The sun shone down brightly over Hazzard. A
lone figure stood up and the ridge that over looked the Duke farm. Bo and
Luke emerged from the farm house. Bo was leaning on Luke's shoulder and
they were laughing about something. The figure watched as they then jumped
into their orange stock car, General Lee. Bo drove off towards Hazzard.
"So where are you two off to this time? You'd
better enjoy your peace now because your world is about to coming crashing
down." he said then laughed. "Actually it has already started to crash
hasn't Luke?"
The man brushed back his long brown bangs out of his blue eyes, then
got into his car and left the ridge.
Bo pulled to a stop in front of Cooter's
garage, then him and Luke got out the car. Their friend Cooter Davenport
came out to greet them.
"Hey Bo, what's hey Luke." he greeted them
cheerfully.
"Hey Cooter." Bo said.
Luke didn't reply, he appeared to be lost deep in thought.
"What's up with Luke?" Cooter asked Bo.
"I don't know he's been like that for the
past couple of days, but don't talk about what his problem is." Bo said.
"Hey Luke you in there?" Cooter asked jokingly.
"What?" Luke asked coming out of thought.
"I said are you in there?" Cooter said.
"Oh yeah, I was just thinking is all." Luke
replied.
"So you got them parts for the General in?"
Bo asked.
"Yeah. They's top of line stuff." Cooter said.
"Better be at the price." Bo said jokingly.
Luke still remained silent, still remembering back to an event that
happened when him and Bo were just children. Something he tried hard to
get over, he had until just recently. When it all came back to haunt him.
Bo and Cooter then installed the new
parts into the General. Then Bo and Luke left the garage, taking the back
roads home to test out the new parts. Luke sat staring out the side window,
not really paying any attention to how the new parts were working.
"Hey Luke . . ." Bo said.
"Yeah what?" Luke asked.
"What's up with you lately?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well lately you just keep like spacing out
and all . . . So what is it that bothering you?"
"It's nothing."
"Yeah right cousin, I can tell something is
up. So why . . ." Bo started to say but Luke cut his sentence off.
"It is nothing Bo." Luke said turning to look
at Bo. "Nothing is wrong. So just don't worry about, okay?"
"Yeah, okay." Bo said glancing at Luke then
back at the road. He could tell Luke wasn't being truthful and that something
was wrong. However he decided not to keep pushing the subject, he figured
when and if Luke wanted to talk he'd talk. He figured it was something
major with the way Luke was acting. He could tell Luke was lying just to
keep him from worry. There was something else about it to that he couldn't
quite place a finger on and it puzzled him.
Luke turned and stared back out the window. He didn't want to
lie to Bo but didn't want him to know about what was wrong either. He thought
it was best that way to protect Bo if he knew what was wrong it would only
upset him, and it had taken both them so long to get over what had happened.
Rosco had been sitting at one of his favourite
speed traps, he smiled as the General raced past.
"Hot pursuit I love it I love it, coo coo."
Rosco said happily, glancing down at his basset hound, Flash, who was sitting
on the front seat beside him.
Rosco turned on the siren and speed off after the General.
Bo glanced into the rear view mirror. "Dang it, it's Rosco."
Luke looked out the back window and saw the patrol car fastly approaching
them. "Well we ain't got time to mess with him we told Uncle Jesse that
we'd be home by six for dinner. So just lose him."
"Yes sir. Bye bye Rosco." Bo said, as he accelerated
the General.
Luke looked back and noticed that Rosco was still behind them. "You
ain't doin' to good at losing him, he's still hangin' in back there."
Bo glanced into the rear view mirror and saw that Rosco was keeping
up with the General. "Dang it, ol' Rosco is getting better at this." he
said then laughed.
"Yeah, better, not good, but better." Luke
agreed. "Just try to lose him."
"I told ya that I'd lose him and I'm gonna
lose him." Bo said.
Up ahead the road had a barricade across it, with a sign reading: BRIDGE
OUT.
"And here is where we are gonna lose Rosco."
Bo said. "Hold on cousin."
Bo accelerated more and then the General soared gracefully across the
sky, over the river.
"YEE-HAW!" Bo yelled as the General flew through
the air.
