Where The Vampires Roam

You come out at night that's when the energy comes and the dark side's light and the vampires roam”- ‘Building A Mystery’, by Sarah Mclachlan.

Bo sat in shade of a large old oak tree, out by sunset pond. It was a quiet and peaceful day. Luke was visiting a Marine buddy in Atlanta, Daisy had went on a week long shopping trip in New Orleans with Lulu Hogg, and wouldn’t be back for a few days, and Jesse was off visiting an old friend. Bo was the only Duke in Hazzard, with nothing better to do then go fishing. He laid down and looked up at the sky, he watched the fluffy white clouds as they billowed past over head. Sunlight gently filtered through the leaves of the trees, casting shadows on the ground on over Bo. He closed his eyes and drifted into a light sleep, feeling the warmth of the sun on his face, thinking to himself that on such a beautiful day nothing in the world could go wrong. Bo woke up when he felt a tug on the fishing line, he sat up and reeled the line in to see what he had caught. On the end of the line was a medium sized lake trout. It’s silvery body twisting and turning on the end of the line. Tiny of droplets of water fell from the fish, glistening in the sunlight before the splashed down in the pond. Bo looked the fish over and decided it was big enough to have for dinner, since he was the only one home.
After dinner Bo finished up doing the chores Jesse had asked him to do while everyone was away. He finished just as the sun was starting to set. It was one of the most beautiful sunsets that Bo could remember to see, the sky had an almost golden look. Bo decided to go to the Boar’s Nest, he figured it would be a couple hours yet until either Luke or Jesse returned to the farmhouse.
The Boar’s Nest wasn’t too bust considering it was still early and a Wednesday. Bo was there for about forty minutes when he noticed a girl he had never seen around before. He guessed her age to be just a few years older then himself, perhaps around Luke’s age. Bo was twenty-two and Luke was twenty-five. She had long fiery red hair that was pulled to one side in a French braid and slate grey eyes. She noticed Bo looking at her and smiled and approached the table Bo was sitting at. She guessed that Bo was in his early twenties, he looked quite muscular and had a soft golden tan, from hours of being out in the hot Georgia sun.
“Mind if I sit down?” She asked, her voice soft and sweet.
“No, not all. You must be new around her cause I sure never remember seeing you around before.” Bo said. “What is you name?”
“I am Ariana Vetink. Yes I am new here.” Ariana said.
“Welcome to Hazzard County Ariana.” Bo said and shook her hand as she sat down. “I am Bo Duke.”
    “Hello Bo.” Ariana said.
Bo noticed that she looked quite pale, but didn’t think too much about it.
They sat and talked for a few minutes. She stared deeply into Bo’s dark blue eyes, and he felt himself become lost in her eyes. He felt as though they were the only two in the room, he wasn’t aware of anyone else in the Boar’s Nest. Or for that matter that they were in the Boar’s nest. He stared deeply into her eyes, only seeing her. She ran her fingers over the side of Bo’s face and through his thick blonde hair, being careful not to scratch him with her long fingernails. She took Bo’s hand and held it between hers, and leaned forward.
“Come with me my sweet.” Ariana soft whispered into Bo’s ear.
Bo said nothing and just allowed her to lead him for the Boar’s Nest, willing to allow her to led him anywhere.
Ariana took Bo to a small house that sat nestled in the woods near the Hazzard and Chickasaw county line. The windows of the house were tightly board shut. They stopped just inside the doorway, the light of the moon shone through the open door.       Ariana lit a candle that was sitting on a table by the door. She held the candle in one hand and Bo’s hand in the other. She led him through the dark house, with only the tiny bit of light from the candle to see by. Bo’s thoughts seemed to be lost in a heavy fog, and he was only dimly aware of what was even happening. She led him down a flight of stairs to the basement, and to a large room. She set the candle down and then her and Bo sat down on a bed. Dozens of candles in the room mysteriously lit themselves. She smiled at Bo as she ran her fingers through his hair. Bo’s eyes seemed to cloud over as Ariana stared into them. Bo smiled allowing himself to be lost in her eyes. She her head forward and kissed Bo on the lips, a kiss he returned in kind. She could taste his innocence  and laughed of how easily she had been able to trick him. Though before she had only planned to drink his blood she knew now that she would bring him across. She moved her head to start to kiss Bo’s neck, then her face changed suddenly, becoming drawn with deep lines, and an evil hue. Her eyes turned to a deep yellowish green shade. She opened her mouth wide to reveal her two long fangs. She hissed slightly then sank her fangs into Bo’s neck. The second her fangs entered Bo’s neck, the cloud lifted from Bo’s mind. He gave a small shocked cry of pain. He tried to jerk his head away but she held him firmly. Bo could barely even remember leaving the Boar’s Nest. He couldn’t believe this was happening, he had never believed in vampires before, but obviously he was wrong. Ariana felt Bo’s body growing weak from the blood loss, and she stopped. She pulled away and smiled down at him, she gently pulled him to a sitting position. Bo stared at her with frightened eyes. She cut her right wrist, with one of her long fingernails, her smile never leaving her face. Bo stared at the blood for a moment, his mind screamed for him to run but he couldn’t find the strength to even move. Ariana closed her hands around the back of his neck, and pressed his lips against the blood. Bo felt the blood flow into his mouth and started to drink thirstily at it. After a moment she pulled his head away and smiled. The ritual was complete, Bo had been brought across. She had drank his blood and he drank hers, Bo was now a vampire. His face and eyes changed just as hers had. She smiled as she ran her hand along his face.
“My sweet, you are now a soulless creature of the night, just as I am. I will take you to the Master now. You are the newest child of his fold Bo.” Ariana said softly. “How do you feel?”
    “Hungry.” Bo replied.
“You need to feed. You will after you meet the Master.” Ariana said.
Jesse arrived back at the farmhouse, finding it empty. He figured that Bo had got bored and went to the Boar’s Nest. Thinking nothing further about it, he made himself a cup of coffee and sat down on the couch. Luke arrived home several minutes.
“Hey Luke.” Jesse said as Luke walked into the front room.
“Hey Uncle Jesse.” Luke said. “Where’s Bo?”
“I don’t know he was gone when I got back here I figure he got bored being here alone all day and went to the Boar’s Nest.” Jesse said.
“Oh.” Luke said, not wanting to tell Jesse he had been having a really bad feeling about for the past couple hours. “I think I’ll go see if he is there.”
“Okay. Just don’t be out to late, there is a lot of work to be done tomorrow.” Jesse said.
     “Yes sir.” Luke said.
Luke took the pickup to the Boar’s Nest, since he had to put gas in the car he had borrowed from Cooter. He noticed the General was parked to one side in the parking lot, and pulled to a stop next to it. He walked into the Boar’s Nest and looked around for Bo, seeing no sign of him, in the still nearly deserted bar. He walked over to Karen who was waiteressing.
“Hey there Luke.” Karen said sweetly, batting her eyelashes at him, though Luke didn’t seem to notice her attempts to flirt with him.
“Have you seen Bo?” Luke asked.
Karen shook her head. “No not in the past couple hours . . . not since he left that girl.”
“Who’d he leave with?” Luke asked.
Karen shrugged. “I don’t know. I ain’t never seen her around before.”
     “Thanks.” Luke said.
“Any old time Luke.” Karen said.
Luke turned and left the Boar’s Nest. Luke went back to the Duke farm to tell Jesse what he had found out.
Jesse noticed the upset look on Luke’s face.
     “What’s wrong?’ Jesse asked.
“Bo was there but left a couple hours ago with some strange girl . . . but the General was still parked out front.” Luke said.
Jesse frowned at hearing the news, and started to become concerned about Bo.
“Bo wouldn’t just leave the General like that.” Luke said.
“I know that. Why don’t we take the pick up to the Boar’s Nest and get the General then we can look around some for him.” Jesse said.
Luke nodded, his feeling of worry had increased. He prayed that they found Bo and that all his worrying was for nothing. About half and hour later Jesse and Luke returned to the farm, hoping that while they were out looking Bo had came back home. They were disappointed to find that he hadn’t. They had no idea where to look next and figured to go to Rosco if Bo still hadn’t shown up come morning.
Ariana led Bo through the graveyard and to the large old mausoleum that sat on the far west side. They had both long since returned to look like their human form.  They walked into the dark room of the mausoleum. Being vampires they were able to see perfectly well in the dark. Ariana moved a stone slab that opened to a tunnel. They walked down the tunnel that led to a large cavern that ran below the graveyard. It was lit by candles. Bo noticed someone on the far side of the cavern, he could sense the aura of power that surrounded the stranger and knew it was the master.
The Master smiled as Ariana entered with the newest member of their fold. The Master was eight hundred seventy-five years old. He had no human form he was just a pure vampire. His skin was pale and white. His face was deeply drawn with lines and his eyes were red. His ears were pointed much like bat ears. His fingers were long and bony with long jagged nails at the ends. His clothing was old fashioned. His clothes were all black.  The shirt collar went half way up his neck, and was tight against his skin. Small buttons ran down the front of it. Both the shirt and the pants looked as though they were made of leather. Ariana and Bo walked over to him and stood in front of him. Ariana slightly bowed her head, as he looked Bo over.
“You have made a good choice Ariana. He is young and strong. A perfect addition to our fold.” The Master said.
“Thank you Master.” Ariana said and backed away.
The Master placed his cold, white hand against the side of Bo’s face and gazed deeply into his eyes.
“Swear you loyalty to me child.” The Master said.
“I swear Master. I will do as you command.” Bo said.
The Master smiled. Bo bowed down before him, his head hung down. The Master placed his hand on the top of Bo’s head.
“What is your name?” The Master asked.
     “Bo Duke.”
The Master tipped Bo’s head back so the young man was looking up at him, and he stared into Bo’s emotionless blue eyes.
“You now roam with the vampires.” The Master said. “Go find food you need blood to gain your strength. Drink well child.” Bo nodded, and turned and left the cavern with Ariana.
Ariana and Bo went to the Boar’s Nest just at closing time. Karen was the last person to be leaving, Ariana figured that she would be easy picking for Bo’s first kill. She locked the door and turned to headed to her car. Karen felt a chill go down her spine and started to walk quicker towards her car. Bo suddenly appeared in front of her, Ariana  stood in the shadows concealed from Karen’s view.  Karen was startled by Bo’s sudden appearance and took a couple, startled, steps backwards. She looked to see who was there, the fear faded from her eyes when she saw Bo standing in front of her.
“Oh, Bo you scared me.” Karen said.
Bo didn’t say anything he just looked at her with what she thought appeared like hungry eyes. She smiled thinking that perhaps he was going to ask her out, she like  most every girl in Hazzard dreamed of going out with Bo or Luke Duke.
“Luke was here looking for you early.” Karen said.
“Good for him.” Bo said absently, and approached Karen, he stood mere inches in front of her.
He reached up and caressed the side of her face with his hand. She shivered, feeling how cold his touch was, but she didn’t pull away. Bo leaned forward and started to kiss her lips, she closed her eyes and returned his kiss. Bo started to move his lips down her neck, kissing every inch of her skin. Ariana smiled as she watched Bo prepare to make his first kill. Karen couldn’t see that Bo’s face had changed to his vampire form. Bo growled lowly and opened his mouth wide revealing his fangs. He hissed loudly and then sank his teeth into Karen’s neck. Karen gave a small surprised cry of pain. Bo felt her go limp in his arms, as she passed out. He drank her blood hungrily, until he drank every drop of her blood. Ariana stepped out from the shadows and smiled at Bo. He let go off Karen’s dead body, which slumped limply to the ground. Ariana stepped forward and lick the droplets of blood from Bo’s lips. He wrapped his arms around her, and she wrapped her arms around him. They locked in a passionate kiss, which lasted several moments. Ariana stepped back breaking off the kiss.
“It is time to return to The Master. You have fed and gained your strength my sweet, The Master will be pleased. You must do anything and everything to please The Master.” Ariana said.
Bo’s face returned to normal. “Of course I would do anything for The Master.”
Ariana smiled.  “Good. Now lets return home.”
Luke stepped out on the porch. He couldn’t fall asleep at all that night. Jesse had fallen asleep several hours ago as they waited to see if Bo to come home. Luke’s stomach was knotted with worry, about his youngest cousin’s disappearance. He had a dreadful feeling that if they didn’t get Bo back soon that they never would. He didn’t understand the feeling and that scared him even more. He just had the strongest gut feeling that Bo was in serious danger.
Jesse woke up shortly after sunrise. He walked out to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee when he noticed Luke standing on the front porch. He walked outside and joined him.
“Bo never came home last night . . . something has to be wrong Bo wouldn’t do something like this.” Luke said, turning to look at his uncle.
Jesse nodded in agreement. “We should go report to Rosco that Bo is missing.”
They  freshened up and then headed into town to the police station.
Rosco was talking to his hound dog, Flash, as he sorted through a pile of papers. He looked up when he heard the door open.
“What do you Dukes want?” Rosco asked, his voice sounding annoyed.
“Rosco this is urgent. Bo is missing.” Jesse said.
“Oh, that’s terrible.” Rosco said, his voice changing from being annoyed to being concerned. “How long as he been missing?”
“Since last night.” Jesse said, and then explained the situation to Rosco.
“I’ll call Enos and have him get out and look for Bo. Don’t you worry none we are highly trained officers of the law and we’ll find him.” Rosco said.
“Find who?” Boss asked as he came walking into the police station.
“Bo, he is missing.” Rosco said.
“Is that a fact?” Boss asked.
“Yeah that’s a fact Boss. He never came home last night, and I got a bad feeling that he is in serious danger.” Luke said.
Boss huffed. “This is probably some kind of Duke trick.”
Jesse narrowed his eyes at Boss. “This is no trick JD. My nephew is missing and could be in serious danger.”
Boss could tell by the tone of Jesse’s voice and look in his eyes that Bo was in fact missing, as much as he hated to admit it he knew that Jesse Duke would never lie.
“Well then, Rosco and Enos will help you to find him.” Boss said, and turned and walked into his office shutting the door behind himself.
The Dukes and Rosco left the police station. Rosco called Enos on the CB to look for Bo. The four of them started to search the hills for any sign of Bo.
Betty Ann was heading to the Boar’s Nest for her shift, and to open up. She noticed that Karen’s car was still parked in the parking lot. She looked puzzled at the car, knowing that Karen had the night shift and wouldn’t be there at this time of day. She shrugged thinking maybe she had car trouble and had to call her brother to give her a ride home. She parked her car and headed towards the Boar’s Nest. As she passed by Karen’s car, the sight she saw made her blood run cold. Karen was laying face down on the ground, obviously dead. Betty Ann’s face paled, and she screamed. Mr. Tompkins was passing by the Boar’s Nest when he heard Betty Ann scream. He stopped and rushed over to see what was wrong with the young girl.
“What is wrong?” Mr. Tompkins asked as he ran towards her.
Betty Ann couldn’t find her voice to speak, she only pointed at Karen’s dead body. Mr. Tompkins round the car and saw what she was pointing at. His face paled slightly. He led Betty Ann back over to her car. She sat down on the ground and leaned against her car. Mr. Tompkins grabbed the CB to call Rosco.
“This is Mr. Tompkins calling the sheriff. You out there?”
“This is Sheriff Rosco P Coltrane. What is you want?”
“Sheriff I think you had better to get the Boar’s Nest quick. There is a dead body.” Mr. Tompkins said.
Rosco rushed to the Boar’s Nest, as did Enos and the Dukes, fearing it was Bo that had been found dead.
