Prologue

Before I begin I wish to credit Dave Deitrich for the ideas and concepts behind the Strike Veritech program and Base Siberia. For this adventure I have used his stats for the Strike Valkyrie, with some slight modifications. Be sure to visit his webpage for stats and info used in this mission.

This adventure will begin at an RDF base of your choice (probably Monument City or even the factory satellite) All military characters will be told to report to room A-2, which the characters will immediately recognize as a special ops briefing room. Any non-military characters will be worked in a little later.

Once in the room, the characters will see none other than Major General Rick Hunter, Captain Max Sterling, and on a large vid screen to the right of the room, Commander Breetai. Obviously something BIG is up. A large machine resembling an overhead projector sits on a table between Rick and Max, as well as several folders filled with papers. The room is fairly good sized, with about 50 or so RDF officers of various ranks and occupations. In the back stand 4 heavily armed guards with body armor, wearing tinted RDF helmets. Once the characters are seated, MG Hunter will begin the briefing. It should read as follows:

"Ladies and Gentlemen, everything I'm about to tell you is highly classified and absolutely cannot leave the confines of this room. Before I begin I will say that you have been hand picked for a special operation that has the potential to be extremely dangerous; therefore anyone who feels they cannot perform in this op may leave now without repercussion or ridicule. You will not be held accountable in any way." No one leaves. After a short pause, Rick continues. "All right then. A situation has developed which puts the safety of the RDF and the future of this planet at an extreme risk. Five days ago a high ranking RDF officer stole a specially modified Veritech fighter. This Veritech is capable of carrying enough firepower to seriously damage or destroy the Factory Satellite, or inflict serious damage on any of our bases of operation. It is believed that this individual is attempting to join up with an anti-government group or rogue Zentradi soldiers. Fortunately, our intelligence indicates that, as of now, this individual is not in possession of the firepower in question. However, intelligence suggests that he will attempt to capture these weapon systems in the next two to three days. I now turn this briefing over to Commander Breetai."

As Breetai speaks, his voice booms and echoes with controlled anger. "Thank you General. This individual in question is a micronized Zentradi named Trodell. Trodell was a Colonel in the RDF working in weapons development and testing, a position in which I, regretfully, recommended him for. Trodell had served under me as an excellent officer, and fought bravely for our combined forces during Dolza's attack. As such, Trodell became a valued member of the RDF command. His military tactics are exceptional; his courage extreme, and his cunning is near legendary. He has been trained in several styles of hand to hand combat, as well as destroid and Veritech operation. Before his defection, Trodell was working as an advanced test pilot of new and more powerful weapon systems for the Veritech fighter Versatile Weapon Configuration system. He was always a strong soldier; focused on duty and glory for the RDF. I still find it hard to believe that he turned against all his fellow soldiers and friends. Trodell is very dangerous both in and out of mecha, and should be approached with extreme caution. And now, Captain Sterling will brief you on Trodell's specially modified Veritech Fighter"

As the characters focus on Max, a vid screen appears from behind the front wall. Max steps to the side of the screen, just as a picture begins to form. "Shortly after the SDF-1 was banished from Earth, production began on an upgrade to the Veritech called the "Super" Veritech, as I'm sure you all are familiar with. At the same time, secret production began on a similar type of upgrade program, called the Strike Veritech. The Strike VT is almost identical to the Super VT; the only difference being the replacement of the right missile launcher with a powerful twin cannon." As Max speaks, an image of the Strike Veritech comes up on the screen. (GM note: Be sure to have a picture of the Strike Veritech to show the characters). "This cannon has enough power to seriously cripple a standard VT with just one blast. Due to the circumstances of the time, production centered more on the super VT's. As such, only 20 Strike VT's were ever produced. Following Dolza's attack, only 11 remained. These 11 were eventually sent to a secret facility in the wastelands of Siberia to be used in special weapon testing. Among the weapons tested were the Versatile Weapon Configuration (see Robotech book Eight: Strike Force for details on VWC). The dangerous part of the VWC is a recently developed missile; the RMS-1 long range nuclear missile." As before, the image of the Strike VT fades to an image of the RMS-1. (pics and stats for the missile are found with the strike valkyrie stats from above). "The VT stolen by Trodell as the potential to carry six of these lethal missals. That would give him enough firepower to render the factory satellite useless; if not destroy it outright. Therefore, it is imperative to stop Trodell as soon as possible." After a pause, Max turns towards Rick, who now carries a worried look upon his face. "Now General Hunter will brief you on Trodell's destination."