Then they landed on the other side, Bo stopped a few feet down the
road and him and Luke turned to watch Rosco's attempt at jumping the river.
Rosco's patrol car became airborne, then splashed down into the middle
of the river. Bo and Luke laughed as they saw Rosco's climb out the window
holding Flash.
"Looks like he's okay." Luke said.
"Yeah ain't nothing hurtin' but his pride."
Bo said.
Then they sped off towards the farm.
After they finished eating dinner and had
cleaned up the dishes, they went to sit down in the front room. Luke stood
by the end of couch not sitting down.
"I got a headache so I think that I am gonna
turn in early tonight." Luke said, rubbing at his temples.
It wasn't a real lie he did have a little bit of a headache, but he
just felt more like being alone.
"Okay, good night." Jesse said.
"Night, hope your headache goes away." Daisy
said.
"Night." Bo said.
Luke turned and went to the bedroom that he and
Bo shared. He turned on the small lamp between the two beds. He took out
the letter that he had received two days ago and started to read it again.
Luke,
So you think you can make choices so easily and just forget about the consequences of the choice? You don't care how the choices you make effect anyone else. Well Luke now one of them choices is going to come back to haunt you again. This time you won't have a choice to make, the choice will be made for you.
Be seeing you.
Luke slid the letter back into the envelope, and hid the letter under
the edge of his bed. He sighed and rolled over and stared out the window.
The letter worried him, he feared what was meant by this time he'd have
no choice. Ever since he got that letter he couldn't stop thinking about
the one choice he had made that haunted him. The one choice that had the
highest consequences.
Luke fell into a deep sleep then he started to have a dream,
much like the one that had haunted him all those years ago.
Luke,
You think you never have to face the consequences of the choice you made. You made the wrong choice. So your choice has been revoked.
Be seeing you
Luke slid the letter back in the envelope, then put it in the pocket
of his jean jacket. This letter bothered him even more then the last letter
had. This letter gave him a feeling of dread, but he wasn't sure why.
The words seemed harsher and colder and some how just seemed more threatening
in some way. He wasn't sure why he felt this way, it was just something
about the line ‘your choice has been revoked.' Luke wondered what these
letters meant and who was sending them. Luke just tried to ignore
the bad feeling and headed towards Cooter's.
Meanwhile, the general store didn't have the
supplies they needed so Bo headed towards Cooter's. As he walked past one
of the alleys, someone grabbed him from behind and pulled him into the
alley. Before he had time to react the person slipped a chloroform soaked
cloth over his mouth and nose. Bo struggled to get away but the fumes were
already starting to over take him. He tried to remain awake but could feel
darkness starting to cloak his mind. He tried to fight it but his attempts
were in vain. His mind was consumed by the darkness and he slumped forward
limply.
The person who grabbed Bo smiled darkly when
he felt Bo's body go limp. He carried Bo over to his blue Sedan and put
him in the back seat, and covered Bo's unconscious body with a blanket.
He brushed back his long brown bangs, and headed towards the General Lee
to leave a note for Luke.
Luke reached Cooter's garage, he tried to
hide how upset the letter had made him.
"Hey Cooter."
"Hey Lukas. Where's Bo?"
"Ain't he here already? He was just stopping
at the store." Luke said.
"Maybe he is still there." Cooter said.
"Yeah maybe."
They went to check. The clerk at the store said Bo left about five
minutes ago. Luke and Cooter headed back towards Cooter's garage.
"Maybe he ran into that old friend of y'alls
that was at the garage this morning looking for ya'll." Cooter said.
"What friend?" Luke asked, there was a note
of concern in his voice.
"Come to think of it I never got his name.
But he was driving an blue Sedan. He had long brown hair, blue eyes. He
said he was a friend and ain't seen y'all in years."
"Trevor . . ." Luke said, his voice just barely
audible.
"Who's Trevor?" Cooter asked.
"A cousin." Luke replied.
Cooter looked confused. "I never knew y'all had a cousin named Trevor.
Where's he been hiding all these years?"
"It's a long story. I don't have time to explain
it all right now. I have to go find Bo." Luke said then rushed to where
they had parked the General.