Rosco walked slowly over to the dead body, afraid to approach it. Enos arrived moments after he had.
“Call the coroner.” Rosco called to Enos.
“Yes sir.” Enos said, doing as he had been ordered.
The Dukes pulled to a stop by Rosco’s patrol, car and rushed over to the scene.
“Is it . . .” Jesse started to ask.
“No. It is Karen Bronson.” Rosco said, knowing what Jesse was going to ask.
Luke walked over and looked at Karen. “I was just talking to her a couple of hours before the Boar’s Nest closed. How did she die?”
Rosco shrugged. “I don’t know.”
Jesse went over with Enos to talk to Betty Ann and Mr. Tompkins, and to help keep Betty Ann calm.
Luke helped Rosco roll her over. Neither noticed the two small puncture marks on her neck, as her hair covered them. They could see no sign of struggle of any sort.
“Maybe she knew her attacker.” Rosco said.
“That could be.” Luke said, he had seen dead bodies when he had gone to war and this just seemed so different.     “Something don’t seem right though. Her skin tone seems wrong, even for being dead. It is like she has no blood left in her.”
“Maybe it was a vampire.” Rosco said worriedly.
“There is no such thing as vampires.” Luke said.
Rosco then noticed the puncture marks on her neck. “See bite marks. It was a vampire.”
Luke shook his head. “There is no such thing. Maybe someone is out there running around thinking they are a vampire.”
“It was a vampire.” Rosco insisted.
Luke sighed. “Either way you have to find the person and stop them before they kill again.”
Jesse walked over and stood by Luke.
“You don’t think that whoever killed Karen could’ve killed Bo, do you?” Jesse asked.
“No. I just know that Bo is not dead.” Luke said.
Jesse nodded, he know that the boys were really close and seemed to have a sixth sense of when the other was in danger, and knew that would included something like knowing they were still alive.
The coroner came and took Karen’s body away. Rosco followed them to go and fill out all the police paperwork. He told Enos to continue helping the Dukes to look for Bo.
In a small cabin that lay nestled deep in the Hazzard swamp, an old man sat reading a large old book. His shoulder length silver grey hair, almost falling into his green eyes as he read slumped over the book. His clothes looked almost as old as he was. He wore a pair of black pants. He hard a dark brown jacket on, which he wore open over a long sleeved deep blue shirt. He wore a cross around his neck, which hung in plain view of his blue shirt. Suddenly he looked up from the book, his green eyes flashing with anger.
“They have rose again. They have escaped.”
He slammed the book shut, the slamming noise seeming to echo through the swamp. A loon that had been resting just outside the cabin, by the waters edge, woke up and gave a startled cry at the sound, and flew away. The old man cursed something under his breath and walked over to an old black trunk that sat on the far side of the cabin. He opened the lock and set it to one side. The old hinges of the trunk squeaked as it opened for the first time in many years. The trunk was filled with crosses, stakes, and bottles of holy water, along with assorted other items which where in small velvet pouches, and little boxes. He took a large old book, and dust off the thick layer of dust that covered it. The book was made of dark brown leather, its title etched on it in gold: Vampyer.
“I am Corik, vampire hunter.” He said closing his hand around the cross he wore, it flashed a light blue as he spoke. “I will rid this place of the evil that lurks beneath it. Rid it of the undead. I will hunt down and destroy all the vampires. I will not let the evil win. I will not allow it to take the lives of innocent people. I will not let the evil destroy the good.”
Corik then packed a cross, a few stakes and a couple bottles of holy water into a bag and headed off for Hazzard for the first time. He prayed that the vampires hadn’t taken any lives yet. Though something told him this would be one of the hardest battles that he had ever fought.
Corik arrived in Hazzard by five, he looked around the small town. He watched all the people walking up and down the streets, not knowing of the evil that had risen and that all their lives were in danger. Nobody paid any attention to the old man that was walking along the streets of Hazzard. They all continued on with their lives, ignoring the weird old man. Nobody seemed to notice how odd he was dressed, or pay attention to the large bag he was carrying. Although he didn’t much care for using a car, Corik knew it would be quicker to find the vampire's hideout with one. It wasn’t a big town, but there was a lot of countryside to search. He got a rental car from Boss Hogg’s lot and started to search the countryside. He knew he would most likely have to wait until dark for any signs of the vampires, but figured it would be a good idea to get the lay out of Hazzard County. He went to the graveyard and over to the mausoleum. He noticed it was old and run down. He walked around it and noticed on the far side, was the start of excavation work, perhaps to build another mausoleum Corik thought this might be how the vampires where able to rise again for the depths of the earth, though he wasn’t sure. He decided to search the rest of Hazzard for possible ways the vampires had risen.
By nine the Dukes and Enos had searched everywhere in Hazzard and there was still no sign of Bo. The search was called off for the night, as it was too dark and they could miss a clue as to Bo’s whereabouts. The three of them went into the police station to file an official missing person report. There had been a lot of paper work surrounding Karen’s death and Rosco was just getting back to the police station. He could tell by the looks on their faces that they had no look finding Bo. Enos sat and started to type out the report.
“Well no news is good news.” Enos said, trying to find the brighter side of not having found Bo.
“Yeah at least you didn’t find him dead somewheres killed by a vampire.” Rosco said.
“I don’t like not knowing. It is like he completely disappeared.” Jesse said.
Luke remained silent trying to think of anywhere that they missed searching. He knew Bo had to be around somewhere, he couldn’t just vanish.
In total there was ten vampires living below Hazzard, previously having been trapped and in a state of deep sleep. They were all preparing to go out and hunt. Except for The Master, one of his minion was bringing him his meal. Every vampire went on their own hunt alone. They were not yet aware of the Corik, the vampire hunters, presence.
Corik searched through the darkness for any signs of a vampire. He could sense vampires even when they were not in their vampire forms. He noticed one moving through the darkness. He quietly took a stake and approached it, hiding the stake behind his back. The vampire smiled, thinking that he had found his dinner.
“I am new around here, I was wondering if you could help me with something?” Corik asked as he approached the vampire.
“Yeah, what is it you need?” the vampire asked.
Corik stood inches in front of the vampire then with a lightening fast movement he raised the stake and plunged it into the vampires heart.
     “You can die.” Corik said.
The vampire stood with a shocked, pained expression for a moment before bursting into dust.
Deep in the catacombs The Master sensed that one of his minion had been killed. He growled deeply and cursed under his breath. His eyes flashed angrily. “So there is a vampire hunter in Hazzard.” He thought to himself. “No vampire hunter has ever been able to stop me. I have killed all those that dared to cross me.”
Jesse and Luke returned to the farm. They were just going to go inside when they heard someone come up behind them. They turned around and saw Bo standing there.
“Bo, where have you been?” Luke asked as he walked towards his cousin.
Bo didn’t respond he just stared coldly at Luke. As Luke got closer he noticed something different about Bo.
     “What’s wrong cousin?” Luke asked.
“Nothing is wrong.” Bo said. “Except that I am hungry.”
Luke looked puzzled for moment, then his expression turned to horror was he watched Bo change to his vampire form. Luke wanted to run but couldn’t move his legs. Jesse, who had been standing on the porch, watched what was happening with wide eyes. Luke tired to tell himself that he had to dreaming, there was no such thing as vampires. Bo suddenly lunched at Luke knocking him to the ground. Bo prepared to bite Luke and drink his blood.
Corik had been nearby the Dukes farmhouse and had sensed a vampire. He rushed into the yard and saw a vampire preparing to eat. He tackled Bo off of Luke. Corik was surprised at how quickly the vampire got out of his hold. He stood and looked the vampire over a minute, trying to guess how old the vampire was. He had the feeling that this was only a newly created vampire. He quickly took out one of his stakes and tackled Bo. He knocked him to the ground and prepared to drive the stake through Bo’s heart.
Luke had got back to his feet and saw what was happening.
“No!” Luke yelled, tackling Corik off of Bo. “I will not let you kill my cousin.”
Bo quickly vanished into the night. Corik stood up and faced Luke and Jesse, who had got off the porch and walked over.
“Why did you save that vampire?” Corik asked.
“He is my cousin and I will not let you kill him . . . even if you claim that he is a vampire.” Luke said.
“How long has he been a vampire?” Corik asked.
“He just went missing last night. Before that he was fine.” Jesse said.
“Bo is not evil. I am not going to let you kill him.” Luke said.
“I am sorry but your cousin is not the person you remember. He is a vampire. He has no soul and a demon inhabits his body. When one becomes a vampire, one's body is taken over by a demon, and one becomes one without conscience, or remorse. He is not the person you remember.” Corik said.
“There is no such thing as vampires.” Luke said.
“Yes there is, you just seen one for yourself. I am Corik, and I am a vampire hunter.”
Jesse extended his hand to shake Corik’s. “I am Jesse Duke and this is my nephew Luke. The other one was Bo. Why don’t you come inside and tell us more about what is going on.”
Corik thought about for a moment and then nodded. They three of them went inside. Luke kept watching Corik suspiciously.
“How did Bo become a vampire?” Jesse asked.
“It is a ritual that involves a vampire sucking a person’s blood and then that person sucking the vampire’s blood.” Corik said.
“The woman that Karen said Bo left with then must have been a vampire. But she didn’t say what the girl looked like and . .  .” Luke said his voice trailed off momentarily. “She was found dead this morning, drained of blood with two puncture wounds in her neck.”
“Since when has there been vampires in Hazzard?” Jesse asked. “There has never been anything like this around before.”
“Vampires have been around for a long time. I assume you don’t know the truth about vampires.” Corik said, though not unkindly. He was used to everyone not believing in vampires. “Never believed that vampires existed.” Luke said.
“Most people don’t believe in them. They don’t want to believe in creatures of the night and deny their existence. They don’t want to believe there are really creatures that go bump in the night and suck their blood.” Corik said. “This world is older than you know, and contrary to popular  mythology, it did not begin as a paradise. For untold eons, Demons walked the earth; made it their home -- their Hell. In time they lost their hold on this reality, and the way was
made for the mortal animals, for Man. What remains of the Old Ones are vestiges: certain
magicks, certain creatures, vampires are among those.”
“So they have been in Hazzard all this time, and we just didn’t know it?” Jesse asked.
“Yes and no. You see nearly three hundred years ago there was a great earthquake and it trapped many demons below the Earth’s surface. The vampires that once resided in what you now call Hazzard County, where trapped below the town in catacombs that run beneath most of the town.” Corik said. “I have came to kill all the vampires send them back to hell.”
“You can’t kill Bo.” Luke said firmly.
Jesse gave Luke a look to be silent. “Is there a way to save Bo?”
Corik thought about it for a moment and then nodded. “Yes. But it is very hard. I have never attempted it before so I don’t know if I could do it.”
“You have to try.” Jesse said.
“You do understand it would be hard on Bo as well, and might not succeed even?” Corik asked.
“Yes. But I feel it is a chance that must be taken.” Jesse said.
Corik nodded. “You are good people. I can see how much you care about Bo.”
“So you will help us to save Bo?” Jesse asked.
“Yes. I will help you to try and save him.” Corik said. “First we must find him again. I doubt we will be able to till tomorrow night.”
“Then what?” Luke asked, sceptical of Corik’s intentions.
“We must capture him. I will be able to do the ritual at my cabin. I will set it up during the day and come back here before nightfall to help you find him.” Corik said. “This is only to give him back his soul. He will still be a vampire.”
Luke narrowed his eyes at Corik. “You said this would save Bo.”
“It will give him his soul back, making him the person you know. It might be hard to regain his humanity. For that the head vampire has to be slain.” Corik said.
     “The head vampire?” Jesse asked.
“Yes The Master, lives beneath Hazzard. He is pure vampire, never was human. No hunter has ever been able to kill him. He is extremely powerful. I can only hope that I am able to defeat him.” Corik said.
“And if you don’t Bo will always be a vampire.” Luke said.
“Unless someone else defeats The Master.” Corik said. “I need all the help I can get to kill The Master.”
“I will help you kill The Master if that is what it takes to make Bo human again.” Luke said.
A couple hours later Jesse went to bed and Luke stayed up to talk to Corik. Sunrise was only two hours away.
“Why do you hunt vampires?” Luke asked.
“Because I am a vampire hunter.” Corik said.
“What is a vampire hunter?” Luke asked.
“A vampire hunter is in short a person who hunts vampires. It has been passed down through the generations of my family. We can sense vampires, and have the strength to be able to battle them. Anyone can kill a vampire, but vampire hunters just have an advantage. It is our destiny to hunt and destroy vampires. We have advanced skills and knowledge of how to kill vampires.” Corik said.
“If all you do is kill vampires then why are you willing to help us save Bo?” Luke asked.
“I am not a bad person. I can tell you care about your cousin, and him being a vampire doesn’t change that. I want to help you, from what you say he was a good person before. He is innocent really I don’t believe he choose to become a vampire. I defend those that are innocent I don’t allow the vampires to destroy the lives of innocent people.” Corik said.
“Thank you for be willing to help us.” Luke said.
Corik nodded. “I do understand your pain. I know it hard to lose those that you love, and the willingness to do anything possible to save them.”
Corik and Luke talked until the sun started to rise over the distant horizon. Corik then got up to leave.
“You need to rest so that you will have your strength for tonight.” Corik said.
“I doubt that I can sleep I am too worried about Bo.” Luke said.
“You have to get sleep so that you will be able to save Bo.” Corik said.
“When will you come back here?” Luke asked.
“Just before the sun sets.” Corik said. “I have to set everything up for the ritual of soul resurrection, and then get a few hours of sleep.”
Corik left and then Luke went to get some sleep.
The remaining vampires returned to the catacombs. The Master was sitting waiting for them to return. His eyes blazed with anger, knowing there was a vampire hunter in Hazzard and one of his minions had been killed. One of the vampire’s return with a meal for The Master. He drug the girl behind him, she was too afraid even struggle or scream any longer. She was from Chickasaw County. The Master grabbed the girl and pulled her close to his body. He smiled and then sank his fangs into her neck. The girl gave a cry of pain and then was silent as her life was drained from her body. The Master drank every drop of blood from her, and licked his lips cleaned. He tossed her dead body to one side, then looked at the rest of the vampires.
“There is a vampire hunter trying to seek us out and kill us. I sensed him when he killed Urick.” The Master said. “I want him found and killed.”
Each vampire went their own way into the catacombs. The Master approached Bo. Bo turned to face The Master. The Master reached out with one hand, to hold the back of Bo’s head.
“What did you do last night?” The Master asked.
“I went and did like you said, hunted. I went to where I used to live, I was going to kill my old family . . .” Bo said, his voice trailed off.
“But?” The Master asked, tightening his hold.
“But someone showed up and stopped me from killing them.” Bo said.
“Why didn’t you tell me before?” The Master asked.
“I didn’t think about it. I didn’t think that it was important.” Bo said.
“The person that stopped you from killing your family was no doubt that hunter. You should’ve told me sooner.” The Master said angrily.
     “I am sorry.” Bo said.
The Master glared angrily at Bo. “You have to learn what happens to those that keep information from me. You will truly be sorry.”
Bo swallowed hard, wondering what The Master meant. The Master slammed Bo’s body against the wall, pushing Bo’s shirt up to expose his bare back. Without saying another word the master used his long fingers to claw Bo’s back. Bo cried out in pain as The Master clawed him, deeply, several times. Bo’s back felt as though it was on fire.
“Never keep anything from me Bo. Do you understand?” The Master asked,
“Yes . . . I am sorry.” Bo responded, his voice trembling.
