Forgive and Forget

Bo sat down at one of the empty tables in the Moon& Tree, bar&grill. There wasn't very many people left in the there, just the drunks that were basically passed out at the table where they sat. The air was filled with pungent aroma of beer and smoke. Bo looked down at his beer, thinking about recent events. He was running low on money now. He was doing gigs in bars whenever he could but those jobs where few and far between. He had a gig tonight, at Moon&Tree bar and grill, and made a $100 dollars he needed $90 of it to pay this months rent. He was playing again tomorrow night for another $100. He was signing a mix of songs by other artists and songs that he had wrote himself. If all went well this job could become a permeant job.  After tomorrow he would have $200, it would be the most money he had the whole time that he had been in Atlanta. He was struggling just to make ends meet. Most weeks he could hardly even afford to eat. He saved most his money for rent. He had tried to get a job as a mechanic but there was no work, for a mechanic anywhere in Atlanta. Some months he couldn't afford to pay the hydro, water or phone bills. He was constantly getting charged the late fee. This months bills would cost $80. Which would leave him with only $30 to buy food with. He had to sell his car for money, so had to rely on the subway to get everywhere.
Bo left Hazzard about six months ago. After having a major fight with Luke. It was about Katrina, a girl that Luke had been dating. Luke was quite serious about her. Bo never really liked her, just something about her made him distrust her. However, Bo never said anything to anyone about it. Then she broke up with Luke, and everyone all thought it was Bo's fault. Bo didn't really understand why they all blamed him. They said that he was going out with Katrina behind Luke's back. Bo said that it wasn't true but nobody listened him. Even uncle Jesse and Daisy wouldn't believe Bo. The whole town thought that Bo was going with Katrina. Luke was extremely angry at Bo for taking Katrina away. The more Bo tried to deny it the more angry Luke got. Everyone just kept telling Bo to stop being so immature and admit to it. It hurt Bo that they would think such a thing about him. There was no way he'd ever do something like that, even if he didn't dislike Katrina so much. He hated fighting with Luke and just wished that someone would believe him. Their distrust of him hurt him very deeply. He tried to ignore it but couldn't, he felt the only answer to the problem was to leave Hazzard forever. Then one night when everyone else was at the Boar's Nest, Bo packed his bags
He left a note on the kitchen table before leaving:

To whom it may concern,

Since it would take quite some time before any of you notice that I am no longer here, I am leaving a note to tell you that I never shall be bothering any of you ever again, as I am leaving here for good. Not that y'all really care.

Bye now,
Bo

Bo hitched a ride to Capitol City, where he bought a used car. Then he drove to Atlanta.
Bo got up from the table and walked outside and headed to the subway and went back to his apartment. The apartment was in very poor run down condition and was in a very bad neighbourhood, but it was the only place that he could afford.
Later that night he lie awake listening to the wail of sirens outside, and the neighbours a couple doors down arguing as they did every night. Outside the sound of gun  fire echoed in the night air. Bo just rolled over and looked at the clock it read 3:45.
The next morning the Dukes were all sitting around the kitchen table no one was talking. Luke just sat pushing the food around on his plate. He wished he had never fought with Bo, he regretted everything he had said to Bo. He wished that he had listened to Bo's side of the story, instead of just what Katrina had said. He realized he had never even given Bo a chance to tell his side and blamed himself for Bo leaving. Daisy and Jesse were sad that they hadn't listened at all to Bo's side of the story either and that they drove him to a point were he felt the only answer was to leave the farm forever.
Luke started to think back to the last time he was with Katrina. He was so in love with her. They sat at a table in the Boar's Nest.
     "Luke . . ." she said.
     "Yeah, what?" Luke questioned.
"I can't see you anymore." Katrina said flatly.
     "What? Why?" Luke asked.
"Because I don't share the same feelings that you do for me. I am in love with someone else. Someone who is just so perfect and I feel that he loves me more then you do." Katrina said.
"Who are you talking about?" Luke asked feeling an instant hate for who ever it was that stole Katrina's love away from him.
