Miss You in a Heartbeat
It was a beautiful day in Hazzard. The sun was shinning and the birds were singing. Jesse was out plowing the field, Daisy was working at the Boars Nest, and Bo and Luke were working on the General. Trouble though was fixing to break the peace in Hazzard County. The trouble was going to come from the guys that were on the rise over looking the Duke farm, they were watching Bo and Luke work on the General.
"Well, there is our old friend Luke Duke." Fred said, and laughed.
"Yeah don't he just look so happy, he won't be for long though." Alex said smiling "So when do we start with our plan?"
"Patience. By the time we are done with him, he'll be sorry he dared to cross our path. We'll just slowly reel him in, and then crush him." Cory said and then smiled.
"In the best possible way. He is so protective of those he cares about, its time to hit him where it hurts." Fred said.
"It's obvious our information was correct. Since we got into town, a couple days ago, he is always with that cousin of his. He is obviously closest to him." Cory said.
The boys finished working on the General, and decided to go get a beer at the Boars Nest. The baddies followed them. As Bo pulled into the Boars Nest a black sedan went past, Luke got a quick glimpse of the people in the car, and his face went pale. Bo noticed and looked concernedly at Luke, as he stopped the General in front of the Boars Nest.
"Are you okay?" Bo asked "You look like you've seen a ghost or something."
"I'm fine. It's just I thought I recognised the people in that car that went past, but it couldn't be them." Luke said.
"Why are they dead?" Bo asked.
"No it's just . . . forget it." Luke said.
     "Yeah, okay." Bo said.
Actually he felt a bit agitated at the Luke had brushed his question off, like that, but figured Luke must have some good reason for not wanting to talk about it.
Bo and Luke went into the Boars Nest and sat down at one of the tables. Daisy was just finishing waiting on a table.
"Hey Daisy could you get us something to drink over here." Bo said.
"Sure can sugar." Daisy said then went and got them a beer. "Here you go" she said as she set the beers on the table.
     "Thanks." Bo said.
Luke didn't say anything, he sat still thinking of who he thought he saw in the car.
Daisy went over by him and put an arm around him "Are you okay, honey?"she asked.
"What? . . . Oh yeah I'm fine." Luke said.
Daisy looked at Bo questioningly, and Bo just shrugged. Then Daisy went to wait on another table. The boys and drank their beers in silence. Soon as Luke finished his beer, he tossed the money for the beer on the table and walked out, Bo hadn't finished his beer yet, Daisy had noticed Luke leave and went over to talk to Bo.
"What's wrong with Luke?" Daisy asked.
"I got no idea. He thought he recognised some people in a car, and when I asked him about it he just shrugged the question off." Bo said.
"Really? I wonder who he thought they were." Daisy said.
"I don't have a clue. I'm gonna try to get him to tell me who they were." Bo said.
"Yeah well you do that, and tell me what you find out." Daisy said.
Bo paid for his beer, then went outside. Luke was sitting in the General waiting. Bo got in and started it up, and took off down the road.
"So who were those people?" Bo asked.
"I told you to forget about it." Luke said.
"Since when do I listen to you" Bo said with a laugh. "So who do you think they were anyways?" Bo asked.
"Look why don't you just mind your own business." Luke said.
     "Yes, sir." Bo said sarcastically.
Luke starred out the side window, he really didn't want to be fighting with Bo, but if those people were who he thought they were, he didn't want to drag Bo into his problem. He thought that they should still be in jail though, so it couldn't be them, he hoped. Bo glanced over at Luke, he felt bad about snapping at Luke. He could tell Luke was hiding something, and he just wanted Luke to tell him what the problem was, so he could help him deal with it.
Bo looked into the rear view mirror noticed a black sedan, he thought it was the same one as earlier but wasn't sure. The sedan then sped up and rammed into the back end of the General. Luke turned around to see who had hit them and saw it was the same car as earlier, and saw it was who he thought it was. The car then rammed into the General again.
"Ain't you gonna lose?" Luke asked.
"What do you think I'm trying to do. I don't know what they got under that hood, but it sure is powerful." Bo said.
The black sedan came up along side them and started to slam into the side of them. Bo hit the brakes and sedan flew past, Bo then turn the General around and sped off back down the road. The sedan turned and followed them. Bo pulled on to Ridge Runners road, the sedan was quickly catching up. Within seconds the sedan had caught back up to them, and slammed into the back end of the General.
"They must've got a lot of horse power in that engine, or be using nitrous oxide to catch up to us so quickly." Bo said.
The car pulled along side, and began to slam into them trying to knock them off the road. They were quickly approaching a bend, and Bo realised there was no way he could take the bend at the speed they were going, and eased off the gas a little. The sedan slammed into them as they hit the bend. They skidded down the embankment and slammed to a stop against an oak tree, and the engine stalled out.  Bo tried to get the General to start but the engine would not turn over. The sedan drove off the road and stopped a couple feet away from the General, and the guys got out and walked over to the General. Cory went over to the passengers side and pointed a gun in at the boys.
"Out of the car, now." Cory said in a demanding voice.
Bo and Luke slowly got out of the General.
"Hello Luke, so good to see you again." Cory said, and smiled.
"Too bad I can't say the same thing." Luke said.
"Told you we'd come calling on you." Cory said, then nodded at Alex and Fred, who were standing over by Bo.
Alex then punched Bo in the stomach, and Bo fell against the side of the General.
"Leave him out of this." Luke said in an angry voice.
"Not a chance. Just to show you how kind we are we're not gonna take out any revenge on you." Cory said and smiled nastily.
"What do you mean?" Luke asked in a worried questioning tone.
"Simple, we are going to take it out on your cousin." Cory said.
"Don't you dare hurt him." Luke said angrily.
