A black car sped along the highway towards Hazzard County, it was his second trip to Hazzard, the last time he was there he revealed himself to be Judd Kane, Luke Duke’s long lost younger brother. Things had not gone the way he had planned the last time, they had almost went his way and surely would’ve if Tex Tomkins hadn’t shown up. Judd smiled thinking to himself that this time things surely would go his way and he would have the life he wanted, he knew that the only obstacle that might stand in his way was Luke’s younger cousin Bo. An evil smile curled on his lips as he thought what he would do if Bo stood in the way or interfered at all with his plans, and in a twisted way he actually hoped that would happen. Remembering how Luke had acted the last time he was there, he knew it would be easy to come between the two cousin, Luke had seemed to ignore Bo and toss him aside as his baby brother had returned after years of being thought dead. Judd smiled believing that Luke would never really discover the truth. Judd’s car sped past a highway sign that read: Hazzard County 30.
On the far side of the Duke barn, in the shade, Bo and Luke Duke were washing a thick layer of red dirt off of their car, General Lee, that had accumulated on the car during the last race, covering up most of the car’s bright orange paint job.
“Nice to know there is still a car under all this mud.” Luke joked.
“Yeah, I kinda forget what colour he was.” Bo said.
They were just finishing washing all the mud off the car when a black sedan pulled up to the house, the windows were tinted so they couldn’t see who was in the car. Bo looked at Luke questioningly, Luke knew what Bo’s question was as clear as if he had spoken it, and only shrugged, having no idea whose car was it. Bo and Luke walked towards the strange car, wondering who it was. Luke smiled widely when the driver of the car stepped out, his brother Judd. Bo frowned slightly, he didn’t care much for Judd, feeling as though Judd was hiding something and Judd seemed too anxious to take his place and Luke didn’t seem to notice or care. Bo sighed and figured it was just because Judd had showed up so suddenly after years of thinking he was dead, Bo knew that Luke would never intentionally do anything to hurt him. Bo followed slowly after, who was practically running towards Judd.
“Hey there little brother.” Luke said.
     “Hey Luke.”
Luke and Judd exchanged a brotherly hug. Bo walked over and stood to the right of Luke.
     “Hello Judd.”
     “Hello Bo.”
The air between the two young men was tense, both having a strong dislike of each other, though, this went unnoticed by Luke as he was too glad to be seeing his younger brother once again.
The three of them walked into the house, and sat down in the front room.
“Where’s Uncle Jesse and Daisy?” Judd asked.
“They had to go to Atlanta, they be back later today.” Luke said. “How long are you here for?”
“Two weeks, at least.” Judd said.
     “That’s great.” Luke said.
“I decided I just had to take some time off of boxing and get to know you better, brother. I never seem to have enough time to really keep in touch and we have so many lost years to catch up on.” Judd said.
     “That’s for sure.” Luke said.
Bo sat near the window and glanced out across the yard, wishing that he had gone to Atlanta with Jesse and Daisy, or rather that both he and Luke had gone so nobody would’ve been home when Judd just showed up like he had.
“I say we all should just go down to the Boar’s Nest for two . . . three beer.” Luke said.
“Yeah I say we should.” Judd said stressing heavily on the “we”, and Bo knew that we did not include him.
Luke and Judd started towards the door and then Luke stopped and turned to look at Bo.
“Are you coming or are you just going to sit there all day?” Luke asked.
Bo just shrugged and stood up and walked over to where Luke and Judd where standing. Luke dismissed Bo’s quiet behavior, thinking that if anything was wrong Bo would say something, and he was too wrapped up in seeing his brother again to give it a second thought.
The Boar’s Nest was quite busy when they arrived, but the managed to find a table in the back corner.
“Must be the Mill’s payday, it normally ain’t this busy in here.” Luke said.
Judd shrugged. “That’s okay brother, it ain’t too bad in here, the bars in California are a lot worse, and it ain’t too noisy that we can’t talk.”
