Aiding And Abetting

The Duke boys sped along Willow Creek road, it was a bright sunny day. Bo glanced into the rear view mirror and noticed red sedan, that was fast approaching them. Before Bo could say anything the car pulled up along side them. Someone in the car tossed a smoking canister into the General. The General quickly filled with smoke. Luke tried to find it, but was unable to. The red sedan pulled in front of them and cut them off. Bo slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting the car. The canister contained a knock out gas. Before either Bo or Luke could react, darkness consumed their minds and they fell into unconsciousness. Two men got out of the red sedan and walked over to the General. They took Bo out of the General and put him in the back seat of their car. One of the men took out a needle and injected Bo with a mild tranquillizer, to ensure he would not wake until he was secured. The other guy went back over the General. The smoke had cleared out completely. He placed an envelope with Luke's name on it, on he dashboard, then turned and went back to the car. They then sped off down the road away from the General.
About ten minutes later Luke woke up. His head was throbbing. He looked over at the driver's seat, to ask Bo if he was okay. Luke saw the seat was empty, and a wave of worry swept over him. He looked out the windows, hoping that maybe Bo had just got out of the General to get some fresh air. The envelope then caught his eye. He picked it up and saw his name on it, he didn't recognize the hand writing, and begun to grow even more worried. He pulled the note out slowly, and read it.

Luke Duke,

We have your cousin Bo. No harm shall come to him. As long as you do what we tell you to. For the time being return to your farm and await our call. At that time we shall give you further instructions. We suggest you obey them, for your cousin's sake.

None of your concern

Luke filled with worry, he slowly lowered the letter and took a deep breath. He slid over to the driver's seat, the put the letter back into the envelope, and put it in his pocket. He went to turn the keys to start the ignition and noticed his hands were trembling slightly. He sped off towards the Duke farm.
Jesse and Daisy were in the kitchen making lunch.
     "Where's Bo?"  Jesse asked.
Luke didn't respond, he stood there quietly, and slowly took the note out of his pocket. Jesse and Daisy noticed the worried look on Luke's face.
     "What's wrong?"  Jesse asked worriedly.
"Bo's been . . . " Luke started to say, his voice trailed off, he handed the note to Jesse.
Daisy stood by Jesse and read the letter at the same time. They both filled with worry. Jesse lowered the letter.
"When did this happen?"  Jesse asked his voice fraught with worry.
Luke then proceeded to tell them what had happened out on Willow Creek road. He was just finished telling them when the phone rang. They all looked worriedly towards the phone. Luke took a deep then picked up the phone. "Hello.
"Hello Luke."  the voice on the other end said, his voice cold and emotionless.
"What do you people want?"  Luke asked
"We would like you to do us a couple favours."  he said.
"First off how do I know that you really got Bo, and that he is okay? Let me talk to him."  Luke said in a slightly demanding voice.
"Now don't go giving us demands . . . unless you ain't concerned with your cousin's well being. I assure you he is fine, but I doubt that you will believe me so I will let you speak to him."  he said.
Bo had just started to wake up. The guy put the phone by Bo's face. "Here talk to your cousin. Tell him you are fine.  he said his voice cold and demanding.
"Luke?"  Bo asked his voice was groggy. His head was throbbing, he was barely awake. He could hardly even think straight.
"Bo are you okay?"  Luke asked worriedly, although there was a hint of relief at hearing Bo's voice.
"Yeah . . . I think so."  Bo said still groggily.
Before Luke could say anything else to Bo, he pulled the phone away from Bo. "There now you know he is fine."
"What is it you want?"  Luke asked.
"We want you to steal a display of fine jewels from the Hazzard jewel shop, and deliver them to the crossroads by Bronson's Canyon. Where you will find a box to put them in. Do this by midnight tonight. Don't try anything. If you do we will not be responsible for what happens to your cousin."  he responded coldly.
Before Luke could respond the guy slammed the phone. Luke flinched at the sound, then hung up the phone. He looked over at Jesse and Daisy and told them what he had been told.
"You can't do that."  Jesse said.
"I don't have much of a choice. I have to do it."  Luke said.
