It took some time for the Liverpool
ex-manager, Roy Evans, to pick this bargain up from Crewe, but, after signing
him in the 1997 close season, the lad eventually gained a reasonably regular
place in 1997-98, and his worth to the team proved to be immense, despite
his lack of goals.
Fast, fierce, and highly competitive for a small player, Danny's greatest
asset, apart from his large heart, is creativity, something that had been
missing from the side during the absence of Jamie Redknapp. Looked confident
and sharp when in the team and Jan Molby described him as the club's best
passer of the ball over 15 or 20 yards. His ideal position at present is
in central midfield, but do not be surprised if he moves on to an attacking
partnership alongside Michael Owen in the future. Added to his international
honours when capped twice by England at U21 levellast season, against Moldova
and Greece.
