THE cbap STORY... by Karen
Hi! That's me in the middle, Amy's on the right,
Warren's on the left. When Amy and I started the band in 1991, we
had our older sister on drums and our brother in charge of sound/recording.
Sound/recording involved a 4-channel mixer and a tape deck, so all the
recordings were live performances, with no overdubs. It was one of
those deals of "keep recording the same song over and over til we get a
take that has the fewest errors". So we fooled around and learned
to play our instruments with songs like:
-
"Here's Where The Story Ends" - The
Sundays
-
"Under The Milky Way" - The Church
-
"In Between Days" - The Cure
-
"Come Back Down" - Toad The Wet Sprocket
-
"Trouble Me"*

Also around this time, we were writing
our first originals. Here's a sample of one:

From 1991 - 1995, there were lots
of changes in the band. We had another guitarist for awhile and various
drummers throughout this period. We even changed the band name and
recorded a demo as Trap Door Truth before
switching back to could've been a poet
-- which, I'm sure some of you realize, was
taken from the Smiths
song, "This Night Has Opened My Eyes".
Also during this time, Amy switched from electric to 12-string acoustic
guitar.
In late 1995, Amy, Warren and I
began recording our
first potato which was released
in September 1996.