"Your cousin, Bo." Katrina said in a dreamy tone.
     "WHAT!?" Luke said.
"It is Bo that I am in love with and he loves me just as much as I love him. We are just so perfect for each other." she replied, then stood up from the table. "I can't deny my feelings for him any longer, I can't be with you cause I don't love you."
She walked off leaving Luke just sitting there stunned and angry. He was angry that Bo would go behind his back like that and steal Katrina from him, when Bo knew how much he loved her.
Luke left the Boar's Nest to find Bo and "discuss" the situation. Bo was working on the tractor when Luke found him.
"Bo we have to talk." Luke said in an angry tone.
Bo looked at Luke puzzled wondering why Luke was so angry. "About what?"
     "Katrina." Luke replied flatly.
     "What about her?" Bo asked.
"Did you think that I would never out that you were going out with her behind my back, when you knew how I felt about her." Luke said.
"What are you talking about, that is not true."
"Stop lying Katrina told me everything." Luke said.
"It is not true I don't even like Katrina." Bo said.
     "Yeah right." Luke replied.
"Luke, I have never lied to you and I never would. I am telling you the truth there is nothing between me and Katrina. I wouldn't go out with the same person that you were."
"Just shut up, I don't want to hear your lies."
Luke came out of the flashback. "Bo wasn't lying. Katrina made all that up, Bo was telling the truth. I allowed Katrina to destroy my friendship with Bo. I  allowed her lies to turn me against him. It is all my fault that he left home." Luke thought sadly.
     "Luke?" Jesse said.
"What?" Luke asked looking up at Jesse.
"I asked if you would go to Atlanta today to pick up some tractor parts." Jesse said.
     "Oh yeah, sure." Luke replied.
"I'll go with ya." Daisy said.
As they drove to Atlanta Daisy started to think back to an event that occurred just before Bo had left Hazzard.
She was working at the Boar's Nest and Katrina was talking about her and Bo's feelings for each other.
"That ain't true. Bo would never go out with you, because you were going out with Luke." Daisy said.
"Well he is and we are very in love." Katrina said defensively.
"I don't believe that Bo would do something like that." Daisy said.
"Well you can't control who you fall in love with and for us it was really love at first sight. We are connected at the heart."
Daisy thought she sounded so serious and that she did truly believe what was saying so she herself started to believe that Bo was going out with Katrina.
Luke and Daisy reached to Atlanta and picked up the tractor parts that were needed to fix the tractor. Then they decided to do something shopping. They called Jesse to tell him that they'd be home later that day. As they were shopping Daisy thought that she saw someone who looked like Bo.
"Hey Luke, don't that person look like Bo?" Daisy asked.
     "What person?"
"Over there . . ." Daisy said then noticed the person was gone. "He ain't there now."
"Maybe you were just seeing things." Luke said.
"Yeah I guess . . . I was just so sure that it was Bo." Daisy said, her voice sounded sad.
Luke didn't say anything he wished as much as she did that it really was Bo and that after having looked for him for the past six months that they had finally found him.
It was later that day and Luke and Daisy stopped at a bar and grill called Moon&Tree, there was live entrainment there the sign said: Bo Bryant, preforming live, two days only, last day today. Bo had dropped the Duke family name and had taken a new name. He no longer wanted use the family name at all. He used the name Bo Bryant for everything, even for renting his apartment. He was going to legally change it when he had enough money to afford changing his name.
Luke and Daisy went in and sat at one of the tables and were trying to decide what to get as they listened to the music. It was a song that was written by Blue Rodeo "Dragging On"

"You left a hole in me
And the rain comes pouring in
Sometimes I'm swept away
All of our memories
Are burned into my skin
They never fade
They never fade."
Daisy looked up at the person sing, and a smile spread across her face. "Luke . . . It's Bo." she said happily.
Luke looked up and saw that the person singing was Bo. "I don't believe this . "
"We finally found Bo." Daisy said. "We have to talk to him once he is done singing."
"Why is he using another name though? I mean he dropped the family name. The sign said Bo Bryant." Luke said.
