Bo sped along the back roads towards Greenville,
in a loaner car, from Cooter, to get some tractor parts. The General Lee
had a busted carburetor float valve and Luke stayed at the farm to fix
it so the car would be ready for the race on Saturday. Bo glanced into
the rearview mirror and noticed a car coming up behind, it was weaving
slightly all across the road. Within moments the car got up to him, and
slammed into the back end of the car. Bo sped up slightly, he could tell
the way the person was driving that they were obviously drunk. He wished
there was room enough to pull off the side of the road, but the road dropped
off on both sides with an embankment. The car sped up behind him, ramming
once again in the back end of the car, harder this time. Bo momentarily
lost control of the car, the tires hit the edge of the embankment. Bo cursed
under his breath as he felt the car going off the edge of the road, knowing
there was no way to stop it. Everything seemed to go in slow motion as
the car flipped and rolled down the embankment. Bo could hear the metal
crumbling and glass shattering all around him. He banged his head against
the steering wheel and his world went black. The car finally came to stop
as it slammed against a tree on the bottom of the embankment.
A car was passing the other way. The person
stopped, they quickly made note of the car that caused the accidents licence
plate number. They ran down the embankment to see if the person in the
car that crashed was okay. The driver of the car that stopped was an older
man, in perhaps is late fifties. He knelt down by the car, which was upside
down, and noticed the young blonde man slumped forward in the seat was
the only one in the car.
"Hey buddy, are you okay?" he asked, and then
noticed the blood that was trickling down the side of his face from the
cut on his temple.
He rushed back up the embankment and called for an ambulance. Then
went back down the car to try to help the young man. As he approached the
car the smell of gas filled his nostrils he realised the car was leaking
gas and that the slightest spark could cause it go up in a ball of fire.
He bent down the car, he reached in and two of fingers against the injured
Bo's throat, there was a steady pulse. He figured he had best get the young
man out and way from the car before it possibly exploded. He knew he had
to be careful not to aggravate any injures he may already have and to be
careful with his neck. He moved himself partly into the upside down car,
and slid one arm carefully around Bo. He unbuckled the seat belt then put
his other arm around Bo as well. He carefully backed out of the car, pulling
Bo's limp body with him. Once out of the car he carefully picked Bo up
and carried him to what he thought was a safe distance from the wrecked
car. The sound of sirens started to fill the air. The police questioned
the man as the ambulance attendants loaded Bo into the back of the ambulance.
The ambulance then sped off to Capitol City Hospital. The police finished
questioning the man about the car that caused the accident, and a tow truck
came a hauled the wrecked car away.
Bo woke and groggily opened his eyes, his
vision was blurry and his head throbbed dully. He brought one hand up to
his temple to feel his bandaged forehead. He frowned as he tried to remember
what happened. For a moment he couldn't think of who he was, then his name
cam to him, he was Bo Hogg. He sat up in the bed and rubbed his head to
try to rid himself of the pounding headache. A doctor came into the room.
"Oh good you are awake. We were worried you
Mr . . . sorry but what is your name? You had no identification on you
when you were brought in." the doctor said.
"I am Bo Hogg."
"I am Doctor Greene."
Bo shook the doctors hand. "What happened? I don't remember how I got
here."
"You were in a car accident. You got away
quite lucky actually with only some bruises and that bump to the head."
Dr. Greene said. "I want to ask you some questions to determine the extant
of your injury. To see how much you remember."
Bo nodded. "Okay."
"Where are you from?" Dr. Greene asked.
"Hazzard County." Bo replied.
"How old are you?" Dr. Greene asked.
"Twenty Two." Bo said.
Dr. Greene asked a couple more questions then seemed satisfied that
Bo seemed to remember everything except the accident. But knew that was
common with lots of people the mind purposely tended to forget stuff like
that.
"Okay you can call some one to come and get
you from the hospital." Dr. Greene said.
"Yeah, I'll call my daddy to come get me."
Bo said, and followed Dr. Greene to a phone to call home.
Bo picked up the phone and dialled the number for the Hogg residence,
he hoped that his daddy was home, he thought if he wasn't maybe he could
call his Uncle Rosco.
J.D Hogg picked up the phone wondering who
was calling him. Thinking it might be his wife Lulu who was away at the
"fat farm."
"Hello?" Boss said.
"Hey daddy." Bo said.
Boss looked at the phone for a moment not knowing what to say. Rosco
who was standing near by looked at him curiously, wondering who was on
the other end of the phone.
"What are you calling here for?" Boss asked,
he wondered if this was some kind of trick it had been almost two years
since the time Bo had amnesia and he tricked Bo into thinking he was a
Hogg, to have him run a load of shine.
"I was in a little bit of a car accident daddy."
Bo said.
Boss could hear the sincerity of Bo calling him daddy, like he truly
believed it. "Oh that's terrible. Are you okay?"
"Yeah I am fine daddy. I just got a little
bump on the head is all." Bo said.
Boss smiled, realising that Bo had amnesia and thought that he was
his daddy. He thought of all the fun he could have with Bo thinking that.
He hoped it was long lasting amnesia. "Where are you at?"
"Capitol City hospital." Bo said.
"Okay you sit tight I'll be right there to
get you sonny." Boss said.
"What ever you say daddy." Bo said.
Boss hung up and turned and smiled at Rosco.
"Who was that Boss?" Rosco asked.
"It was Bo." Boss said.
"What's he doing calling you?" Rosco said.
"Because he hit his head and he has amnesia
and thinks I am his daddy. He thinks he is Bo Hogg. It is the glorious
return of Bo Hogg." Boss said, happily.
"Oh." Rosco said, Boss's words slowly sinking
in.
"This time we will use Bo to drive the Dukes
clean out of Hazzard for good." Boss said.
"Oh that is just brilliant Boss." Rosco said.
"Now c'mon let's go get sonny boy." Boss said.
Bo sat waiting in the hospital lobby. He smiled
when he caught site of his daddy's big white convertible, which pulled
to a stop in front of the hospital.
"Daddy, Uncle Rosco." Bo called out happily,
waving to them.
Boss and Rosco came over to him.
"How you feeling sonny?" Boss asked.
"Fine except for a headache." Bo said.
"That's good." Boss said. "Now let's get you
back home."
The three of them walked into the Hogg house.
Boss had a smug smile, like the cat who just shallowed the canary. Bo sat
down on the couch.
"How's your headache doing?" Boss asked.
"About the same." Bo said.
"Uncle Rosco why don't you go get Bo a couple
aspirin and glass of ice water." Boss said.
"Yes sir, Daddy Hogg." Rosco said, and went
to do as Boss had told him to.
Boss sat down on a chair across from Bo. "Do you remember anything
about the horrible Duke family?"
"Only what you told me daddy. They are a batch
of no good varmints and I should avoid them like the plague." Bo said.
"Yes I guess you don't remember why. You forget
all that happened. I thought it best not to tell you, but you have the
right to know." Boss said.
Bo raised his eyebrows. "What do you mean daddy?"
"Do you remember that picture of them that
I showed you?" Boss asked.
"Yes sir Daddy." Bo said. "Why?"
"You see I didn't want you to see it because
you were in it." Boss said.
"What? Why?" Bo asked.
"You see you used to be friends with Luke
Duke, until he betrayed your trust. He was just using you to get at me.
That orange car he drives belongs to both of you, but he keeps it all to
himself. I didn't want to upset you before by telling you sonny, it broke
your heart the way the person you thought was friend betrayed your trust
and was only using you." Boss said.
"That low down varmint. I'd like to teach
him a thing or two." Bo said.
Rosco came back into the room and handed Bo the aspirin and the water.
"Thanks Uncle Rosco." Bo said.
Rosco noticed an angry look on Bo's face. "What's the matter Bo?"
Before Bo could answer Boss answered for him. "I told him how his EX-friend
Luke Duke used him and betrayed his trust."
"Oh . . . oh yeah that low down varmint."
Rosco said.
Bo smiled slightly. "Yeah. I'm gonna make him wish that he never messed
with the Hogg's. I'll make him pay for double crossing Bo Hogg. Him and
all the Dukes."
Boss smiled. Thinking of how much fun this would be, he was glad that
his wife was out of town. And that honest deputy Enos Strate was visiting
his aunt and uncle in Nashville. There was nobody to discover their plans
until Bo Hogg delivered the first blow.
