ABBA's Success

In 1972 ABBA was nominated to represent Sweden in the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest. They came third in Sweden with "Ring Ring" and so were unable to represent Sweden in that year's competition. When "Ring Ring" was released it reached the top 5 in The Netherlands and the top 3 in Australia.

In 1974 ABBA represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest with "Waterloo" with which they won. "Waterloo" topped the charts around the world and made the top 10 in the USA.

Over that year "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do" reached the top 20 in the USA, top 6 in New Zealand, and top 3 in Australia' "Honey Honey" reached the top 30 in the USA, top 20 in the Netherlands, and top 3 in Germany.

In 1975 "S.O.S." hit the top 20 in the USA, top 10 in the UK, and top 3 in both Australia and Germany.

In 1976 "Dancing Queen" was preformed at the reception celebrating the marriage of the King of Sweden to Silvia Sommerlath. the single topped the charts for 6 weeks in the UK, Australia, Germany, Norway, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, New Zealand, and the USA.

Also that year "Mamma Mia" was released reaching number 3 in both Australia and Germany. "Fernando" reached the top 20 in the USA and topped the charts in The Netherlands, Australia, and New Zealand. "Rock Me" and "Money, Money, Money" both hit the top 3 in both Australia and New Zealand.

In 1977 "Knowing Me, Knowing You" topped the German charts and reached number 5 in Australia. "The Name of the Game" and "Take a Chance on Me" reached number 5 in Australia and New Zealand.

In 1979 "Chiquitita" reached number 5 in the UK, top 3 in the USA, and topped the charts in many other countries. "Does Your Mother Know" and "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" hit the top ten in both the UK and the USA. "Voulez-Vous" hit the top of the charts in nearly every country.

In 1980 "The Winner Takes it All" topped the charts in nearly every country except the UK and the USA where it only made the top 20.

In 1981 "Lay all Your Love on Me" made the top 10 in the UK and the USA. "One of Us" topped the charts in many countries including Australia.

These are only some on ABBA's successful songs; no woder they were so populay - and still are.