"I don't know. It's probably nothing, it more then likely just a stage name. I am sure that it is nothing." Daisy said, although there was a hint of doubt in her voice. "All that matters is we found Bo."
After a couple more songs Bo was finished, the set his next set wasn't till the night crowd starting at 10 p.m. He walked off the stage. Luke and Daisy rushed over to where he was.
     "Bo!" Daisy said.
Bo acted like he didn't even hear her call his name, he just turned the other way, ignoring her.
"Bo . . ." Luke said walking over to Bo and putting a hand on his shoulder.
Bo turned around and looked at them. "Oh it's you two. What do you want?" he questioned coldly.
"We want to talk to you." Daisy said.
"Well I don't want to talk to either of you. I think everything that needed said was said back in Hazzard six months ago." Bo said flatly.
"That is not entirely true." Luke said.
"I don't care what either of you think is true and what is not true. And I don't want to talk or be anywhere near either of you. So why don't you two just stay out of my life."
"Bo . . ." Daisy said, unable to find the words, she was too shocked by the coldness of his words.
"Bo we have to just sit down and talk about this." Luke said.
"I don't have to do anything. What is so hard for you to understand that I don't want any of you in my life. I hate all of you and I don't want anything to do with any of you. That is why I dropped the family name and took a new name, I want nothing to do with any of you and don't want to be part of the Duke family." Bo said coldly then walked away from them.
Luke and Daisy followed Bo. Bo went back to his apartment. As Luke drove through the neighbourhood Daisy shuddered.
"Bo is living here. This looks like one bad neighbourhood." Daisy said looking at the run down homes, and the groups of people that looked like they were in gangs.
     "Yeah, I guess so."
"I don't like being here. It is too scary." Daisy said her voice slightly shaking.
They saw Bo going into an apartment.
"That places looks like it should've been condemned twenty years ago." Luke commented.
"Yeah . . .I can't believe this is were Bo lives. I mean this as to be like one of the worst areas in the city." Daisy said.
"I know. Look I don't think we should try to talk to him again tonight, I mean he was quite agitated as  it was." Luke said.
"Yeah but we have to talk to him." Daisy said.
"Yeah well I'll take you back to the farm and then tomorrow I'll come back and try to talk to Bo." Luke said.
     "Okay." Daisy said.
They got back to the Duke farm, Jesse was sitting in the front drinking a coffee and waiting for them to get back. He could tell right away that something was wrong.
     "What's wrong?" Jesse asked concernedly.
"We found where Bo is."Daisy said.
     "Well that's great." Jesse said.
"Not exactly, he didn't want to talk us, he said he don't want any of us in life and that
he . . . hates us. And he dropped the Duke name, he said he don't want to be part of the Duke family so he took on a new name." Daisy said sadly.
     "What?" Jesse said disbelievingly.
"Yeah he wants nothing to do with any of us. He was quite angry when we tried to talk to him." Luke said.
"So, where did you see him? where is he living? Is he okay?" Jesse asked, his voice was full of concern.
"He was singing at Moon&Tree a bar and grill he Atlanta. He seemed okay. He is living in some apartment." Luke said.
"Some apartment that is one way to put it. That place looks like it should've been condemned twenty years ago. It looks like it could collapse at any given minute and that neighbourhood is scary it has to be one of the worst areas in Atlanta." Daisy then realized why Luke hadn't said all that.
Jesse looked even more worried now. After hearing all that he started to fear for Bo's safety.
Luke could see his worry. "Don't worry, Bo can take care of himself. I mean to he has been living there for six months and nothing has happened."
"That we know of. Anything could have happened we wouldn't know." Jesse said.
Luke couldn't think of anything to say to reassure Jesse, because he couldn't reassure himself that Bo was really okay. He knew it was true, they had no way of knowing if anything had happened to Bo during those six months.
"If you know where is and all why didn't you bring him back?" Jesse asked.
"He wouldn't have came back with us." Luke said.
"So you should've drug him home." Jesse said.
"What good would that do? That would only make him madder and make matters worse. He didn't want to talk to us let alone be around us. He made it clear that he wants nothing to do with us."
