...The Mark of Cain's last show 'til August was
started by Kranktus.
They've got this wicked and magical sense of humor that starts with Garrie
Blay's (guitar man) abstract JBL amp-sculpture to Taras Ochoto's (bass/vocals)
singing like an impression of a panicked goose shouting "fire in the hole!"
They were chunky, violent, innovative, with their own version of time....

...On first were the irrepressible Kranktus,
sounding even better than they did the night before. Those giant
thwacking rhythms, huge guitars - they were garage-a-sauras alright.
Messy, untidy and all over the place.
They could very well be perfect... |

...Kranktus
and their shambling Punk-Core madness: First night I saw them (with the
infamous Dave Z.), I thought "Fuck me! This band is perfect!" Of
course, I was wanging off my bean, was tanked and had both eyes full of
beer (courtesy of Pete the Stud's mouth) and though I have come down a
little, I still stand by my claim...

...My day actually started with Kranktus
(after buying the obligatory Big Day Out sunglasses. Hey! it's a
ritual) 'cause I couldnt get it together enough to get there any earlier
(Elastica: the night before).
They were going for it big time and I have to take my hat off to them for making their stuff sound so good on a big stage. Taras (vox/bass)proved himself to be a born frontman and seemed completely unfazed by the size of the event. Their 'grind-punk' kicked arse and the new song Big Night Out had people in stitches, espicially after Taras announced it was about "raiding your parents' medicine cabinet then hitting the town"... |

...As do those crazy guys from our very own Kranktus. With the bass player from hell (hanging shit on the bands guitarist thus: "Jeez, your guitar has got only 6 strings to tune, how hard is that?") sweeping everything that had gone before into oblivion! Kranktus pumped out fine splashes of metal interspersed with mountainous grooves; of particular note is the off the wall spontaneous ramble of Joe, which this day concerned the many perils of discourteous driving!... |