The  Master said nothing further, he just turned and left. Bo dropped to the ground, and lay trembling for several minutes, before finally getting up, the pain slowly starting to subside. He moved through the darkness of the catacombs to find a place to sleep until nightfall.
As promised he had promised Corik returned to the Duke’s farm just before sunset. He carried with a much smaller bag this time.
“Do you think he will come back to the farm?” Jesse asked.
“It is hard to say, but I believe that he will come back here. I think that he is looking to sever all ties to his human life.” Corik said.
Luke stood by the window and watched the sun set. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, slowly releasing it. “I pray that he does come back here tonight. And that you are right that you can save his soul.”
“I will do everything I can to save your cousin.” Corik said.
“Vampires can’t enter unless you invite them in, right?” Jesse asked.
Corik nodded. “That is true, but Bo could enter still because this is home, so it is an open invitation. However if any other vampires come with him tonight they can’t enter. So we would be safe.” Corik said.
“But all the stuff to for the ritual to get Bo back his soul is at your cabin.” Luke said, turning to face Corik.
Corik nodded, he could see the point Luke was making. “We would just have to keep Bo contained until sunrise. The other vampires would leave and then we could transport Bo to my cabin.”
“But vampires can’t be exposed to sunlight.” Luke said.
“That is true. But we could transport him with any sunlight touching him easily. We would just have to wrap him in blankets to keep the sunlight from touching him.” Corik said.
Luke didn’t say anything else he just turned and looked out the window to wait and see if Bo was going to show up once it got dark.
“Where do you think the entrance to the catacombs is?” Jesse asked.
“I think it might be behind the mausoleum. I found that the ground behind there was excavated.” Corik said.
Jesse nodded. “They were going to start to build another mausoleum but the ground kept shifting. It was just called off last week.”
“That must be the place then. Once Bo gets his soul back he will be able to tell us. Then we can start plans to defeat The Master.” Corik said.
Bo woke up to the feeling of a soft hand running along the side of his face. He opened his eyes and looked up at Ariana. She smiled down at him.
“Good morning my sweet.” Ariana said.
Bo mumbled something under his breath and sat up. Ariana gently put an arm around his shoulders.
“I heard what happened between you and The Master last night. You shouldn’t have kept something so important from him.” Ariana said.
“I didn’t mean to. I had forgot all about it.” Bo said.
Ariana shook her head. “The Master does not except that as an excuse.”
“Yeah I found that out.” Bo mumbled.
“Just never do anything to make him angry with you and you have nothing to fear.” Ariana said.
“I didn’t mean to make him angry it was an accident.” Bo said.
“I know that. And so does The Master, that is why he went east on you.” Ariana said.
“That was considered taking it easy on me?” Bo asked.
“Yes. If he had been truly angry you would be dead, or wishing you were.” Ariana said.
“I’ll remember to never make him angry in the future.” Bo said.
“That was why The Master did that.” Ariana said, she took a hold of Bo’s head and turned it towards her, and kissed him on the lips.
Bo returned her kiss, and they remained locked in the kiss over several minutes, before Ariana pulled away.
“It is moments before dark, we must go to The Master before we go out and hunt.” Ariana said.
The two of them stood up and walked to where The Master waited.
The nine vampires stood before The Master. He chose one of his minions to be the one to bring him back his meal. He dismissed them to go out for the night’s hunt. Bo was the last one to head to leave, he stopped when The Master called his name. Bo turned around his face him.
“Did you learn your lesson last night?” The Master asked.
Bo nodded. “Yes I did.”
“Do not keep anything from me tonight.” The Master said.
Bo nodded, saying nothing. The Master could see the fear of him, in the young vampire’s eyes, and he smiled knowing that Bo would never do anything to anger him again. Bo turned and left the catacombs. He figured there was no way the hunter would be at the farm tonight. He would go there and feast upon the blood of those he once called family.
In the pale light of the moon Luke could see Bo walking towards the farmhouse.
     “Here he comes.” Luke said.
Corik hid out of site, so Bo wouldn’t see him when he first came into the house. Bo walked into the front room, he glared coldly at Jesse and Luke. Bo approached where Jesse and Luke were standing. He changed into his vampire form, figuring it made no difference since they already knew. Bo was a few feet from them when Jesse took out a cross from behind his back. Bo growled deeply, and took a step backwards. He stared at them for a moment trying to decided how to attack them. He was unaware of Corik sneaking up behind him. When Corik was a few inches from Bo, Bo heard his breath and spun around quickly. He glared at Corik with cold hateful eyes. Bo went to lunge at Corik, however Corik moved faster, plunging a needle into Bo’s stomach. Bo gasped as he felt the needle stab into his stomach. Corik pressed the plunger injecting the liquid substance into Bo. Bo gave a cry of pain, and stumbled backwards from Corik. Bo clenched his arms over his stomach, his whole body started shaking. Bo dropped to his knees. Luke could hear Bo making small gasping sounds. Luke’s eyes flashed with anger as he looked at Corik.
“What did you do to him?” Luke questioned angrily.
“Calm down Luke. He will be okay.” Corik said.
“What did you inject into him?” Luke asked.
“A combination of  holy water and garlic juice.” Corik said.
Bo suddenly fell to the ground, his eyes flickering shut.
“You killed him.” Luke said angrily and lunged at Corik.
Corik grabbed Luke gently by the shoulders. “He will be okay. All it did was hurt a little then act as a sedative. He will be left weak when he first wakes up, so that the ritual can be done.”
Luke pulled away from Corik and knelt down beside Bo. He quickly placed two fingers against Bo’s neck to check for a pulse, he noticed the two puncture wounds as he did. Luke felt no pulse he looked up at Corik.
“He has no pulse.” Luke said.
“Of course not. He is a vampire, vampires don’t have a pulse.” Corik said.
Jesse walked over to stand behind Luke, he placed a hand on Luke’s shoulder. “It is okay Luke. You have to trust Corik. He said he would help us to save Bo. I believe that is what he intends to do.”
Luke sighed deeply and nodded. “I am sorry. It is just . . .”
Corik nodded understandingly. “You are protective of your younger cousin.”
“Yeah, I just can’t stand the thought of losing him.” Luke said.
“Don’t worry. I will do everything I can to see that you don’t lose him.” Corik said.
     “Thank you.” Luke said.
“Now we have to hurry and get him back to my cabin to start the ritual of soul resurrection.” Corik said.
Luke nodded and carefully picked up Bo unconscious body, and followed Corik and Jesse outside.
They arrived at Corik’s cabin a short time later. Luke walked inside, carrying Bo. The walls of the cabin were covered with crosses. Corik motioned for Luke to put Bo on a chair that sat in the centre of the room. Luke helped Corik to tie Bo to the chair.
“He should start to wake up soon.” Corik said, checking over the other things that were set up for the ritual.
Luke noticed that a few feet in front of the chair was a large wooden circular box. Inside
The box was a number of different stones, feathers and herbs. Corik lit a few candles with a small lighter.
“What is all this stuff for? What exactly are you going to do to Bo?” Luke asked.
Corik motioned for him to step forward to the circle. So that he could explain the ritual to him.
“What I am doing is calling Bo’s soul back from the Urn of Vashion, where all souls of the undead go when they become a vampire.” Corik said, he was carefully holding a fair sized velvet pouch and knelt down by the circle. “The feathers and bones help to call forth. The stones each have their own power.” He told Luke about each stone as he pointed to them. “This is Tiger’s Eye it is used for separation it will separate your cousin from the demon. This is a Quartz Crystal it is used to heal and purify Bo’s body and mind. This is an Opal it is to contact the spirit world so that we can call Bo’s spirit forward.  The herbs are Agrimony which is to banish negative energies and spirits, Amaranth to call the dead and Aloe to guard against evil. This will help to not only get Bo’s soul back but also protect us. The candles also aid in getting Bo’s soul back, every element is crucial and must be exact. The White candles repel destructive force, raise vibrations and build purity. The black candles are used to absorb the negative energy.”
Luke listened carefully trying to absorb everything Corik was saying. He noticed a pile of grey stones with black markings on them, just outside the circle. “What are those used for?”
“They are spirit stones. The aid in contacting the spirit world and to bring Bo’s soul back across.” Corik said.
“It sure all sound complicated.” Luke said.
Corik nodded. “Some consider this to be more of a curse. Under normal circumstances it is hard for a vampire to have a soul. It is usually not stopped so soon into their being immortal. It makes it hard for them to feed as well because they have moral values and don’t want to kill to eat.”
Corik placed the velvet pouch in the centre of the circle. “And this is the most important aspect of the ritual with out all of this is nothing.”
He opened the pouch and it slid open revealing a golden tinted crystal ball.
     “What is it?” Luke asked.
“It is and Orb of Thesila, or in simple terms it is soul ball. Once the spirit world is contacted Bo’s soul will leave the Urn of Vashion and travel back across to this realm entering the Orb of Thesila and then re-entering his body.” Corik said.
Bo moaned softly as he began to wake up. Corik sat down in front of the circle, and motioned for Luke to step off to one side. Bo slowly opened his eyes and looked around, he growled lowly, seeing all the crosses. He tried to struggle to break the ropes but found he didn’t have strength, he felt he didn’t even have the strength to break string at this point.
“You may as well not struggle, you don’t have the strength.” Corik said.
Bo glared at Corik, his features taking on his vampire form, his eyes glowed green. “When I do get out of here I will kill you.” Bo said then looked over at Jesse and Luke. “All of you.”
Corik took a deep breath and slowly released it and began to recite the spell, “Not of the dead . . . and not of the living . . .”
That was all that Jesse or Luke could understand as the rest changed to an ancient dialectic of Latin. Bo was growling lowly, his body jerked violently a couple times. After twenty minutes or so the Orb glowed brightly. Bo’s whole body was shaking, his features back to being human. Corik spoke in English once more.
“Demon be gone.” Corik said, his voice demanding.
The Orb flashed and vanished. Bo’s body quivered and bucked and then he went still. His eyes flashed gold. Then his head dropped forward, and his eyes went closed. Corik stood up and approached Bo, he nodded to Jesse and Luke that they could approach as well.
     “Is he okay?” Luke asked.
Corik nodded. “He will just be very weak.”
Luke started to untie Bo, and he heard Bo moan softly. Bo opened his eyes and looked up at everyone. His deep blue eyes were clouded with confusion.
“What . . .where am I?” Bo asked.
     “You are safe.” Corik said.
     “What . . . what’s going on?” Bo asked.
     “Don’t he remember?” Luke asked.
“He will soon as he gets his bearings back. Just talk to him. I have to take down these crosses.” Corik said.
“Are you okay?” Jesse asked, his voice was edged with worry.
“I feel like I have been to hell to and back.” Bo said.
“In a way you have.” Luke said.
Jesse and Luke talked to Bo for a couple moments helping him to wake up. Bo was just starting to get his bearings when Corik walked back over. He had removed the crosses and snuffed the candles out. Bo’s face paled as he remembered what had been happening. Luke gently put a hand on Bo’s shoulder.
“I am sorry . . . I am so sorry.” Bo said softly, his voice shaking.
“It is okay Bo.” Luke said.
     “No I . . . I . . .” Bo said and found he couldn’t even find the words.
“Do not worry everything will be fine. You need to rest.” Corik said.
Bo shook his head. “Everything is not fine and won’t be fine.”
Bo tried to stand but was too weak, and he fell against Luke. Luke slid his arm around Bo to support him.
“We can discuss this later you need rest.” Corik said. “I have a room in the back.”
Corik led them to the room. Luke gently laid Bo down on the bed. Corik motioned for Luke to come back out Luke went as far as the door and stopped.
“I am going to stay with Bo, help to keep him calm.” Luke said.
“I don’t know if that will help.” Corik said.
“Listen if Bo is going to talk he would be most apt to talk to me.” Luke said.
Jesse heard the discussion. “That is true. The boys are close. Bo will probably be willing to talk to Luke with out anyone else around.”
Corik thought about it for a moment then nodded. “I guess it couldn’t hurt.”
Luke turned and went back into the room. There was a single oil lamp to light the room. Corik shut the door, leaving Bo and Luke alone, in the room. Luke sat down by the bed and looked at his younger cousin.
     “How you feeling?” Luke asked.
“Kinda like death warmed over.” Bo said. “I am tired and weak feeling and just . . .” his voice trailed off.
“Everything is going to be okay. You be better soon.” Luke said.
Bo said nothing he just turned his head away from Luke. Luke sighed as he tried to think of what to say to Bo.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Luke asked.
“What is there to talk about?” Bo asked.
“About what has been going on . . . the fact that you are a vampire.” Luke said, choosing not to evade the subject.
Bo turned and looked at Luke. He could see caring in Luke’s eyes he knew that Luke didn’t hate him for what he had become. He wasn’t sure if telling him everything that happened would change that. Bo decided to tell Luke everything. He tried to sit up a little but found he lacked the strength his whole body was dully aching, and he laid back down against the bed. Bo took a deep breath and slowly released it.
“There was this girl at the Boar’s Nest, Ariana. I remember meeting her and then nothing up until when she bit me. I guess she clouded my mind. Then I vaguely remember becoming a vampire. We went down into the catacombs below Hazzard, to . . . The Master.” Bo said.
“Corik said if we find and slay The Master that you will be human again. You can help us find him.” Luke said.
Bo nodded. “Though I don’t have the strength to face him . . . I don’t really want to see him again either. He is nothing but pure evil.”
     “What happen next?” Luke asked.
Bo was quiet for a minute, Luke noticed there was tears building in Bo’s eyes.
     “I . . . killed Karen.” Bo said softly.
Luke wasn’t sure what to say he could tell that it was upsetting Bo. He put a gentle hand on Bo’s shoulder.
“It wasn’t your fault you weren’t in control of your actions.” Luke said.
Bo gave a smile, relieved smile. He was glad that Luke didn’t hate him for killing Karen.
Bo gave a small sigh that Luke understood without him having to say it. “The other night at the farm  . . . I am sorry that I attacked you.”
“You didn’t hurt me. Don’t worry about it.” Luke said.
“Only because the hunter stopped me. The Master knows the hunter is here. I didn’t know he was the hunter when he stopped me from killing you. However The Master somehow read my thoughts and he thought I was hiding it from him. So he . . . taught me a lesson.” Bo said trying to sit up to show Luke his back.
Luke helped Bo to sit up. Bo slid his shirt off slightly. Luke noticed all the small cuts on Bo’s back, the sight made him flinch slightly.
“It doesn’t hurt that bad anymore. At the time is hurt really bad, but now is just a dull ache.” Bo said.
“That’s good it still don't hurt because it looks very painful.” Luke said.
Bo shrugged slightly then slid his shirt back on and laid back down.
Bo felt like that he was growing weaker, his eyes drifted shut. Luke carefully covered Bo with a blanket.
“Try to get some sleep. I’ll be back in a couple minutes.” Luke said.
Bo didn’t say anything and Luke could tell that in even that short of time Bo had fallen into a light sleep.
In the catacombs The Master stood talking to Ariana.
“I feel we have lost Bo.” Ariana said. “I can not sense him.”
“He is not dead. However the hunter got to him. He returned Bo’s soul to his body.” The Master said.
Ariana frowned. “Why would he do that? I thought the hunter only killed vampires.”
“Normally he does. I think he plans on using Bo to find our lair. So we should be on our guard and be ready for them.” The Master said.
Ariana smiled. ‘I’ll go inform the others.”
The Master nodded, as way of dismissing her. She turned and left quickly to seek out the other vampires and to tell them what was going on.