As the focus falls back on Rick, the image on the screen fades from the RMS-1 to the cross section of an underground complex. Rick clears his throat and begins. "This is the cross section for RDF Base Siberia; a classified weapons research complex located in the wastelands of Siberia. Seven days ago this base fell victim to a massive radiation leak of unknown origin. All personnel managed to escape, and most of the weapon systems were retrieved. However, several of the VWC pods and VWC weapon systems are unaccounted for. We believe that these systems were left behind in the complex. At the time, the radiation leak was thought of to be an accident, however given the events of the past week concerning Trodell, we are almost certain that the incidents are connected. Our very latest intelligence reports indicate that Trodell as not yet made it to the complex, so we must mobilize and move quickly to prevent a catastrophe. In 5 hours you will all depart for the complex via VC-33. Destroids are already being positioned at the complex under careful scrutiny, and Veritechs will be transported via VC-27. This is all being done in a very subtle manner; hence you won't have a large veritech escort. We don't want to attract a lot of attention to this base, in the hopes of surprising Trodell and capturing him with little or no incident. Once you arrive at the complex, you mission will be to repair and reactivate only the essential systems, locate and secure as many weapon systems as you can find, focusing on the VWC pods and the RMS-1 missals, and establish a defensive perimeter both inside and outside the complex. Now, by activating essential systems, I mean real basic stuff...elevators, necessary lights and doors and that's IT. Our best way to snare Trodell is to lure him into the complex where he can be surrounded and subdued, and if the place is jumping with activity he not likely to show up. Now there will be plenty of provisions on board the VC-33 to sustain all of you for a week, and each person will have a map of the complex. Now, the radiation will make things a bit harder, as you will all need to remain in EV suits. We also have some new types of body armor that are completely self-contained which will be issued to the proper personnel once you arrive at the complex. Now it's pretty beat up in there...there was a mad rush during the evacuation so it may be pretty rough to get around. But it's important to search every nook and cranny of the complex...there's no telling what might be where. Now, as I said, there will be a defensive perimeter both inside and outside the base. The outside perimeter is NOT meant to blow Trodell to bits...just the opposite in fact. Those of you on patrol will be looking for everything but Trodell. Bandits, rogue Zentradi, maybe even E.B.S.I.S...It's your job to eliminate any possible threat to this mission. Once Trodell shows up, keep an eye on him, but stay out of his sight...and let him in. And once he's in, make sure he doesn't get out. The inside perimeter will be the containing force. If Trodell stays in his VT, he'll be limited as to where he can go. Use that to your advantage. If he gets out of the VT, don't just focus on recapturing it...We must contain BOTH Trodell and the VT. Keep him in sight, 'cause he's crafty. Just because he's out of his VT doesn't mean he's defenseless. NO ONE IS TO GO AFTER TRODELL ALONE. Your not there to blow him to bits. Remember people, we want Trodell and this Strike VT back in one peace; as UNDAMAGED as possible. If there is no other way, then go ahead and destroy them. But only as a LAST RESORT. Now, it won't be a piece of cake, but if everything goes according to plan, we should have no problem capturing Trodell and securing the Strike VT. For this mission, all of you will have access to special weapons and armor currently under classification. These new systems will give you an edge over Trodell and anything else you encounter, but you must stay sharp. Trodell is a Zentradi, and will fight without mercy. The RDF and the entire world are counting on you fine men and women. Report to the main hangar bay in 5 hours for immediate departure. Good luck!"

Only questions pertaining to the mission itself will be answered, and those will be answered hastily. Anyone questioning in-depth on topics like experimental weapon systems will be ordered to leave immediately and watched under careful scrutiny for the duration of the mission. Any further attempts to find out about weapon systems may result in dismissal from the mission and/or imprisonment. Questions concerning E.B.S.I.S involvement will be answered with a simple, "The E.B.S.I.S. is not a concern at this time." Any further questioning will be answered with the EXACT statement. As far as Trodell's knowledge of the base...he won't have a map, but he's spent a lot of time there. Still, he was just a pilot, and wasn't given information on the location of weapon systems...he just showed up to try 'em out. Therefore, in searching for the weapons, Trodell will be just about as lost as the characters. Overall, the characters should not be asking a bunch of questions. Besides that, Rick and Max will not be around long to ask. Everything should be wrapped up with a simple, "You will be given specific orders and instructions once you arrive at Siberia base."
