Danu was now a young gargoyle with taupe skin, smoky blue eyes, and four spiralling horns that curved around her auburn hair. She was highly intelligent and adventurous. She was also half-fey by her mother, one of the many local sidhe(gaelic word for fairy) that the clan knew. Because of this fey blood, the clan decided to give her the "dark stone", an ancient amulet which gave the bearer the ability to stay flesh by day and night. So Danu became the clan's protector. But something happened, and in a tale not meant to be told now, Danu was tricked away from her clan, and all its members were slaughtered. Her mother had taken pity on her, and so gave her the gift of immortality and prophecy; to keep her alive and well until she came upon another clan that would accept her.
Beaten and disheartened, she made for the mystical land that the Viking legends had spoken of, someplace called Canada . . .
