"It's just like I'd never been away," says Lucille Ball. Returning to a TV series for the first time since 1957, she is reunited on The Lucy Show (CBS, Monday) with Vivian Vance, her comedy cahoot for six seasons on the old I Love Lucy program. This time, the two are husbandless. "We have to be," Miss Ball explains, "with so many of our old shows around. Otherwise, we'd look like bigamists!"

Lucy is now Lucy Carmichael, a widow with two children, and Viv is Vivian Bagley, a divorcee with one son. They share a house not far from New York City and, according to Miss Ball, are "exploring the fun and mishaps of suburban living, battling the elements, making a living and digging for dates."

In the five years since the I Love Lucy series ended, Viv has married literary agent John Dodds, and Lucy has divorced her former costar Desi Arnaz and wedded comedian Gary Morton. Arnaz is still on the scene, however--as executive producer of Lucy's new show.