Cooter just shook his head wondering what it was about Trevor that
had Luke so worked up, he headed back towards the garage.
Luke got into the General then noticed a envelope
sitting on the dashboard. He sat for a moment staring at the envelope with
dread, fearing what the letter inside would say. He finally picked up the
envelope. His hands were shaking as he took out the letter.
Luke,
Your choice has been revoked. If I were you would start to make funeral arrangements for your cousin because the next time you see him he will be dead. There is no need to rush really to be honest his death won't be anytime soon, first off I am going to put him through hell and then he can a slow death. This is the consequence of your choice.
So long
Luke dropped the letter. His whole body was slightly trembling. He took
a deep breath, he realized he had to keep it together. There was still
time to find and save Bo. He figured the best lead he had was to find that
blue Sedan, if he could find Trevor he would be able to find Bo. He couldn't
believe that Trevor was alive and that he was going to kill Bo for what
had happened so many years ago, something that wasn't even Bo's fault.
Trevor pulled the Sedan to a stop next to
a bush. He got out then uncovered another car, a red Roadrunner. He went
back to the Sedan and drug Bo's unconscious body out of the back seat and
put him in the backseat of the other car. He taped a note for Luke to the
windshield of the Sedan. Then got into the other car and drove off.
Luke didn't really know where to look first
to try to find Bo. He then spotted a blue Sedan along the side of the road.
He pulled the General to a stop in front of the car and got out. He noticed
a note tapped to the window with his name on it. He took the note and read
it:
Luke,
Was this car your big lead in trying to find me and Bo? Looks like your choice to follow this lead wasn't such a good choice. You just can't make choices, can you? What a shame of course you know this choice contributes to Bo's death. I am sure by now you know who I am, don't you, cousin. It was your choice all those years ago that means Bo's death now. You should've saved me then, not him, he should've died so I am correcting that mistake.
So long
Luke dropped to ground and leaned against the car, clutching the note
tight in his hand. He tried to think of what to do to find and save Bo,
but couldn't think of anything. He sat staring at the note, trying to think
of what to do.
Meanwhile, Cooter was worried about Bo and
was wondering why Luke acted so strange when he said about Trevor. He tried
to reach the Dukes' on the CB, but with no luck so he drove out to the
farm. Jesse was just coming in from the field an Daisy was just finishing
hanging the laundry. Cooter told them about what happened.
"Who is Trevor anyway?" Cooter asked.
"Are you sure Luke said Trevor?" Daisy asked.
"Trevor was killed three months before I even came here to live."
"I am sure he said Trevor."
They went inside and sat down at the kitchen table.
"Trevor was Luke's age. He was killed when
he was eight." Jesse said.
Then he told Cooter the whole story about what had happened.
"I never knew about Trevor." Cooter said.
"The boys don't ever talk about him, it took
them both quite a bit of time to get over his death, even though they weren't
that close, his death still haunted both them." Jesse said.
"That is too bad. So why would Luke think
this whole thing now has to do with Trevor?"
Just as Cooter asked that question Luke came in through the door.
"I'll tell you why." Luke said and tossed
the notes he had just got on to the table. Then he told them about the
other letter and about thinking he saw Trevor earlier.
"The last note I got that I found on that
car proves that it is Trevor." Luke said.
"How can he be alive . . . why would he be
doing this?" Jesse said unable to believe what he was hearing.
"I don't know how he is alive but I think
he is doing all this for revenge, because I didn't get him out of that
mine first. I chose to save Bo." Luke said.
"What are we gonna do? We have to find Bo.
If we don't . . ." Daisy started to say but her voice trailed off, she
was unable to say the words to finish the sentence.
"We just have to split up and turn the county
inside out till we find him." Luke said.
"Maybe we should get Rosco to help." Jesse
said.
"What help would he be?" Daisy said.
"Uncle Jesse is right we need all the help
the we can get." Luke said.
Then they left to head for Hazzard to tell Rosco about what had happened.
Bo slowly started to wake up, his head was
throbbing he tried to move but found himself unable to. He was tied by
his hands and suspended about two feet from the ground. There was a bright
light which burned his eyes as he tired to adjust to the light. His whole
body was dully aching. He became dimly aware of someone else with him.
