A German international forward of
immense ability, particularly in the air, Karl-Heinz scored two of the
goals for Borussia Dortmund that helped defeat Juventus 3-1 in the 1997
European Cup final, before signing for Liverpool immediately prior to the
start of 1997-98.
Certainly, on paper it appeared to be a brilliant transfer coup,
but, in reality, although he was strong going forward, at 32 years of age
the German will have great difficulty holding up the progress of Michael
Owen and Robbie Fowler, even in the short term. However, with Fowler probably
out until this coming December, he can still do a good job for Liverpool,
although the club would undoubtedly like more goals from him this coming
term.