They sat and talked for nearly a half-hour, Bo barely said two words. Bo noticed a girl, Sabrina, who he had gone with a couple of times, and went over to talk to her, leaving Luke and Judd alone.
“You know I don’t think that Bo likes me very much.” Judd said, actually knowing it was the truth, but he wanted to test Luke’s opinion.
“I don’t know about that, I think that no matter what Bo would go and talk to Sabrina . . . not that I blame him.” Luke said, Sabrina was one of the prettiest girls in Hazzard.
“He just seems to not talk very much to me.” Judd said, hopeful that he could find some way to drive a wedge between the two cousins.
Luke shrugged. “That’s just the way Bo can be at times, don’t take it personally.”
Judd forced a fake smile, even though he was disappointed that his first attempt had failed. “If you say so.”
Bo listened to Sabrina tell him all about her three day modeling job, though his mind was so lost in his own thoughts that he barely heard two words that she said.
“You know Bo Duke I don’t think that you have been listening to one word that I’ve said.” Sabrina said.
     “What was that?”
“I said I don’t think you’ve been listening to what I have been saying . . . guess I was right.” Sabrina said.
“I’m sorry I really didn’t mean to be doing that . . . I guess I got too much on my mind is all.” Bo said.
Sabrina smiled. “Well, I’ll let you get away with it this time . . . just because you’re so cute.”
Bo gave a halfhearted smile, from where he sat he could still hear Judd and Luke laughing.
“You really must have a lot on your mind, want to talk about it?”
Bo shook his head. “Not really.”
“Who’s that with Luke?” Sabrina asked.
“Judd Kane. Luke’s . . . brother.” Bo said, his voice edged with hate as he spoke Judd’s name.
“I didn’t know Luke had a brother. Though I thought when I first moved here that you and Luke were brothers.” Sabrina said.
“It’s a long story.” Bo said.
“One you don’t want to talk about?”
Bo shrugged. “I don’t I guess I still don’t accept it . . . there is something just not right with Judd’s whole story.”
“You don’t like him very much do you?” Sabrina asked.
“Not really, I know he don’t care much for me either so I guess we’re even.”
“Are you sure it ain’t just jealousy that Luke is spending time with Judd and not you?” Sabrina asked.
Bo shook his head. “That ain’t it, I mean Luke ain’t been ignoring me or anything when Judd is around . . . he is just so taken in by anything Judd says or does, he don’t notice that me and Judd don’t get along.” Bo said.
“Have you talked to Luke about it?” Sabrina asked.
“No, I ain’t gonna neither.” Bo said.
Bo sat talking to Sabrina for another hour, trying hard to ignore Judd and Luke. Bo didn’t notice Luke walk over to the table.
“Hey cousin, you ready to go, we figure that Uncle Jesse and Daisy should be back anytime now.” Luke said.
“Yeah sure.” Bo said, he got and started to follow Luke, when Sabrina put her hand on his arm and stopped him.
“If you need to talk about “anything” just call me okay?”
Bo smiled and nodded, grateful for her understanding. “Yeah thanks.”
On the drive back to the farm, Bo sat in the backseat of the General, while Luke drove and Judd sat in the passenger seat.  Bo couldn’t help but feel excluded from the conversation between Judd and Luke, as he couldn’t even get a word in edgewise, and gave up even trying. He knew Judd was intentionally shut him out of the conversation, so he sat and stared out the side window instead.
The General Lee pulled to a stop in front of the Duke farm at the exact same time as the pick up truck.
“Talk about good timing.” Judd said.
Luke and Judd climbed out through the windows of the car, Bo followed behind slowly. A look of surprise spread across both Jesse’s and Daisy’s faces when they saw Judd.
“Hey Judd.” Daisy greeted him cheerfully as she ran over to where he stood and gave him a hug. “It’s great to see you again cousin.”