"Yes we will drive them no good Dukes outta
Hazzard for good." Boss said.
"Let the games begin." Bo said joyfully, and
gave a loud rebel yell.
Luke shut the hood of the General, satisfied
with the way the engine was running, he figured there was no way that they
could lose the race on Saturday. Daisy pulled to a stop and got out of
her jeep.
"Hey Daisy." Luke said.
"Hey Luke." Daisy said. "Ain't Bo back yet?"
Luke shook his head. "No not yet."
"I thought he was going to be home by three."
Daisy said.
"Yeah but you know Bo, he probably found something
more interesting to be doing and just forgot to call." Luke said.
Daisy laughed. "Yeah true."
A few minutes later Jesse pulled into the
yard in his pick up truck. He climbed out and walked over to where Luke
and Daisy where standing, by the porch. After exchanging greetings the
three of them went inside the small farm house. They started to make dinner.
"Where's Bo? Ain't he back from Greenville
yet?" Jesse asked.
"No sir. But you know Bo he probably found
something else to do." Luke said.
Jesse looked sceptical.
"What's the matter Uncle Jesse?" Daisy asked,
noticing the look on his face.
"It is just that my big toe has been hurting,
and when that big toe hurts that means trouble." Jesse said.
"Do you think Bo could be in trouble?" Daisy
asked.
"I hope not, however I think we should go
and look for him, try to reach him on the CB. I hope that my big toe is
wrong." Jesse said.
They all left the house and got into their own vehicles and searched
the roads between Hazzard and Greenville, trying to reach him on the CB.
Luke called Jesse on the CB.
"I can't find no sign of him Uncle Jesse I
am going to go to Greenville to see if he picked up the tractor parts."
Luke said.
"Okay. You be sure to tell me if you find
anything out." Jesse said.
"Yes sir." Luke said, ans sped off the Greenville.
A while later Luke contacted Jesse on the CB again.
"What did you find out?" Jesse asked.
"Bo never picked up the tractor parts, so
he wasn't in Greenville." Luke said.
Jesse started to grow even more concerned. "If he had a such a major
change of plans he'd told us."
"I am sure that he is fine." Luke said, trying
to hide the worry in his voice.
"I am going to search all the garages between
here and Greenville to see if Bo had some kind of car trouble." Jesse said.
"I am sure it is nothing too serious Uncle
Jesse. I mean if he was in an accident the hospital would've called us."
Luke said.
"I hope you are right Luke." Jesse said. "I
want you and Daisy to keep searching all the back roads for any sign of
Bo. We'll meet back at the farm at five thirty, okay?"
"Yes sir Uncle Jesse." Luke said.
At five thirty the three Dukes met back at the Duke farm.
"Any luck?" Jesse asked.
"No sir." Luke said. "I CB'ed Cooter to keep
an eye out for Bo."
Daisy shook her head. "No I couldn't find any sign of Bo anywhere."
Jesse sighed. "I didn't have any luck either. I think we'd better go
report to Rosco that Bo is missing."
"Do you think that'll do any good?" Luke asked.
"Now I know that Rosco might be slow and not
always helpful to us, but this is far to important to hold that against
him. All I am concerned about is finding Bo." Jesse said.
Luke nodded. ‘Yes sir."
They headed into town, to talk to Rosco.
They walked into the police station. Rosco
looked up from a pile of papers.
"Oh good grief, what do you Dukes want?" Rosco
asked.
"Bo's missing, we wanted your help to find
him." Jesse said.
"I ain't got time to waste on such piddling
things." Rosco said.
"Rosco this is serious Bo could be in trouble."
Jesse said.
"I got more important things to do then be
out looking for Bo Duke." Rosco said. "Now run along before I run you y'all
in."
"I knew it'd do no good to talk to him about
this." Luke said.
"Come on kids, let's get back to the farm
maybe Bo's came back." Jesse said, Luke and Daisy followed him from the
Sheriff's office.
After they left Rosco went to tell Boss that
the Dukes were looking for Bo. Rosco talked to Boss away from Bo.
"Boss the Dukes are out looking for Bo." Rosco
said.
"Let them look. Though they'll regret it when
they do find him." Boss said.
"What do you mean?" Rosco said.
Boss opened the door, slightly, to the room that Bo was in. Rosco noticed
that Bo was sitting on a chair preparing some dynamite arrows.
"Cause he is preparing to go Duke hunting."
Boss said. "They'll never find Bo Duke, there is only Bo Hogg."
Rosco smiled. "Oh. They'll sure be in for a real surprise."
Bo heard Boss and Rosco talking and looked up. He smiled at them.
"Hey Daddy, Uncle Rosco." Bo said.
"Hey sonny." Boss said. "How you coming with
those arrows?"
"Just fine. About ready to go Duke hunting."
Bo said, smiling.
"Oh good." Boss said.
Daisy went to work even though she was worried
about Bo. Luke and Jesse kept looking for any sign of Bo, growing increasingly
worried as there was no sign of him anywhere. At around ten that night
they called off the search, too exhausted to look anymore, figuring to
get a fresh start in the morning. Luke went to the Boar's Nest for a couple
beers. He sat quietly at the bar, constantly trying to think of where Bo
could be. It was about time for the Boar's Nest to close and Luke and Daisy
were the only ones left there. Daisy closed up and they walked out of Boar's
Nest. Clouds blocked the light from the moon making it impossible to see
anything. They heard someone approaching them. Daisy turned on the light
outside the Boar's Nest. They both smiled when they saw Bo, though their
smiles faltered when they saw the dark smile on Bo's lips.
"Bo where have you been?" Daisy asked. "We
have been so worried."
"Save it for someone who cares. I frankly
don't want to hear any of you Duke's lies." Bo said.
"What are you talking about?" Luke said.
"You know what I am talking about." Bo said.
Bo took a few steps towards them. He had a key in his hand and scrapped
it along the side of the General Lee.
"Bo Duke, have you lost your mind?" Daisy
asked.
"I am not a Duke. I am Bo Hogg. So save your
lies." Bo said.
"He's lost his mind Luke." Daisy said.
"No he hasn't Daisy." Luke said and sighed.
"He has just lost his memory."
"I have NOT lost my memory. I am aware of
what is the truth. I know of all your lies and deceit." Bo said.
"Bo, you know that ain't true." Luke said,
taking a step towards Bo.
"Save it Luke Duke. Your lies are the worst.
You betrayed my trust." Bo said.
"That is a lie. You know that I would never
do that Bo." Luke said.
"I don't want to hear your lies. You are all
a batch of low down varmints that need to be driven from Hazzard County
for good. My daddy told me all about your lies." Bo said, and started to
walk away, he stopped and turned back to face them again. "Oh and Luke,
enjoy the car while you can."
"What does that mean?" Luke asked.
"You'll see." Bo said and laughed, then walked
off into the darkness.
"He is totally out of his mind Luke." Daisy
said.
Luke shook his head. "No he has amnesia, like that time before. He
must have been in some kind of an accident."
"Yeah but the way he is acting, not knowing
that he is a Duke." Daisy said.
"I think that Boss Hogg brainwashed him. We
should get home and tell Uncle Jesse that we have found Bo." Luke said.
Luke and Daisy walked inside the farmhouse. Jesse was sitting
on the couch, he was too worried about Bo to sleep.
"Uncle Jesse we have some good news and some
bad news." Luke said.
"What did you find Bo?" Jesse asked.
Luke took a deep breath and slowly released it, then proceeded to tell
Jesse about everything that had happened.
An angry look spread across Jesse's face. "I'm going over to J.D.'s
and teach him a thing or two for taking advantage of Bo. And I am going
to drag Bo back here and make him see the truth."
"Just calm down Uncle Jesse. With the way
Bo is acting right now I don't think that'd do any good. It would only
make Bo angry and probably make him hate us more then he does now. We have
to get him to sit down and listen to reason. I mean I am sure we can help
him to see the truth." Luke said.
"How do you plan on doing that?" Daisy asked.
"I am sure if I can just get Bo to remain
calm and sit down to have a rational discussion I can help him to see the
truth. And maybe show him some old pictures. Try to help his memory come
back." Luke said.
"That's a good idea Luke. I am sure that Bo
will listen to reason, He has to know deep down that we are his family."
Jesse said.