Luke went out to talk to Corik to see when Bo would regain his strength.
“Will he be better after he gets some sleep?” Luke asked.
Corik sighed and shook his head. “He will still be weak. A vampire needs blood to sustain life.”
“So if he don’t drink blood soon . . . he could die?” Luke asked.
Corik nodded. “He is quite weak. Weaker then I thought he would be after the ritual. It depends what all he went through and how many times he feed.”
     “He fed once.” Luke said.
“I don’t know how long he will last then. With sleep he will get a little strength back however without drinking blood he will die.” Corik said.
“You said after the ritual Bo would be fine.” Luke said.
“He will be if we find and slay The Master before Bo grows too weak.” Corik said.
Luke turned and went back into the room. He knew there was only one thing to do to help. He would make a sacrifice in order to keep Bo alive. He knelt down beside Bo and shook him gently.
     “Wake up Bo.” Luke said.
Bo opened his eyes and looked at Luke.
“What is it?” Bo asked, groggily.
“You need to feed.” Luke said, pulling Bo up into a sitting position.
Bo woke up completely when Luke said that. “What are you talking about?”
“Take my blood to regain your strength.” Luke said.
“Are you crazy? No way.” Bo said.
“You’ll die if you don’t drink blood soon.” Luke said.
“I will not take your blood Luke. I could kill you.” Bo said.
“I am willing to make that sacrifice. You can take just enough blood to get your strength back.” Luke said.
“Yeah but I could take too much and kill you. I don’t want to chance that happening.” Bo said.
“I am telling you to do this Bo. I am not going to sit back and watch you die.” Luke said.
Bo looked at Luke, seeing the sincerity in his eyes. “I am too afraid that I would kill you. I mean what happens if I can’t stop myself after I start to take your blood?”
“I don’t care Bo. I am not going to take no for an answer. You know I’d do anything to keep you safe.” Luke said.
Bo nodded. “I know but you don’t have to make this kind of sacrifice.”
“I want to.” Luke said firmly.
After a moment Bo finally nodded. He slowly stood up and looked at his cousin, trying to decided how to actually draw Luke’s blood. As he thought about it he changed to vampire form, his eyes glowing green. He stood behind Luke, and grabbed his shoulders. Luke closed his eyes. Bo opened his mouth wide and then sank his fangs into Luke’s neck. Luke stiffened as he felt the stabbing pain in his neck, he bit his lip to keep from crying out in pain. Bo could sense the pain he caused Luke and pulled away slightly.
“Just do it Bo.” Luke said softly.
Bo took a deep breath and sank his fangs back into Luke’s neck, and began to drink his blood. Bo drank Luke’s blood hungry. The metallic taste flooding his mouth, satisfying every inch of his body, effecting his body and mind like a drug. Luke felt himself growing weaker as Bo drank his blood Bo continued to drink Luke’s blood, when he suddenly felt Luke go limp. He knew Luke had only passed out, as he could still feel his pulse, beating in a slow, steady rhythm.
Bo was just pulling away from Luke when the door to the room opened and Jesse walked in. Jesse stared at Bo with wide eyes. Seeing Bo in his vampire form blood smeared around his mouth and a trickle of blood running down Luke’s neck. Bo let go of Luke, who slumped limply to the ground. Jesse glared at Bo with angry, hateful eyes, thinking that he just killed Luke.
Bo took a step towards Jesse to try to explain what had happened.
“You horrid demon from hell.” Jesse said angrily.
“Uncle Jesse you don’t understand, it is not what it looks like.” Bo tried to explain.
Without warning Jesse shoved Bo. Bo stumbled and lost his footing and fell to the ground. He knew he had the strength to fight back, but was too afraid of hurting Jesse. Even though he hadn’t regained his full vampire strength he knew that he could serious hurt Jesse without trying.
“Uncle Jesse . . .” Bo tried to explain.
“Silence, you demon from hell.” Jesse cursed. He took the cross, on a chain, from his pocket. He cursed himself  for believing the ritual had worked, and that Luke had paid for it with his life. He glared angrily at Bo for having abused Luke’s trust in him.
The mere sight of the cross made Bo feel weak, a hot stabbing pain seemed to flow through every inch of his body. Bo opened his mouth to try to say something and Jesse moved forward in one swift movement, he pressed his knee into Bo’s neck. Jesse then shoved the cross into Bo’s mouth, clamping his hand tightly over it. Bo tried to toss his head as a burning pain filled his mouth, but Jesse held his head still. Small trails of smoke billowed up from under Jesse’s hand.
“I don’t want to hear your excuses for killing Luke.” Jesse said.
Bo eyes were wide with pain, and realisation, that Jesse thought he had killed Luke. Jesse took out a stake. Bo tried to shake his head, to tell Jesse that Luke wasn’t dead, he had just passed out.
“I am sorry Bo, but there is no other way. I can’t allow you to get away with killing Luke.” Jesse said.
Bo stared up at Jesse with scared and hurt eyes. Jesse avoided Bo’s gaze, he knew if he looked into Bo’s eyes he wouldn’t have the strength to kill him. He felt in his heart though that Bo had to pay for killing Luke. He had decided that it really wasn’t Bo before him it was a demon. He moved his knee off of Bo’s neck. He positioned the stake over Bo’s heart, the tip of the stake pressing lightly into Bo’s skin. Jesse raised the stake, up to the height of his shoulder, and prepared to plunge it into Bo’s heart.
Jesse looked down at Bo, still refusing to look into his eyes. Jesse remembered back to when Bo just a baby and had came to live at the farm.

Jesse held Bo in his arms, and thought of how small and fragile Bo looked. He sat down on the couch, holding the tiny baby. Bo smiled up at him, his deep blue eyes dancing with happiness. Jesse smiled down at Bo. Luke came over and stood by Jesse’s knee, trying to see the baby. Jesse carefully helped Luke up onto the couch, to sit by him. Luke smiled and waved at Bo. Bo smiled back at Luke.
“Me and him are gonna be best friends.” Luke said.
Jesse smiled at Luke. “I am sure you will be.”

Jesse felt tears brimming in his eyes as he came out of the flashback. He then thought of what he had just seen: Bo drinking Luke’s blood, taking Luke’s life. He knew that Bo wasn’t the same person, in fact wasn’t even human, he was an undead creature of the night from hell.
Jesse started to bring the stake down. Bo closed his eyes, not wanting to see his death coming. Suddenly Jesse felt someone grab his arm, he looked to see Luke beside him. Luke held Jesse’s arm back, from staking Bo. Bo opened his eyes, he had thought by now he would be dead, he saw Luke beside Jesse.
“You can’t kill Bo.” Luke said.
“Luke, Bo isn’t the same person that you remember he is a demon from hell.” Jesse said.
Luke shook his head. “No he isn’t a demon from hell, he is who he has always been.”
“He tried to kill you.” Jesse said.
Luke made a sound of disbelief. “No he didn’t try to kill me.”
“What do you call him biting you and drinking your blood?” Jesse asked.
“That was MY idea. Bo needed to feed or he would die. He didn’t take enough to kill me.” Luke said.
Jesse shook his head. “No he must have clouded your mind to make you think it was your idea. I have to kill him.”
“You can’t kill Bo.” Luke said.
“Bo is already dead.” Jesse said.
“No he ain’t. If you kill him then you had better be prepared to kill me to. I will not allow ANYONE to hurt Bo.” Luke said.
Jesse looked into Luke’s eyes and saw the sincerity there. He stood up slowly. He couldn’t believe that he had almost taken his youngest nephew’s life. Bo coughed slightly as he sat up, his mouth still dully burning. Luke knelt beside Bo and put a hand on his shoulder.
     “Are you okay?” Luke asked.
Bo nodded. “Thanks for saving me.” Bo looked at Luke. “I told you it was a bad idea.”
Luke shook his head.
“I could’ve killed you.” Bo said.
“But you didn’t and I don’t think that you would’ve.” Luke said.
Bo and Luke stood up. Bo looked at Jesse not really knowing what to say. Jesse looked at Bo, and into his eyes. He could see Luke was right, it was indeed Bo. Jesse felt tears burn his eyes, he had hurt Bo, he had almost killed Bo, and for nothing.
“I am sorry Bo.” Jesse said quietly.
“You were only doing what you thought was right.” Bo said.
The three of them left the room to talk to Corik.
Corik looked up, and was shocked to see Bo up and around.
“I didn’t think you’d be up and around for a while.” Corik said, then noticed the bite marks on Luke’s neck and understood the sacrifice Luke had made.
“Do you know where we can find The Master?” Corik asked.
“He is in the catacombs below Hazzard. The entrance is in the mausoleum.” Bo said.
“Tomorrow we attack I doubt he will be expecting us.” Corik said
“He will be. He knows that you are in Hazzard. I am sure by now he knows what went on here tonight as well. He knows everything.” Bo said.
Corik sighed. “He is more powerful then I thought.”
“What is the deal with The Master anyways? Don’t he have any other name?” Bo asked.
“He did hundreds of years ago, but it is long since forgotten by most. I am sure it is in one of my old books. But nobody calls him by that name and lives. He is known as The Master, as he is a Master vampire. In fact  he is the only remaining Master vampire in the world. That is why he is known only as The Master.”
“Master vampire? I thought a vampire was a vampire.” Luke said.
Corik shook his head. “A Master vampire was never human, only pure demon. With many more powers then a normal vampire as well. A lot stronger”
Bo nodded in agreement. “That is for sure. He is also a lot more evil.”
“A Master vampire is a creature of pure evil straight from the depths of hell.” Corik said.
Corik looked over his book and took out one. “Here this book well tell all about The Master.” He opened the book and there was a picture of The Master.
Bo shuddered. “That’s him alright.”
“His name was Zandarik. He was one of the most powerful Master vampires. Along with the normal vampiric powers he also has mesmorization power, which he can force anyone to do what he wants, even other vampires. He can kill other creatures of darkness with normal methods, such as other vampires that don’t obey him” Corik said.
Bo swallowed, he was afraid of having to go back up against The Master, especially knowing how easily The Master could kill him. “So in other words I should worry, because I am sure he wants me dead.”
Luke put a hand on Bo’s shoulder. “I won’t let him kill you.”
“Before the earthquake he was attempting to open a portal between the two realms. Before he could finish though the earthquake swallowed half of the land in the area, creating the catacombs, trapping him and his vampires below the surface of the Earth. He is actually trapped down there, the catacombs acting like a dimensional prison, he can’t actual come to the surface, he can only act through his minion.” Corik said.
“Can he be killed like a regular vampire?” Luke asked.
“He must be beheaded.” Corik said.
“Great so all we have to do is go into the catacombs find him and cut his head off.” Bo said sarcastically.
“We need to rest first before we confront The Master. I think it would be best to go at sundown tomorrow.” Corik said.
     “Why sundown?” Luke asked.
“Because I think then most The Master’s minion will be out hunting, we stand a better chance of getting into the catacombs and finding The Master.” Corik said.
Corik went to his room to sleep. Jesse slept on the couch in the main room. Bo and Luke shared the back room. There was only the one bed.
“You may as well take the bed.” Bo said.
     “Are you sure?” Luke asked.
Bo nodded. “I can sleep almost anywhere and be comfortable, after all I still am a vampire.” Bo said, jokingly.
“True. Aren’t you suppose to sleep in a coffin or turn into a bat and hang upside down from the ceiling?” Luke asked.
     “Cute.” Bo said.
Luke just laughed, and then laid down on the bed. Bo laid down on the floor against the far wall. Luke was quite tired from the loss of blood and drifted into a deep sleep. Bo listened to the sound of Luke’s deep breathing for a couple moments, before he to drifted into a deep sleep, the events of that night finally taking their toll on him.
Everyone slept deeply that night, except for Jesse. He kept thinking of how he had almost killed Bo and for no reason. Every time he drifted into a light sleep he kept dreaming of trying to kill Bo, only in his dreams he succeed in killing him before Luke woke up. He laid awake on the couch for hours and watched the sunlight take over the darkness. His mind racing with thoughts of what had been happening the past couple days as well as memories of the past.
Early that afternoon Corik got up, he saw Jesse sitting looking out the window at the swamp. Jesse turned when he heard Corik walk into the room. Corik could see the deep sadness in Jesse’s eyes.
“If all goes as planned tonight this will all be over.” Corik said.
“And if not this nightmare will last forever.” Jesse said sullenly.
“At least the ritual was successful. Bo has his soul back.” Corik said.
“But he is still a vampire.” Jesse said.
Corik nodded. “That is true but he is not evil.”
Jesse sighed. “I know I just doubt anything will ever return to normal after this . . . I mean I tried to kill Bo when I thought he had killed Luke.”
“You were doing what you thought was best to protect everyone. From what I could tell Bo didn’t seem angry.” Corik said.
Jesse didn’t say anything further, he just turned to look back out the window.
“I have to close the shutters and cover the windows.” Corik said as he began to close the shutters. “The tarps are in that box over there, could you get them out?” he asked pointing to the box the sat in the corner.
Jesse nodded and went and got the tarps.
“We have to be sure that there is no light coming in through the windows, for when Bo comes out to this room. Vampires don’t get sunburn they just burn.” Corik said.
Corik and Jesse went about covering the windows being sure no sunlight shone into the cabin.
A little while later, Luke woke up. He sat up on the bed, the room was shroud in complete darkness. It took a couple moments for Luke’s eyes to adjust to the darkness. He looked over at where Bo was sleeping, he could just see the outline of his body. Luke lit the oil lamp. Bo woke up, he sat up and looked over at Luke.
“What time is it?” Bo asked.
Luke shrugged. “I ain’t sure.”
Bo leaned against the wall as Luke went out into the other room.
Luke saw the windows were tightly closed and covered. The room was lit by a few oil lamps.
“What time is it?” Luke asked.
“About two thirty.” Corik said. “It is fine for Bo to come out there is no sunlight.”
Luke nodded, and went back and told Bo it was fine to leave the small back room. Bo sat down on one of the chairs, and glanced over at Jesse. Bo ran his fingers through his thick blonde hair, he could tell that Jesse was upset but had no idea of what to say figuring he was the cause of why Jesse was upset.
“How many other vampires were in the catacombs?” Corik asked.
“Eight that I know of, not including me.” Bo said. “There was nine until you killed one of them “There is still almost six hours until sunset. Maybe we should have some training on how to fight vampires.” Corik said.
Jesse nodded. “That would be helpful.”
     “You ain’t going.” Bo said.
Jesse looked  at Bo with wide shocked eyes. Thinking that Bo indeed hated him “What?”
“I said you ain’t going.” Bo said and looked at Jesse. “It is far to dangerous. I don’t want to risk your life.”
“You don’t trust me, you think that I will try to kill you as well, is that it?” Jesse asked.
Bo shook his head and walked over and stood in front of his uncle. “No. That is not it at all. I trust you Uncle Jesse. I know you didn’t mean to try to kill me, you were doing what you thought was best.”
     “I am sorry.” Jesse said.
Bo leaned forward and gave his uncle a quick hug. “You don’t have to apologise I know you didn’t really mean to try to kill me.”
Jesse gave a small smile, the sadness leaving his eyes.
“I don’t want you going because it ain’t safe.” Bo said and turned to Luke. “You ain’t going either.”
“The heck I ain’t.” Luke said.
“It is not safe. You are staying here with Uncle Jesse.” Bo said.
Luke shook his head. “I am going.”
Bo walked over to Luke. “You are staying here. It is not safe.”