     “Likewise.” Judd said.
Jesse was next to greet Judd, giving him a large hug. “How come you didn’t call to let us know you was a comin’?”
“I wanted it to be a surprise.” Judd said.
“Well it most defiantly was.” Jesse said. “Now let’s get on inside, I’ll cook us up some crawdad bisque.”
Everyone walked into the small farmhouse, Bo being the last even though he wanted to just get in the General and drive away, not returning until Judd was gone, he doubted that anyone would even notice that he was gone.
Luke, Judd and Daisy sat in the front room talking. Bo stopped in the kitchen.
“I’ll help you make dinner Uncle Jesse.” Bo said.
“No, that’s okay you can go in there and talk.” Jesse said.
Bo shook his head. “I think I’d rather be in here.”
Jesse gave Bo a quizzically look. “Is everything okay?”
“Oh yeah, everything is just fine.” Bo said.
“Did something happen that I ain’t aware of?”
“No sir, it’s just . . .” Bo said his voice trailing off, he wasn’t sure he wanted to discuss how he felt about Judd with his uncle.
     “Just what?” Jesse asked.
     “It’s nothing.” Bo said.
“Now why do I doubt that?”
Bo shrugged. “It’s just something I’d rather not discuss right now.”
“Okay fine, just know I’ll be willing to listen whenever you want to talk.” Jesse said.
“I know.” Bo said, though he doubted that time would ever come, he figured if he ever did say anything that Jesse would only accuse him of being jealous of Judd.
Nobody seemed to notice Bo’s silence during the meal, as they were all too busy asking Judd questions and listening so intently to all the stories he had to tell.  Bo didn’t feel very hungry at all and sat pushing the food around on his plate. He tried to tell himself that he was being foolish and perhaps that he was a little of how much attention Luke was paying to Judd, but he couldn’t help but feel that Judd was trying to replace and that nobody seemed to notice, especially Luke.
After dinner Daisy and Bo cleaned up the dishes. As Daisy cleared the table she noticed that most the food was still on Bo’s plate.
“Are you feeling okay?” Daisy asked.
     “I feel fine.” Bo said.
“You barely ate a single bite of food.” Daisy said.
“I just ain’t feeling very hungry.” Bo said.
“Maybe you’re coming down with something.” Daisy said, and lightly pressed her hand against Bo’s forehead to check for any sign of a fever.
     “No, it’s nothing.” Bo said.
Daisy shrugged. “If you say so Bo.”
Bo really wasn’t lying to Daisy, he did feel fine in the sense that he was not sick at all, it was just more his nerves. There was still something about Judd that bothered him, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it, and what it was nobody else seemed to notice.
Bo went to bed early that night, though not because he was tired, he merely didn’t want to be around Judd. He was still awake when Luke and Judd came into the room. Judd slept on the floor, on the far side of Luke’s bed. Bo was lying on his side, facing away from Luke’s bed, and acted as though he was asleep.
“So brother, what do you want to do tomorrow?” Judd asked.
     “I don’t know.” Luke replied.
“I was just thinking that the two of us should do something, alone. You know, get a chance to really know one another, catch up on all the lost years.” Judd said.
“Yeah that would be great.” Luke said.
“I really feel that I have been cheated out of knowing you. We are brothers and I feel that I barely know you.” Judd said.
“I know how you feel.” Luke said.
“It’s great to finally have a brother.” Judd said.
     “I agree.” Luke said.
Bo closed his eyes tightly, in a way he felt hurt by Luke’s words. He had always thought of Luke as a brother, and assumed his older cousin had felt the same way, though now it didn’t seem like that. Luke seemed agree with everything Luke said. Bo felt that Judd was trying to take his place and Luke neither notice nor cared. Bo listened to the two brothers talk for several more hours, before he finally drifted into a restless sleep.