"Yeah, but . . ." Jesse started to say.
"I'm gonna go back tomorrow and try to talk to him some more. Get him to sit down so we can talk this all out." Luke said.
They all went to bed. Luke figured to get up early and head back to Atlanta.
Later that night after his last performance, Bo lay awake staring at the clock, trying to ignore all sounds that surrounded me, the constant sound of sirens. He was angry that Luke and Daisy had showed up like that, and that they actually expected him to talk to them. When Bo had first left Hazzard he wasn't really angry at any of them and he didn't hate them. Then as time started to past that hurt and pain changed to anger and hate. He hated them for not trusting him and for the way they treated him. His anger was starting to change to rage. He hoped that they didn't show up again and try to interfere with his life. The way he figured was he had a new life now and just wanted to leave his old life in the past.
Luke woke up early the next morning, he wanted to get to Atlanta and talk to Bo. He was sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee when Daisy and Jesse walked into the kitchen. Nobody said anything, they all just sat quietly at the table. They were all worried about Bo. The past six months they had been worried, but now they were even more worried knowing the situation that Bo was in. He was living in a bad area of Atlanta and they feared for Bo's safety. They just wanted to forget what happened and have Bo return home. They all realized they should've listened to Bo he was telling the truth. Katrina just had illusions of something that wasn't there. She herself had feelings for Bo, but he did not share those feelings, so she invented them. They realized after Bo had left Hazzard that he was not lying about there being nothing between him and Katrina. They realized she was the one lying. They felt awful about taking her side and going against Bo like that. They regretted accusing him of such a thing and of lying, and driving him to the point where he just left, and now to the point where he hated them. Luke felt worst of all he completely blamed himself for what happened. He deeply regretted the way he treated Bo. He felt horrible seeing where Bo was now, and blamed himself for Bo's situation.
Luke stood up, from the table. "I'm gonna go now."
"Okay. Just take it easy." Jesse said.
Daisy said nothing but he could see the look in her eyes begging him to bring Bo home.
Luke went to the apartment where they saw Bo go last night, but Bo wasn't home. Luke didn't know where to go next, he decided to just drive around Atlanta around the area of Moon&Tree and where Daisy had thought she saw him before that.
Luke was about a block from Moon&Tree, when he saw Bo walking down the street. He parked the General and got out and started after Bo.
     "BO!" Luke called out.
Bo didn't acknowledge him at all. He continued to walk down the street ignoring Luke. Luke ran and went in front of Bo.
"Bo we have to talk." Luke said.
"Yeah well too bad cause I don't want to talk to you. I thought I made it quite clear that I don't any of you in my life anymore." Bo said coldly.
     "Bo . . ." Luke said placing a hand on Bo's shoulder.
Bo shoved Luke's hand away. "Get out of my face. I want you out of my life PERMANENTLY!" Bo said then crossed the street.
Luke started to cross the street after Bo. "Bo get back here, I ain't done talking to you."
A car came speeding down the road, the driver didn't see Luke in the road till too late, and hit Luke, then took off. Bo heard the squealing of trees and became worried.
     "Luke?" he said.
There was no response. Bo turned around slowly and saw Luke laying still on the road. Bo felt his anger slowly start to fade, he was worried that Luke was gonna die. He rushed over and dropped down by Luke's side. He carefully rolled Luke over on to his back and checked for a pulse, there was one but it was weak.
"Come-on Luke wake up, don't you dare die. This is not what I meant by wanting you permanently out of my life . . ."Bo said softly.
Someone else saw the accident and came over to see if they could help. Bo told them to call an ambulance. Luke was unconscious, his shirt was stained with blood.
"Luke don't die, you hear me don't you dare die. Don't you dare." Bo said.
A couple moments later the ambulance came. Bo took Luke's keys and drove the General to the hospital. He filled out the forms for Luke. The hospital called Jesse.
The phone started to ring, Jesse got up and answered it, thinking it was Luke calling home with news about Bo.
     "Hello." Jesse said.
"Hello, are you Mr. Jesse Duke?" the voice asked.
