DAMIEN's THOUGHTS :
I'll tell you, I'm just blown away by your thoughts!
At any rate, I think that anybody who bad mouths The King after being helped out should shut the fuck up....
I have enjoyed King's music since I was 16 years old. (I'm 30 now) I wish that I could impress the influence that his music has had on my life, since I am now attempting to create my own CD with my own original music...of course, my music has been influenced by several major influences of my life. Alice Cooper ( who I was raised on), as well as Frank Zappa, Deep Purple, Iron Butterfly, Pink Floyd., etc. My more modern influences are Iron Maiden, (My first musical love) Queensryche, OF COURSE, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Death, Obituary...etc...
I have been lucky enough to meet The King, and from that experience, it is nice to note that he has not been enamored by his fame. He hasn't shunned his fans in favor of the great god MTV. He is just like one of us...just a guy turning out awesome music, influencing us to greatness. I can only hope that I can be as unenamored by the fame that turns such great artists to shit like Metallica, Megadeth, etc...
LONG LIVE THE KING!
LONG LIVE THE REAL MUSICIANS!

WEBMASTER's THOUGHTS :
It is undeniable that the art in
general and maybe more especially for the music are spheres in which humans
have found a preference way for the expression or the "purging" (see the
Poetics
by Aristote: catharsis) of the passions. A division, and even a
dichotomy, has therefore rapidly emerged, differentiating the artistic
fields of the others, intellectual. One can easily agree with the artist
a certain form of creative genius, when one didn't simply give to the artist
a social function due to certain identifications of the art to the mimesis
(of the nature or of the human being). But the intellectuals who dared
to give their attention to the works of art in their whole plenitude and
power been rare and we can't reduce it to an affective aspect. Everybody
knows the mathematic complexity of Die Kunst der Fuge by J.-B. Bach;
or the rich symbolic of Magic Flute by Mozart, the strict reflection
of The Rite of Spring (no need to talk about Wagner's paganism
or Christian mystic, or Gregorian chants,...). We must add finally that
the form of the classical music nowadays is only an element more that permits
to discover in the heart of this one an endless source of reflection and
meditation: the abstraction and the different technical creations of Pierre
Boulez or in another level, Mauricio Kagel.
We must admit that in the XXth
century an important number of artists have known how to bring a great
value to the intellectual world the worth profundly reflexive even cognitive
of their works (speaking of painting, for example: Surrealism, Dadaism,
Abstract Art,... Breton, Duchamps, Magritte (read Ceci n'est pas une
pipe by Michel Foucault to understand the philosophical impact of some
painters)). In spite of this intellectual recognition for the Art, there
is still a partitioning, a block concerning the categorization of the different
"movements" that go through it (we only speak about music here) and the
organization that proceeds from it. I won't go into the details of my own
interpretation (YOU will have to express yourself!) of this problem but
I would like however say that it is surprising and then it is significant,
that musical styles called modern (rock, hard rock, techno,...) be systematically
devalued, ignored in their specificity and their worth intrisic. It is
true, once more (cf. above), if some sociologists or journalists are interested
in only for their social sense. " The infatuation of youth for these
kinds of musics (noises?) can't mean an authentically musical interest
or intellectual because of the total vacuity of the texts of those songs
and of the technical incompetence of their composings. You simply have
to understand it in relation to the sociocultural category or to the psychological
profile of their listeners (rap=suburbs, hard rock=frustration, ...)."In
front of this paradigm of the intellectual contemporary world, I really
wish that YOU, KING DIAMOND & MERCYFUL FATE fans, could express yourself
on the richness that represents these bands. Feel free to write what you
want to express. All will be published. No censorship will be accepted.
