Review written by James
Moulton, who e-mailed me his
review. Thanks James!
It was a hot, muggy night along the
waterfront at the E-Center. The atmosphere was amazingly relaxed and
mellow when I got there. The stages were placed very unstrategatly
for crowd access. I had never heard of the first seven acts. Me'shell
Ndegeocello played a mellow eclectic set with Sarah McLachlan singing
a song with her. She was surprisingly good, but unhappy with the
crowd response. Next, came the Medieval Baebes playing a half hour of
new age chant music on the second stage which was barely visible to
people with really good seats. The Dixie Chicks were great, pouring
all they had into their 45 minute set.Natalie Maines was all over the
place, belting her songs out with her compadres, Emily and Martie
harmonizing with her and doing some excellent banjo, dobro, guitar
and fiddle work. The crowd was polite to them, but why they were
there seems mysterious, they really seemed out of place to this
crowd. They had to leave out one of their standard cover songs"Love
me like a man" for obvious reasons. The Pretenders were next and did
a good job on their hard rock set, each act by the way becoming
increasingly louder, I was surprised at the massive sound system at
the venue which I had visited many times before. When Sheryl Crow
came on the place went nuts. Beer and hard liquor had been flowing
freely all night, and it's effects were starting to be noticeable.
She put on a good show, but not what I expected, her band played
almost with a heavy metal intensity. I had to leave after her set
because of the oppressive heat and wild crowd which was 80% female.
Trivia, Lilith definition from Webster's dictionary: -in the
demonology of the Middle ages, she was a famous witch.