Luke nodded. "First thing in the morning I'll try to find him and talk
some sense into that thick head of his."
Luke laid awake in bed the next couple hours
trying to think of what to say to Bo to open his eyes to truth. He was
angry at Boss for brainwashing Bo like that, taking advantage of his amnesia.
It hurt that Bo could actually believe all those lies. He wondered what
Bo meant by betraying his trust. The boys had always had a very close bonded
brotherly relationship. There had always been complete trust between the
two of them. Bo seemed to have blind faith in his older cousin, and looked
up to him. His behaviour now showed the exact opposite. Luke closed his
eyes reliving what had happened that night. His heart was filled with sadness
he couldn't help but feel like Bo had been stolen from them. He started
to wonder just what Bo meant by, enjoy the car while you can. His thoughts
became blurred as he slipped into a restless sleep.
The next morning after breakfast the Dukes
went to go into town to talk to Cooter about what had happened with Bo.
They went out and saw that every tire on every car had been slashed.
"We had just bought a set of new tires for
Saturday's race, they are in the barn I hope that Bo didn't think about
them and slash them to." Luke said.
Luke went into the barn and saw the tires had been untouched. He changed
all four tires on the General and then popped the hood to check the engine
over.
"What are you doing?" Jesse asked.
"I am just checking everything over to see
if Bo tampered with it." Luke said.
"Do you really think that Bo would do that?
I mean to actually endanger . . ." Jesse started to ask.
"I don't know. That is why I am checking.
Normal I'd say no, however with the way he was acting last night, so cold
and hateful and not knowing who he is I really don't know." Luke said.
Luke finished checking the car over, and finding nothing wrong they headed
into town. They pulled up at Cooter's garage he came out to greet them
and they started to tell him all about what happened with Bo last night.
Rosco was driving Boss's convertible with
Bo and JD in the back seat. They past Cooter's garage. Bo saw all the Dukes
there and frowned.
"Who is that the Dukes are with?" Bo asked.
"That is Cooter Davenport. He is there friend.
He is just as bad as them Dukes. He always helps with their scheming and
plotting against us." Boss said.
"He should be driven out of town just like
them low down Dukes." Bo said.
Boss smiled. "That's for sure sonny."
"By the time I am done them Dukes will be
more then willing to leave Hazzard for good." Bo said.
Later that day the Jesse took out an old box
of pictures ans sat them on the table in the front room. Jesse, Daisy and
Luke looked through the box, trying to find pictures that they thought
would best help Bo remember who he truly was. Looking at all the old pictures
invoked a lot different emotions, but still one emotion remained over all
other worry about Bo. They chose out a couple pictures that they thought
were the best at helping Bo see the truth.
"I sure hope that this works." Jesse said.
Neither Luke nor Daisy said anything and three of them went out to
look for Bo.
Bo was driving along the back roads of Hazzard,
in a car that Boss had given him from his used car lot. A black roadrunner.
He was trying to put together all the details of his plan to drive the
Dukes from Hazzard for good. He was trying to decide what he should do
next. He heard the sound of a powerful engine coming up the road behind
him. He glanced in the rear view mirror and saw the General Lee quickly
approaching. Not knowing that Bo was in the car ahead of them Luke went
to go around. Bo pulled the car into the other lane, narrowly missing hitting
the General. Luke backed off a little.
"That guy is crazy what does he think he is
doing?" Daisy questioned rhetorically.
"It is Bo." Luke said.
"Are you sure?" Jesse asked.
Luke nodded. "I can tell from how he drives."
"Well cut him off make him stop." Jesse said.
"If I can with out getting us run off the
road." Luke said.
Luke tried again to pass but was unsuccessful, the two cars lightly
banged together. Luke cursed silently under his breath and tried again,
this time he was successful. He pulled in front of the other car, and stopped
crossways on the road. Bo slammed on the brakes and stopped inches from
hitting the General. Bo got out of the car, eyes held a look of anger and
hate. The Dukes got out of the General and approached Bo.
"Just what is your problem?" Bo asked.
"Bo, just calm down. We have to talk." Luke
said.
"I don't want to talk to you." Bo said.
"Can't you see that Boss is lying to you?
He is just taking advantage of you." Daisy said.
"Save it. I don't want to talk to any of you
Dukes." Bo said.
"You are a Duke." Jesse said.
"Yeah right old man." Bo said.
"Bo would you just calm down and listen to
reason." Luke said, placing a hand on Bo's shoulder.
Bo shrugged Luke's hand off and shoved Luke. Luke stumbled back a couple
steps but managed to remain standing.
"Just look at these pictures, if you don't
believe it." Luke said handing Bo the pictures.
Bo glanced at them and shrugged. "Yeah so? My daddy told me all about
your lies and your deceit."
"And what exactly did he tell you?" Daisy
asked.
"That Luke faked being my friend using my
trust in him to get at my daddy. And then he completely betrayed that trust."
Bo said, his voice filled with hate.
"That is not true Bo. We are cousins, you
are my best friend, and have always been like a brother to me." Luke said.
"Yeah right. I don't believe your lies." Bo
said.
In one quick movement Bo took a match from his pocket and lit it, watching
the flame burn on the end of the match for a moment then lit the pictures
on fire.
"Here is what I think of your lies." Bo said
and touched the burning pictures at them.
The Dukes watched the pictures turn to ash. Bo laughed and got back
into his car. He backed a little ways down the road then did a U-turn and
sped off in the other direction leaving the Dukes standing in the middle
of the road.
Knowing that the Dukes weren't home Bo went
to the Duke farm, to have a little fun. He stopped the car by the edge
of the field, and looked out across the crops. A mischievous smile spread
across his face. He pressed the accelerator the floor and sped through
the filed. He drove through the entire field, doing One-Eighty's leaving
deep tire marks, as the dirt was tossed up. After about ten minutes he
had destroyed the entire field. Bo looked at the field and smiled at his
handy work then headed up to the farmhouse.
He sped through the yard and slammed on the
brakes, stopping inches before hitting the house. He got out of the car
and looked around the yard. Bo smiled, a cold dark smile. He got his bow
and arrows from the trunk of his car. He readied an arrow and watched the
chickens that scurried around the yard, paying no mind to the intruder.
He pulled the arrow back and took careful aim at one of the chickens. He
released the arrow, and it flew through the air and struck the chicken.
The chicken gave a small squawk of surprise before it fell over dead. The
other chickens hearing it, took off in a frenzy of flapping wings and scared
squawks Bo walked over to where the chicken lay. He bent over and picked
it up by its feet. He carried it towards the house. He tried the door,
smiling that it was unlocked, and walked inside. He tossed the chicken
on to the table, leaving the arrow in its dead body. He noticed a pad of
paper and pen near the phone, and decided to leave the Dukes a little note:
Just thought that you'd like to have chicken tonight.
He didn't bother to sign figuring they would know it was from him anyway. He walked into the front room and noticed the box of pictures on the table. He glanced at couple of them frowning at the lies they had told him. He looked up at the fire place and the frown was replaced with and evil grin. He picked up the box and tossed all the pictures into the fireplace. He set the box back where it had been on the table. He knelt down in front off the fireplace, and lit a match, and tossed it in onto the pictures. He smiled as he watched all the pictures catch fire. He got another piece of paper to leave another note:
This old run down shack is just so cold, so I thought that I'd start a nice little fire. All I could find to use as kindling though was the contents of this here box. Sure made a nice little fire.
He put the note in the bottom of the box, and then watched the fire
burn for a couple moments. He decided he should leave before they got home,
he could always return later to cause more mischief to drive the Dukes
from Hazzard for good.
About ten minutes after Bo left the Dukes
arrived back at the farm. They had taken the main road back to the farm,
thus didn't see what Bo had done to the field. They were all still too
much in shock about what had happened, and too worried about Bo to notice
the smoke coming from the chimney or that the chickens were not in the
yard as usual. Daisy was the first to go into the house, she gasped when
she saw the dead chicken laying on the table. Luke heard and rushed inside
after her. Jesse was close behind him.
"What . . ." Luke started to ask and then
noticed the dead chicken. He noticed the note and picked it up. "It was
Bo he didn't sign his little note, but I recognize his handwriting."
Luke handed the note to Jesse, who read the note and sighed deeply,
he couldn't believe that Bo was capable of doing such a thing.