"But what if you get caught?"  Daisy asked.
"I'd rather take that chance then to risk anything happening to Bo."  Luke said.
"Do you really think they'd . . ."  Jesse asked his voice filled with worry, he was unable to say the words.
"I don't know. I would rather not find out."  Luke said.
Jesse didn't want Luke to do it, but he knew there was nothing he could do to stop him. He also very fraught with worry about Bo.
Bo sat quietly, he was tied to a chair. He couldn't tell where he was. He could barley even keep his eyes open, his vision was unfocused. The tranquillizer was still affecting him. He could feel unconsciousness creeping back into his mind. Bo figured there was at least three people, as he had heard three different voices. Two of them were male and one was female the all sounded cold and unfriendly. He tried to stay awake but soon his efforts were futile, he drifted back into a deep sleep.
Luke went outside and leaned against the General. He was filled with worry about Bo. He had no idea what he was going to do. Luke was deep in thought , thinking of how he was going to get the jewels, without getting caught. He didn't want to steal the jewels, but knew the consequences were a lot worse. He figured if he didn't steal the jewels, like they told him to, that Bo could be hurt badly, or worse yet they could kill him. He dreaded that thought, he would do whatever they wanted him to, he would do anything to ensure Bo's safety. Daisy came outside and placed a hand on Luke's shoulder, which pulled him out of his thoughts.
"Have you thought of what you are going to do yet?"  Daisy asked.
Luke shook his head. "No, not really. I figure I'll sneak in after it gets dark."
"Are you sure you want to go through with it?"  Daisy asked.
"Yeah. I mean if I don't there is no saying what they'd do to Bo. I am not going to risk that. I would do anything to keep Bo from getting hurt."  Luke said.
"I know you would. I'm just worried about you too, I mean what if it's a set up and the laws right there?"  Daisy asked.
"That's a chance I feel I have to take."  Luke said.
"Just be careful."  Daisy said then gave him a quick hug.
They were all to worried about Bo to eat any lunch. Daisy went to work at the Boar's Nest, and Jesse went out into the field. Luke decided to paint the General dark green, since it was the only colour they had in the barn. Figuring that way if anybody spotted him leaving the scene they wouldn't recognize the General.
It was about 6:00 and Bo started to wake up. His head was throbbing, he slowly opened his eyes and looked around. The room was dimly light. His eyes were having trouble adjusting to the lights. He could make out three figures sitting at a table on the far side of the room. One of them noticed he was awake and got up and walked over to he was tied. She was in her early thirties at the most. Her long red hair was pulled tightly back. She looked at Bo, her green eyes were cold and emotionless.
"Well your awake again. It's about time."  she said her voice cold.
Bo didn't say anything. He could barley remember what was going on. He also could barley recall talking to Luke on the phone, and that seemed like it was hardly real. That just seemed like a dream. With the small remainder of the tranquillizer in his system, he felt as though he was in a daze. He couldn't remember how he got there, or anything that had happened.
"Who are you people anyway?"  Bo asked, his voice dry and groggy.
"That is none of your concern."  she said.
"What do you want?"  Bo asked.
"That is also none of your concern."  she said then went over to the table. She came back with a glass of water. "Here I imagine that you are quite thirsty."  she said holding the glass to Bo's lips.
Bo drank the water. His throat started to feel better. "Actually I think it is my concern. Who are you? And what do you want?"
She smiled. "You are so inquisitive . . .and cute."
"Yeah well, just answer the question."  Bo said.
She raised her hand, as though to hit him, then gently laid her hand against Bo's cheek, and smiled. "You win country boy. I'll answer one of your questions. My name in Eliza."  she said. "And these are my associates Bret and Darrel."  she said motioning to each.
"Yeah well what is you want?" Bo asked
"Boy you are lucky that you are cute. That is not really your concern. Let's just put it this way, you had better hope that your cousin does what we tell him to, for your sake."  Eliza said.
"What do you mean?"  Bo asked.
"I mean unless he does some . . . favours for us you'll be the one to pay. And I just so hope that he does. I'd hate to have to damage that gorgeous body of yours."  Eliza said.