     "Yes." Jesse answered.
"Mr. Duke I am Dr. Keelor, from Atlanta General Hospital, I am calling to tell you that Luke has been in an accident."
Jesse became filled with worry. "How'd it happen?"
"He was crossing the street and was struck by a car." Dr. Keelor replied.
"Is he gonna be okay?" Jesse asked, his voice fraught with worry.
"It is too soon to tell yet."
"I'll be there in about forty-five minutes." Jesse said.
Jesse hung up the phone, and turned to look at Daisy who was standing behind him. She had heard the conversation and was worried.
"Luke was hit by a car." Jesse said.
"Is he . . ." Daisy started to ask but found herself unable to finish the sentence.
"No. They say it is too soon yet though to know how he is." Jesse asked.
They drove to Atlanta in silence, both were filled with worry about Luke, they were worried that they could lose him.
Bo sat in the waiting room for a minutes. He was blaming himself for Luke getting hurt. "If I had just talked to Luke and not crossed that street Luke wouldn't have gotten hit by that car." Bo thought to himself.
He couldn't stand being in the waiting room, watching the doctors coming and going with no word on Luke. Bo got up and left the waiting room just moments before Jesse and Daisy arrived.
Jesse went to check too see how Luke was doing he found Dr. Keelor.
     "How is Luke?" Jesse asked.
"He is still in the operating room, but his condition is stable. He should be out soon."
Jesse went to the waiting room and sat down beside Daisy and told her what Dr. Keelor had said.
Daisy and Jesse sat in the waiting room talking. Bo was coming back to the waiting room to see if there was any news on Luke's condition. Bo saw Daisy and Jesse sitting there and considered leaving. He didn't know if he could handle talking to them, much less be around them right now. Especially with Luke's current condition. He was about to turn and leave when he heard them talking about what had happened before.
"We shouldn't have distrusted Bo." Jesse said.
"Yeah but Katrina sounded so serious. I mean she was saying about their deep emotions and love for each other. She sounded like it was really true like she truly believed that her and Bo were in love." Daisy said.
"It was real and true in her mind, just not in reality. We were all too blind till too late to see that." Jesse said.
"Yeah . . . but her lie cost us so much. It cost us Bo and now it could cost us Luke as well." Daisy said.
"We were all to ready to believe her lies over what Bo was saying because she sounded serious. We didn't stop to listen how serious Bo was that it wasn't true. It really was her lie and our distrust in Bo that cost us him." Jesse said.
"Yeah, and now we'll never get him back and Luke could . . ." Daisy said tears starting to streak her cheeks.
She leaned her head against Jesse's shoulder and cried.
"It'll be okay. Luke will be okay." Jesse said.
Bo then felt bad about blaming them. He saw they did have a reason for having thought that him and Katrina had a thing. It was her disillusion that caused them to distrust him. Her lies that had cost them all so much. He felt awful for the anger he felt towards them. He completely let go off the anger and was now just filled with worry about Luke's life. He wanted to just resolve everything and go home. Bo walked further into the waiting room, and towards where Daisy and Jesse were sitting. Daisy heard someone approaching and looked up thinking it was a doctor.
     "Bo."
     "Hey." Bo said.
"You know about what happened to Luke?" Jesse asked.
Bo nodded. "Yeah, I . . .was there." Bo said. "He was trying to talk to me, but I refused to talk to him. I crossed the street and he came after me and a car was speeding down the road and hit him, then took off." Bo said. "I know I should've listened to him, I should've talk to him. If I had Luke wouldn't have got hurt. I didn't want anything to happen to Luke . . ." tears watered in his eyes but he held them back.
Jesse stood up and hugged Bo, Bo returned the hug. Then they all sat down waiting for word on Luke.
"I overheard you talking about Katrina. I think I slightly over reacted taking off like I did. I'm sorry." Bo said.
"It is us that are sorry. You did nothing wrong. We put you into a situation where you left the only answer was to leave." Jesse said.
"Yeah but . . ." Bo started to say.
"There are no but's about it. Let's just leave it all in the past." Jesse said.