"Go check on the other animals Luke." Jesse
said, as he cleaned up the mess.
Luke nodded and headed out to the barn. Daisy stood silently near the
door, hoping that Bo hadn't killed all the other animals like he had the
chicken. A couple moments later Luke came back inside.
"They are all fine." Luke said.
"Good." Jesse said finishing cleaning up all
the blood from the chicken.
Luke and Daisy went to go into the front room. Daisy was the first
to really notice the fire that burned in the fireplace.
"I don't remember having a fire going when
we left." Daisy said.
"There wasn't." Luke said.
They went over to the fireplace, not noticing the box of pictures was
empty except for the note. They looked at the black ashes in the bottom.
"I wonder what he burned." Daisy said.
Jesse came into the room and noticed the empty box, he picked up the
note and read it.
"The pictures." Jesse said sullenly and sat
down on the couch.
Luke and Daisy turned to face him, they couldn't believe that Bo had
burned all the pictures.
"All those memories destroyed. Burned into
ash." Jesse said, his voice was filled with a deep sadness.
"Memories are more then just pictures. Memories
are in the heart and can't be destroyed." Luke said, in attempt to cheer
up his uncle.
Jesse smiled. "You are right Luke."
"I can't believe that Bo could do this." Daisy
said.
"He wouldn't normally, but Boss Hogg brainwashed
him really good. Bo is an entirely different person." Luke said.
"We have to get him to see the truth, that
he is a Duke." Daisy said.
"I know, but he is so hateful I really don't
even know how to reach him. He has a lot more hate for us this time then
he did last time he had amnesia and Boss tricked him into thinking he was
a Hogg." Luke said.
"We have to think of something before this
to goes too far." Jesse said.
"How far do you think Bo would go with this?"
Daisy asked.
An question which nobody really wanted to answer, because they weren't
sure. Bo's actions showed that he would take this quite far. They all knew
that Bo had quite a temper and figured that this had made it even worse.
"I don't know and I would rather not find
out." Luke said.
At the Hogg home Bo sat down on the couch.
Boss came into the room from the kitchen where he was cooking himself a
"little" snack.
"Where have you been sonny?" Boss asked.
"Just out teaching them Dukes a lesson for
messing with us. Starting a plan to drive them out of Hazzard for good."
Bo said.
"Oh, what did you do?" Boss asked, with a
large smile on his face.
Bo told him about his run in with the Dukes and about going to their
farm after and leaving them a little something to think about. Bo didn't
notice Boss's smile falter slightly. He couldn't believe that Bo was being
so cold hearted.
"What do you plan on doing next?" Boss asked.
Bo shrugged. "I don't I still haven't decide yet, daddy. Maybe I'll
try to get that friend of theirs out of town."
"Oh. I am sure glad that you are on my side,
I'd hate to have you angry at me." Boss said and headed back into the kitchen
to finish preparing his snack.
A while later Bo came up with an idea to get
Cooter to leave Hazzard. He got up from the couch and went out to his car.
He pulled up in front of the garage. He smiled, seeing that nobody was
there, Cooter was out on a call. He walked up to the garage doors, which
were locked with a small pad lock. He took a crowbar out of the trunk of
his car, and broke the lock off. He opened the door just enough to get
inside, and closed the door behind himself. He looked around the garage,
his eyes held a look of malicious mayhem. He still had the crowbar in his
hand and he began to walk around the garage smashing everything that could
be smashed, dumping the tools all over the floor. After a few minutes he
stopped and stood by the doors, looking over his handy work He smiled,
the garage was a mess. Everything had been smashed, dumped, or broken.
He left quietly getting back into his car and driving away.
Cooter came back to his garage about twenty
minutes later. He noticed the lock had been broken off the doors and opened
the door to the garage slowly. His heart sank as he saw everything had
been damaged or destroyed. He became angry wondering who had broken into
his garage and trashed everything. He tried to contact Rosco but couldn't
reach him. He went to the police station but there was nobody there. He
went back to his garage and cleaned everything up. He went over to the
Dukes.
He told them about what someone had done to his garage. They
figured it to be Bo, after what he had done there.
"I can't believe that Bo would do such a thing."
Cooter said.
"He is not in his right mind, Boss Hogg really
has him brainwashed." Luke said.
"J.D. is starting to take this a little too
far. I am going over to his place to discuss this with him. He ain't gonna
get away with taking advantage off Bo." Jesse said.
"Just wait a minute Uncle Jesse. I don't think
that will help." Luke said.
"I am not just going to sit around here waiting
to see what Bo will do next. I am going to talk to J.D. and get Bo back."
Jesse said.
Luke sighed, he knew there was no way to talk his uncle out of this.
"Just be careful."
Jesse nodded and left the house to go talk to J.D. and try to have
Bo see the truth.
J.D. was just leaving his house when Jesse
pulled up. The two of them started to argue. Bo came back and saw them
fighting and rushed over to help his daddy.
"Bo can't you see that J.D. is lying to you,
you are a Duke." Jesse said.
"You are the only one here that is lying you
old goat." Bo said.
"That is not true Bo, you have to know in
your heart that ain't true." Jesse said, and tried to put a hand on Bo's
shoulder.
Bo shoved Jesse's hand away before he could. "Save your lies. I know
the truth and can not be sueded by your lies. I am a HOGG not a DUKE."
Boss smiled. "Why don't you get off my property now before I have you
run in for trespassing."
Jesse glared coldly at J.D. but decided that there was nothing more
he could do or say right now to get Bo back. He walked back towards his
truck, he could feel Bo's cold and hateful eyes staring at his back.
Jesse got into the truck, just as he was about to start the engine Bo bent
down and picked up a large stone. As the engine turned over Bo threw the
stone at the truck with all his strength, just barely missing the window.
The stone hit the side of the truck with a loud thunk, and fell to the
ground. The door of the truck was dented where the stone had hit. Jesse
looked out the window, and at Bo, with a shocked expression. He watched
as Bo bent down to pick up another stone. Jesse decided to get out of there
before the next stone possible hit the window. He started to drive away,
hearing the stone slam into the back end of the pickup truck. Boss looked
at Bo, not believing his downright meanness.
"Now sonny that wasn't really called for."
Boss said.
"Yeah it was. There is only way to drive low
down varmints like them Dukes out of town and it ain't trough just small
little subtle hints." Bo said.
"Now Bo there is no need to resort to violence."
Boss said.
Bo didn't say anything and walked back to his car and drove off. As
Boss watched Bo drive off he realised that he couldn't control him, and
that Bo was showing a truly dark side. Darker then he thought any Duke
was capable off, darker then he even cared to see in anyone. He started
to fear how much violence Bo would use to drive the Dukes from town, he
hoped he wouldn't go as far as to really hurt anyone.
Jesse went back to the farm, he walked inside
and joined Luke, Daisy and Cooter in the front room.
"Any luck?" Luke asked.
Jesse shook his head and sat on one of the chairs. "Far from it. I
have never seen Bo be so full of anger and hate. He is almost worse then
any Hogg."
"What happened?" Daisy asked.
Jesse took a deep breath and slowly released it as he told them all
about what had happened when in confronted J.D. and Bo had come along.
Nobody knew what to say. About an hour later Cooter left. The Dukes ate
a small dinner everyone was too worried about Bo to eat much. They all
went to bed early that night. Luke laid awake until almost three a.m. trying
to think up a plan to make Bo see the truth. He stared over at the empty
bed, starting to miss Bo even more. The next morning Jesse was up early
and went out to the filed. Luke and Daisy got up a little while after and
started to prepare breakfast. Jesse came back in his face was pale and
his eyes were sad. He sat down quietly at the table.
"What is wrong?" Daisy asked concernedly.
"All the crops have been destroyed." Jesse
said.
"What?" How?" Luke asked.
"Someone drove a car through the filed. Tore
it up quite bad, killing all the crops. Everything has been lost." Jesse
said.
"Yeah and guess who did." Luke commented rhetorically.
"I can't believe Bo would go that far. He must have done it yesterday we
just haven't been out that way to see the damage."
"And we can't report this to Rosco, he won't
do anything." Daisy said. "What are we going to do?"
Jesse shook his head. "I don't know. All we can do is pray that things
don't get any worse."
Luke nodded in agreement though he knew that things probably would
get a lot worse before, if ever, they got better.