"How do you plan on stopping us?" Cory asked, then slammed Luke against the tree.
Bo was leaning on the General trying to catch his breath when Alex grabbed him and brought his knee up into Bo's ribs. Fred held Bo from behind, then grabbed a handful of Bo's blonde hair and pulled his head up. Luke struggled to get away from Cory, to help Bo, but couldn't. Alex then backhanded Bo across the head, then slide on a pair of brass knuckles. Bo struggled to break out of Fred's hold but couldn't.  Alex punched Bo as hard as he could in the stomach, Bo flinched from the pain, Alex then punched him twice in the ribs, and then backhanded Bo across the head again. Fred let go of Bo, and Bo fell to his knees, gasping for breath, his body slightly trembling from the pain.
"Leave him alone." Luke said his voice full of anger, as he tried to get away from Cory.
Alex then kicked Bo in the ribs, then grabbed Bo's head and slammed it into the side of the General. Darkness consumed Bo's mind as he fell to the ground unconscious. Cory flung Luke against the General and then shot the front tire out. They then all took off in their car, before Luke had time to react to what had happened. Luke rushed over to Bo. He knelt down beside Bo and rolled Bo onto his back, then saw the cut on Bo's head. Luke brushed Bo's bangs, away from the cut, with his hand. "I'm so sorry about this." Luke said his voice soft and full of sadness. Luke got up and leaned into the General to call for help on the cb, but before he could do that he saw Daisy coming down the road.
Daisy spotted the General off the road and stopped to see what had happened.
"What happened here?" Daisy asked, then she noticed Bo laying on the ground.
She rushed over to Bo's side and knelt down by him, her eyes watered with tears, she looked up at Luke. "Who did this?" she asked, then started to cry.
"It's a long story. I'll tell ya all about it later, right now we're gonna have to get Bo to the hospital, we're gonna have to use your jeep, since one of the tires on the General has been shot out, and the engine died out." Luke said.
Luke bent down and picked up Bo and carried him over to Dixie and carefully laid him down on the backseat. Daisy gave Luke her keys then she got into the backseat with Bo, and held his head on her lap. Luke drove quickly to Tri-County General hospital. He hoped Bo wasn't hurt badly, he blamed himself for what had happened. He thought it to be all his fault that Bo had gotten hurt, because the people had hurt Bo because of him. He felt he should have tried to do more to stop it from happening, or that if he had told Bo about them sooner then this might not have happened.
Once they got to the hospital Bo was taken directly into the emergency room. Luke called Jesse to tell him that Bo was in the hospital. Fortunately Jesse had just came up to the house when Luke called, he rushed right over to the hospital. When he got there he saw Luke and Daisy sitting in the waiting room. Daisy had her head on Luke's shoulder and was crying, Luke's eyes were watering but he held the tears back. Jesse walked over to them.
"How is he?" Jesse asked worriedly.
"We don't know yet." Luke said.
Jesse sat down in the chair by Daisy, to wait for the doctor to come out and tell them how Bo was doing. They were all very worried about Bo and were praying for the best. About a half hour later the doctor came out, they all got up and went over to ask him how Bo was doing.
"How is doc?" Jesse asked his voice fraught with worry.
"He's got a couple bruised ribs, and a mild concussion, other then that he's doing okay, there has been no real damage done. However he is still unconscious, the sooner he wakes up the better." the doctor said.
"Can we go in and see him?" Jesse asked.
"Yes, he's in room ten." the doctor said.
They went into the room, Bo lay unconscious on the bed. Daisy went over and sat beside Bo, and took a hold of his hand, tears still streaked her cheeks. Jesse went and stood behind her, and put a hand on her shoulder. Luke went and sat on Bo's other side. Luke was still worried about Bo, and was blaming himself for what happened. Bo started to wake up, and he slowly opened his eyes, his head was dully throbbing.
"Are you okay?" Jesse asked concernedly.
"I think so . . . although I feel like I get hit by a truck." Bo said rubbing the back of his neck as he sat up.
They each gave Bo a hug, they were all glad that Bo had woke up, and were relieved that he was okay.
"So what happened anyway?" Jesse asked.
"Um . . . I don't really know." Bo said then glanced over at Luke.
"It's kind of a long story, I . . . knew these people back in the Marines" Luke said.
"So its your fault then that Bo got hurt." Daisy said angrily.
Luke didn't respond he just stood there looking hurt by what she said, since he himself thought it to be the truth.
"Daisy that's not true." Bo said.
Then Daisy felt bad, she didn't really mean to say it, or think it was at all true, she was still just so upset about Bo getting hurt. "I'm sorry Luke. I didn't mean it." Daisy said.
"No you were right. It is my fault." Luke said.
"That's not true. It ain't your fault." Bo said.
"Yes it is. Maybe you should wait till you hear the whole story before making up your mind." Luke said.
"I don't think now is the time." Jesse said.
"Yeah." Bo agreed "I just want to go home now" Bo said swinging his legs off the bed. Bo still had his jeans on, Daisy grabbed his shirt off a near by chair and handed it to Bo, he slid it on, over his bandaged ribs. Bo went to stand up and he stumbled when he did, but Luke caught him. Bo leaned on Luke as they walked out of the room and left hospital.
Once they got back to the farmhouse they went into the front room. Bo sat in one of the chairs, Jesse and Daisy sat on the couch, and Luke leaned against the fireplace.
"I guess there's no time better then now to tell y'all who those people were." Luke said.
"I'd say not." Daisy said sarcastically.
Bo gave her a look to hush, and Daisy realized she shouldn't have said that.
"Yeah well, like I said I know them from the Marines they were in my regiment,  over in Nahum. They were selling guns and ammo to the other side and trading drugs, stuff like that." Luke said.