Bo gave a fake smile. He wondered what it was they wanted Luke to do. He hoped that Luke wasn't in any trouble. Eliza stood there for another couple moments, then turned and went back to the table with Bret and Darrel.
It was starting to grow dusk. Luke stood out by the General. Jesse and Daisy stood a few feet away.
"Are you sure that you want to go through with this? Maybe we should report this to Rosco."  Jesse said.
"Yeah I'm sure. What good would it do to tell Rosco? He wouldn't listen."  Luke said.
"But what are going to do is against the law."  Jesse said.
"I know that. It's not like I really want to, but considering the consequences...I mean there is no telling what they could do to Bo."  Luke said then slid into the General.
"Just be careful."  Jesse said. He hated the thought of Luke was going to do, but he hated the thought of something happening to Bo even more.
Luke sped away from the farm in a cloud of dust. He sped off towards town.
Luke pulled into the alley by the jewel shop, and parked the General, he climbed out of the window. Luke put on a pair of black gloves. The sun had set only about a half hour ago, but it was already quite dark. Dark thunder heads had rolled in. Luke heard a distant rumble of thunder as he approached the back door of the jewel shop. He placed his hand on the door knob and took a deep breath. He didn't want to commit this robbery, but he figured he had to. Luke knew he could never forget himself if anything bad happened to Bo, especially when there was something he could do to stop it from happening. Luke took a small pocket flashlight out and shone it on the lock, he also took out a lock pick kit which he borrowed from Cooter. Luke knew how to pick the lock, he had learned how to pick locks in the Marines. He shone the flashlight around the rob. Then sw the jewel display in a glass case behind the counter. Luke went over to the display case it was unlocked. He opened the case and took the box that held the jewels. He closed the case and made his way back to he door. He went outside and closed the door. It had just started to rain, there was a bright flash of lightening followed by a loud crack of thunder, the storm was on top of Hazzard. Luke slid into the General, he laid the box of jewels down carefully on the passengers seat, then sped off to deliver them. He was just outside of town when the rain started to pour down.
Bret and Darrel had left to wait to see if Luke was going to deliver the jewels as they told him to. Bo was alone in the cabin with Eliza. He had given up trying to break free from the ropes, whoever had tied them knew how to tie a good knot. The tranquillizer had basically wore off his system, he just sat quietly on the chair. Bo still couldn't remember what all had happened earlier, he hoped that Luke wasn't in any kind of trouble. He could hear the storm outside. He couldn't see the lightening as all the windows of the cabin were boarded shut. He could hear the wind howling, the rain beating against the side of the cabin, and the loud rumbles of thunder. Eliza sat in a chair by the fireplace, in which a small fire burned. She looked over at where Bo was, and smiled, then walked over to him. "How are you feeling?"
"I'd be feeling a lot better if you'd untie me."  Bo said and smiled.
Eliza smiled. "Well I'm not about to do that. At least not until your cousin does what he is told to."
"Y'all ain't gonna get away with this."
Eliza scowled. "Boy you're lucky your cute. Just don't push your luck. You are wrong, we will get away with this."  Eliza said placing a hand on Bo's cheek.
Bo pulled away from her touch. She put her hand back down.
     "Are you thirsty?"  Eliza asked.
Bo didn't respond.
"You ain't going to do yourself no good by not drinking anything."  Eliza said.
     "I ain't thirsty."
"Fine. Have it your way."  Eliza said and went and sat back down by the fire.
Luke reached the crossroads and slowed down. He then caught sight of a yellow box, in the headlights of the General. He got out of the car and went over to the box. Luke removed the lid from the box, on the bottom was an envelope with his name on it. He took the envelope and put the jewels in the box, then closed the box. Luke stood under a large oak tree, and was sheltered from the rain, he took the letter out of the envelope and read it.

Luke,
Do not bother to search this area for your cousin. As he is not here. We have him where you will never find him. Return to your farm, you shall receive further instructions by phone tomorrow morning.
None of your concern.

Luke put the note in his pocket then went and got into the General, and sped off back towards the farm.