Later that day Cooter was out getting some
tractor parts and decided to stop at the Boar's Nest for a beer or two.
He parked his car on the far side of the parking lot and went inside. Bo
was just pulling away from the Boar's Nest as Cooter walked in. He suddenly
had an idea of how to get Cooter out of Hazzard for good. He figured the
only way to get rid of the Dukes and their friend was the same way that
you get rid of any vermin, extermination. He figured that this time he
would just be a warning to open their eyes to see that if they didn't leave
Hazzard willing that they'd be leaving in a pine box. Bo sat hid up in
the woods, watching for Cooter to come back out. Bo sat on the hood of
his car, his bow and arrows lay on the hood next to him. About thirty minutes
later Cooter came out of the Boar's Nest and walked towards his truck.
Bo smiled, glad there was no other car parked between him and Cooter's
truck. He readied a dynamite arrow and aimed it at the gas tank of Cooter's
truck. He waited until Cooter was just a few feet away from his truck
and let the arrow go. The arrow struck the gas tank causing the truck to
explode into a ball of flames. The force of the explosion sent Cooter flying
three feet backwards through the air. He would've flew further but the
distance was shortened when he struck another car. His head struck the
car and darkness consumed his mind, he slumped to the ground unconscious.
There was a few other people in the Boar's Nest and they rushed outside
when they heard the explosion. Bo watched for a moment and left when he
heard sirens fill the air.
Cooter was loaded into the back of the ambulance
and rushed to the hospital. The hospital contacted his family and they
called the Dukes since they knew how good of friends of Cooter's they were.
Nobody knew that Bo had been the cause of the accident. The Dukes
spent most the rest of that day visiting at the hospital, waiting for Cooter
to wake up. They left and his family promised to call them when he woke
up. They drove back to Hazzard.
"You don't think Bo could actually do something
like that, do you?" Daisy asked.
"I don't know Daisy." Luke said.
They drove the rest of the way home in silence. All hoping that Bo
wasn't responsible for hurting Cooter. The wreckage had been checked over
but the cause of the explosion couldn't be found, and there was no suspects.
The Dukes were back in Hazzard and driving
along the back roads towards the farm. A car suddenly pulled from a sideroad
and started to tailgate the General. Luke glanced into the rearview mirror
and sighed.
"It's Bo." Luke said.
Jesse and Daisy both glanced out the back window as though to confirm
for their selves that it was Bo. Bo slammed his car into the back ended
of the General. Luke sped up slightly to try avoid being hit again. They
were jarred again when Bo slammed into the backended again, harder this
time. Bo pulled up alongside the General. The two cars running neck and
neck. Bo turned and smiled at Luke. Though there was no kindness in his
smile, only evil and hate. Then with no warning Bo slammed the car into
the side of the General. Luke almost lost control of the car, the wheels
spinning as they hit the edge of the road. Bo pulled his car over again,
slamming into the front of the General. This time Luke lost control of
the car, and they spun off the road slamming to a stop against a tree.
Bo didn't even stop to see what damage he had caused, he just laughed and
sped off down the road.
"Is everyone okay?" Luke asked.
"Yeah." Daisy said.
"I am just fine." Jesse said.
Luke tried to restart the General, and it wouldn't start. Luke tried
it again and the engine roared to life. He pulled back on to the road and
continued back to the farm.
That night passed just like the one before
had. They ate dinner in silence, what little they actually ate. After dinner
the three of them sat around the fireplace. They were all worried
about Cooter, praying that he would be okay. They wanted to think that
Bo had nothing to do with what happened to him, but deep down they knew
he was in some way responsible. They kept trying to think up a plan to
get Bo back, make him see the truth. They were all scared at how cold hearted
Bo had become, so unlike himself. Luke sat awake until the early hours
of the morning, trying to think of how to help Bo and get back the person
that they all knew and loved. Though he couldn't think of anything, he
eventually fell asleep sitting on the chair.
A little while later Bo went to the Duke farm.
He parked a short distance from the house just so the sound of the engine
didn't wake them up. He was carrying a small burlap sack, and walked over
to Daisy's jeep. He dumped the contents of the bag onto the front seat,
a dead rat that had been killed in a trap at the Boar's Nest. He walked
over to the window of the house, and looked inside. In the pale moonlight
he could see the silhouette of someone sleeping on a chair. He frowned
and sighed, deciding that he just leave too many "messages" for the Dukes
because the person might hear him outside and catch him. He figured that
the person sleeping on the chair was Luke Duke. He decided not to push
his luck and just leave the rat for now, he figured he'd have more chances
tomorrow to try to drive them Dukes out of Hazzard for good. He walked
back to his car and drove off into the night.
The next morning Daisy went outside to get
into her jeep, to go into town to get some supplies. She screamed when
she saw the dead rat laying on the seat. Luke rushed out to see why Daisy
had screamed, Jesse was following close behind him.
"What's wrong?" Luke asked.
Daisy said nothing and just pointed to something that was on the seat
of her jeep. Luke got closer and saw what was there, a dead rat. Jesse
took an old bag and disposed of the dead rat.
"Why don't we all go in town to get what we
need?" Luke asked Daisy.
Daisy just nodded, and followed Luke over to the pickup truck. Jesse
got in a drove them all into town. Nobody said anything, they all knew
that Bo had been at the farm last night and left the rat. Jesse started
to wonder if maybe Luke should've stayed at the farm, he began to have
a gut feeling that Bo would try something with them all being gone.
Bo saw the Dukes drive in town and headed
out to the farm. He got out of the car and looked at the General Lee, and
smiled. He reached into the backseat of the car and took out a chainsaw.
He pulled the chain and the engine roared to life, he walked towards the
General Lee, an evil glimmer in his eyes. It was about thirty minutes later
when the Dukes were coming up the driveway to the farm. They could all
hear the sound of a chainsaw close by, and started to worry about what
Bo could be doing. As they approached the farm they could see Bo. Jesse
pulled further into the yard, and what they saw made Luke's heart sink.
Luke jumped out of the truck before Jesse even stopped it.
"Just what do you think you are doing?" Luke
asked.
Bo didn't stop until he finished the task at hand, then turned to face
Luke.
"Simple. This car is half yours and half mine.
So I just came to collect my half." Bo said, in a mock innocent tone. "Which
"half" do you want?"
Luke couldn't find his voice to even reply to the question he could
only stare at the General which Bo had just sawed in two. Luke finally
found his voice.
"How could you?" Luke asked, looking at Bo,
his eyes full of hurt.
Bo just shrugged. "I just solved the problem off you keeping my half
of the car from me."
Jesse and Daisy stood behind Luke, staring at the wreckage. They couldn't
believe that Bo had just destroyed the General.
Bo laughed. "It is just a car. Who cares? Oh wait you do."
Bo got into his car and sped away from the farm.
Daisy put a hand on Luke's shoulder. "He was right. The General was
just a car."
Luke shook his head. "It might have just been a car but it meant a
whole lot more. I mean me and Bo built that car from the ground up . .
. in a way that car was a symbol of our friendship. I can't believe that
Bo could just destroy him like that."
Jesse stood beside Luke. "I know that you are upset. Just remember
that Bo isn't in his right mind. You can always rebuild once we get Bo
back."
"I don't know if that would be the same. That
car meant something that can never be replaced. I can't believe Bo did
this." Luke said sadly.
Luke stared at the remains of the General for a couple more moments
then went into the house and to the room that he and Bo had shared their
whole lives. He looked around the room, memories of his and Bo's friendship
surrounded him everywhere he looked, making the loss of the General hurt
even worse. He sat down on the bed, starting to feel angry towards Bo.
He started to think about get revenge on Bo for destroying the General
Lee. Luke laid down on the bed and closed his eyes, suddenly hating himself
for thinking of wanting revenge on Bo, when it wasn't his fault. He knew
that Bo had no real control of his actions and that he couldn't remember
the truth about who he was. The more he thought about the more he missed
Bo, he wanted his cousin, his best friend his brother back.