“There is no way that I am staying here. I told you I was going to take care of you, and not let The Master hurt you again. The only way I can keep that promise is to go.” Luke said sternly.
Bo sighed. “There is nothing that I could say that would make you stay is there?”
Luke shook his head. “Nope, not one single thing.”
“Okay fine you win. I ain’t gonna argue with you about it. On one condition.” Bo said.
     “What’s that?” Luke asked.
“You get Corik’s training and can only go if he says that you are prepared enough to actually go up against vampires.” Bo said.
Luke smiled. “Fair enough.”
The two of them shook hands as though to seal the deal.
Luke turned to face Corik. “Okay where does the training start?”
Corik smiled, he could tell Bo was indeed a good person and was glad that he had saved his soul. “We’ll start with some basics.”
Corik cleared an area for training and laid several thick mats down on the floor. Corik didn’t waste too long on the basic training, because Luke already had Marine training. Corik showed Luke the basics for fight against a vampire, all the stuff he had to learn to do before he became a vampire hunter. Luke picked up the moves quickly, which impressed Corik. Corik decided that the best way for Luke to practise was to spar with Bo, since he was a vampire. Luke was unsure, but both Corik and Bo assured him it was fine. Luke found it harder fighting against Bo, because of his vampire strength. Bo took Luke down several times, being careful not to use his full strength so he wouldn’t hurt Luke badly.
Luke charged at Bo, and Bo grabbed him and flipped him to the ground. Luke lay flat on his back looking up at Bo. Corik frowned and stepped over to them.
“If this was a real fight you’d be dead now. You try to rush to much at him, use slower more planned moves.” Corik said.
Bo gave Luke a hand to stand back up.
“Maybe you should just forget about this and stay here.” Bo said.
Luke shook his head. “Not a chance you are going down cousin.” Luke said jokingly.
Bo grinned and shook his head.
Luke prepared to attack thinking about what Corik had said, he was determined to get through the training, there was no way he was going to stay back and let Bo fight alone. Luke made a lunge at Bo. Bo stepped to one side avoiding contact with Luke. Before Bo could react Luke landed a punch into Bo’s stomach. Then in one swift movement Luke grabbed Bo and flipped him to the ground.
     “Much better.” Corik said.
Bo and Luke continued some basic sparring for two hours, by which time Luke had all the moves down and could easily fight against Bo. The next part of the training was with weapons. Corik took out an old tackling dummy and showed Luke how to use a sword and stakes to kill a vampire. Since there was only two ways to kill them with injuries, through the heart or beheading, and The Master had to be beheaded nothing else. Luke easily mastered how to use the stake, to plunge it through the vampire’s heart, however he had difficulty in getting the sword techniques.
“Is it really necessary to use the sword?” Luke asked.
Corik nodded. “It is if you come up against The Master.”
It took nearly two hours but Luke finally got the hang of using the sword.
“How much more training is there?” Luke asked.
“That is all you need to know.” Corik said.
Luke looked at him questioningly. “Well . . . how did I do?”
“You did just fine and I think that you are actually ready to fight tonight.” Corik said.
Luke smiled and turned to Bo. “It is official cousin I am going with you.”
Bo smiled. “I am really kinda glad that you are coming along.”
“Can’t let you get into a fight without me. No fair that you should have all the fun.” Luke said jokingly.
Bo laughed, then his eyes turned serious. “Just remember to be careful though, okay? This ain’t like a typical bar fight that we tend to get in.”
“I am always careful.” Luke said.
“I am serious Luke.” Bo said.
“And so am I. I plan on being careful, so don’t worry Bo. I know what I am doing. There is no way I letting you do this alone.” Luke said.
Bo was still worried about Luke going along, since he never actually truly fought a vampire. Fighting against him was different, he wouldn’t really ever hurt Luke, any other vampire would be out to kill him. Bo hoped that when the time came Luke could fight the other vampires, and actually kill them. Bo decided that he was never going to leave Luke alone in the catacombs to fight on his own. He figured that if he was always around he could take out any vampires that Luke couldn’t.
Corik, Luke and Jesse ate dinner. Bo sat looking through the old books, he was surprised that he could read the ancient dialect of Latin that some of the books were written in. The finally hour before sunset seemed to drag past. Everyone sat around in silence, waiting for the sky to darken. As it grew closer for the time for the sun to set, Corik began to gather the things that they would need to go into the catacombs with. He handed Bo and Luke, each a sliver sword with a golden handle, he set one aside for himself. He packed two leather bags with a couple stakes, a couple bottles of holy water and a cross. He took a small box out of the trunk and approached Luke.
“This is for you.” Corik said.
Luke opened the lid to the box. Inside was a deep blue stone, that was cut into a hallow circle about three inches in diameter. It was attached to a long, thin black leather strap.
“It is a Lapis Lazuli. It is a stone used to protect the wearer.” Corik said.
Luke picked it up, and slid it around his neck. “Thanks.”
Finally the sun set beyond the horizon, darkening the sky.
“Time to get moving.” Corik said.
Bo and Luke nodded and stood up. They said good bye to Jesse.
Jesse was scared for Bo and Luke’s safety, but forced a smile. “Good Luck, and take care.”
“Don’t worry Uncle Jesse we’ll be back really soon, and everything will be back to normal.” Bo said.
Jesse watched as the three of them left, he filled with worry as the door click shut, he sat down on the couch, knowing there was nothing to do now except wait.
They approached the graveyard in silence. They were aware of how quiet everything was, nature was not making any sound, as though it knew what evil lurked below the ground. The tension was thick as they approached the mausoleum. Bo stopped walking and looked at the mausoleum.
     “What’s wrong?” Luke asked.
“Someone is waiting for us. I can’t tell exactly where they are though.” Bo said and slowly approached the mausoleum, trying to figure out where the other vampire was.
Corik nodded. “They know that we are coming, this could be more difficult then I had thought.” Corik said then turned to Luke.   “If you want to back out of this now is the time.”
Luke shook his head. “I am in this until the end. I am not leaving Bo to go through this on his own.”
“You are a good friend.” Corik said.
Luke gave a slight smile. “I know that Bo would do the same thing if this situation was the other way around.”
Bo was a few feet from the mausoleum when he was attacked.  Makani had been hiding in the bushes, waiting for them, as he had been order to. The second he was tackled, Bo’s features took on his vampire form. Bo dropped his sword when he was hit by Makani. The two vampires tackled, both equally matched. Corik and Luke rushed forward. Corik readied a stake to plunge through the attacking vampire's heart. He stood back watching the fighting, not wanting to rush in an accidentally kill Bo. After a couple minutes of fighting Bo managed to get the upper hand. He flung Makani a couple feet. Corik used the opportunity to drive the stake through Makani’s heart. Makani saw the vampire hunter at the last second, but it was already too late. Corik drove the stake into Makani’s heart. Luke watched as the vampire turned to dust. Bo bent down and picked his sword back up.
“One down seven and The Master to go.” Bo said, his features returning to normal.
The three of them stepped into the mausoleum. They were glad that there was no other vampire inside the mausoleum waiting for them. Corik and Luke followed Bo over to the entrance for the catacombs. They stepped into the tunnel, which was sparsely lit by several torches that were hung along the walls.
“Looks like they have rolled out the welcome mat.” Bo said jokingly.
“The Master knows that we are coming. He may be trying to lead us into a trap.” Corik said.
“Come into my parlour said the spider to the fly.” Luke joked.
Bo smiled. “Real cute Luke.”
They walked down the tunnel, and came to a wider area with tunnels leading several directions.
“Which way to The Master?” Corik asked.
“Unless he has moved, since he is expecting us, he is down that tunnel.” Bo said, pointing to the tunnel on the far left.
They moved towards the tunnel, when suddenly a vampire leapt out of the shadows and knocked Luke to the ground. Bo growled, and took on his vampire form. Luke scrambled to open the bag and get out his stake. As Luke fought with the vampire, Amaranth, he dropped the stake. Corik went to help Luke, but Amaranth struck him, knocking him into the wall. Corik hit the wall and had the wind knocked out of him, he lay on the ground stunned. Amaranth and Luke continued to fight. Bo rushed forward and grabbed Amaranth, and pulled him off of Luke. As Amaranth went to get up, Bo grabbed the stake Luke had dropped. Bo lunged forward and plunged the stake through Amaranth’s heart. After Amaranth was dust, Bo turned back to help Luke to his feet.
“Are you okay?” Bo asked, his voice filled with concern.
Luke nodded. “Yeah I am fine.”
Bo and Luke then went to check on Corik. He was just waking up.
     “Are you okay?” Luke asked.
Corik nodded as he stood up. “I am fine. Did you get him?”
Luke smiled. “And then there were six. Bo dusted him.”
Corik smiled. “Good. I just hope next time we see them coming. I don’t know why we missed that one.”
Bo nodded. “It don’t make too much sense. I mean I sensed the one outside.”
“Maybe it has something to do with the catacombs.” Luke suggested.
Corik nodded. “It could have. Since this place is filled with so much evil already it is hard to pick out any distinct evil signature.”
“If that is the case we won’t see the remaining vampires coming until they are right on top of us.” Bo said.
“We just have to be a little more careful.” Corik said.
“Does that mean The Master could be near us and we’d never know it?” Luke asked.
“Hard to say. I guess we have to wait and see. I think he will show himself for a fight and not hide in the shadows.” Corik said. “The only way we are going to find out is to continue on.
“I got a feeling though that he is not where he was last time I was here. He has moved so we won’t find him right away, hoping the others will manage to kill us.” Bo said.
The three of them continued down the passageway in silence, trying to be more aware of what possibly lurked in the shadows. They reached the end of the tunnel.
“This where The Master was.” Bo said as they looked around the empty cavern. “Who knows where he is now, there a lot of tunnels down here.”
Corik went to respond when two vampires leapt out of the darkness. The two vampires stood staring at the three intruders. Perdita tossed her long black hair out of her eyes. Qamar stood a couple feet from her, he scanned over the intruders to decide who to attack. Qamar lunged at Corik, and Perdita moved towards Luke and Bo. Qamar tackled Corik, and they both fell to the ground. Perdita went to lunge at Luke, but Bo grabbed her and stopped her, he flung her against the wall. She slowly stood up, with a dazed expression on her face. She shook it off and lunged at Bo. Bo easily grabbed her and flung her against the wall again. She lay on the ground not moving, stunned by the force she hit the wall with. Luke used the opportunity to plunge the stake through her heart. Perdita never saw Luke come at her with the stake. Luke turned to see how Corik was doing fighting the other vampire. Corik had dropped his stake and was looking through the bag for something to fight the vampire with. Qamar lunged at Corik, Corik swung his bag, and knocked the vampire down. While the vampire was down Corik went through his bag. His fingers closed around one of the bottles of holy water just as Qamar was standing back up. Corik could tell that Qamar was quite a powerful vampire and was harder to kill then some. Corik noticed that Bo and Luke had already managed to kill the other vampire. Corik steadied himself as Qamar lunged at him. When the vampire was inches in front of him, Corik drew the bottle of Holy water out, and smashed the bottle against the vampire’s face. Qamar gave an agonised scream as the holy water burned his face. Even from the distance they stood from Corik and the vampire, Bo and Luke could hear the sizzling of Qamar’s flesh. Qamar covered his face, with his hands, as he howled in pain, he stumbled around in a blind circle. Corik calmly bent over and picked up the stake that he had dropped. He raised the stake and plunged it through the vampire’s heart. Qamar gave one last high pitched howl of pain, before he burst into dust.
“Scratch two more.” Luke said, with a smile.
“Any idea where The Master has moved himself to?” Corik asked.
Bo shook his head. “He could be anywhere there is a lot of tunnels down here, I don’t know where half of them lead to.”
“I think it is best if we split up to find him.” Corik said.
“That sounds like a good idea.” Luke agreed.
“Fine, but I am sticking with Luke.” Bo said.
“I can take care of myself against these creatures.” Luke said.
“That maybe so but . . . we are always a team.” Bo said.
Luke smiled and gave a small laugh. “True.”
Corik gave a small smile, thinking of how much Bo and Luke seemed like brothers, and even in such a intense situation they still were joking around and kept teasing each other in a brotherly way, never vicious or cruel.
Corik headed towards the tunnel the veered off to the left, he stopped and turned around to face Bo and Luke who were heading toward the tunnel on the right.
“Best of luck to you.” Corik said.
“Same to you.” Luke said, turning to face Corik.
They waved farewell and each started off down the sparsely lit tunnels.
Bo and Luke walked in silence for about twenty minutes when Bo heard a rustling sound coming from just ahead of them. Bo grabbed Luke’s arm to stop him from continuing down the tunnel.
“What?” Luke asked, turning to face Bo.
“There is someone or something in this tunnel with us.” Bo said.
“Where?” Luke asked, looking around the tunnel.
“Just up ahead, I heard something rustling.” Bo said.
“I didn’t hear nothing.” Luke said.
“Well I did.” Bo said. “Wait here a minute I’ll go check it out.”
Bo moved slowly down the tunnel, trying to peer into the dark shadows, that filled most the tunnel. He was about ten feet from Luke when he was tackled by another vampire. Bo landed flat on his back and looked up at the vampire, Zephan. Zephan was at least four inches taller then Bo, his body rippled with muscles that made him look about twice was big as Bo. Bo struggled to get out from the vampire’s hold but found himself unable to break free. Luke rushed forward to help Bo. Luke tried to pull Zephan off Bo, Zephan paid as little attention to Luke, as one would pay to a pesky fly. Without even turning to look at Luke, Zephan lashed his hand out striking Luke, causing him to stumble back a couple paces. Zephan grabbed Bo roughly by the neck and drug him to his feet. Bo grabbed Zephan’s hand that was around his neck, and tried to pry his fingers open. In a swift movement Zephan slammed Bo against the wall of the tunnel, squeezing his neck tightly, and lifting him a couple inches from the ground. Bo could feel Zephan’s large hand crushing his neck. Zephan used his other hand to grab a handful of Bo’s hair tightly. Bo struggled futilely to break free from Zephan’s hold. Zephan used one hand to pull up on Bo’s head, while he kept his other hand tightly around Bo’s neck. Bo felt as though Zephan was trying rip his head off his body. Luke slowly got to his feet, his mind was racing as he tried to think of how to save Bo. Luke took a bottle of holy water out of the bag and took the top off. He moved to stand a foot behind Zephan. He took the top off the bottle and splashed the water onto Zephan’s back. Zephan howled in pain as the flesh on his back started to sizzle. He released his hold on Bo, who slumped limply to the ground, and turned to face his attacker. Zephan glared angrily at Luke, and raised his hand and struck Luke across the face. Luke stumbled back a couple paces, from the force of the blow, but managed to stay standing. Luke closed his hand around the stake, and watched as Zephan prepared to attack him again. Zephan growled and lunged at Luke. Luke took a confident step forward as Zephan lunged at him. When Zephan was inches in front of him, Luke plunged the stake into the vampire’s heart. As the stake slid into Zephan’s heart, he and Luke locked eyes. Luke could see the shocked expression in the vampire’s eyes, that he was killed by a mortal. In seconds Zephan was nothing more then a pile of dust. Luke turned to look at Bo, who was sitting up leaning against the wall rubbing his neck.
“Are you okay?” Luke asked, his voice filled with concern.
“Yeah I am fine.” Bo said, and slowly stood up. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah. That vampire was no problem.” Luke said jokingly, smiling at Bo.
“Well I wore him down for you.” Bo said, in mock serious tone.
Luke smiled. “That leaves what three more vampires and The Master?”
