In signing for Liverpool Heggem turned
his back on a possible fourth successive season in the Champions' League,
saying: ''It was not that tough a decision to make.'' !
Heggem joined the Liverpool-Norwegian contingent of Bjornebye, Kvarme and
Leonhardsen, though unusually admitted to not having following English
football as a child.
He does have international experience beyond the European club competitions,
having played for the Norwegian U-21 side, prior to the full national team.
He made his international debut against France and capped a fine performance
by scoring. Only a groin injury prevented him from playing in the 1998
World Cup.
Heggem said: ''It was very unlucky. I was hoping to play in the
game against Scotland. But the fact I've now come to Liverpool has helped
with the disappointment of it. I'm very proud to be here, because it's
one of the most famous clubs in the world.'' |
