Melissa Etheridge: Rocker, Mother, Activist

by kelli kay

melissa etheridge

born may 29,1961 in leavenworth, ks, melissa etheridge has been Rockin' the World from the start. she got her first guitar at age 8 & was writing songs by age 10. luckily for us, she is still going strong with oh,so many more songs that she has yet to write & share with the world. melissa etheridge is a Spirited, Truthful, Talented Rocker & a loving Mother of 2 children, & she is also a Sincere activist. she is out there helping many people & causes by simply teaching people to love instead of hate, which is truly beautiful. she supports many issues facing the world. she is passionate & powerful, her music touches your soul & makes you a more enriched individual.

i am very pleased to be writing an article about melissa, for she is so inspiring & encouraging to me...she follows her heart, & you can't go wrong by that! etheridge can Rock really Hard, but she also can be Vulnerable, too. she has quite a dynamic range, & the intensity of her songs, her words, & music are so very moving.

melissa is working on her autobiography with laura morton titled the truth is, & it's scheduled for a summer 2001 release date. the book is bound to be an insightful & heartfelt look into one very strong & delightful woman. i am looking forward to reading this book, for melissa always gives her heart & soul...that's what makes her such a wonderful musician.

follow your heart...

when she sings & plays for people, she'll look out into an audience filled with gay and straight, young & old, & she'll think, "when someone in the audience feels the same way as i do, then maybe they'll think, 'well, she's gay...maybe those gays are alright!" simply put, it's like she says in her song: "but i have come this far with a truth of the heart...deep down inside, i think we're all the same" ain't that the truth!

she has performed for a crowd of 45,000 at rfk stadium in washington, dc, at the equality rocks celebration of equality & diversity, in support of Human Rights. she was also named an honorary co-chair of the NO On Knights Campaign, fighting to reverse the anti-gay marriage knights initiative (proposition 22) in california.

Melissa has sold more than 25 million records worldwide & has such a devoted & precious following. her fans are the ones who really get everything she is singing about & can understand it. every song she sings has its own special meaning to the fans, & melissa knows how special her songs & truthfulness is to herself, as well as the fans. she just keeps challenging herself & coming up with more & more original, self-expressive, insightful songs.

even though i haven't been lucky enough to get to see melissa in concert yet, i will do everything in my power to get to because i feel she is one extremely gifted individual, whom i admire...with songs like "angels would fall", "enough of me", & "scarecrow" (from her newest cd breakdown), melissa will keep on shining & inspiring.

Peace, Love, & Life to you & your family & friends forever, melissa. "the truth is"...that the world is a better place with individuals like melissa in it!

equality rocks!