Bo nodded. “I wonder how Corik is doing.”
“I am sure is doing just fine, after all he is the hunter.” Luke said.
“True.” Bo said. He wondered how many more of the remaining vampires they were going to have to deal with, he silently hoped that they wouldn’t have to deal with Ariana.
Corik walked along the dark tunnel, listening intently for the smallest sound, to alert him of a vampire’s presence. There were many dark tunnels that looped all around the catacombs. Some tunnels led nowhere and he had to turn around several times and go down a different tunnel. Corik soon found that he had become lost. Corik sighed deeply as he found the tunnel he had going down was a dead end. The tunnel opened into a small cavern. Corik took a couple steps into the cavern, and looked around, seeing nothing but shadows he turned to leave. When he turned around he came face to face with a vampire. She smiled at him, with an evil glimmer in her eyes, and tossed back her long black hair. Corik never heard a second vampire come up behind him. Corik was not aware of Xanthus’s presence until he was grabbed from behind. Corik swung his elbow back connecting solidly with the Xanthus. The vampire lost his hold on Corik and stumbled backwards from the force of the blow. A second vampire appeared,Viviana leapt at Corik, scratching his face. Corik smacked her knocking her to the ground. He raised his hand and gently ran his fingers over where Viviana had scratched him. He felt warm sticky blood coat his fingers. As he drew his fingers back and looked at the blood, Xanthus attacked him from behind, locking his arms tight around his ribs. Corik tried to shake himself free but couldn’t escape Xanthus’s hold. Corik heard something snap and knew that he had at least one broken rib. Corik struggled to breathe as Xanthus began to squeeze him harder. Viviana stood back and watched as Xanthus was crushing the life out of the hunter. Corik gasped deeply as he felt his broken rib press against his lung. He could darkness trying to over take his mind, but he fought it off. Corik mustered all his strength and flung his body backwards, slamming Xanthus against the wall of the cavern. Xanthus lost his hold and dropped to the ground. Corik turned to face Xanthus. Corik took out a stake and knelt by Xanthus to prepare to plunge the stake through the vampire’s heart. Corik had momentarily forget all about the other vampire. Viviana lunged at Corik clawing at his back with long, sharp fingernails, tearing his shirt as she cut deeply into his flesh. Corik spun around and knocked her to the ground. He could feel his blood start to soak the back of his shirt, his back was stinging with a fiery pain, but he ignored it. He bent to pick up the stake he had dropped, but just before his finger could close around the stake, Xanthus grabbed his hand. Xanthus hauled Corik roughly to his feet, by his hand.  Corik punched Xanthus in the jaw. Xanthus growled and let Corik go. Corik took out his cross and pressed it against Viviana’s face. She howled in pain as the cross burned her flesh. When Corik pulled the cross back, he could see the burned mark of a cross on Viviana’s face. Corik turned to face Xanthus again and before Xanthus could attack, Corik plunged the stake into the vampire’s heart. A shocked expression spread across the vampire’s face, as he pulled the stake out Xanthus turned to dust. In a swift movement Corik spun around and faced Viviana, without a moments hesitation he plunged the stake into her heart, and in seconds she was dust.
Corik stood breathing deeply, his ribs ached and his back felt like it was on fire. His eyelids drifted shut, his body begged for him to give into the darkness. He could feel the darkness trying to over take him again, it became harder and harder to fight. He was determined not to give into the darkness he knew that he had to help Bo and Luke find and destroy The Master. Corik took a deep breath, which sent a stabbing pain through his ribs. He groaned softly in pain and clutched his arms over his ribs. Once the pain subsided Corik took a couple of staggering steps forwards. Even that little bit of effort seemed to drain him. He tried to fight the darkness off but his efforts were futile, Corik finally gave into the darkness. He dropped limply to the floor as darkness consumed his mind. Corik lay unconscious on the cool, damp floor of the cavern.
Bo and Luke walked into a small cavern, which had several different tunnels leading different directions.
“Which tunnel do you think we should take?” Luke asked.
Bo shrugged. “I don’t know. They all look about the same to me.” Bo said.
They looked over the tunnels for a moment and finally decided to take the tunnel on the far right. They walked towards the tunnel. When a voice called out from behind them.
     “Hello Bo.” Ariana said.
Bo visibly shuddered at the sound of her voice, and he slowly turned around to face her. “Hello Ariana.”
Ariana smiled at Bo. “Aren’t you going to introduce me to your friend?”
     “No.” Bo replied flatly.
Ariana stuck her bottom lip out and looked as though she was pouting. “Aw, that isn’t very nice of you. I introduced you to all of my friends.”
Luke narrowed his eyes at Ariana, he only knew what Bo told him about her, and he hated her. She was the one responsible for turning Bo into a vampire.
Ariana looked at Luke and smiled. “I don’t think your friend likes me very much Bo.”
“I imagine that he don’t care much for you, in fact neither do I.” Bo said, his voice cold.
“You aren’t being very nice Bo. Especially after all that we have meant to each other.” Ariana said.
“There is nothing between us. You mean nothing to me.” Bo said.
Ariana stepped towards Bo. “Come now Bo, there is no need for lies, think of our time together.”
Bo sighed. “It meant nothing.”
Ariana stopped inches in front of Bo. She brought her hand up and gently caressed the side of his face. She looked deep into his eyes, and smiled at him. Bo tried to step back from her but she held the side of his face in her hand. Ariana leaned forward and kissed Bo on the lips. Luke figured that she was distracted and took the opportunity to attack her. Before he could land a single blow even, Ariana spun around and grabbed Luke firmly by the shoulders.
“Let go of my cousin.” Bo said firmly.
“So this is your cousin.” Ariana said. “What is your name?” she asked Luke, as she stared deeply into his eyes.
“Luke.” He responded his voice sounded distant, and lost in a fog.
“I said let go of my cousin.” Bo said, his voice demanding. He grabbed Ariana and pulled her backwards away from Luke.
Ariana let go of Luke as Bo pulled her backwards, nearly tripping over her own feet. Luke stumbled backwards his mind felt like it was lost in a thick fog. He was disoriented and was only dimly aware or his surroundings or what was happening. Ariana turned to face Bo; she smiled with a false sweetness, as she ran her fingers down the side of his face and down along his muscular chest.
“You can join us again Bo.” Ariana said.
“Now why would I want to do that?” Bo asked.
Ariana looked deeply into Bo’s eyes. “So that we can be together.”
“I have no desire to be with you.” Bo said coldly.
Ariana’s smile turned to a frown she had a hurt expression on her face. “You are being so nasty Bo. I thought you loved me.”
“You don’t even know the meaning of the word love.” Bo said.
“There you go being all nasty again. I thought I really meant something to you.” Ariana said
Bo shook his head. “Not even close. You mean nothing to me at all. The only ones who mean anything to me is my family and friends, you don’t fit in there anywhere.” Bo said.
Ariana glared at Bo. “Maybe your cousin will feel differently.” She said and grabbed Bo’s head and slammed it backwards against the wall.
Bo felt darkness wash over his mind, like a wave, and he slumped unconsciously to the ground.
Ariana turned to Luke and stepped over to him. She pressed her body close against his and stared into his eyes. Luke felt himself become lost in her eyes. He felt as though a thick fog and surrounded them .He forget where he was and that Bo was there even. Ariana smiled at him as she softly caressed the side of his face with her hand.
“Do you like me Luke?” Ariana asked softly.
Luke was silent for a moment as he thought of the answer.
Ariana asked again. “Do you like me?”
Finally Luke nodded. “Yes I do.”
Ariana ran her fingers through Luke’s short dark hair, as she stared into his crystal ice blue eyes. She slowly unbuttoned his shirt and stared to run her hand up and down his bare chest.
Bo slowly stared to wake up his vision was blurry as he saw Ariana and Luke.
“No . . . Luke.” Bo mumbled softly.
Bo slowly stood up, he watched with terror as Ariana tipped Luke’s head to one side, and sank her fangs into the soft flesh of Luke’s neck. Bo rushed forwards and grabbed Ariana and pulled her backwards. Luke dropped limply to the ground.
“I told you to let my cousin go.” Bo said harshly, praying that he wasn’t too late to save Luke, and that she only had a chance to draw very little blood.
Ariana turned around growling at Bo. “You interrupted my meal.” She said as she licked her lips.
“Ain’t that just too damn bad.” Bo said.
Ariana raised her hand to claw Bo, but before her nails could dig into him, he grabbed her wrist. Bo twisted her wrist backwards.
“Now you are the one you ain’t being very nice Ariana.” Bo said mockingly.
“I was only kidding Bo, I wasn’t really going to kill your cousin.” Ariana said.
“Now why don’t I believe you?” Bo questioned.
Ariana struggled and managed to break free from Bo’s hold. “I am telling you the truth.”
Bo laughed. “I doubt that. You wouldn’t know the truth if it jumped out and bit you.”
Ariana growled again and swung her hand at Bo. He grabbed her hand and in one quick movement her slammed her against the wall.
Ariana looked up at Bo, with a pouting expression. “You aren’t playing very nice.”
Bo smiled at her. “You started it.”
Luke was awake but felt like he could barely move or talk, he watched Bo fighting Ariana, praying that Bo could defeat her, though he had complete confidence in his cousin he was still worried about him losing the battle. Bo moved quickly to pick up a stake to kill Ariana with. She was still sitting on the ground. He knelt down beside her.
“Goodbye Ariana.” Bo said, and plunged the stake into her heart. “I told you to let go of my cousin.”
After she turned into dust Bo turned to check on Luke. He gave a sigh of relief when he found Luke was awake. Ariana had drawn very little blood. Luke had just gone into shock from her clouding his mind and drinking his blood.
“Are you okay?” Bo asked as he helped Luke sit up.
Luke nodded. “Yeah I am fine. Just a little dazed. Are you okay?”
“Yeah I am fine.” Bo said.
Bo stood up and then gave Luke a hand and helped him stand.
“I guess she learned the hard way not to mess with you.” Luke said jokingly.
Bo smiled. “She learned that I don’t stand for people messing with any of my family. I told her to let ya go but she just wouldn’t listen to me, so I was forced to drive a stake through her heart.”
“Thanks for saving my life.” Luke said seriously.
“You would do the same thing . . . you have done the same thing.” Bo said.
They said nothing further to each other and headed down the tunnel that they had chosen to follow earlier.
The Master sat in the shadows he could sense that Bo and Luke were nearing were he was, and he smiled. His eyes seemed to glow with evil, and he concentrated his thoughts on Bo. After several minutes he could feel himself enter Bo’s mind on a spiritual plain of existence. He started to merge his thoughts with Bo’s, slowly taking over Bo’s thoughts. The Master smiled knowing that he would soon have control of Bo, and Bo's freewill would be broken. Bo would basically be nothing more then a vessel for The Master after he had control of his mind Bo would be dimly aware of his own thoughts but unable to act upon them.
About ten minutes passed in silence, the temperature in tunnel had grown warmer with almost each passing step. Luke was walking several paces in front of Bo. Bo was walking slowly taking small steps his eyes transfixed straight ahead, although he was looking at nothing in particular. Luke didn’t seem to notice Bo’s silence or slowness. Luke was sure that they were growing closer to The Master was why the temperature in the tunnel was rising.
Bo stopped walking he could sense The Master was in his mind. Bo tried to call out to Luke, but found he couldn’t speak, he watched as Luke grew further away down the tunnel. Bo tried vainly to fight The Master off, but it was already too late, The Master had complete control of Bo. Bo’s eyes began to glow, bright green, his eyes peering through the shadows at Luke’s disappearing figure. A look of hunger flashed across Bo’s eyes and he licked his lips as he watched Luke, thinking of how good his blood had tasted. Bo’s thoughts broke away from his hunger and he slipped into the shadows and down a previously unseen passageway.
Luke stopped walking and turned around to say something to Bo. He frowned when he saw that Bo was nowhere to be seen behind him. A knot of worry began to form in his stomach, as he wondered where Bo had gone, fearing the worst.
     “BO!”
No response came and Luke’s heart began to race with fear. He wondered what had happened to Bo, he figured he would’ve surely heard something if another vampire had grabbed Bo. Luke began to run back down the tunnel, his heart racing with fear.
“BO!” Luke called out, and again, still no response came.
Luke stopped running and looked around the tunnel. He wondered how Bo could just vanish like that, and he wondered how long it had been since Bo had disappeared. Luke wondered if Bo had left on his own freewill, and if so, why didn’t Bo say anything to him. The knot of worry in his stomach grew tighter, and he just knew that Bo was in serious danger. Luke turned back around and continued to go down the tunnel in the direction he had been, back towards The Master. Luke knew that when he found The Master, he’d find Bo. Luke prayed silently to himself that he would find Bo soon, knowing the longer it was until he found Bo the less chance there would be of saving him.
Bo walked along the dark passageway, until he reached the cavern that The Master was in. The cavern was brightly lit by numerous torches, the flames jumped and danced on the torches, casting reflections on the wall. The Master smiled when he saw Bo walk into the cavern. Bo looked at The Master with glassy eyes that were vacant of any expression.
The Master beckoned for Bo to walk forward to him. “Come to me child.”
Without a moment’s hesitation Bo walked, to where The Master sat on a throne that was made of stone. Bo stopped inches in front of The Master and knelt down before him, his eyes cast to the ground. The Master reached out with one hand to stroke the side of Bo’s face.
     “Look at me Bo.”
Bo looked up at The Master his eyes empty and hallow.
“You have been led astray by mortals. You have killed some of your own kind . . . you have killed some of your family.” The Master said, speaking the last part with anger.
Without any warning The Master’s touch, that had been so gently only moments before grew rough, he smack Bo across the face with such force it knocked him to the ground.
Bo lay stunned and unmoving for a moment before slowly pulling himself back up into a knelling position.
“I am sorry.” Bo said, his words quiet and soft.
The Master glared at Bo with angry eyes. “You willing allowed yourself to led astray by those mortals and now you think just saying sorry will make everything okay?”
Bo looked up at The Master, he could hear a tiny voice in the back of his mind, his voice, screaming at him in fear to get away from The Master immediately, and to wait for Corik and Luke before trying to take The Master on. However no matter how loudly the voice screamed Bo didn’t listen to it, he couldn’t listen it, as much as he wanted to he found himself unable to do what he want and to only able obey The Master’s wishes. The Master grabbed Bo firmly by the chin and tipped Bo’s head back to look up at him. The Master smiled darkly as he stared into Bo’s eyes, he could see the emptiness and helplessness that showed in Bo’s eyes, but he could see deeper into Bo’s eyes, he could see the fear and the pain in Bo’s eyes. The Master closed his long fingers around Bo’s neck, and watched in merriment as Bo’s dark blue eyes shone with pain.
“It hurts, don’t it?” The Master asked, in a gleeful voice.
“Yes.” Bo replied, in a small voice.
“It will hurt worse before I am done. You will suffer for betraying your kind, betraying your family, betraying me.”
The Master smiled as Bo’s eyes filled with terror and he felt the youngster’s body begin to tremble in fear. The Master stood up still holding on tightly to Bo’s throat. Bo struggled to break free from The Master’s grasp as he felt himself being lifted from the ground. Bo’s feet dangled inches from the ground. The Master squeezed Bo’s neck tighter, bruising the tender flesh of his neck. The Master flung Bo’s body across the room at least twenty-five feet. Bo’s body slammed against a pile of rocks, sending a wave of pain through his entire body. Bo cried out in pain, and dropped limply to the ground unable to move. The Master walked over and stood inches from Bo.