Though he wasn't sure who it was. He didn't know where he was, the air
was damp and musty smelling. His eyes were finally adjusting the light.
He looked around the best he could and found that he was in a mine shaft.
Trevor saw Bo starting to move and walked over and stood in front
of him.
"Well look who woke up, about time." he said.
Bo stared at Trevor unable to believe what he was seeing. "Trevor?
But you . . ."
"Died. I know that is what all you think,
but I am very much alive."
"But how? That mine completely collapsed."
Bo said.
"Yes but I fell into an unground river and
was swept away. Some people found me and raised me. Though not as a son
but as a servant." Trevor said.
Bo didn't know what to say he was shocked that Trevor was still alive.
"What do you want? Why are you doing this?" Bo finally managed to ask.
"Revenge." Trevor said.
"Revenge for what?" Bo asked.
"Revenge because Luke chose to save you and
not me. My life was hell when you had a perfect life." Trevor said angrily.
"Sorry you had such a harsh life but it isn't
my fault or Luke's" Bo said.
"Yes it is. Luke chose to save you. Why should
you have been allowed to live and have a perfect life and not me. What
makes you so special?"
Bo didn't know how to answer, it was something he had often wondered
himself, why he got to live and Trevor died.
"You can't answer that can you cause you know
you had no more right then me to live. Why did Luke chose you over me?"
"I don't know." Bo said.
"You two always got a long better and excluded
me from everything." Trevor said.
"That is not true. You always chose to be
by yourself."
"Uncle Jesse always loved you two more then
me."
"That ain't true." Bo said.
"I didn't ask for your opinion." Trevor side
and hit Bo across the face.
Bo flinched at the pain.
"Do you think Luke ever regrets his choice?"
Trevor asked.
"What do you mean?" Bo asked.
"I mean regrets choosing to save you and not
me, choosing your life over mine. Do you think he ever wishes that I were
alive instead?"
Bo didn't reply. Trevor hit him hard in the stomach. Bo flinched and
gasped for breath.
"I asked you question. When I ask you something
you better damn well answer it." Trevor said crossly.
"I don't know." Bo said.
Bo started to wonder if Trevor was right and if Luke ever did regret
saving his life over Trevor's.
Trevor walked away leaving Bo just hanging there.
Bo started to think back to about the
accident. He still couldn't really remember what had happened. The doctor's
said that was from the head injury they figured he hit his head as the
mine had started to caved in on him. After the accident he blamed himself
for what had happened since he had gone in, even though Luke was saying
they shouldn't. He wanted to prove that he was brave by going into the
mine. He often wondered if Luke regretted saving his life and wished he
had saved Trevor instead, but he never could ask Luke.
Trevor walked back over and stood in front
of Bo. He smiled evilly as he slid on a pair of brass knuckles. Bo tried
to struggle to free himself from the ropes around his wrists, the ropes
cut deeper into his wrists. He could feel blood starting to slowly drip
down his wrists from the cuts caused by the ropes. Bo stopped struggling,
he realized the more he struggled the tighter the ropes got.
"You may as well not bother to try to get
away, because there is no chance that you will escape me. And if you are
think that Luke is going to come save you, you may as well forget
that to, he isn't going to come save you. He don't care, he knows this
is right, that it is the right decision, the life he should've chosen all
those years ago." Trevor said nastily.
"That is not true." Bo said.
Trevor punched Bo hard in the stomach. "Don't speak unless I ask for
you to speak."
Bo gasped to catch his breath and just stared at Trevor. He couldn't
believe that Trevor was alive or what was happening. He had never gotten
along with Trevor, Trevor had always been nasty, but never this nasty.
"What's the matter poor baby, can't handle
a little pain?" Trevor said then hit Bo across the face.
Bo flinched at the pain.
"You haven't even begun to know what pain
really is yet. I promise you will suffer true pain before you die. You
will suffer for your life having been chosen. You will suffer for my pain."
Trevor said then hit Bo in the head, then twice in the ribs.
Bo flinched at the pain and gasped to try to catch his breath. He tried
to fight off the darkness that he could feel once again trying to over
take his mind. Trevor grabbed the back of Bo's hair and jerked his head
up, and stared coldly at him. Bo glared back at him.
