Having
made his first team start in Liverpool's midfield in 1996-97, and looking
promising, Jamie began to prove himself a more than useful central defender
in 1997-98, especially as the season progressed.
Many at Anfield feel that
he could become a top-quality centre back in a flat back four, and the
former Liverpool and England defensive legend, Phil Thompson, has stated
that he thinks the club has unearthed a real gem in this youngster. Strong
and powerful, and a good passer of the ball, those are the qualities needed
to succeed as a defender at Anfield and Jamie fits the bill.

the England "B" matches, against Chile and Russia, during the campaign,
as well as playing in seven of the eight available U21 fixtures. |
