Boyzone: A pressing matter!

If there's one thing guaranteed to nark a pop star, it's having the press nose about in their love life! As the fourth 'Zone wedding looms, Mikey Boyzone lets off steam...

Why is privacy so important to you?

I can't tell you - it's private, hahaha! Privacy is important to protect your own sanity. It doesn't necessarily mean that you're hiding anything from the public. I mean, the public only get so much of you, they don't get everything. You don't want to give everything of yourself away.

Don't Boyzone fans deserve to know everything?

I think that just because a person lives in the public eye, it doesn't mean they belong to the public. What they do in their work life is one thing, but they're human and they need a private life as much as anybody. Some people say, "Well, you choose to go into this, so it's all fair game," but I don't go in for that at all - that's rubbish.

Have you got anything to hide?

No. Hahaha! I just try to keep my private life private. Protect my child and my girlfriend. I like my quiet.

Do you find it easy to get peace and quiet?

It's a struggle when you're at home. You want to do simple things, y'know, like go for a walk down the street, but you can't do it privately because everybody's watching. I'd like to go unrecognised.

What's it like when tabloid newspapers pry into your private life?

I'm very against tabloid intrusion, where journalists and photographers delve into people's private lives, hoping to expose them just to make money. Just to make big bucks out of a photograph...they set themselves up to torture a person. It's unbelieveable.

Have you experienced it first-hand, then?

Yeah. There was this one guy one time who went onto my property. I wasn't there at the time. He went round the back of my house and put a ladder up to one of the windows, then he climbed up and had a look in. I don't know if he took photographs - they were never revealed. If they had been, I would have prosecuted because I would have had proof that he was trespassing. But he did describe my kitchen, how it was laid out and that.

What would you have done if you'd been there?

If I'd have been there, that man would not have walked away...

Yikes, you've been warned, press peeps!
