Stephen Interview
What's your earliest Boyzone tour memory?
Being in the back end of nowhere in Ireland. Performing on tiny stages.
Driving around in our old van to every gig!!
Which is your most favourite track to perform "live"?
"Different Beat".
Which has been the most memorable venue you've played so far?
The Point Depot in Dublin. I used to live around the corner from there and
me and my mates used to sneak in sometimes to see some of the shows so when I
perform there with Boyzone, it's still a great rush for me.
What are your five most essential items of tour luggage?
My phone. Comfy clothes. Toiletries. Books. Something to listen to
music on!!
If you could choose anywhere, at which venue would you most like to
perform a Boyzone show?
There was a beautiful coliseum we performed at recently in Verona in
Italy. It was absolutely beautiful, it had so much history. I'd love to
perform there again.
What are you most looking forward to about the "Where We Belong"
Tour?
Doing the new songs..."Must Have Been High", "Where Did You
Go"...it's always great performing our songs "live" for the first
time.
What is the last thing you do before you go on-stage?
We give each other a hug, say "good luck", "have a good one"...and
I warm up my voice.
What was the first "live" concert you ever attended?
MC Hammer (80's rap artist) at the Point Depot.
What is the best thing about touring?
Performing to our fans, the atmosphere's always great. There's always a
great energy on stage and I just love it. It's one of the best things we have
to do as Boyzone!!
What is the worst thing about touring?
When we have a lot of other work to do during the day before a show
especially when we are really tired.
Tell us a comedy tour story...
It was during one of our first tours at the Point. My trousers burst and
I had white underwear on. Everybody could see and I was trying to dance and
hide the split at the same time. In the end we had to glue them together. We
tried stapling them. We tried insulating tape. But nothing worked.
Do you still get nervous?
Yes I do, at the start. But it gets better as the tour goes on.
Have you ever spotted anything or anyone in the audience that has
made you stop singing?
No. I've never stopped singing. But you do notice things in the
audience. People pulling face for a laugh, stuff like that. You end up
giggling at some of the banners too but it's never made me stop singing.
How do you feel when a tour is over?
I feel good actually. I always lose a bit of weight on tour, and that's
good!
