Downloading Files What does "downloading" mean? How do I copy the images and sounds I encounter in web pages to my hard disk? This and similar questions will be discussed in this tutorial. DEFINITION Downloading is the act of copying web-based files to your hard disk. These files range from simple graphics to complex executable programs. PROCEDURES 1. Here are some of the scenarios you might encounter when wanting to download different types of files from web pages. If you encounter an image that you would like to download, position your mouse pointer on top of it and press the right mouse button. A pop-up menu then appears. Click on the "Save Picture As..." or "Save Image As..." option of the menu. In the screen shot above, a picture of the sun is being downloaded from the SouthBeach Logos site. NOTE This method is also applicable if you want to download animations, movies and videos from web pages. OR If you want to save the contents a link is referring to, position your mouse on top of it and press the right mouse button. A pop-up menu then appears. Click on the "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As..." option. In the screen shot above, the page referred to by the "Campus Life" link is being downloaded from the GeoCities main page. 2. A window like the one shown below appears. There type the name you would like to give to the file you want downloaded. 3.