Bret and Darrel had been sitting in their car, which was hide in a bush out of sight. After Luke left they got out and went over to the box. Bret bent down and took out the jewels. He smiled as he looked at them. "Looks like Eliza was right.
"Yeah ain't she always right?  She studied this town, and knows just how we are gonna get what we want."  Darrel said.
"We'd better get back now."  Bret said.
They went and got back into their car, and sped off towards their hideout.
Luke arrived back at the farm about fifteen minutes later, he parked the General in the barn. Jesse and Daisy were sitting in the front room. Luke went in and walked over by the fireplace to warm up.
     "Well any news?"  Jesse asked.
Luke shook his head. "No. But there was another note."  he said handing Jesse the note.
"Maybe we should tell Rosco."  Daisy said.
"What good would that do? He wouldn't help. It's not like he'd believe anything we told him."  Luke said.
"But you can't just keep doing whatever they tell you to."  Jesse said.
"What choice do I have? If I don't they might kill Bo."  Luke said.
Neither Jesse or Daisy knew what to say to that, they knew he was right. They knew there was now way to know what those people might do to Bo. Both of them were also very worried about Luke. They knew that Luke would do whatever the people told him to, no matter how against the law it was. Also they knew that he could get caught while he was doing what they wanted him to, and he could go to jail for a long time. Jesse and Daisy decided to just go to bed they figured that there was nothing they could do or say to change what was happening. Luke was tired but didn't want to go to bed. He was very worried about Bo. He tried to think of a way to get Bo back, without doing what those people wanted him to. Luke went and put another log on the fire, then sat down on a chair and stared at the fire. He didn't want to go to bed right now, cause he was filled with worry about Bo, and figured that it would make things seem worse by being in their room. None of them slept well that night, they all drifted in and out of a light sleep.
Meanwhile Bret and Darrel arrived back with the jewels. They took them over to the table, Eliza went over and joined them. They were talking but Bo couldn't really hear what they were saying. He heard some little pieces of their conversation. But enough to understand what was going on. Bo drifted in and out of a light sleep throughout the night. Bret and Darrel took turns watching him to be sure that he didn't escape. Bo had completely given up trying to get out of the ropes. He had tried but the ropes were so tight and his wrists had grown sore from trying, so he had given up trying to get free.
After what felt like an eternity to Luke, the next morning finally arrived. He stood up,  walked over to the window and looked out. The sun had just started to rise over the horizon. There was a beautiful sunrise, which coloured the sky in reddish orange. The rain had stopped about an hour ago, and there was not a single cloud in the sky. The grass and leaves all glistened with droplets of water. Jesse and Daisy got up a few minutes later. Jesse went into the kitchen to start breakfast. Daisy walked over and stood beside Luke, she gave him a hug, she said nothing. Luke put his arm around her and hugged her back. She stood there beside Luke for a couple moments, then went into the kitchen to help Jesse with breakfast. They all sat down at the table to eat. Nobody was really hungry, none of them ate very much. They all sat in silence, nobody knew what to say, they were all very worried about Bo. The phone rang breaking the silence. Daisy jumped, almost knocking over her glass of milk. Luke got up and answered the phone.
     "Hello."
"Hello Luke. It was good of you to get those jewels for us."  Bret said.
Luke scowled. "I want to talk to Bo."
"You ain't the one calling the shots here. We don't feel like letting you speak to him right now."  Bret said nastily. " If you are worried about his well being, let me assure you he is okay. And he will remain so as long as you do what we tell you to."
Luke closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Then opened his eyes as he exhaled. "What do you want me to do this time?"
"There is an armoured truck carrying artifacts that will passing through Hazzard at 3:00 this afternoon."
     "What kinda artifacts?"
"That is really no concern to you. All you need to do is get us a certain artifact from that truck. A golden statue of a phoenix, that has diamond wings, a jewel eye. Bring it Miller's cabin by 4:00 . . . and come alone."
"Yeah, but . . ."  Luke started to say.
"No buts. I don't have to remind you of the consequences to your cousin if you don't do this, do I?"
     "No."
"Good. You just do what you were told."