"You ain't gonna get away with this." Bo said.
"Oh really? And who is going stop me? You
think that Luke is going come and save you again is that it? Well let me
tell you he won't. He knows he should've let you die all those years ago."
Trevor said then hit Bo across the head twice.
Darkness once again consumed Bo's mind, his body went limp as he drifted
in unconsciousness again.
The Dukes and Cooter walked into the Sheriff's
office. Rosco was sitting at his desk brushing Flash. He looked up as the
Dukes walked.
"Oh what do you Dukes want?" he asked.
"Bo is in danger." Jesse said.
"Oh, oh that is terrible." Rosco said sincerely.
"What happened?"
Boss J.D. Hogg heard the Dukes and came out of his office. "What's
goin on in here? What do you Dukes want?"
"Bo is in danger and we want Rosco's help
in finding him, before . . ." Jesse's voice trailed off. He found himself
unable to sat what the consequences to Bo would be if they failed to find
him in time.
"Before what?" Boss asked.
"Before it is too late and he is dead." Luke
said.
"Oh." Boss said. He never lost no love for
the Duke boys, but he didn't want any harm to come to them either. "What
happened?"
"It is kind of a long story. But do you remember
Trevor?" Jesse asked.
"Oh yes, that poor boy such a shame what happened."
Boss said.
"Well somehow he survived all that and he
is back." Jesse said.
"Oh that's great. We all thought he was dead
when that mine caved in." Rosco said.
"No it is not great. He is back and looking
for revenge, he is going to kill Bo." Jesse said.
"Cause of my choice." Luke added softly.
"Now Luke it ain't your fault. You made the
choice you had to. If it wasn't for you Bo would've died." Jesse said.
"Might now." Luke said, his voice just barely
audible.
"Are you sure it is Trevor?" Rosco asked.
"Yeah he sent some letters to Luke, he has
made sure that Luke knows." Jesse said.
"Look we are wasting time, we should be out
looking for Bo." Luke said impatiently. "So are you gonna help us find
Bo or not?"
"Of course I'm gonna help. I'll call Enos
and have him start looking to." Rosco said.
"I'll help as well don't want nothing to happen
to that poor boy." Boss said.
"Thank you J.D., Rosco." Jesse said.
Then the Dukes and Cooter left to split up to search for Bo.
"I sure hope that nothing happens to Bo."
Rosco said.
"Yeah that would be a shame. I can't believe
though that little Trevor is alive and now has came back to kill Bo. I
mean a Duke wanting to kill a Duke." Boss said.
"Yeah that is sure strange." Rosco said.
"I sure hope that we find him. I remember he almost died to when that mine
caved in."
"Yeah poor boy was in a comma for almost a
week."
Rosco picked up the CB. "Enos you got your ears on?"
"This heres Enos." Enos said.
"Enos I want you to get out and help the Dukes
look for Bo." Rosco said.
"Why is he missing?" Enos asked.
"Of course you dipstick that is why I want
you to help them find him before it is too late." Rosco said.
"Too late for what?" Enos questioned.
"Too late for Bo." Rosco replied, starting
to become annoyed with Enos's constant questions.
"Why would it be too late for Bo?" Enos asked.
"Cause you dumb dipstick if we don't find
him soon Trevor Duke is gonna kill him."
"That's terrible." Enos said becoming alarmed
about Bo's safety. "Who is Trevor Duke?"
"He is their cousin, he's Luke's age." Rosco
said.
"I never knew that they had a cousin named
Trevor." Enos said.
"Oh Enos just forget about it, it's a long
story. Just get out there and start searching for Bo." Rosco said.
"Yes sir, I'm gone." Enos said.
Boss and Rosco then left the Sheriff's department to aid in the search
for Bo.
A couple hours later it started to grow dark,
so the search was called off until morning. Since it would be too dark
soon to see anything and they could easily miss a clue to where Trevor
was holding Bo. The Dukes sat around the kitchen table looking at a map
of Hazzard and marking off everywhere that had been searched.
"I still say that we should still be out there
looking for Bo. We don't have time to waste, we have to find him soon or
he'll be dead." Luke said.