"Don't sound like they was very nice people." Jesse said.
"Yeah, any ways, one day I stumbled across their operation by accident. They said if I kept my mouth shut they'd cut me in on their deal. Of course I didn't keep my mouth shut. I turned them in, and they were sent away. Before they left though they said that once they were out they come back for me." Luke said.
"So it is true it is your fault. They hurt Bo because of you." Daisy said and started to cry.
"Now Daisy . . ." Jesse said trying to hush her but she wouldn't listen.
"Daisy, it ain't Luke's fault, those people are just plain crazy." Bo said.
"No Bo, Daisy is right . . . it is all my fault. If I'd said something when I saw them the first time, or I done more when they did attack . . ."Luke said his voice trailing off at the end.
"That ain't true. There's nothing more you could've done, you can't blame yourself." Bo said and got up and walked over to Luke and put a hand on Luke's shoulder.
"Luke I'm sorry, Bo's right, it's not your fault." Daisy said and walked over to Luke and gave him a hug.
Cooter towed the General to the farm, and Luke went out to help him fix it. Daisy and Jesse fixed dinner, while Bo rested, his head was still a little sore, and his ribs still ached. Cooter and Luke didn't finishing fixing the General before it started to get dark, so Luke said he'd finish it off tomorrow. Cooter left after dinner. Everyone was really tired that night, so they all went to bed early.
The next morning Bo and Luke were outside, fixing a last couple things on the General, Daisy was hanging a load of laundry, and Jesse was just going outside to milk the goat, when Rosco came speeding towards the farm his serins blaring.
"What's old Rosco doing here? We ain't done nothing wrong, have we?" Bo asked looking at Luke.
"I don't think so." Luke said.
Rosco got out of his patrol car and walked over to the General. "Alright you boys are under arrest." Rosco said taking out his handcuffs.
     "For what?" Luke asked.
"For robbing the Boars Nest, that's what." Rosco said.
"What? We didn't rob the Boars Nest." Luke said.
"We've been here all day. And the General hasn't even been working." Bo said.
"Oh tiddly. I don't buy that, now come along your under arrest." Rosco said.
Jesse and Daisy tried to intervene but Rosco wouldn't listen, he cuffed Bo and Luke and took them to jail. Rosco put them in the cell downstairs, after he uncuffed them. Boss went down to the cell with Rosco.
"You ain't gonna get away with framing us." Bo said.
"What are you talking about Bo?" Boss asked "The Boars Nest was robbed and I just know it was you boys that did it."
"We didn't rob the Boars Nest. We ain't been nowheres near the Boars Nest since early yesterday" Luke said.
Boss and Rosco didn't listen to what the boys said, they just turned and went back upstairs, to tell Jesse what the bail was set at. Bo laid down on the bed in the cell, and Luke stood and leaned against the bars.
Boss got upstairs where Jesse and Daisy were waiting. "Bail is $500." he said.
"We don't got that kind of money. How dare you frame the boys." Daisy said angrily.
"I did no such thing, how dare you insinuate such a thing. The Boars Nest was robbed and them twos the criminals who robbed it." Boss said.
"My boys did no such thing." Jesse said starting to become very agitated.
Cooter heard about the boys getting arrested and came and gave Jesse the money he need to get Bo and Luke out. The Dukes went back to the farm.
"I wonder why Boss is trying to frame you boys for robbing the Boars Nest." Daisy said.
"I don't think it was him." Luke said.
     "What? Why?" Daisy asked.
"He seemed to upset about it being robbed." Luke said.
"So who do you think robbed the Boars Nest?" Jesse asked.
"Well I think it might have been . . ."Luke started to say.
"The same guys we had a run in with yesterday." Bo said finishing Luke's sentence.
"I figure they are still in town somewheres, So I'm gonna go and try to find them." Luke said walking towards the door.
"Well I'm going with you then." Bo said getting up and walking after Luke.
"No. I don't think so." Luke said.
"Well I ain't about to let you go after them on our own. And beside I got my own score to settle with them." Bo said.
Luke smiled "Fine, you win cousin."
The boys took their bows and arrows, and put them in the General. Fortunately they had finished fixing the engine before Rosco had arrested them. Bo sped off from the farm, and Luke put a call out over the Hazzard net to see if anyone had seen any sign of the baddies. A few minutes later a reply came back saying they had saw a black sedan at the Hazzard junkyard. Luke cb'd Jesse to tell him that they were going there, and Bo sped toward the junkyard.
When they arrived at the junkyard they saw a black sedan sitting out front. They knew it was the same one because it had streaks of orange paint, from the General on the side of it.
"Looks like they're here all right." Bo said.
Luke cb'd Rosco to tell him they knew where the guys were that robbed the Boars Nest.
"Rosco we found the guys that robbed the Boars Nest. They are at the junkyard, we'd appreciate a little back up." Luke said.
"Oh tiddly. Its you boys that robbed the Boars Nest, I don't got no time to waste on your lies." Rosco said.
"Rosco this ain't a lie, just come out to the junkyard." Luke said.
Rosco figured maybe he should go, maybe he could get Boss's money back, and then get Boss to give him a raise. "Oh alright." he said.
Bo and Luke then went into the junkyard to look around.
"Don't see them anywhere, maybe we should split up, we could find them quicker that way." Bo said.
"I don't think that's such a good idea." Luke said.
"And why not?" Bo asked "We gotta find them before Rosco gets here or he'll throw us back in jail." Bo said.
"Yeah but what happens when we find them?" Luke asked "Three on one is not exactly fair odds."
"Well then we just find were their hid out and just wait to get them is all." Bo said.
"But last time . . ." Luke started to say.