Luke slammed the phone down. Jesse and Daisy sat at the table looking at him to see what they had wanted this time. Luke sat down at the kitchen table and took a deep breath, then proceeded to tell them what he had to do this time.
"But that truck will no doubt be heavily guarded."  Jesse said.
"I know but . . . what choice do I have? If anything happens to Bo it'll be all my fault."
     "That ain't true."  Daisy said.
"Yes it is true. I have to do this."
"But if you get got you'll be sent away to prison for a long time."  Jesse said.
"I know that . . . but like I said before what choice do I have. If I don't they could kill Bo."  Luke said.
Luke got up from the table and went outside. Dark clouds had rolled in once again, and Luke could hear distant thunder.  He tried to think of what he was going to do, but he couldn't think of anything.
Eliza walked over and stood beside Bo, Bret and Darrel had gone out.
"How you feeling this morning?"  Eliza asked.
"Like you really care." Bo responded.
     "Oh but I do."
     "Yeah then untie these ropes. I won't try anything . . . I promise."
     "Yeah right."
     "No really, scouts honour."
Eliza smiled. "Is that so?"
     "Yeah, that's so."
Eliza smiled again a leaned over a kissed Bo on the lips, Bo kissed her back.
"Well if you promise, but how do I know I can trust you?"
"Do you think I would lie?"
Eliza smiled and then start to untie the ropes. Once she finished Bo sat and rubbed his wrists, they were quiet sore from were the ropes had been rubbing.
     "Much better thank you."
Eliza said nothing she kissed Bo again. He returned her kissed holding her in his arms.
"What kinda deal you got goin' on here anyways?"
     "What's it to you?"
Bo shrugged. "Just curious."
Eliza smiled and laughed. "Just after an artifact that is rumoured to lead the holder to a much greater treasure. We are gonna sell the jewels to get money to travel to wherever we must go."
"Sounds like a sweet little deal to me."
"Really? You don't seem the type that would be worried about money."
Bo smiled. "Yeah well money is what makes the world go round ain't it?"
Eliza smiled. "Yeah that it does. I never thought you'd say something like that, guess you are just full of surprises ain't ya?"
Bo smiled. "That I am. Look why don't you cut me in on your deal?"
"Are you serious? I mean would you be willing to go through with it all? I mean having all the blame placed on your cousin?"
"Yeah well money is more important than family".  Bo responded.
"I like your thinking. He'll take the fall we get the money and the treasure."
"That's right."  Bo said then kissed Eliza.
Darrel and Bret arrived back at the cabin.
     "Why's he untied?"  Bret asked.
"Because I untied him."  Eliza said.
"Why'd you do that?"  Bret questioned.
"I did it because he is now in on this deal with us."
     "What?"  Bret asked disbelievingly.
"What about the fact his cousin is taking the fall for the crime?"  Darrel asked.
"What about it? Like I care if he gets sent to prison money is more important then family."  Bo said.
After a few hours of thinking Luke came up with a plan to get the phoniex statue. He was working on the General's engine. There was still distant dark clouds filling the sky. Daisy came out of the house, and walked over and stood by Luke.
"Do you need any help?"  Daisy asked.
     "No."  Luke responded.
"Luke, let me help you get what they want."  Daisy said.
"No way, I am not gonna jeopardize your freedom or place you in any danger."
"But . . ."  Daisy started to argue.
"Daisy don't argue me on this. There is no way that I am going to let you come along."
"Luke, I just think that you may need some help. I don't think it is a good idea for you to go alone. At least let me follow behind when you deliver it in case something goes wrong."
     "No."
"What if they kill Bo even after you deliver it, or shoot you, or both. You could need some help".  Daisy said.
"The answer is still no. I will take my chances. I think after I deliver it they will release Bo. Everything will be fine."  Luke said, then closed the hood of the General.
It was already 2:30 so Luke got into the General and sped away from the farm towards where the armoured truck would be. He stopped the car on the ridge that over looked Highway 16, at 2:45,  and watched through binoculars, for the armoured truck. Fifteen minutes later he saw the truck.