“Stand up.” The Master said his voice demanding.
Bo didn’t want to, it sent pain through his whole body to move at all, but he found that he couldn’t disobey The Master’s command no matter how badly he wanted to. Bo stood before The Master, his whole body visibly trembling with fear and pain. He bit his bottom lip softly to stop it from trembling and to keep from crying out in pain. The Master stroked Bo’s hair with his hand, then clawed Bo’s face. Bo screamed in agony.
Luke froze, his whole body tensed, as he heard Bo’s cry. Fear clenched at his heart, Bo was in trouble, he just knew that The Master had Bo. Luke found his feet again and began to race down the tunnel towards where Bo’s cry had come from. Luke could see light from the brightly-lit cavern shining into the tunnel, only a couple hundred yards ahead of him, and he began to run faster. He prayed that he would get there in time to save Bo, he hadn’t heard Bo make any other sound and feared that he was already too late and Bo was dead. His mind raced with fear as he thought the cry he heard of Bo’s might have been the last sound he made before dying.
Luke reached the cavern and the sight that meet his eyes made him freeze in his tracks. Bo’s body was limp, and moved like a rag doll at The Master’s will. He wasn’t even touching Bo, just seeming to control his body like a puppeteer with unseen strings. Luke wondered if Bo was even still alive. Luke then caught the sound of a faint moan of pain, and knew that Bo was still alive, Luke gave a silent sigh of relief. The Master sensed Luke’s presence in the cavern, and a sinister smiled curled at the edge of his lips, and he began to handle Bo even rougher, seeming to crush Bo’s body. Bo made a soft whimpering noise as the pain intensified. Luke went to take a step forward, when he suddenly locked eyes with Bo. Bo looked at Luke, with pleading, pain filled eyes, beg Luke to help him. Luke could see the intense pain that Bo was experiencing reflecting in his eyes. Luke took a deep breath, and slowly releasing it he walked further into the cavern towards where The Master had Bo.
“Let go of my cousin.” Luke said firmly, his voice demanding.
The Master made a shoving movement with his hand, and some unseen force shoved Bo to the ground, breathing deeply, and trembling
“Do you actually think you can beat me mortal?” The Master asked.
Luke nodded. “Yes I do. I beat other vampires I can beat you.”
“I am more powerful then those you faced, just ask you cousin.” The Master said, then looked down at where Bo lay on the ground trembling. “Oh but I guess he isn’t much in the condition to be talking.”
Luke glared hateful at The Master. Luke raised his sword and lunged at The Master, intent on beheading him. However just before Luke reached him, The Master moved quickly, his body nothing more then a blur. He stood in front of his makeshift throne, smiling evilly at Luke. Luke was just about to lunge at The Master, when he heard a soft voice reach his ears. He turned and looked down Bo, wondering if he had just imagined it, then he heard it again, and saw Bo’s lips move ever so slightly.
     “Luke.”
Luke knelt down at Bo’s side.
“It’s okay Bo, I’m right here. I am not going to allow him to hurt you again.” Luke said.
Bo moved his head slightly and looked up at Luke. Luke brushed Bo’s blonde hair away from his eyes. Luke’s heart squeezed with sorrow as he looked into Bo’s dark blue eyes. Bo’s eyes were clouded with pain and fear. Bo opened his lips to say something else, but he found he didn’t have the strength, only a soft cough came out instead. Luke felt tears begin to fill his, pale blue, eyes but he swallowed them. He gently placed his hand on Bo’s shoulder.
“Everything is going to be okay cousin. I’ll get him for hurting you like this . . . and for what he did before. He will pay.”
Luke saw something dark pass over Bo’s eyes, like a dark storm cloud, then vanish slowly. Bo coughed and clenched his eyes shut as fresh pain tore through his body.
“Luke . . .” Bo said softly, his voice trailing off, as he opened his eyes to look at his older cousin.
Bo opened his mouth to speak, his lips moved slowly, but he found he couldn’t speak. He looked at Luke with helpless frightened eyes. Bo could feel his body growing weaker and weaker with each passing second. Luke looked down worriedly at Bo, momentarily forgetting about The Master.
“What is it Bo?” Luke asked softly, his voice edged with worry.
Bo’s eyes started to slowly drift shut, and he fought to keep them open, fearing that the worst would happen if he gave into the exhaustion. Seconds later Bo’s efforts to stay awake were futile, his body gave into the pain and exhaustion, his eyes slipped closed, not opening again.
“Bo.” Luke said worriedly, gently shaking his cousin.
No response came and pain of worry tugged at Luke’s heart, he feared that Bo was dead.
“Isn’t that a shame, he was such a young vampire.” The Master said his voice filled with sarcasm.
Luke stood up quickly, and spun around to face The Master. “You bastard. I am not going to let you get away with this.”
The Master laughed at Luke’s threat. “You can never defeat me mortal. Look how easily I destroyed your cousin and he is . . . or rather was immortal.”
The Master knew that Bo wasn’t really dead, but it was part of his plan to make Luke think that Bo was. He knew that the thought of Bo being dead would cloud Luke’s mind with rage, but more then that he would be filled with sadness. The Master knew that this would cloud Luke’s judgement thus making him an easier to destroy. Also it would also be more fun watch the mortal suffer, through what he thought was the loss of his cousin, The Master enjoyed watching mortals suffer both psychically and emotionally. The Master stood unmoving, unblinking as Luke charged at him. When Luke was inches in front of The Master, The Master raised his hand and backhanded Luke across the face. Luke stumbled back a couple paces and fell to the ground. Luke slowly began to pull himself back up to his feet, rubbing his aching jaw with his hand as he stood. Luke glared with hate filled eyes at The Master, who smiled in return. Luke raised the sword and rushed towards The Master again. As Luke swung the sword, The Master grabbed the blade of the sword, and closed his hand around it tightly. The Master started to pull the sword, away from Luke in a slow movement. Luke tried to hold on to the hilt of the sword tightly as he could, but he could feel it ever so slowly slipping from his grasp. Mere seconds later Luke lost his hold on the sword, The Master held the sword in his hand, by the blade, for a moment grinning smugly at Luke, then he tossed the sword across the room. The sword struck the wall, the blade imbedding itself into the rock. Luke stood unharmed as he faced The Master, his heart racing with fear, but he refused to give up, refused to allow The Master to go unpunished for what he did to Bo. Luke engaged The Master in hand to hand combat. The Master was able to block every punch and kick that Luke threw at him, not battling back. The Master then began to concentrate at speaking to Bo telepathically.
‘Bo get up now, do so quietly.’
Bo opened his eyes and slowly rose to his feet. He watched with wide eyes as Luke fought with The Master, wanting desperately to help Luke defeat The Master, but unable to do anything on his own freewill.
     ‘Attack this intruder mortal NOW!’
‘I will not attack my cousin.’
‘Do as I say Bo, attack Luke, attack and kill this mortal.’
Bo tried desperately to keep from giving into The Master’s will but soon found it was impossible. Bo walked up behind Luke and grabbed him by the shoulders pulling him backwards. Luke stumbled as he felt himself being jerked backwards, he pulled away from whoever was holding him from behind and turned to confront his new attacker. A surprised look spread across Luke’s eyes when he saw Bo standing before him.
“Bo . . . I thought he had killed you.” Luke said, his voice was filled with happiness to see his cousin alive, but was edge with confusion as to why Bo had grabbed him like that.
     “Kill him.” The Master demanded.
Before Luke could even react to what was happening Bo punched him hard in the stomach, causing him to stumble backwards. Luke looked at Bo, with wide shocked eyes.
“Bo . . .what are you doing?”
Bo didn’t respond he just stared at Luke with cold empty eyes. Bo grabbed Luke’s arm and flung him to the ground. Luke cried out in pain as his body struck the pile of rocks that lay on the cavern floor. Bo knelt down beside Luke, and placed his hand on Luke’s throat, to prepare to break it.
“Bo don’t do this, it’s me Luke, your cousin.”
Bo stared at Luke looking him straight in the eye. Luke saw Bo’s eyes looked to be in turmoil, there seemed to be a dark cloud behind Bo’s eyes, that was swirling like a hurricane.
“Luke . . .” Bo said softly, as he attempted to gain control of his own actions.
“KILL HIM!” The Master roared at Bo.
Bo shook his head. Luke looked up at his cousin, he figured The Master was trying to control Bo somehow but couldn’t figure out just how.
Bo looked down at Luke. “You have to get out of here Luke. You have to find Corik. You can’t take The Master on alone . . . it is not safe.”
“I ain’t exactly alone. You are here to.” Luke said.
Bo shook his head. “You have to leave here Luke it ain’t safe. I can’t help you. I . . . can’t . . .” Bo’s voice trailed off momentarily, he could hear The Master’s voice echoing in his mind to kill Luke. “He is in my head Luke, I have to do what he wants me to do.”
Luke could feel Bo’s fingers start to tighten around his throat as Bo started to give into The Master. “You can’t do this Bo. You are in control of your actions, your thoughts, and your destiny. He can not control you. You have to fight him.”
Bo’s grip loosened as he fought he gain control of his own actions. He could feel pain tearing through every inch of his body as he tried to keep from destroying his cousin, to keep from killing the person that meant the most to him. Luke sat up and placed his hands on Bo’s shoulder, he could see the turmoil and pain in Bo’s eyes, and his heart filled with pity for his little cousin.
“You can fight him Bo, you are stronger then him.” Luke said offering Bo words of encouragement as he fought The Master for control his mind.
‘Kill him Bo. Drink his blood. You know that you are thirsty, you haven’t feed in a while, you need to feed. You know how good his blood taste when you drank it before. Drink his blood, kill him.’
“No.” Bo mumbled softly, his features becoming vampire as he though of how hungry he was.
Bo thought of how The Master was right Luke’s blood has tasted good, though he refused to take his blood again, knowing that his time there was no way he could stop himself from taking too much and killing Luke.
“Satisfy your craving Bo, drink his blood.” The Master said.
Bo shook his head, fight the urge to feed with all the strength he could.
“Look at me Bo.” Luke said softly.
“No. Just leave here Luke, just go.” Bo said softly, trying to sound demanding.
“I am not going to leave you here alone with that demon Bo. Now look at me.” Luke said, his voice soft yet firm.
“Drink his blood Bo. You are a vampire you drink the blood of humans. He is a human drink his blood. I know you want to. You are thinking of how good his blood tasted the last time you drank it.” The Master said.
“Don’t listen to him Bo. Ignore him, look at me cousin.” Luke said.
After a moment, which felt like an eternity to Luke, Bo raised his head and looked at him. Bo’s eyes glowed green, and he licked his lips as he stared at his older cousin.
The Master smiled, and laughed sinisterly. Luke opened his lips to say something, but Bo raised a finger to motion for him to be quiet. Luke then saw a small mischievous smile, one that he was used to seeing on Bo, and knew that Bo was in control his own actions. The Master wasn’t aware that he no longer had control over Bo’s mind. Bo slowly stood up, his eyes never leaving Luke. Bo reached down and grabbed Luke by the shoulders. In a swift movement Bo hauled Luke to his feet, in what looked like a rough movement yet in a way that didn’t hurt Luke.
The Master smiled. “Good Bo, drain every drop of blood from that miserable mortal’s body.”
Bo pulled his lips back, as though preparing to sink his fangs into Luke’s throat.  Luke stood quietly as though he had given up fighting for his life. The Master laughed as he watched, thinking to himself how easy it was to break a human’s spirit. Bo leaned his head forward towards Luke’s neck, then in a lightening fast movement Bo spun around and lunged at The Master. Bo swung his fist and landed a solid blow against the side of The Master’s face. The Master looked surprised as he stumbled back a pace. Bo glared at The Master with narrow hateful eyes. The Master had a shocked expression on his face that Bo had attacked him, he thought he had control of Bo’s mind. The Master’s expression quickly changed from shock to anger.  Bo swung his fist at The Master again, but The Master moved quicker this time as he was expecting Bo to attack him. He grabbed Bo’s fist, squeezing it tightly Bo flinched as he felt his hand being crushed. Bo pulled his hand back, breaking free from The Master’s hold. The two of them stood with eyes locked, glaring at each other with anger and hate apparent in their eyes. The Master shot his hand and grabbed Bo around the throat, squeezing tightly and lifting Bo from the ground. Bo’s feet dangled an inch from the ground. Bo brought his hands up and tried to pry The Master’s fingers from his throat, but his efforts to break from The Master’s hold were in vain. The more that Bo struggled the tighter The Master squeezed his throat. Luke rushed forward to help Bo. The Master struck Luke across the face with his free hand; Luke stumbled backwards a couple feet and fell to the ground. The Master flung Bo across the room. Bo hit the wall with a resounding thud, and slid to the ground. Bo pulled himself to his feet, ignoring the stabbing pain that flowed through his whole body. Bo took a couple of staggering steps forward towards The Master.
“You are a traitor to your kind Bo. A traitor to you master.”
“I am not a traitor. I did not choose to be what I am now. I am not going to betray my true family just because you want me to. You are not my master, I am in control of my own life.”
The Master glared angrily at Bo. “How dare you speak to me in such insolent tones. You were nothing before you were made into a vampire.”
Bo shrugged his shoulders. “So what if I was nothing. I would rather be the way I was before then to be a demon like you.”
“You shall die for your betrayal.”
Bo shook his head and advanced towards The Master. “You are the one that is going to die.”
The Master smiled. “You don’t have the ability to kill me Bo. I am more powerful then you could ever hope to be. I have more power then you could comprehend.”
Bo rushed towards The Master, Luke watched, through blurry eyes, as the two of the exchanged blows. It was obvious that Bo was outmatched as he fought The Master, but it was also obvious that Bo was determined not to lose and there was no way he was going to give up fighting The Master. Bo ignored the pain that tore through his whole body. Luke slowly stood up, his head was throbbing and his legs threatened to give out from underneath him, but he shook it off the best he could. Luke watched Bo fight The Master, wishing there was some way that he could help, but knowing there was no way he could fight The Master in hand to hand to combat. From the corner of his eye, Luke caught sight of the sword that was still embedded in the wall. Luke knew he had to get the sword and behead The Master, and figured it was the best time to try to get the sword because The Master was preoccupied with his fight with Bo. Luke staggered towards the sword, his staggering like the walk of a drunk. Luke closed both his hands around the hilt of the sword, and pulled it, but the sword was embedded firmly into the rock. Luke took a deep breath and pulled the sword harder, the sword slid out slightly. Luke glanced over at The Master and Bo, who were still engaged in combat, Luke could tell that Bo didn’t look like he could hold out much longer. Luke turned back to focus on pulling the sword from the wall, which was slowly sliding out from the wall.
The Master landed a firm blow into Bo’s stomach, and Bo’s body crumpled to the ground. Bo had lost the strength to fight The Master for any longer, he felt completely drained of energy. Bo moaned softly as he fought to keep darkness from over taking his mind. His body was alive with pain. Bo’s head was moving in slow jerking motions as he tried to find the strength to pull himself back to his feet, but it was too much effort to even open his eyes. The Master started to knell down beside Bo, to finish him off, at the same time Luke managed to pull the sword from the wall. Luke turned to see Bo laying nearly unconscious on the floor and The Master hovering over him.
Luke hurried over to where his cousin lay, unseen by The Master. Luke stopped beside The Master, and placed the sword against his throat.
“Get away from him.” Luke said in a low demanding voice.
The Master looked up at Luke, surprised to see that the mortal had managed to pull the sword from the wall. Though The Master hid his surprise and smiled evilly at Luke. He stood up and faced Luke.
