Persuasion Review

This album was due for release is 1992, but due to various factors beyond Adam's control, this album never came out. The latest news on this is that Sony now have the rights to the recordings, although nothing has been said yet with regards to releasing it.

I have listed the tracks in the order they appear on the bootleg, but, as Marco said in the Slapdash Eden fanzine, this was not the final order. I have also included a line from the choruses. Also, I've included a crappy points system - this is by no means a fair way of doing things, because these are only my opinions, but it should give you a rough guide!

Headgear This is a brilliant track, and should definately have been released as a single. It is very dancey and has a really catchey bridge after the second chorus. This is one of the tracks which Adam performed on the Persuasion tour in the US. (10/10)

"Soul pirates, drifting in a sea of bliss. Soul pirates, get your headgear around this"

Persuasion This was due to be the first single from the album. Like Headgear, it is very catchey and would sound great played in a club. (9/10)

"Woh Woh Woh Oh Oh, Persuasion, you know what I mean now"

Brain Candy This is slower than the previous two tracks. It it Ok, but I'll be honest and say that this is my least favourite track. The guitar sound is very much like Cameo, whose lead singer actually worked on the album. (7/10)

"Brain candy, melts in your mouth, not your hand"

Don't Knock It This track is pretty average too, a bit more up-tempo than Brain Candy, but not quite as catchey as the first two tracks. (8/10)

"You don't know when to stop, just like a bull in a china shop. Oh don't knock it til you got it"

All Girl Action This is a great song! The bass guitar on this is especially good, and Adam's vocals sound great! The only disappointing thing is the chorus which just repeats the same line over and over again. (9/10)

"All girl, all girl, action.

Obsession I wasn't keen on this at first, but it's a real grower! This mid-tempo, and the female backing vocals feature heavily on this. It reminds me slightly of Prince's 1999. (8/10)

"Obsession with your body, obsession. Obsession with your brain, obsession. You want the world and you want it now, my oh my."

Seems to Me An absolute classic, and it's my favourite track!! I love everything about this song! However, this is the track that was never even intended to be on the album. Adam's vocals are great, it's a really 'shouty' song - the kind you want to sing along to. (10/10)

"And it seems to me, we've got a new aristocracy"

Little Devil This is a great song. It only lasts two minutes, but a longer version was recorded. Larry Blackman from Cameo played on this. The lyrics are fantastic - very witty! (8/10)

"Time, all really need is time, let's get together and fry, you little devil"

Sexatise You Yet another classic! Something about this reminded me of Robert Palmer's 'Addicted to Love', but it doesn't really sound that much like it. Very very catchey, and would have done well in the charts with the right promotion. (10/10)

"Don't ever let your private life, get in the way of your sex life"

Survival of the Fetish This song is pretty good. Er, I don't really know what else to say about it, except it's kind of mid-tempo and certainly worthey of it's place on this album! (8/10)

"Survival of the fetish" (that's all in the chorus!)

Overall This is a fantastic album. It is better than Manners and Physique, and has loads of songs which could have been released as singles. The guitar sound is great, a lot more evident than on Manners. This was probably written with the American audience in mind, but that is not to say that the European fans wouldn't like this. This simply has to be released at some point! Overall - 87%