Luke spent the rest of the afternoon in the
bedroom. He refused to talk to Jesse or Daisy. The understood his pain
and figured it would be best to just leave him be. They didn't really know
what to say to him either. Bo had always been the only person to know what
to say to cheer Luke up when he was down. But of course Bo wasn't there,
in fact he was the cause of Luke's pain in a way. Jesse and Daisy just
left Luke alone for the day. He refused to even come out for dinner. Jesse
decided it was best not to force him, and that perhaps later he would eat
something. Jesse and Daisy were concerned about Cooter and worried about
Bo and Luke. Daisy didn't really want to go to work but went anyway. She
didn't tell Jesse just how scared she was to be going work alone. She didn't
want to give him anything more to worry about and thought it was best if
he stayed home with Luke. She prayed that she didn't run into Bo while
she was there alone. She had no idea what she would do if she did.
The Boar's Nest was quite busy for most that
night and all the work kept Daisy too busy to think much about what was
going on. She liked being able to have a distraction to keep her mind off
all the problems. Later that night the crowd thinned down to a few patrons
how all eventually stumbled out of the building. An hour before closing
time Daisy realised that she was alone in the Boar's Nest, and though it
never bothered her before, tonight she was scared. She had time to sit
and think about all the recent tragic events and too worry that Bo might
show up. She knew that in his current state of mind there was no telling
what he might do. She was so deep in thought that she never heard the door
open. She didn't realise that anyone was there till she heard the door
being locked. She couldn't see who was there from the angle that she was
sitting. She slowly stood up and tried to get a better look at who was
there. Then Bo stepped into the room. He looked at her with cold hard eyes
for a moment.
"Bo . . . what do you want?" Daisy asked,
trying to hide the fear in voice.
"I want all you Dukes out of Hazzard for good."
Bo said, as he walked towards her.
Daisy didn't know what to say she just stared at Bo. She could hardly
believe that she was scared of her little cousin, but she was. She took
a couple steps backwards, bumping against the bar. Bo continued to walk
towards her. He could see her fear and smiled darkly at her.
"Just stay away from me." Daisy said.
Bo shook his head. "Not a chance."
Daisy looked around the room looking for a way to get away from Bo.
She decided to try to make a run for the kitchen to get out the back door.
She was part way there when Bo grabbed her from behind. He turned her around,
by the shoulders, to face him. His face was inches from her and she could
see all the hate and evil in his eyes and started to grow even more afraid.
"Please let me go." Daisy pleaded her voice
trembling.
Bo just smiled."I don't think so. You Dukes have to learn the hard
way. It is your turn to learn your lesson for crossing me."
Daisy tried to keep from trembling but couldn't help it. She couldn't
believe what was going on, she was terrified that Bo was really going to
hurt her. She knew in his right mind Bo would never hurt her, but he wasn't
in his right mind. Bo pushed Daisy against the wall, his face was inches
from hers, his eyes cold and hard.
"Please let me go Bo." Daisy pleaded her voice
trembling with fear.
"That ain't going to happen. Y'all never should've
crossed me. You should've left Hazzard while you still could. You should've
heeded my warning and left, but no you all have to learn the hard way."
Bo said.
Daisy struggled to try to get away, which only caused Bo to tighten
his hold on her. Keeping her pinned against the wall Bo took out his pocket
knife. Daisy stared at the blade of the knife, which Bo held in front of
her face. Bo held one arm just below her neck to keep her pinned against
the wall. He ran his other hand through her hand for a moment then grabbed
a handful, pulling it. Daisy flinched and was frozen in fear as Bo raised
the knife. Bo used the knife the cut out a large handful of Daisy's hair.
Daisy couldn't help but trembling fearing the next cut would be to draw
blood. She tried to plead with him to stop but couldn't find her voice.
He brought his face up to the side of hers, his lips almost touching her
ear.
"Are you afraid to die?" Bo whispered, coldly,
into her ear.
"Please . . . please don't Bo." Daisy whimpered
softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Bo stared deeply into her eyes, and she couldn't see any of her cousin
in those eyes. She found it was like staring into the eyes of stranger.
There was no goodness or love in his only evil and hate. She felt the coldness
of the blade running against her neck softly. Bo wasn't applying enough
pressure to actually cut her throat, just enough to scare her, all the
while he stared at her with cold hateful eyes.
Rosco had came to the Boar's Nest and was
puzzled when he found the doors locked. He went around to the door that
led into Boss's office and found it was unlocked. He figured that Daisy
was still there, as her jeep was parked out front. He walked into the bar,
and saw Bo had Daisy pinned against the wall, with a knife to her throat.
"Freeze it right there Bo." Rosco said.
Bo turned to face Rosco, not even loosening his grip on Daisy.
"Why?" She is a Duke she needs to be taught
a lesson and be driven from Hazzard for good." Bo said.
"Not that way. Violence is not the way to
do it." Rosco said.
"They are varmints and the only way to get
rid of them is through extermination." Bo said, his voice was filled with
anger and hate.
Rosco shook his head. "Let her go Bo."
Bo released his hold on Daisy. She slid to the ground and sat against
the wall, trying to stop shaking, she watched Bo with large scared eyes.
Bo walked over to Rosco and stood a few inches in front of him.
"How dare you take their side. You are a traitor.
Perhaps you should be driven from Hazzard right alongside the Dukes." Bo
said.
Rosco couldn't think of what to say. He could see the hate and the
darkness that filled Bo's eyes and could actually feel fear start to fill
his body. After seeing him attacking Daisy like that Rosco figured Bo would
have no qualms about attacking or maybe even killing him to. Bo turned
and left. He slammed the door as he left. Rosco went over to where Daisy
sat on the floor and helped her to her feet.
"Are you okay?" Rosco asked, there was genuine
concern in his voice.
Daisy nodded not really trusting her voice. Tears streaked her cheeks,
she took a deep breath and tried to stop the tears.
"Do you want me to drive you home?" Rosco
asked.
"No. I can manage." Daisy said, her voice
sounded small and weak.
"Are you sure?" Rosco asked.
"Yeah. He didn't get a chance to really hurt
me." Daisy said. "Thanks for stopping him."
Rosco smiled. "No problem. It is part of my job."
Daisy went out and got into her jeep and drove home, wondering how
to tell Jesse and Luke that Bo had attacked her at the Boar's Nest.
Daisy walked inside the house. Jesse and Luke
were both sitting in the front room.
"Your home early." Luke said and then noticed
how upset Daisy looked. "What's wrong?"
"Bo . . . he . . . he . . ." Daisy said and
broke down and cried again.
Jesse was the first over to her, and hugged her comfortingly. Daisy
leaned against her uncle being lost in his comforting and protective hold.
She cried until she had no tears left to cry. All the while Jesse softly
soothed and Luke stood watching and worrying. Finally she stopped crying
and stepped away from Jesse.
"Now tell us what happened?" Jesse said.
Both Jesse and Luke noticed that a large portion of her hair had been
cut. Daisy took a deep breath and told them, her voice was almost constantly
shaking, and she almost broke down and cried a couple times.
"I can't believe that Bo would do such a thing."
Jesse said.
"Good thing Rosco came along when he did."
Luke said.
"I am glad he listened to him. He threatened
Rosco after." Daisy said.
"This is starting to get out of hand. Perhaps
we should leave Hazzard for a few days." Jesse said.
"I think you two should leave. I'll stay to
watch the farm, to be sure Bo don't try something." Luke said.
"If we leave he'll have no reason to do anything."
Jesse said.
"I guess but to when Bo gets his memory back
he'll probably forget all that happened and be quite lost if we are all
gone. He needs to have someone here." Luke said.
Jesse nodded knowing that Luke was right. If they all were gone when
Bo got his memory back he'd have a hard time not knowing where they went
or anything that had happened.
"Okay. Daisy and I will leave first thing
in the morning. You be careful when you are alone here. Remember hat right
now Bo is not the person we have known him to be his whole life." Jesse
said.
Luke nodded. "I know that."
"Let's try to get some sleep." Jesse said.
Everyone went off to bed, though nobody would get much sleep that night.
It was a long restless night at the Duke farm.
Rosco had gone to tell Boss what Bo had done
to Daisy at the Boar's Nest. He was just finishing telling him when Bo
walked into the house. He glared coldly at Rosco.
"Just what did you think you were doing tonight?
I don't cotton to violence. It is not needed." Boss said.
"It is the only way to get them Dukes to learn."
Bo said.
"There is no need to be so violent." Boss
said.
Bo laughed, his laughter cold and dark. "What? Can't stand to see a
little blood. You said yourself they are no good varmints. The only way
to take care of them seems to be extermination since they don't heed the
little warnings."