Luke got back in the General and took a short cut to head the truck off. He stopped the car crossways across the road. Luke hid in the bushes.  The truck stopped inches from the General. There was only one guard with the truck. He got out of the truck to see what the problem was. Luke jumped out the bushes and grabbed the guy from behind and slid a bag over his head. Then he tied the guards hands the side mirror of the armoured truck. Luke took the keys and opened the back of the truck. He took a deep breath. He regretted what he was doing, but knew it was too late to back out now. He also knew if he didn't the real thieves would kill Bo.
He climbed into the truck. There was about twenty boxes. He had no idea which box the phoniex was in, so he just started to search each box. He found the golden phoniex in the fifth box that he looked in. He looked at the phoniex and noticed it had some inscription on it, in some ancient text that he could not decipher. He put the phoniex back into the box, and carried the box out of the truck. He put it on the front seat of the General, then got into the car. He sped off towards Miller's cabin.
Bret and Darrel stood out front of the cabin waiting for Luke.  Eliza and Bo sat inside talking while they waited for Luke to show up with the phoniex. Bret and Darrel where to signal them when Luke arrived so that they could carry through with the rest of their plan.
It was shortly before 4:00 when Luke pulled up in the front of Miller's cabin. Bret rapped his knuckles three times against the window when the General pulled up. Luke got out of the General.
     "Where's Bo?"  Luke asked.
     "Inside."  Darrel answered.
Luke took out of the box and set it on the hood of the car. "You ain't getting this till you let Bo go.
"Show us the artifact."  Darrel demanded.
Luke took out the phoniex and held it up for them to see, then put it back into the box. Bret knocked on the window again. Luke watched apprehensively as the door opened. Eliza came out first. Bo followed closely behind her.
"Bo."  Luke said happily. He was glad to see that Bo was okay.
Bo didn't say anything. He ran his fingers through his thick blonde hair, then walked over and stood beside Eilza, sliding his arm around her waist.
"What's going on here?"  Luke questioned.
"It is simple Lukas. We take the money you take the fall."  Bo said.
"Is this some kinda joke?"  Luke asked disbelievingly.
     "It ain't no joke cuz."
"So you been in on this the whole time?"
"No, not the whole time."  Bo answered.
"He just recently joined us."  Eliza answered.
"Why?"  Luke asked, still unable believe that Bo would do such a thing.
"For the money."  Bo responded nonchalantly.
"For the money? Bo Duke are you outta your mind . . ."  Luke started to say.
"Yeah for the money. Money is what makes the world go ‘round."  Bo said.
"Hand over the phoniex now."  Eliza demanded.
"Not a chance. You want it come and get."  Luke said.
Eliza scowled and then motioned for Bret and Darrel to get the phoniex from Luke. Bret attacked Luke first and with two swift punches Luke knocked him out. Darrel lunged at Luke. He hit Luke in jaw. Luke stumbled back a couple paces and stood and rubbed his jaw. Darrel came at him again. This time Luke avoid his fist and planted to firm punches of his own, knocking Darrel out.
Eliza pulled out gun and aimed it at Luke. "Okay we'll do this the hard way. Hand it over, now."
     "Fine. You win."  Luke said.
Luke took the phoniex out of the box and walked towards Eliza and Bo. He was about five feet from them when Bret and Darrel got up. Darrel grabbed and held Luke from behind. Bret took the phoniex away from Luke. Bret handed the phoniex to Eliza.
"What do we do about him?"  Darrel asked.
"First off got teach him a lesson about disobeying an order."  Eliza answered.
"That is a lesson that will be fun to teach."  Bret said, smiling.
"Then we set him up to take the fall for the jewel robbery."  Eliza said.
Luke didn't say anything, he just stood staring at Bo. He couldn't believe that Bo had any part of this. Bret hit Luke in the stomach. Luke flinched at the pain and gasped to catch his breath. Bo had been trying to avoid making any eye contact with Luke. He could see the sense of betrayal in Luke's eyes and turned away.
"While they teach him a lesson, let's go in and start to decipher this thing."  Eliza said.
     "Let's."  Bo said.