"Well last time I wasn't expecting it" Bo said "I can take care of myself" Bo added, in a slightly irritated tone.
"I know that. Fine you win. But if you do run into them don't try to take them on by yourself." Luke said.
"How crazy do you think I am?" Bo asked and then laughed.
     "I'm serious." Luke said.
"So am I. Look I'll be careful, you be careful to would ya." Bo said.
     "Yeah, of course." Luke said.
The boys split up to search the junkyard. Bo walked around a pile of old tires, then he thought he heard something behind him. He went to turn around to look but was grabbed from behind, around the neck. Then Cory slipped a chloroform soaked cloth over Bo's mouth and nose. Bo tried to struggle and get away, but the fumes overwhelmed him, darkness consumed his mind as he fell into unconsciousness. Cory then drug Bo off.
Luke was on the far side of the junkyard and he was starting to worry about Bo. He was beginning to have second thoughts about letting him go off on his own. Then an explosion sounded, breaking the silence. Luke looked around and saw black smoke billowing from the other side of the junkyard, he rushed towards the smoke, worriedly. He came into a small clearing in the junkyard and saw a couple old cars, below a walkway connecting a couple buildings, had burst into flames. Then Cory stepped out  from behind a pile of old cars and stood about five feet away from where Luke stood.
"Did you lose something? Or should I say someone." Cory said smiling them motioned up at the walkway above the burning cars.
Luke could just see that someone was up there, through all the smoke. The a gust of wind blew away some of the smoke, and Luke could make out Bo's shirt. Luke's face went pale, and his eyes filled with worry. "Let him go, its me you want revenge on." Luke said.
"I don't think so. One thing I remember about you is how protective you are of the people you care about. So I'm going to make you know what it feels like to lose someone you care so much about." Cory said, then nodded to Alex.
Alex then sent off and explosive charge on the walkway that sent Bo plummeting into the fire.
"NO!" Luke screamed and ran towards the fire.
As he went past by Cory, Cory hit him in the stomach. Luke dropped to knees and gasped breath. Luke looked up at the fire still trying to catching his breath his eyes watered with tears, that glimmered in the glow of the fire. When Luke wasn't looking Cory had slipped away along with Alex and Fred.
Rosco had heard the explosion and called for a fire truck, when he saw the black smoke, and had rushed to the junkyard. He saw the fire, and then spotted Luke, he went to walk over to him. Luke stood up and started to rush towards the fire. Rosco grabbed him by the arm.
"Let me go, Bo's in there, I gotta get him out." Luke said his voice shaking.
"If he's in there, there's nothing you can do for him." Rosco said holding Luke back from the fire.
The fire trucks arrived and started to put out the fire. Rosco took Luke over to his patrol car and called for an ambulance. Luke just stood watching the fire, his eyes brimming with tears. Rosco stood by him to be sure he didn't try to run into the fire, again. The fire was just finished being put out when the ambulance arrived. They took a stretcher and went to search the rumble. They came back out with the stretcher with Bo's body which was covered with a blanket.
"No, Bo can't be dead." Luke said rushing over to the ambulance.
"Sorry, he is dead." the ambulance attendant said.
Luke just stood there in shock he could not believe that Bo was dead. Bo was the one person he had always been closest to and for Bo to be gone was too hard for him to accept. Rosco led Luke back to the patrol car and sat him in the front seat. He hooked the General up to the back of the car, and drove off to the Duke farm to break the bad news to the rest of the Dukes.
Daisy saw Rosco's car approaching. "Uncle Jesse, what's going on?" she asked, as Rosco pulled to a stop.
Jesse just shook his head, and looked over at Rosco's patrol car.
Rosco got out of the car, and then Luke slowly got out from the passengers side. Jesse and Daisy just stood watching confused.
     "Where's Bo?" Jesse asked concernedly.
"I'm afraid I've got some bad news." Rosco said.
"It's my fault, it's all my fault."  Luke said looking down at the ground, his voice trembled and was filled with pain. A few tears slipped from his eyes.
"What's your fault?" Jesse asked his voice filled with concern.
"There ain't no easy way to break this to you . . .Bo was killed in a fire at the junkyard, just a little while ago." Rosco said.
"What?" Jesse questioned his voice full of shock and sorrow.
"You've got to be wrong." Daisy said.
"Wish I was, really wish I was. I'm really sorry about all this." Rosco said.
"Its my fault." Luke said, still looking at the ground, tears starting to streak his cheeks.
"What happened anyway?" Jesse asked his voice full of sadness.
Luke bite back the tears and looked up. "We found their car at the junkyard, and went in to look for them . . . Bo decided we'd find them quicker if we split up. Then . . .then I don't know what happened. There was a couple of cars that caught fire. Then . . .Bo was tied up on a walkway above them and . . .then they . . . they blew it up and Bo...Bo fell into the fire." Luke said his voice trembling and filled with pain.
"It is your fault then. Its your fault that Bo is dead. They killed him because of you. Its all your fault." Daisy said then broke into tears
"Daisy, its not Luke's fault." Jesse said, tears streaking his cheeks.
Daisy looked at Jesse then over at Luke. " Your right uncle Jesse. Luke I'm sorry, I didn't mean it" she said and went over and hugged Luke.
Luke put an arm around her and took a deep breath. "You were right though, it's my fault." Luke said hugging her.
Jesse went over and put an arm around both Daisy and Luke. "Its not your fault. From what you said there was nothing you could've done." Jesse said.
"They took his body to the county morgue" Rosco said quietly "If there's anything I can do to help just name it." he added.
"No, thank-you, we're fine for now." Jesse said his voice full of sadness.
Rosco went back into town to tell Boss what had happened, the Dukes went into town to the morgue and signed all the papers that had to be signed, then went back to the farm. The word of Bo's death spread quickly, and within a few hours the whole town knew.