     "Yes, sir." Bo said.
Bo still was blaming himself for what happened to Luke and wondered if the past could really be that easily just forgotten or how much it would change everything. He wondered if things would be the same between him and Luke. If there would be any kind of friendship or just distrust. He had forgiven them but he wasn't sure how much he could trust them. He was wasn't sure he could trust them not to do the same kind of thing all over again.
Dr. Keelor, walked over to where they were sitting. "Luke is out of the operating room. His condition is stable. However he has a concussion and has not yet woken up."
"Can we see him?" Jesse asked.
"Yes he is in room 519." Dr. Keelor answered.
They went to Luke's room. Luke was laying still on the bed, an IV was hooked up to his left arm. Daisy stifled back tears when she saw his condition. Jesse and Daisy sat down beside Luke. Bo just leaned against the wall and looked at Luke. Jesse and Daisy pleaded with Luke for fifty minutes to wake up. Then they went to get coffee, leaving Bo in the room alone with Luke. Bo sat down beside Luke.
"Hey Luke, why don't you wake up. You said you weren't down talking to me, remember? So you gotta wake up and finish." Bo said.
Bo felt tears burning his eyes but he held them back. He knew no matter what had happened Luke was still like a brother to him and he would always trust him. He couldn't stand the thought of losing him.
"Luke Duke, wake up. Wake up now. You can die. You can't. Don't you dare leave me. Please wake up Luke, please." Bo said. "I know what happened with Katrina and all. I am sorry that I didn't stop to talk to you. I know it is all my fault that you got hurt and I am so sorry. I'm sorry it is all my fault."
Luke started to wake up. He slowly opened his eyes and looked at Bo. "Hey cuz."
     "You're awake." Bo said happily.
"Yeah I had to wake up, wasn't done talking to you." Luke said jokingly.
Bo smiled and gave a small laugh.
"‘Sides that I couldn't have you blaming yourself. It ain't your fault that I got hurt. It is my own fault. I distrusted you. I was more willin' to believe Katrina's lies then to listen to what you had to say. I was too hurt when she dumped me to look at the truth I just wanted someone to blame. I allowed a girl to come between us and ruin our friendship. I was wrong I know that you wouldn't do something like that and that you would never lie to me." Luke said.
"It ain't your fault. I heard about her lies I can see how you would've possibly believed her." Bo said.
"Yeah but I should have trusted you." Luke said.
"Well yeah, but I did over react I shouldn't have left. I should've waited till the whole thing blow over and the truth to come out." Bo said.
"Right after you left I realized the truth. I looked around for you but couldn't find you anywheres." Luke said.
"There was a few times right after I left that I wanted to go back home, but I couldn't bring myself to go back. I didn't think any of y'all wanted me there. Things got bad at times I just wanted to give up at times. I hated being here and being alone."
"You should've came back. We all missed you more then anything. It was too quiet without you around."
"Yeah well, all that is in the past. We can just get on with our lives." Bo said.
     "Bo?" Luke questioned.
     "Yeah, what?"
"Do you still trust me? I mean I can't help but feel that this has totally ruined our friendship, and that it can never be what it once was." Luke said.
"I don't know. I was thinking the same thing. I don't know the answer to that question. I want things to be the way they were but I don't know if they can be, I don't know if I can completely trust you anymore." Bo said.
     "Oh." Luke said looking downcast.
"I do want to trust you. I think that we just have to give it time. We will have to wait and see." Bo said.
Jesse and Daisy came back and were filled with joy to see that Luke was awake. They could be a family again. Bo cancelled his rent on the apartment and two days later Luke was released from the hospital.
Over the next six months they hardly talked about what had happened. They all just tried to forget about it. For the first couple months Bo and Luke's friendship was strained, nothing like it had been before. But slowly it started to go back to the way it once was and they slowly became the best of friends once again. Bo felt that he could completely trust Luke. The situation with Katrina was for the most part forgotten. However some of it was remembered both Bo and Luke knew better then to allow any girl come between them like that again. They learned for the situation and carried on with their lives. Things returned to normal in Hazzard.
