ponti Norton. I dont remember very much about him at all. He passed several years before Grandma. I remember him as a quiet man though. (probably afraid of Grandma, would be my guess)...lol
Nothing to do with family, (I hope!) but just something cute my sister brought me.
Edna Norton Conner Shaffer, my wonderful great-grandmother. I was fortunate enough to have her until she had to leave me about 10 years ago. I miss her so much and her will and outlook was unbelievable! She left me at the age of 103. She was still very alert in every sense but lost a bout with phneumonia.
Great grandad Conner, I dont remember an awful lot about him but I know he was a kind and very loving man. I remember when I was in lower grade school, and got to stay at their house, everynight before winding up his clock and blowing out the lamp, he always fixed his collie, a slice of bread and butter with sugar on it.
(
the frame on this was too fragile to take apart so I had to scan frame and all, then resample, sorry about the quality)
Another picture of my beautiful great grandmother Edna, taken at the age of 16. Can you tell she was my favorite, my strength, and my best friend?
One of the very few pictures ever taken of my mother's mother, Eletha May Conner Shelley. She always seemed to hate cameras with a passion. Probably had no choice at this age though...lol
My Mom's Daddy, James Richard Shelley, spent most of his adult life in an iron foundary. Seen here pouring hot iron into a mold. He was terrified of almost all animals but feared no walkin man. He would crawl into the boxing ring with anyone no matter what their size or shape!
Grandad left me in July of 1962.
Ha-ha...My Mama, wasnt she a cute little thing? Mama will be 78 in July and still goes to work everyday, except for Wednesdays, thats her shoppin day!...lol
OHHHHHH, dont ya know I'm dead meat if my Daddy, Bill ever sees this? It was taken at the county fair when he was 17...lol This was taken in 1939!
Hahahah Mama, Jeanne, again, I love these pictures..Hope ya dont mind...lol
I know many of you have seen this picture, But Its still my favorite one of My Daddy Bill.
Just a tattered old newspaper clipping, but one I am very proud of just the same!
Mom and Dad's wedding picture, March 22, 1942
Ha-Ha, Then came little ol me! Poor Mom and Dad!...lol
Spirit at 5
Age 16
These old photographs, together with my children and their children add up to a total of eight generations. I am sorry the scan quality of some were not as good as they should have been but many were wrinkled, tattered, and very yellowed with age. Also, I apologise for the download time, but I did not have the heart to seperate the pages. I thank you for taking a stroll through the history of Spirit!