Cooter went to the farm as soon as he got the bad news. Jesse was on the phone making the arrangements for Bo's funeral, Luke and Daisy were sitting quietly on the couch in the front room. Daisy ran over and hugged Cooter when he came in.
"I still can't believe he's really gone." Cooter said and hugged Daisy.
"I know. It hurts so much that he's gone." Daisy said leaning against Cooter.
Jesse hung the phone up. "Everything is all set the . . . the funeral is in two days. I just got a call a few people from out of town and tell them what's happened" Jesse said tears filled his eyes.
He was filled with such a great sadness he didn't want to think that Bo was really dead. Having to make the funeral arrangements was such a hard thing for him to have to do. They told Cooter what happened and how Bo had died. Boss called to say that all charges against Luke for robbing the Boars Nest had been dropped, and conveyed his condolences about Bo's death. The remainder day seemed to pass quickly and it grew dark. Cooter went home. Nobody really felt like eating, everyone just decided to go to bed early, except for Luke.
Luke did not want to go into the room that he and Bo had shared. He sat awake all night, his mind constantly replaying the days tragic events. Tears streaked his cheeks. He was angry at himself for allowing Bo to get killed. His mind still did not want to accept that Bo was really gone. It all just seemed like a really bad dream.
The next day seemed to drag on forever. Jesse finished making the last few arrangements for the funeral and calling a few people who still had not heard what had happened. People were calling most the morning to convey their sympathy. Cooter closed the garage and spent the day at the Duke farm. Rosco, Boss, and Lulu came by for a while to express their sympthy. Enos was at police school and could only come for the day of the funeral. None of the Dukes felt much like eating but Lulu insisted that it would do no good for them to starve themselves.
Luke didn't feel like being around anyone, and early in the day had went into the bedroom. Jesse went into the bedroom to tell him he really should eat. Luke sat quietly on the bed starring at the floor.
"Why don't you come on out Luke, you need to eat something." Jesse said.
Luke didn't respond he just sat still on the bed, not looking up. Jesse went in and sat down on the bed beside Luke and put and arm around him. Still Luke didn't move. Jesse had no idea what to say to him, he stood back up and walked over to the door.
"Well if you feel like eating later come on out." Jesse said and left the room, closing the door quietly behind him.
Luke just sat on the bed trying to hold back the tears. He already missed Bo so much it hurt. He was blaming himself for Bo's death, thinking it to be all his fault.
The day of Bo's funeral arrived. Most everyone in Hazzard came for the funeral, and those that couldn't come sent their regards. The small church filled quickly, the Dukes sat up front. Luke just sat there starring down at the floor, part of him didn't want to be there, he didn't really want to be around anyone. Soon everybody was in the church, amazing grace was being played on the organ, and sung by the small church choir. Luke really didn't want to be there, he wanted to get up and leave but he knew he couldn't cause it would hurt Jesse and Daisy's feelings if he did.
"We have been brought together by a tragic event, the death of Beauregard Duke." the preacher said.
Luke became lost in his own thoughts. He thought to himself how Bo hated to be called that, and  nobody ever called Bo by his full name. He started thinking about Bo and some off the things they had been through together. The pain of Bo's death seemed to multiply as he thought about these things. He couldn't imagine what he was going to do with out Bo, they had done everything together, and he just couldn't bear the fact that Bo was dead. Luke bite his lip to stop the tears. Luke had almost completely tunned out the funeral, but some of what was being said still floated into his ears. He heard people saying about how great a person Bo was and how it was a shame he had to die so young, hearing this just seemed to increase the pain, and also increase blame towards himself for Bo's death. All he could think of was that Bo didn't deserve to die, not now, and not the way he did. He thought of a promise that they had made to each other when they were just little kids, a promise that they would always be there for each other, and look out for and take care of each other. Luke tried hard to hold the tears back, but a few tears rolled down his cheeks. He thought to himself, "I am so sorry, I let you down. I broke our promise. Its all my fault that you are dead, I let you die." He could feel the tears burning his eyes as he tried to hold them back. He could hear amazing grace being played on the organ again.
Jesse put a hand on Luke's shoulder. "Come on Luke." He said quietly his voice was filled with a deep sadness.
Luke stood slowly up, and followed Jesse and Daisy outside. They went over the graveyard. Daisy stood crying leaning against Jesse, who hugged her, tears streaked his own cheeks. Luke stood just a couple feet away, his head hung down and eyes closed.
"Ashes to ashes, dust to dust." the preacher said and tossed dirt on the coffin.
The sound of the dirt hitting the coffin sent a chill through Luke, he bite his lip to stop the tears.
The Dukes stood by the grave a few minutes after everyone else had left. Daisy turned and left first. She got into Dixie, which Cooter was driving, since none of the Dukes felt much like driving.  Jesse put a hand on Luke's shoulder. "Come on Luke its time to go." he said softly.
Luke didn't want to go, he wanted to stay there by Bo's grave longer, but Jesse led him back over to the jeep.
They got back to the farm a few people had already gathered there for Bo's wake. Jesse thanked the people for coming. Luke could hear all the people talking about how it was a shame that Bo got killed, and how it was hard to think that he was gone. All Luke could think of when he heard this was that it was all his fault that Bo had got killed, and he started to quietly walk to his bedroom.
As he went he heard someone whisper: "Oh poor Luke, him and Bo were so close. I mean you never saw them anywhere alone. It must be so hard on him"
"Yeah, must be the poor boy" the other person replied.
Daisy saw Luke go into the bedroom and went in after him, to be sure he was alright. Luke was just sitting on the bed with his head hung down.  Daisy went and sat down beside him, and put an arm around his shoulders.