“It makes no difference to me which one of you I kill first.”
“The only one that is going to be killed is you.”
The Master laughed, as though Luke had just told a hilarious joke. He took a couple of steps away where Bo lay on the floor, still try desperately to fight off unconsciousness.
Luke held the sword firmly between his hands, carefully watching The Master, trying to anticipate his attack. The Master just seemed to stand like a statue, his eyes hard and cold. Luke swung the sword at The Master, just narrowly missing his neck. The sword sliced downwards across his chest. The wound healed itself instantaneously. The Master laughed.
“Foolish mortal, you can never destroy me.”
     “I can and I will.”
The Master flew towards Luke, striking Luke in the stomach with his fist. Luke stumbled backwards, coughing slightly, having had the wind knocked out of him from the force of The Master’s punch. The Master struck Luke again, knocking him backward into the wall. Luke raised the sword to try to cut The Master’s head off. The Master shot his hands out, closing them around Luke’s. Luke struggled to break from The Master’s hold as he twisted the sword around so the blade faced Luke. Luke struggled to pull away, twisting his body to avoid being impaled by the sharp blade of the sword. As much as he tried to escape his efforts were in vain. The blade of the sword tore the flesh of his leg. Luke cried out in pain as the sword plunged through the front of his leg coming out the back. The Master stepped back from Luke, and laughed evilly.
“I told you that you will never win mortal. Give up this pathetic attempt at trying and just die.”
Tears of pain shimmered in Luke’s eyes, but he refused to allow them to flow. He took a deep breath and bit his bottom lip as he pulled the sword out of his leg. The Master watched, his eyes reflecting surprise, that a mortal could be so strong and fight to live the way this one was.
“You are the one who won’t win.” Luke said, grimacing against the pain that shot through his leg like fire as he took a step forward towards The Master.
Luke raised the sword, which was dripping with his blood, and pointed it at The Master.
“You shall pay for the evil and torment that you have plagued the world with.”
“That is unlikely. You will die, so will your cousin and all off humanity.”
“Go to hell.” Luke said coldly and swung the sword at The Master.
This time Luke struck The Master’s neck with the sword. The Master’s eyes went wide with shock as the sword sliced into his neck. The Master began to shriek in a high pitched tone, that caused Luke’s ears to ring in pain, the shriek echoed off the walls of the cavern, seeming to grow louder as the sword continued to slice through his throat. Luke lowered the sword once slicing through The Master’s throat, and watched as The Master’s head rolled onto the ground, his dead eyes, glassy, as they stared up at Luke. The Master’s head and body became engulfed in flames that smelled of sulphur and brimstone, the fire of hell. The flames reflected on the walls of the cavern, dancing and twisting, as they burned The Master’s body to ash.
Within seconds The Master was no more then a pile of dust. Luke gave a sigh of relief, and his thoughts turned to Bo. The Master was dead, that meant Bo was once again human. Luke turned to look at Bo, who had stopped moving. Luke could see Bo’s chest slowly rising and falling and knew that he was breathing.
“Bo . . .” Luke said, his voice trailed off, as Bo began to make a deep gasping sound, Luke’s eyes widened with worry, and he rushed over towards Bo.
Bo gave another deep gasp and then fell silent, Luke noticed that his chest had stopped rising and falling, knowing it meant one thing, Bo had stopped breathing.
Luke knelt down beside Bo and quickly checked for a pulse, finding none. Luke’s mind raced with fear as he started CPR. Luke locked his hands together and motioned them over Bo’s heart, and started a slow and steady pumping motioning to try to get Bo’s heart beating again. He counted out loud, his voice trembling.
“C’mon Bo, you can’t die. Don’t you dare leave me.”
Luke tipped Bo’s head back and blew a breath into Bo’s mouth, trying to get him to breathe. Luke knew he had to work quickly to bring Bo back to life or he would be lost. Luke continued to do CPR for three minutes.
Corik walked into the cavern. He saw Luke performing CPR on Bo and rushed over and knelt down on the other side of Bo.
     “What happened?” Corik asked.
“We found The Master. Bo and him fought and Bo got hurt quite bad he couldn’t hold up against The Master. I finally managed to behead him . . . then Bo started to breathe and then stopped.”
Corik nodded slightly understanding what was going on. “His body couldn’t adjust.”
     “What do you mean?”
“When you killed The Master Bo became human again. But his body had trouble making the transition from vampire to human. Probably due to his injures he didn’t have the strength the change took. His body tried and failed, that is why he stopped breathing. He couldn’t cross back over the living.”
Luke listened to what Corik was saying as he continued to perform CPR. He fought back the tears that burned in his eyes.     “There is still a chance to save him though, right?”
Corik sighed. “I really don’t know. While he was a vampire his body was technically dead. Since he wasn’t able to cross back over on his own it is hard to say.”
Luke felt a couple tears slide down his cheeks. “You have to come back to us Bo. You can’t die. Do you hear me Bo you can’t die.”
“How long has it been?” Corik asked.
     “I don’t know . . . four maybe five minutes.”
“It has been too long Luke. There is nothing more you can do.” Corik said calmly, placing a hand on Luke shoulder.
Luke shrugged Corik’s hand from his shoulder, ignoring what he had just said, continuing to try save his younger cousin’s life.     “C’mon Bo you can’t die. YOU CAN’T DIE!”
Corik tried to pull Luke away from Bo, but couldn’t get him to move; he saw the tears streaking the young man’s face. His heart filled with pity for Luke having lost Bo, and grief that they hadn’t been able to save Bo.
Luke’s vision was blurred with tears, which steadily streaked his cheeks. “Please don’t die Bo.”
Suddenly Bo took a deep breath, and started to breathe shallowly, his bottom lip trembling with each breath.  Luke felt a wave of relief wash over his body.
“C’mon on wake up.” Luke said softly.
Bo moaned softly and opened his eyes, looking up at Luke, and smiled.
“It’s good to have you back Bo.” Luke said.
     “Feels good to be back.”
“How you feeling kid?” Corik asked.
“Kinda like I’ve been hit by a truck.”
Luke helped Bo up to a sitting position and gave him a brotherly hug, which Bo returned.
“I really thought I was going to lose you.” Luke said.
Bo sat back and smiled. “Nah, you can’t get rid of me that easily.”
Luke laughed; glad to see that Bo hadn’t lost his sense of humour from everything that had happened to him. As Luke stood up a hot stabbing pain shot through his injured leg, that during all the excitement he had forgot all about, he would’ve fell to the ground but Bo caught him.
     “Are you okay?” Bo asked.
Luke nodded slightly, ignoring the fiery pain that consumed his whole leg. Corik tore the bottom edge of his shirt off and tied it tightly around Luke’s leg to try to slow the bleeding. Bo stood up and Luke put his arm around Bo’s shoulders and leaned on him. All three of them felt as though it had been the longest and roughest night of their lives; they were all battered, bruised and extremely tired. They slowly started to towards the exit of the cavern, when suddenly everything around them began to shake. Large chunks of rock fell from the ceiling, crashing to the ground.
“This place is going to cave in. We have to get out of here.” Corik said.
Luke moved fast as he could on his injured leg, still leaning on Bo. Corik was waiting by the exit of the cavern for them. The cavern was starting to fill with dust, from everything that was crumbling all around them, making it hard to see and breathe. After a couple moments Bo and Luke reached where Corik stood waiting, and the three of moved into the tunnels of the catacombs, which had also stared to cave in. They were no more then a few feet from the cavern when the entrance caved in. They rushed almost blindly through the tunnels prayer of luck and memory, of how they reached that cavern, to led them to the surface. After five minutes they saw a crack of light up ahead, their spirits were lifted with the prospect of getting out of the collapsing catacombs. As they grew closer they saw it was indeed the exit from the catacombs. They were about ten feet from the exit when a huge section of ceiling caved in blocking most of the tunnel off, and knocking Corik to the ground. Bo and Luke rushed over to where Corik lay, pinned beneath the rocks. Corik clenched his teeth together against the pain as Bo and Luke moved the rocks that pinned him to the ground. He could feel one of the larger rocks grinding against his leg, crushing the bone. Bo and Luke moved quickly as they dug Corik out from where he lay trapped, praying that there would not be another cave in. they couldn’t lift the last rock off of Corik’s leg. His right leg was pinned beneath a large chunk of rock, that Bo and Luke couldn’t lift more then a couple inches.
“Do you think you can crawl out from underneath if we lift the rock up a ways?” Bo asked.
Corik shook his head. “I doubt it I can barely feel me leg anymore so I doubt that I’d be able to move it at all.”
“Okay. I’ll lift the rock and Luke you pull him out from under it.”
Luke nodded and carefully picked Corik slightly; from underneath his arms, and waited for Bo to lift the rock. Bo lifted the rock a couple inches off of Corik and Luke started to pull Corik out from under it.
“Hurry it up I can’t hold this rock up like this much longer.”
Luke started to pull Corik out at a quicker pace, ignoring the pain that shot through his own leg. As soon a Corik was away from the rock, Bo dropped it to the ground. Corik’s pant leg was torn and they see the bruised and swelling flesh.
“How are we going to get out of here?” Luke asked.
“There is space between the rocks and the top of the tunnel I can climb up there and make the hole bigger, then maybe we can get out.” Bo said.
“My leg hurts way too much to climb up the pile of rocks. I’d never make it and neither would Corik.” Luke said.
“Once I move some of those rocks I could help the two of you up there and we can get out the other side.” Bo said.
“How are we suppose to get down the other side?” Luke asked.
Bo shrugged. “I don’t know. But I do know that if we just sit around here we are dead. We have to try.”
“Bo has a point.” Corik said.
Luke nodded and Bo began to climb up the pile of rocks. The rocks shifted and slide beneath Bo’s weight as he continued to climb up the loose pile of rocks.
“Be careful.” Luke called out, hoping that the rocks wouldn’t give out from under Bo, causing him to fall and become injured, leaving them with no way to escape.
“I am being careful.” Bo called back down; as he did he almost lost his balance and fell. Bo regained his balance and took a deep breath and continued to climb. Once he reached the top he pushed some of the rocks through to the other side, and looked down the tunnel the rest of the way was still clear, he could hear distant sounds in the rest of tunnels of areas caving in and knew that he had to hurry. A couple minutes later Bo slid back down to where Luke and Corik waited.
“We have to go for it now, it sounds like the rest of this place is fixing to cave in any minute.” Bo said.
Corik motioned to Luke to go first, Luke slowly stood up, the pain in his leg had grown worse and he could barely stand on it.
“Do you think you can climb at all?” Bo asked.
     “I don’t know. I’ll try.”
“I’ll make sure you don’t fall.”
Luke nodded and slowly started to make his way up the rocks, ignoring the hot stabbing pain in his leg, knowing that he had to keep going if he wanted to live. Bo was just behind him and slightly to the right so the he could catch Luke easily if he started to fall. After excruciating minutes Luke reached the top. Bo helped him over the edge. Luke carefully slid down the other side. He went a couple feet from the pile of rocks and leaned against the wall. Exhausted, Luke slid down the wall to a sitting position and waited for Bo and Corik.
Bo went back down where Corik was sitting.
     “You ready?”
“There is no way that I can climb up there my leg is broken, in several places I think.”
“And there is no way I could carry you and climb.”
“You should just leave me here and you and Luke get out safe.”
     “That is not an option.”
Bo sighed slightly as he tried to think of how he could get Corik up and over the rocks.
“I’m gonna have to try to carry you.” Bo said.
Bo helped Corik stand up slightly, and Corik latched his arms around Bo’s neck, from behind.  Carefully Bo began to climb up the rocks again, finding it much harder with the extra weight. Bo slowly made his way up; feeling the rocks threatening to give away from the weight that was being forced on them. Finally they reached the top. Luke was sitting watching waiting, he had begun to think that something had happened, he breathed a sigh of relief when he saw them.
Bo made his way down the other side and over to where Luke sat.
“Took you long enough. I was starting to get worried.” Luke said.
“Sorry, took longer then I thought it would. Now let’s get out of here.” Bo replied.
Bo gave Luke a hand to stand and they moved quickly as they could through the exit, into the mausoleum. They were just out of the mausoleum, when it crashed to the ground in a mighty rumble that seemed to shake everything. Birds flew scared from the trees, crying out as they flew across the morning the sky. Bo set Corik down and the three of them looked at the debris.
“Looks like we made it out of there just in time.” Luke said.
Bo and Corik nodded in agreement. None of them seemed to notice that it was morning at first.  Bo was the first to notice that the sun had risen, the warmth of the sun feeling good as it shone on his face.
“Feels good to be able to be in sun again.” Bo said happily.
“I didn’t realise that we were down there for so many hours. Uncle Jesse must be worried sick.” Luke said.
Bo nodded. “Yeah. I think first thing we should do though is to get the two of you to a doctor.”
They made their way into town to Dr. Appleby’s office. He was just arriving at work. He noticed they all looked to be badly injured.
“What happened?” Dr. Appleby asked, there was genuine concern in his voice.
“It is a very long story and I don’t really think now is the time to go into it.” Bo said.
Dr. Appleby looked shocked as Bo started to leave.
“Where are you going?” Dr. Appleby asked.
“To go get Uncle Jesse.” Bo responded.
“But you need medical attention.” Dr. Appleby said.
“I’ll be back shortly. Just concentrate on help them first.” Bo said, and disappeared from sight.
Jesse sat staring out the window, wondering if Bo and Luke were okay and fearing the worst. It had been so many hours that he feared they had failed to kill The Master and had been killed themselves. He watched as the sky grew brighter and brighter, losing hope that they would return with each passing minute. Suddenly, he caught sight of someone moving through the trees coming towards the house. He was almost holding his breath, waiting for the person to come into view. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Bo, then started to wonder why it was just Bo. Then another thought entered his mind, Bo was outside in the daylight and it meant one thing he was human again, they had killed The Master. Jesse rushed out on to the porch to greet Bo. As Bo walked up onto the porch Jesse pulled him into a hug, which Bo returned.
“I was so worried.” Jesse said softly. “Where is Luke and Corik?
Bo stepped back and looked at his uncle. “They are in town at Dr. Appleby’s.”
“What? Why? Are they okay?” Jesse asked, his voice was edged with worry.
“It is a long story. They’ll be fine.” Bo said.
“Are you okay?” Jesse asked, thinking that Bo didn’t look too good.
“I am fine. Though Dr. Appleby seemed to think I should’ve stayed there, but I had to come back here and tell ya that everything turned out fine.” Bo said.
Jesse smiled. “Well let’s get into town and have the doc look you over.”
     “Yes sir.”
Dr. Appleby kept Bo, Luke and Corik over night for observation and the next day they were realised. He told Luke to stay off his leg for at least two weeks, walking on it like he had and aggravated the injury. Since they had to stay at the doctor’s office over night they never had a chance to tell Jesse about what had happened, not wanting to be over heard by anyone. They all went back to Corik’s, were they spent most the day telling Jesse about what had happened down in the catacombs.
Weeks passed and Luke’s leg held, and did all of his and Bo’s injuries. Everything that happened seemed to be more like a bad dream, and like a bad dream the memory of it started fad.  They rarely talked about what had happened and soon started to forget it ever had happened. Both Bo and Luke had the occasional bad dream with images of some of the things that had happened, dreams that they never remembered upon waking, dreams that didn’t seem real. Six months later they had no memories at all of the events that took place; it was as though it never occurred. They got on with their lives and things went back to normal.