Eliza and Bo were sitting looking at the phoniex. About five minutes later, Bret and Darrel came into the cabin, dragging Luke's unconscious body behind him. They tied him where Bo had been previously been tied.
     "Now what?"  Bret asked.
"Tomorrow morning the law will find him along with some of the stolen jewels in his car. That is after his little accident."  Eliza said.
     "What accident?"  Bret asked.
"The car accident, after he crashes his car."  Eliza said.
Bret smiled. "Oh I get it."
Luke slowly started to wake up, he had no idea how much time had passed. He glanced around the cabin, trying to focus his eyes. His vision was blurry he was vaguely aware of two other people in the room with him.
Eliza and Bo walked over to where Luke was tied.
"Well you finally woke up."  Bo said.
"We were starting to think that you'd never wake up. Not that it makes much a difference."  Eliza said.
"You ain't gonna get away with this."  Luke said.
     "Oh really?"  Eliza asked.
     "Yeah really."  Luke said.
"And who is going to stop us, you?"  Eliza asked then laughed. "You look a little to tied up to stop us from getting away with this."
"Bo, what is your problem. Why are you doing this? And don't tell me that it is for money."  Luke asked.
Bo shrugged. "Maybe cause I am sick and tired of always doing the right thing."
"But . . . " Luke started to say but Bo cut his sentence off.
"Just forget about it Luke, it really ain't none of your concern."
Luke didn't respond to Bo's last comment, as he had no idea what to say, he couldn't believe what was happening or that Bo had betrayed his trust in such a way.
Eliza and Bo walked away from Luke. Luke tried to free himself from the ropes. Luke found that the ropes were actually not tied very tightly at all. Luke watched Eliza, Bret, Darrel and Bo as he worked on getting free from the ropes.
Bo glanced over at where Luke was tied, he saw that Luke was looking over at where he was sitting and he quickly glanced away.
"He ain't gonna be goin' no where, till tomorrow that is, you said before you tied the ropes good and tight, right?"  Eliza commented when she noticed that Bo had glanced over at where Luke was tied.
"Yeah, the ropes are tight."  Bo replied.
"So what are you worrying about?"  Eliza questioned.
Bo shrugged. "Nothing. I mean he ain't going no wheres he's tied to a chair."
Eliza smiled and laughed. "Yeah that is right."
That next couple of hours seemed to take an eternity, to Luke, to go by. Luke final managed to get free from the ropes, his wrists dully ached from were the ropes had been rubbing against his skin. The room was lit by only one small lamp in the far corner from Luke. Luke glanced around the room. Bret was by the door, holding a shotgun, he had obviously fallen asleep. Luke quietly walked over to the door, and opened it. As he opened the door the old rusty hinges on the door squeaked, wakening Bret. Luke ran out the door, Bret fired a shot that just narrowly missed hitting Luke.
Everyone else heard the shot and came out to see what the problem was.
     "What happened?"  Eliza asked.
     "He got away."  Bret replied.
"How did he get away . . ."  Eliza started to say then turned to face Bo. "I thought you said you tied those ropes tight."
Bo just shrugged. "Guess not."
Luke was hiding behind a large oak tree, he could see and hear the conversation between Eliza and Bo. The sky had cleared and was brightly lit by the light of a full moon. Luke glanced over at where the General Lee was. He knew that he could get to the General and get away before anyone knew what was happening, but he knew to that he couldn't leave Bo, he had a feeling that there was a lot more going on then what met the eye.
"Watch him, I have the feeling that we have been double crossed."  Eliza said, then went back into the cabin.
She came back out of the cabin moments later she came back out, with a furious look on her face. "Where is the phoniex?
Bo shrugged. "I don't know."
Eliza looked at Bret. "Did you see if the other Duke boy was carrying it?"
"I couldn't tell, didn't look like it?"  Bret answered.
Eliza turned back to face Bo. "Where is your cousin?"
     "I don't know."  Bo replied.
"He can't to be too far away y'alls car is still here. So where is he?"
Bo shrugged.