"Luke, why don't you come on out with us." Daisy said, her voice soft and sad.
Luke just shook his head, not even looking up. Daisy sat there for a couple minutes beside him and then got up and left.
A few minutes later Jesse came in and sat down on the bed, by Luke, and gave him a hug. Luke didn't move or even look up.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Jesse asked his voice was sad and filled with concern.
Luke just shook his head, not looking up.
"Well whenever you do want to talk I'm here for you." Jesse said and hugged Luke.
Luke still just sat there not moving or looking up.
"Are you going to come out for Bo's wake?" Jesse asked.
Luke bite back the tears, and shook his head.
"Well if you change your mind, just come on out." Jesse said then got up and left, closing the door quietly behind himself.
A couple moments after he left, Luke looked up. He looked around the room, it seemed so empty without Bo there. Luke opened the bottom drawer of nightstand, that was between the two beds, and took out a small box. He opened the box, it was filled with pictures. Luke sat looking at the pictures, some where taken when they were just kids, and some were taken recently. As he sat looking at the pictures the tears he had been trying to hold back started to flow, his cheeks were streaked with tears. Luke spoke in voice that was barely a whisper "I'm sorry Bo. I let you down. Its all my fault that you got killed, its my fault that you are dead. If it wasn't for me you'd still be alive." his tears then started to flow harder. Luke sat looking at the pictures, and exhaustion began to set in. He laid down on the bed and fell into a deep sleep, in his hand he held a picture of Bo that was taken a few months ago, after he had won the dirt road championship race. The wake was over, people had been coming and going through the farmhouse's flimsy screen door all day, until it had become dusk. Daisy had gone to bed. Jesse quietly opened Luke's bedroom door to check on him, he saw Luke was asleep. He closed the door quietly, then went bed himself. Luke was in a deep sleep for a few hours. Luke's sleep was interrupted by a nightmare.
 ***************************
He was in the graveyard standing in front of Bo's grave, then everything around him vanished, and a heavy fog rolled in. Luke started to blindly walk around trying to get out of the fog. The fog cleared a little and he could see Bo standing against a large, dead tree. He ran towards him, but when he reached the tree, Bo was not there. Then from behind him he heard Bo. "Hello Luke."
Luke turned around and saw Bo standing a couple of feet away from him, he tried to go to him, but found he couldn't move. "Bo, I'm so glad to see you."
"Too bad I can't say the same thing." Bo said his voice was cold and angry sounding.
Luke stood shocked for a moment "What do you mean?" he asked still trying to move.
"What I mean is I hate you. Its your fault I'm dead. You got me killed." Bo said angrily.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to . . .I'm so sorry." Luke said, tears brimming his eyes.
"I don't care what you say, its all your fault that I'm dead." Bo said angrily.
The tree became encircled in flames, that began to close in on Luke. Luke tried to move to get away from the flames but couldn't.
"Bo I'm sorry." he said tears starting to streaking his cheeks.
"I don't care. I hate you. It all your fault I'm dead." Bo said.
The flames started to close in quicker on Luke. Luke just started shouting "I'm sorry!" over and over again.
 **************************
Luke then woke up he sat straight up in the bed. His body slightly trembling, and a scream was in his throat but he held it back. He took a couple deep breaths. "I am sorry Bo. I never wanted anything to happen to you." he said quietly and laid back down on the bed. Luke however didn't go back to sleep he turned on the light and laid awake the rest of the night, looking at the pictures and thinking about Bo, and what had happened.
When dawns early light shone through the bedroom window Luke got up and sat in a chair in the front room looking out the window at the farmyard. A short time later Jesse and Daisy got up, they went into the kitchen to make breakfast.
Jesse came out to get Luke to come eat breakfast.  "Breakfast is ready."
     "I ain't hungry." Luke responded.
"Well, you have to eat. You ain't ate nothing in days, so come eat." Jesse said
"Yes sir." Luke said softly, getting up from the chair.
Luke ate a little bit, mostly he pushed the food around on his plate. After breakfast they all went and sat in the front room. Luke sat in the chair by the window, looking out at the yard again.
"I think we should start packing up Bo's things." Jesse said in a sad voice.
"What? You can't do that." Luke said angrily turning around and looking at Jesse.
"Why not?" Jesse asked his voice still was full of sadness and grief.
"Yeah Luke. Bo is gone, you got to accept that." Daisy said quietly.
She had finally started to accept that Bo was gone herself, even thought she didn't really want to. The funeral had made that he was gone all seem real. Before that she had hoped it was all a bad dream, the funeral took that hope away. She was still filled with pain and sadness over Bo's death.
"I know that Bo is gone, and its all my fault that he is.  I won't let you get rid of his things." Luke said angrily.
"It's not your fault that Bo is dead." Daisy said.
"There was nothing you could've done. I think it would be best if we packed his things up for a while. I never said we'd get rid of them." Jesse said.
"Just leave his stuff alone. Don't pack up anything." Luke said, tears coming to his eyes.
Luke got up and went outside and took off in the General. They decided that Luke just needed some time on his own and not to follow him, and also not to pack up Bo's things.
Luke drove around not really knowing where he was going, and he ended up at the graveyard. He went over to Bo's grave, his eyes were brimmed with tears. He knelt down by the grave and softly spoke. "Bo I miss you so much. I'm so very sorry that I got you involved in my problem and got you killed. I'm so sorry brother. I hope you know that I never meant for anything to happened to you. It should have been me that got killed, not you"
Luke heard a twig snap behind him and turned to look to see who was there. He saw Bo standing by a large, dead tree, a few feet away. Luke stood up. "Bo I'm so glad to see you. I thought that were dead." Luke said smiling for the first time in days, and started to walk to towards Bo.