Boss gulped realising he couldn't control Bo, and that Bo was filled
with anger and hate.
"I don't want any violence in Hazzard County."
Boss said.
"To late for that. I ain't about to stop trying
to get the Dukes out of Hazzard, this is too much fun." Bo said.
"You listen to your daddy or I'll . . ." Rosco
started to say.
"You'll what?" Bo asked.
"I'll cuff ya and stuff ya." Rosco said.
Bo laughed. "Like to see you try. I could take you easy."
Rosco backed off afraid of just what Bo could do. Boss could hear the
evil in Bo's voice and he became frightened. He thought Bo was actually
evil. That Bo was not just thinking he was a Hogg and going against his
family, he was evil. It was as though a dark side had emerged and his good
side was suppressed. Boss couldn't think of what to say.
"I am out of here. If you can't stand my methods
of getting rid of the Dukes perhaps it means you want them in Hazzard too
much, so perhaps y'all should leave Hazzard to." Bo said and stormed out
f the house.
The next morning Daisy and Jesse packed a
couple bags and prepared to leave.
"You be careful." Jesse said.
"Yes sir." Luke said.
Daisy gave Luke a quick hug. "You look out for Bo. And please help
him remember who he is, bring him back safe."
"I will." Luke said.
Daisy got into the truck. Jesse gave his oldest nephew a hug goodbye
and got into the truck. Luke stood watching as the old white pickup truck
drove out of site. He sighed and went back inside the house. Luke sat down
on the couch, wondering if he should try finding Bo or let Bo come to him.
He thought it would be only a matter of time before Bo would show up at
the farm. He wondered just what he would do when he finally did meet up
with him. He didn't want to hurt Bo, but he knew Bo would have no qualms
about hurting or even killing him. Bo wasn't the person he knew his little
cousin to be, he more like an evil stranger that just looked like Bo. Luke
thought about a saying about good and evil being in everyone. He figured
that when Bo hit his head it suppressed the good and his evil side came
forth, and that the only way he could relate to the evil was to think he
was a Hogg. The lack of sleep from the night before started to catch him
to him, and soon Luke fell into a deep sleep.
Bo stopped in by the Dukes barn. He looked
towards the house, and dark sinister smile on his lips. He had finally
figured out the best way to get the Dukes out of Hazzard for good, burn
their house to the ground. He opened the trunk and took out a large can
of gasoline. He set it on the ground and looked at the box of dynamite.
He figured that would help make sure the rickety old house really burned
down. He took out several sticks of dynamite, and wrapped them together
with some duct tape. He careful wound the fuses together. He set the bundle
of dynamite on the ground and shut the trunk. He decided to make sure he
had the lighter in his pockets. He checked all of them and realised he
left it in the car. He walked back to the car and popped the glove box,
he took out the silver lighter and slid it into his pocket. He picked up
the gas can and the bundle of dynamite and walked towards the house.
Luke was in such a sound sleep that he never
heard Bo come into the house. Bo saw Luke sleeping on the couch and thought
about leaving and coming back later. He decided thought that since Luke
hadn't woke up when he came in that he was a very sound sleeper. Bo moved
quietly through the house, to check all the rooms to be sure everyone else
was gone. He smiled seeing that Luke was indeed the only one home. The
last room he looked in was what was his and Luke's bedroom. As he looked
around the room something almost tried to awaken in the back of his mind,
as though trying to tell him something. However he ignored it and went
about doing what he came to. He took the cap off the can of gasoline and
splashed it all over down the hallway and into the rooms. Leaving a trail
of it into the front room and kitchen. Luke thought he heard something
and woke up, immediately smelling the fumes of the gasoline. He sat straight
up on the couch and looked around. Bo was standing a few feet from the
couch holding a bundle of dynamite. He smiled coldly at Luke.
"I finally figure out how to get you Dukes
to leave Hazzard for good, burn down your house." Bo said.
Luke stood up and took a step towards Bo. "You can't do that. This
is your home to Bo. You have to remember who you are."
"Wold you just stop it with that lie. I am
sick of you lies. You think that you are so much better when all you are
is a low down varmint." Bo said.
"That is not true Bo." Luke said. "Look around
you Bo. This is your home to. Your grew up here. You have never lived anywheres
else. You are a Duke."
Bo glared at Luke. "Don't you ever shut up with that stupid lie. I
ain't going to fall for your trick. You might have fooled me once into
thinking you were a friend but NEVER again."
"Bo, Boss Hogg lied to you. You are not a
Hogg you are a Duke. You are Bo Duke. Just try to remember." Luke said.
"Shut up Duke." Bo said and lunged at Luke.
Bo swung to hit Luke, but Luke moved quicker grabbing Bo's arm and
twisting it slightly behind his back, though not hard enough to break it.
"Look around Bo, this is your home. You are
a Duke." Luke said.
"Get your hands off of me." Bo said.
"No. Not until you listen to what I am telling
you." Luke said.
Bo struggled managing to break from Luke's hold. "I am not listening
to your lies."
"It is not lies it is the truth." Luke said.
"Look around you this is the truth this is your home. Look at the notches
on that doorway where Uncle Jesse marked our height as we grew. Just actually
stop and see what is around you, stop with being so angry and open your
eyes to the truth. Look around you every corner holds the truth."
Bo glared coldly at him. "So what if it is?"
"What?" Luke asked.
"So what if I am a Duke. I don't care. I would
rather not be a part of your family. I'd rather be my own person." Bo said.
Luke looked at Bo with a shocked expression not able to believe Bo's
words. "You'd willing choose to be evil even if you knew the truth?"
Bo nodded. "Yeah it is a lot more fun."
Luke didn't know what say, he reminded himself that Bo wasn't in his
right mind. He knew Bo better then anyone and he knew that Bo could never
be so cold and hateful. Bo lunged at Luke with a murderous look apparent
in his eyes. Bo had the upper hand in the fight at first.
"I am going to finish you off just like I
should've with Cooter and Daisy. Just like I sawed that dumb old car in
half." Bo said.
Luke glared at him, his anger rising and started to feel hatred towards
him.
"After I kill you and burn this house down
I'll go take care of Jesse and Daisy." Bo said.
Luke couldn't contain his anger any longer, he felt hatred towards
the cousin he had always loved like a brother. He punched Bo hard in the
stomach and Bo pulled away from him and sat gasping to catch his breath.
Luke glared hateful at his cousin unable to suppress his anger. Luke kicked
Bo in the ribs, and Bo fell to the ground, clenching his ribs tightly.
As Bo fell he lost his hold on the bundle of dynamite and it flew across
the room in what seemed like slow motion. Luke watched horrified, unable
to stop it as it went into the fire that burned in the fireplace. Luke
cursed under his breath the second before it exploded. The force of the
explosion sent the both sailing across the room. Luke sat up and coughed
slightly. Thick black smoke and flames started to fill the room. Luke got
to his feet and started to go towards the door, when he noticed that Bo
was laying unmoving on the ground. His anger left him as he became concerned
for his cousins life. He moved quickly over to Bo's side. He gave a sigh
of relief that Bo was still breathing. He carefully picked Bo up and carried
him outside of the house. Once they were out he set Bo down on the ground.
Bo started to wake up. He coughed to clear his lungs of the smoke and then
looked at the house, he could see the flames burning, beginning to engulf
the entire house. Bo laughed merrily and looked at Luke who was watching
the fire burn with tearful eyes.
"Guess I won." Bo
said merrily.
Luke turned to face him, he felt hurt by Bo's happiness to be seeing
their home burn to the ground, unable to stop the fire.
"All I have to do now is finish you off and
then go get the rest of your kin." Bo said.
Luke glared coldly at Bo. "You jackass."
Bo just laughed at Luke. "You should've left Hazzard while you could."
Luke lunged at Bo all his anger returning. Luke kicked his leg out
knocking Bo's legs out from under him. Bo went to sit up but before he
could Luke knocked him back to he ground. Luke dropped down by Bo and closed
a hand tightly around Bo's throat. Bo coughed as tried to breath. Luke's
hand was closed tight enough around Bo's throat to keep him from getting
much air into his lungs. Bo tried to pry Luke's fingers from his throat
but his attempts were in vain. Luke glared hatefully at Bo. He raised his
other hand and hit Bo on the side of the head. Bo flinched from the force
of the blow. Bo tried to break free from Luke's hold, but the more he struggled
the tighter Luke's grip got. Luke struck him again, and Bo could feel the
warm stickiness of blood start to streak down from his temple. Bo could
feel blackness trying to over take his mind, and as Luke hit him again
he willing allowed the darkness to consume him.