"Luke it is too dark we could over look clues
to help us find Bo and we all need some rest. We'll start to search again
first thing in the morning." Jesse said.
"What if Bo don't have that long?" Luke questioned.
Jesse and Daisy just looked at him not responding. They both knew that
this was all very hard on Luke.
Finally Jesse spoke. "We just have to keep the faith that Bo will be
okay. We will start to search more tomorrow. This is all the places we
have searched," he said motioning to the map on the table. "There isn't
too many more places that Trevor could be hiding."
"That is if he stayed in Hazzard." Luke said.
Daisy got up and went to bed. Then Jesse stood up and started to walk
out of the kitchen. Then he stopped in the doorway and turned back to face
Luke.
"Don't worry Luke, we will find Bo and he
will be okay." he said then turned and left the kitchen.
Luke stood up from the table and went to his
and Bo's bedroom. He laid down, on his bed and stared over at Bo's empty
bed. He started to miss Bo even more and became even more concerned for
his safety, he didn't know what he'd do if anything happened to Bo. He
realized there was no way that he'd get any sleep so he went back to the
kitchen. He sat at the table drinking coffee and staring at the map trying
to think of where Trevor was hiding.
Bo started to wake up. He for a moment couldn't
think of where he was, then remember where he was and what was happening.
"Well look who woke up again." Trevor said
walking over and standing in front of Bo.
"You ain't gonna get away with this." Bo said.
Trevor hit Bo across the face. "You were not asked to speak. I will
get away with this because nobody cares that you are missing. Nobody is
looking for you." Trevor said.
"I don't believe you."
Trevor hit Bo across the face again. "You are just too stupid to accept
the truth aren't you? Nobody is looking for you they don't care that you
will die, especially Luke. Luke hates you. He resents you for the choice
you forced him to make all those years ago."
Bo just glared at Trevor.
"It is the truth. Don't you think Luke ever
wishes he chose my life instead. Don't you think Luke ever regrets his
choice? Don't you think that he regrets choosing to save you and not me,
choosing your life over mine."
Bo didn't respond.
"Well I'll tell you the answer. Luke don't
care about you he is going to let you die this time, because he wishes
that is what he did all those years ago. He regrets having saved your life
over mine."
Bo tried to ignore what Trevor was saying, but he was so tired and
weak that his mind was slowly starting to believe what Trevor was saying.
"It's truth cousin. Luke hates you think about
it, you know it is the truth. He hates you because of the choice you forced
him to make. You are the one that snuck into that mine, it is your fault
we were in their when it crashed. Luke got you cause you couldn't keep
yourself out of trouble and you were younger, still can't. Uncle
Jesse always told us we had to look out for you because you were so much
younger. Luke resents having to take responsibility for a little brat who
couldn't keep himself out trouble if his life depended on it. You have
always been an annoyance to him he wishes that he let you die, which is
why he'll let you die now."
That night slowly passed, Trevor kept Bo awake
all night telling him the same stuff over and over again. Bo tired to ignore
what he was saying and try to hold on to what he believed to be the truth.
However as the hours slowly passed a combination of exhaustion and pain
weakened Bo's mind and Trevor's brainwashing slowly started to take it's
effect on his mind. By the crack of dawn Bo believed everything that Trevor
was telling him. Bo hung limply staring at the ground. Trevor laughed and
walked off. He could tell that he had destroyed Bo's spirit and determination
and figured it wouldn't take long to finish crushing Bo.
Jesse woke up shortly after the crack of dawn,
he walked out to the kitchen, he saw Luke sitting at the table staring
at the map of Hazzard
"Good morning Luke." Jesse said.
"What's so good about it?" Luke mumbled.
"How long have you been up?" Jesse asked as
he poured himself a cup of coffee.
"All night." Luke replied.
"Oh." Jesse said.
"I couldn't exactly sleep, not with Bo missing."
Luke said.
"Luke, we are going to find Bo." Jesse said.
"How can you be so sure? For all we know Bo
could already be dead." Luke said.
"Don't be talking like that Luke." Jesse said.
"Why not? It is the truth, Bo could be dead
already."
"Luke just calm down."
"Calm down. Bo is missing and could be dead.