"Yeah, whatever." Bo said in an agitated voice.
Luke didn't notice the agitation in Bo's voice as he was just so happy to see him alive. Luke was a couple feet from Bo. "Bo I'm so glad that you are okay" he said "What happened?" he asked.
"Like you care." Bo said and then tossed his bangs out of his eyes, with his hand.
"Bo what are you talking about? Of course I care." Luke said and gave a little laugh of disbelief that Bo would think otherwise.
"Yeah, right." Bo said then punched Luke in the jaw.
Luke feel backwards onto the ground he sat there stunned for a moment shocked by what just happened, then he stood back up. "Bo what . . ." Luke started to say, but Bo cut him off.
"Just shut up. Save it for someone who cares about what you have to say." Bo said then punched Luke, in the ribs.
Luke fell to the ground, as he tried to get Bo kicked him in the ribs again, and he fell back to the ground. Luke gasped to catch his breath, his happiness at seeing Bo alive again had turned into shock and disbelief, he couldn't figure out why Bo was acting this way. Bo went to kick Luke again, but Luke rolled out of the way just in time to avoid Bo's foot. Luke was on his back, and Bo came over and placed his foot on Luke's throat. Bo started to step down on his throat, Luke tried to struggle to get away but couldn't.
"This is just a little warning, by the time we are done Hazzard won't be nothing more then a memory, and I'll destroy you." Bo said nastily, then walked off.
Luke sat up slowly and tried to catch his breath, his ribs ached. He wondered why Bo was acting this way. He wondered who he meant by we, then thought oh no, not them, why would Bo be helping them. Luke sat there for a few moments, then stood up slowly and started to walk back to where he had parked the General.
When he reached the General he saw it had been vandalized.  All the tires had been sliced, the cb antenna was ripped off, the windows were smashed, the headlights, and taillights were broken, and some had taken a tire iron to the rest of the General's body it was dented in. Stuck to the steering wheel was a note:
Just in case you thought I wasn't serious
before, here's another little warning to
prove just how serious I really am.
Signed Guess Who!!

Luke immediately recognised the handwriting to be Bo's. Luke walked two miles down the road, to the bus stop where there was a phone. He called Cooter to come and give him a tow. Cooter arrived about fives later. While he hooked the General up to the tow truck, Luke told him that Bo was still alive and what had happened in the graveyard.
"Are you serious?" Cooter asked in a voice of disbelievement.
     "Yeah I am." Luke said.
"That sure don't sound like Bo." Cooter said.
"I know that Cooter. He would never do something like that. Something has to be really wrong." Luke said worriedly.
Cooter towed the General to the garage, and he told Luke that there would be no charge to fix the damage, but Luke said he wouldn't let him fix it for free.
Outside a cabin in Stillson's canyon, Bo and Fred were working on the sedan's engine. Inside the cabin Cory and Alex were talking.
"Looks like you were right we have full control of his mind." Alex said.
"Of course I was right. His system is full of a mind control drug Plhrosnthye." Cory said.
"Yeah, but at first it didn't work on him." Alex said.
"Well he didn't have as much in his system, and was trying to fight it." Cory said.
"He sure was sure stubborn about it." Alex said
"I know. It just took a little longer all he really did was cause himself  extra pain, considering there was no way that any human mind can resist the effects of the drug. It took some time to get control of his mind." Cory said.
"Yeah and telling him how he'd been hurt, and that his family had left him for dead, and we saved his life, was genius." Alex said.
"Of course it was. That is why I am the leader." Cory said.
Then they went outside, and everyone got into the car and the drove off towards Hazzard.
Cooter told Luke it would take a day, at least, to get the replacement glass for the General. He gave Luke a ride to the Duke farm. Luke told Jesse and Daisy that Bo was alive and what all had happened. The were happy to hear that Bo was alive, but surprised to hear about the way he was acting. An emergency call then came over the cb, that the 200 block of Hazzard square was on fire, and that the fire was quickly spreading. They decided to go into town to help put the fire out.
Luke thought that Bo might have had something to do with the fires, so he borrowed Jesse's pickup truck to try to find Bo. As he drove he listened on the cb as to what was happening in town, fire tucks from neighbouring counties were called in to help fight the blaze. Luke noticed something moving in the woods along the road, he pulled over and stopped at the side of the road. He saw a glimpse of someone moving in the woods and he knew it was Bo. He got out of the truck and walked into the woods. Luke saw Bo standing a few feet away. Bo cracked his knuckles, and smiled.
"Bo I don't want to fight with you. I just want to talk to you." Luke said.
"Well ain't that too bad, because a fight is what you are gonna to get." Bo said.
"Bo . . . " Luke started to say then found he had no idea of what to say.
Bo glared at Luke, then he started to walk slowly towards Luke. Neither Bo nor Luke saw the quicksand that Bo was walking towards, Bo fell into quicksand.
"No! Bo!" Luke yelled and rushed to the edge of the quicksand. "Give me your hand, I'll pull you out." Luke said.
"No. You'll let me go under." Bo said, struggling to try to get out, but to no avail.
"That's not true Bo. I'd never let you go under. I don't want to lose you. Now give me your hand." Luke said reaching for Bo.
Bo stopped struggling to think about what Luke was  saying. His attempts at getting out of the quicksand were only causing him to slip deeper into it.
"Bo please." Luke said his voice pleading, reaching for Bo as far as he could.
Bo reached up and took a hold of Luke's hand. Luke pulled Bo out of the quicksand. They both sat on the ground. Bo sat looking at Luke he couldn't understand what was happening or why Luke had saved his life. Bo's head was throbbing, he knew someone had told him lies, his mind struggled to remember the truth. The more Bo tried to remember the worse his head ached, he didn't know what to believe.