Bo slowly started to wake up, he groaned softly.
Dimly aware of someone sitting next him, he could feel their hand on his.
Bo's head was throbbing, not bothering to open his eyes he raised his free
hand to touch his forehead, positive that he wold feel the stickiness of
blood where Luke had hit him, but all he felt was a bandage, over that
spot. He groaned softly again as he felt a needle pulling at his hand as
he moved.
"C'mon Bo wake up." Luke said.
Bo recognized the voice of the person who had spoke to him. He wondered
just what Luke Duke had done to him. He slowly opened his eyes and look
hatefully at Luke. Luke was shocked to see hate in Bo's deep blue eyes.
Bo became aware that he was in a hospital.
"Just what are you doing here?" Bo asked,
anger apparent in his voice.
"What are you talking about?" Luke asked,
taken aback by Bo's question.
"You know dang well what I am talking about
Luke Duke." Bo said.
"No cousin. I don't know what the heck you
are talking about." Luke said. "Why wouldn't I be here?"
"I am not your cousin. You wouldn't be here
because you are the one responsible for my being here." Bo said.
Luke just stared at Bo, then realised that Bo must have some sort of
amnesia. "I am not responsible Bo. You were in a car accident caused by
a drunk driver. Don't you remember?"
Bo glared at Luke. "That was days ago. A lot happened since then."
Luke shook his head. "No. You have been in a comma for a week Bo."
"You are lying." Bo said, and pulled the IV
from his hand. "I don't want to listen to any more lies. It is your fault
I am here, and I will make you pay for it."
Bo tried to get out of the bed, but didn't have the strength to stand
and instead just fell to the floor. Luke knelt down by him and helped him
back on to the bed.
"Bo just calm down before you hurt yourself."
Luke said.
"What do you care?" Bo asked. "I thought you'd
be grateful for this after all I did, aren't you here to gloat?"
Luke laughed a disbelieving laugh. "Bo you are my cousin, my best friend
and are like a brother to me is why I care. I don't have any idea what
you are going on about."
"I said STOP lying." Bo said angrily.
Luke sighed. "I am not lying to you Bo."
Luke suddenly realised what was going on. While Bo was in a comma his
mind had created its own reality. It was like a dream, in that none of
what Bo thought had happened recently had happened, but yet to Bo it was
the truth. Luke put a hand on Bo's shoulder. Bo tried to pull away but
Luke held his hand firmly on him.
"Bo it was all a dream." Luke said.
Bo shook his head. "No it ain't."
"Yes it was a dream Bo. Look at me." Luke
said.
Bo refused to look at Luke. Luke gently grabbed Bo by the chin and
forced Bo to look at him.
"It was a dream Bo." Luke said. "Do you want
to tell me what it was all about?"
Bo looked at Luke, staring into Luke's eyes. Bo's eyes suddenly softened,
and he started to tremble, he closed his eyes to keep from crying.
"Luke . . ." Bo said softly.
"What is it Bo?" Luke asked.
"I am so sorry." Bo said, his voice slightly
shaking.
"You have nothing to be sorry for Bo. What
ever you think happened didn't. It was a dream. Yo have been in a comma
for a week Bo. We have all been so worried about you." Luke said, trying
to comfort his cousin, who was obviously greatly upset by something.
Bo shook his head. "No it was really, it felt to real to have just
been a dream."
Bo could keep all the tears held back and a couple slide down his cheeks.
Luke gave Bo a reassuring brotherly hug.
"It was a dream Bo. Don't worry about it."
Luke said."Do you want to talk about it?"
Bo looked at Luke. He wanted to tell Luke, but couldn't find the words,
he feared that it wasn't a dream and the he had really done all those horrible
things. He looked into Luke's eyes for any remaining anger and hate that
he expected to see, but there was none.
"I hurt everyone that I care about most in
this world." Bo said, fighting back the tears that started to fill his
eyes as he thought of all the things he had done.
"Well it was defiantly a dream, because you'd
never do that." Luke said, offering his cousin reassurance.
Bo smiled slightly at Luke, glad to have his cousin at his side. It
reminded him of when he was a child and would have bad dreams, Since they
shared a room Luke was always right there to comfort him and to talk to.
Unlike a lot of kids Bo was never afraid of there being monsters in his
room, hiding under his bed, because Luke was there. Luke would never let
any monster get him, Luke was there like the hero in a movie. Bo took a
deep breath and told Luke about what had happened. Luke sat listening intently,
Bo half expected Luke to get anger at him. But he never did. A couple
times No almost started to cry as he told Luke everything, Luke just put
a hand on his shoulder and softly reassured him that it was only a dream.
Once he finished telling the story to Luke, he expected Luke to yell at
him in anger.
"You probably hate me." Bo said, sadly.
Luke shook his head. "NO. Why would I? It was all just a dream."
Luke gave Bo another brotherly hug, which Bo returned.
"Thanks Luke." Bo said.
"For what?" Luke asked.
"For being there for me." Bo said.
Luke smiled. "You know I always have been and that I always will be."
"I know. I just want you to know I appreciate
it." Bo said.
"Just relax now okay? I'll go get a doctor."
Luke said.
"Yeah, okay." Bo said, laying back down on
the bed.
A doctor came to check Bo over, while he did Luke
called home to tell the good news. Jesse and Daisy rushed to the hospital.
They came in to Bo's room and greeted them.
Each of them giving him a big hug to show their happiness that he was awake.
Bo was still a little unsure about everything, but tried not to let it
show. Jesse and Daisy noticed his unsureness but didn't raise the subject.
After a while Bo started to fall asleep. So they left the room to allow
Bo to get some sleep.
"What is wrong with Bo he seemed upset about
something?" Daisy asked.
Luke told them all about the dream Bo had.
"That is so awful. Poor Bo. That was some
bad nightmare." Daisy said.
"It was comma induced so to his mind it seemed
like reality. That is why it was so hard on him. He knows it was just a
dream, but he is still a little uneasy. That will go away in no time though."
Luke said.
Daisy smiled. "Good."
Jesse and Luke both nodded in agreement.
"The doctor said he just wants to keep Bo
in here over night for observations, in case of ill effects from the comma,
and by tomorrow he can go home." Jesse said.
"That's great." Luke and Daisy said at the
same time.
Later the Dukes went back into Bo's room and
visited with him until around eight that night. Jesse and Daisy left first,
then Luke went to go.
"Luke can I ask you something?" Bo asked.
"Yeah what is it?" Luke asked.
"Can you stay with me tonight?" Bo asked.
"I really don't want to be alone."
Luke nodded. "Yeah I can stay."
Bo smiled. "Thanks Luke."
Luke returned the smile and sat back down on the chair next to the
bed. They talked for a couple hours, before Bo started yawning.
"I think you should get some sleep." Luke
said.
Bo nodded, he was getting to tired to stay awake anyway. "Just don't
leave after I go to sleep."
"Don't worry. I won't." Luke said.
"Good." Bo said. "I need you here to keep
the monster out from under the bed." he added jokingly.
Luke laughed. "Just go to sleep Bo."
"You really are more like a big brother then
a cousin to me." Bo said, his voice sleepily. He never knew if he had ever
told Luke that before.
Luke smiled. "You are more like a brother then a cousin to me too Bo.
I don't know what I'd do if I lost you."
That was something that Luke had thought of a lot over the past week,
and he could never think of the answer, he only knew one thing he couldn't
handle that happening. He watched Bo sleep for a few minutes. He realised
how hard that dream must have been on Bo, knowing to him it seemed as though
it had really happened. He was glad that Bo was back to being a Duke, and
that Bo Hogg went away with the dream. Soon Luke fell asleep as well. Bo's
dreams were more pleasant this time filled with memories of the past, with
a loving family, and just plain being Bo Duke. He was glad to be Bo Duke
and not Bo Hogg. By the next morning the dream had faded as all dreams
do and over time Bo didn't remember ever having the dream, and nobody ever
brought it up. All things returned to what passes for normal in Hazzard
County.