Trevor wasn't killed in that mine all those years ago and now he has came
back wanting revenge and he is gonna kill Bo. It is my fault, I should
have seen what was coming and been able to keep Bo safe. And you are telling
me to calm down, don't you even care?"
"Of course I care Luke, but getting all upset
won't help. We just have to find Bo. You should try to get some sleep before
going out and looking for Bo." Jesse said.
"There is no time to sleep. Bo's life is in
danger." Luke said.
"Luke just get some sleep then you can go
out and look for Bo." Jesse said sternly.
"Don't tell me what to do." Luke said, then
throw his coffee cup against the wall. It shattered, and tiny shards of
glass fell to the floor. "I should've been looking out for Bo. It
is my responsibility to take care of Bo. He is my younger cousin, it's
my resposnsibilty to look out for him and make sure that he don't get hurt.
I didn't do that, now Bo could die."
Before Jesse could respond to what Luke said, Luke stormed out of the
house, slamming the door behind himself. Jesse heard the General's engine
start up and then heard the car speeding away from the farm.
Daisy had woke up when she heard Luke yelling.
She stood in the doorway to the kitchen. "What was all that about?"
"Luke is just upset. He just worried about
Bo. He blames himself for what has happened. Just like he blamed himself
for the accident all those years ago." Jesse said, trying hard to hold
his tears.
Jesse started to clean up the broken glass.
"I'll get that Uncle Jesse." Daisy said.
Jesse sat down at the kitchen table and Daisy cleaned up the broken
glass..
"Why was Luke so determined about Bo being
his responsibly?" Daisy asked as she sat down at the table.
"It is much the same thing that I told him
after the accident at the mine. I was exhausted and so upset by everything
that had happened and I lost my temper. I told Luke that it was his responsibility
to take care of Bo. I kind of blamed him for not doing that and causing
the accident. I never meant it, I regretted saying it after. Luke has always
taken what I said then seriously and has always felt responsibility for
taking care of Bo."
"Oh. This must all be so hard on Luke. I mean
with Trevor coming back and being so mean and all." Daisy said.
"Trevor was always mean. The boys didn't always
get along that well with him. They weren't that close to him. He was often
nasty, especially to Bo mainly because he was younger."
"So he was nothing like Bo and Luke?" Daisy
asked.
"He wasn't like them at all. He was very different.
Not just in that way, He didn't like any the same things really. The boys
were always into cars since the day they were born, Trevor never cared
about cars at all." Jesse said.
"I never knew that before. Trevor hardly even
sounds like a Duke." Daisy said.
"I think he just had more difficulty dealing
with the fact his parents were dead, and took that flustration out on everyone
else." Jesse said.
"Oh. We should get out and start looking for
Bo." Daisy said.
"Don't you want some breakfast?" Jesse asked.
"I am not really hungry. I don't think I could
eat anything, not with everything that is happening." Daisy responded.
Jesse nodded with agreement. Then they both got up and left the house.
Daisy got into her jeep, Dixie, and sped away from the farm. Jesse got
into his old, white pickup truck.
"Please let us find Bo soon, and let him be
okay. Please don't let anything happen to Bo, and help Luke deal with all
this for he is having such a hard time. And help Trevor see the error of
his ways." Jesse silently prayed, then started the truck and sped away
from the farm.
Luke drove around the back roads, not really
paying too close attention to where he was going, he was consumed by thoughts
of everything that was happening. He was having trouble believing that
Trevor was alive. For so many years he had blamed himself for Trevor's
death, not being able to save him. He had felt so responsible for what
had happened. Though he had never regretted the choice that he had made,
to save Bo's life, he couldn't imagine his life without Bo around. He didn't
know what he'd do if he lost Bo now. Bo was his best friend and more like
a brother then a cousin. Luke pulled the General to a stop by Sunset Pond.
He sat starring out across the water. The early morning sun glistened on
the waters surface, the water gently rippled from the breeze. As Luke sat
staring out at the pond his mind started to drift back in time to a memory
that happened before the accident at the mine. He was only six and Bo was
four. A memory of what Trevor was like most the time, one of the reason
neither him or Bo were ever close to Trevor.