Luke realized that Bo had been faking that he had joined their gang, because Bo knew that after he had delivered the phoniex they would've killed both them. He felt bad that he had actually believed that Bo had betrayed him and that he thought that Bo would ever do such a thing. Luke tried to think of a way to get himself and Bo out of there safely, but he couldn't think of anything. He stepped forward, stepping on to a twig. The twig snapped loudly beneath his weight. Bret, Darrel and Eliza turned towards where the sound had came from. While they were distracted Bo ran off the porch, towards where the General was parked.
Darrel fired a shot towards where the sound had came from. The bullet struck the tree that Luke was hiding behind, but was not near where Luke was standing. Bret saw Bo trying to get away and fired a shot at him. The bullet struck him in the left arm, and Bo feel to the ground. Bret fired another shot at where Bo was laying, the bullet just narrowly missed him and ricocheted off the ground inches from his head.
Bo rolled behind a tree to avoid being shot, again. Luke rushed over to where Bo was hiding, just narrowly avoiding being shot himself. Bo sat up and leaned against the tree, clenching his wounded arm tightly. Luke crouched down in front of Bo.
"Are you okay?"  Luke asked concernedly.
     "Been better."  Bo said.
"How bad is it?"  Luke asked.
Bo moved his hand to show Luke the wound. Luke looked at the gunshot wound.
"At least it's a clean shot, the bullet passed right through. Your lucky."  Luke said.
"Don't feel that lucky."  Bo said jokingly. "Look about before . . . "
"Forget about it. I know what you where doing."
Luke cautiously glanced around the tree and saw that Eliza, Bret and Darrel were coming to where they were hiding.
"We had better get before they get here."  Luke said. "Where is that phoenix anyways?"
     "It's hid."  Bo said.
Luke gave Bo a look of cute. "Where?"
     "In the General."
"Okay, well let's get out of here."
"Sure. But you had better drive, I ain't quite feeling up to it."  Bo said then laughed.
Bo and Luke ran and got into the General. Bret and Darrel fired at them, narrowly missing hitting them, a few bullets ricocheted of the General. One bullet hit the windshield, making a spider web crack across half the window. They got into their car and chased after the General.
Luke could still see out the window and sped away from the canyon. He knew that he had to get Bo to a hospital to have the gunshot wound taken care off. It was bleeding quite bad, Bo's sleeve was drenched in blood.  Luke glanced into the rearview mirror and could see the headlights of the other car fastly approaching them. Luke turned off the road, the other car followed. Luke glanced worriedly over at Bo, he knew Bo was in more pain from the gunshot then he let on. Bo was clenching the wound tightly. His whole left arm burned with a hot stabbing pain.
Luke then accelerated the General more as they approached Willow Creek. Then he jumped the General across the creek. The General landed gracefully on the other side. The crooks car only made it half way, the car splashed into the creek.
Luke sped off towards the hospital. Luke called Jesse and Daisy while he waited for Bo, in the waiting room. Luke told them it wasn't serious and they would be home tomorrow after everything was all worked out. About half an hour later Bo came out into the waiting room. His arm was bandaged and in a sling. Bo walked over to where Luke was waiting.
     "How ya doin'?"  Luke asked.
     "Fine."  Bo replied.
The doctor came over and gave Bo a bottle of pain killers.
"Take one of these if whenever the pain returns."  Dr. Harris said.
     "Okay."  Bo said.
Bo and Luke left the hospital. They took the phoenix to the state police and told them what happened.
The next day Bo and Luke went back to the farm. Daisy rushed over and hugged Bo, being careful to avoid his injured arm.
"We were so worried about you."  Daisy said.
     "I'm fine."  Bo said.
"What about your arm?"  Daisy asked concernedly.
"It's fine, it wasn't that bad."  Bo said.
Then Jesse expressed his joy that both Bo and Luke had returned home safely and that everything was okay.
Later that day the police caught Eliza, Bret, and Darrel. Bret and Darrel testified against Eliza, and they were all sentenced to life in prison for kidnaping and grand theft.
Normally this would be a point when things return to normal in Hazzard, be that normal from Hazzard, which is not normal for anywhere else. However not this time. Things didn't return to normal after all this, anything but normal. Of course all that is another story. Which will be told another time.