Luke put his arm around Bo's shoulder. "Bo I'm so glad, that your okay. It's good to have you back, I've missed you so much"
Bo looked into Luke's eyes, part of him felt that he could trust Luke while another part of him seemnd to scream that he couldn't. Bo couldn't think straight, or of what was even going on. He leaned his head against Luke, trying to think of what was going on. Luke kept his arm around Bo's shoulder, he didn't know what to say to Bo, he could tell Bo was hurting and was filled with concern for his younger cousin. They sat that way for several minutes in silence.
Bo slowly started to remember what was going on and what all had recently happened. He pulled away from Luke, his face was pale and sad looking."Luke I'm sorry." he said, his voice trembled slightly.
     "Its okay." Luke said reassuringly.
Bo sat there shivering, his head was still dully aching. Luke helped Bo to his feet. They went back to the truck, Bo leaning against Luke for support. There was a blanket under the seat. Luke took it out and put it around Bo's shoulders to try to warm him up.
"Are you okay?" Luke asked concernedly.
"Yeah. I feel like I got hit by a truck though." Bo said and gave a half hearted smile.
"How much do you remember about what's happened?" Luke asked.
Bo closed his eyes then took a deep breath and then looked at Luke. "When we were at the junkyard someone grabbed me from behind and knocked me out." Bo paused for a moment as though to collect his thoughts." When I woke up after that I was in dimly light room tied to a chair. they injected me with stuff I forget what they said it was." Bo said. "I hate needles." he added trying to relieve some of the built up stress he was feeling.
Luke smiled, glad that Bo seemed to be back to his old self.
"I remember them telling me that there was this accident and that you were there as well as Uncle Jesse and Daisy. They told me that y'all left me there for dead figuring I was as good as dead." Bo said.
"I'd never . . ." Luke started to say but Bo stopped him.
"I know that." Bo said and smiled at Luke. "I didn't believe them at first I tried to fight it but . . . it just became harder and harder to fight and resist what was happening." Bo said. He looked away from Luke."Then there was everything else that I did after . . ."
Luke put a hand reassuringly on Bo's shoulder. "Nothing that happened is your fault."
"I never . . ." Bo started to say but Luke cut his sentence off.
"I know." Luke said and smiled.
Bo smiled back at Luke.
"Do you remember where they are hid out?" Luke asked.
     "Stillsons Canyon." Bo said.
"Well what do you say we go pay them a little visit?" Luke asked.
"Sounds fine to me." Bo said.
They got into the pickup and drove off towards Stillsons Canyon, it came over the cb that the fire was out and that there was only minimal damage done. As Luke drove, Bo sat starring out the side window.
"Are you sure that your okay?" Luke asked concernedly.
"Yeah I was just thinking is all." Bo said.
"Good. Listen I am really glad that you are back." Luke said.
Bo didn't respond he just continued to stare out the window. They drove the rest of the way to the cabin in silence. They stopped on a rise over looking the cabin. They saw them standing out by the car looking at a map. Luke called Rosco on the cb, to tell him the people responsible for the fire where at Stillsons Canyon.
They snuck down around the back of the cabin, and went quietly  around to the cabin,  to confront the baddies.
"It's all over for you." Luke said.
They turned around and saw Bo and Luke standing a few feet away from them.
"I don't think so." Cory said.
"Well it is over. This time you'll be going to jail for a long time." Luke said.
Cory didn't respond he just looked at Bo. "Now why are you listening to his lies? He is your enemy he's filling your head with lies." Cory said.
Bo's system was still full of the drug,  his thought were still a little foggy, and he believed what Cory was saying to be the truth. He swung his fist at Luke, and Luke grabbed it.
"Bo don't do this. You can fight this. It don't have to be this way." Luke said.
Bo dropped his arm, his face pale, he hung his head down, and rubbed the back of his neck.
There was a silence which was broke by the blare of Rosco's sirens approaching. Cory went to run and Luke moved to stop him. With one swift punch, Luke knocked Cory down to the ground, knocking him unconscious. Alex and Fred went to attack Luke. Bo looked up and saw what was going on but didn't make any movement to help Luke. His head was throbbing and his thoughts all seemed fuzzy, and telling him two different things, he didn't really know which to believe was the truth. Rosco pulled up and brought the patrol car to a stop a few feet away from the black sedan.
"All right, freeze." Rosco said drawing his gun.
Alex and Fred backed off from Luke. Luke went over and stood by Bo, he put an arm around Bo's shoulder. Rosco had cuffed Cory, Alex, and Fred, and turned and looked over at Luke, and was shocked when he saw Bo standing beside Luke.
"Jumping gee Hosinfat. Your alive." Rosco said happily.
"Yeah I'm alive." Bo said his voice quiet.
"How though?" Rosco asked as he shoved the baddies into the patrol car.
"It's a long story." Luke said.
Rosco saw the bag of money on the backseat of the sedan, he picked it up, and tossed it on the front seat of the patrol car. It was the money that had been stolen from the Boars Nest.
Rosco took the baddies to the jail. The state police were called into Hazzard, to come get Cory, Alex, and Fred.  Fred confessed to them everything that had happened.
The grave was dug up and the body was identified as that of an unidentified body that had been stolen from the Capitol City morgue. The word that Bo was still alive spread quickly. Luke and Bo went to the farm. Daisy and Jesse hugged Bo as soon as he walked into the house. The drugs started to leave Bo's system. What he had been fausly told about what had happened, began to seem more like just a dream and lost any truth in his mind. He could still remember how he had acted though and felt bad, but of course everyone forgave, because it wasn't his fault. There was a small celebration at the Boars Nest, to celebrate that Bo was alive.