By the time Bo awoke the next morning, Luke and Judd were already gone. Bo walked into the kitchen, where Daisy and Jesse sat at the table.
     “Good Morning Bo.” Daisy said.
“What’s so good about it?” Bo mumbled.
“What?” Daisy asked, having not quite heard what Bo said.
     “Where’d Luke and Judd go?”
“They went off to spend the day together, try to make up for all the lost years.” Daisy said.
“They left quite early so could you do Luke’s chores today?” Jesse asked.
“Yes sir.” Bo said, his voice lacked any emotion, he wished that Luke had at least bothered to do his chores before abandoning him all day to be with Judd.
Bo walked towards the door to go out to the barn to take care of the chores.
“Do you want some breakfast before you do the chores?” Jesse asked.
Bo shook his head. “No, I ain’t hungry.”
“You barely ate any dinner last night, you should eat some breakfast.” Daisy said.
     “I ain’t hungry.” Bo said.
“Are you feeling okay?” Jesse asked, with a touch of concern to his voice.
“I feel fine. I am just not hungry.” Bo said.
Nothing further was said, and Bo walked outside. He frowned when he saw that Luke had taken the General, leaving him with no car, he thought they could’ve at least taken Judd’s car.
Bo finished up with the chores in the barn and washed up and then began to work on the tractor. His mind was elsewhere and working on the tractor seemed like a tedious task, as well as something he couldn’t focus on. He kept telling himself that Judd was only going be there for two weeks and as soon as he left things would go back to normal between him and Luke. Then he remembered Judd had said at least two weeks, and wondered what he would do if Judd decided to stay in Hazzard permanently.  Bo was so busy thinking about that, that he wasn’t watching what he was doing, and screwdriver slipped, and cut his left hand. Bo cursed under his breath, with words he’d never allow his uncle to hear him say. Bo clamped his right hand tightly over the gash and went into the house, trying not to drip any blood on the floor, though it was already dripping down and staining the cuff of his shirt.
Daisy came into the kitchen, and saw Bo running cold water over his hand.
     “What happened?” Daisy asked.
“I slipped and cut my hand.” Bo said.
“I’ll go get the first aid kit out of the bathroom.” Daisy said.
     “Thanks.” Bo said.
Daisy returned a moment later, carrying the first aid kit, setting it down on the counter next to the sink.
“Let me see it.” Daisy said taking Bo’s hand, and looking at the cut, with almost a motherly touch. “It looks quite deep. You might need stitches.”
Daisy took out a bottle of antiseptic from the first aid kit. “This might sting a little bit.”
Bo bit his bottom lip and took a deep breath, as Daisy poured it over the bleeding cut. “That stings a lot.”
“Sorry. I think you need stitches. Uncle Jesse went into town to pick some stuff up, so I’ll take you in Dixie, just try not to bleed too much in her.” Daisy said.
“Well, I wouldn’t want to do that, so maybe I’ll just walk there.” Bo said.
Daisy frowned, she stopped wrapping gauze around his hand and looked at her younger cousin. “Don’t be ridiculous Bo.”
Bo only shrugged, then followed her out to the jeep.
Bo needed four stitches, and never said a single word to Daisy to entire trip to and from the doctor’s office. Jesse was arriving back home at the same time as them.
     “What happened?” Jesse asked.
“Bo cut his hand and needed stitches.” Daisy said.
“How’d you do that?” Jesse asked.
     “Fixin’ the tractor.”
“Perhaps it was because of hunger considering how little you’ve eaten lately.” Daisy said.
“I told you before I ain’t hungry.” Bo said, sounding quite agitated.
“Now Bo, you got no call to snap at Daisy like that, you should be grateful that she was here to take you to get stitches.” Jesse said.
     “I could’ve walked.” Bo said.
     “Not likely.” Daisy said.
“So maybe I’d just stayed here and bleed to death, not like anyone would notice.”
“Just what is your problem Bo?” Daisy asked.
     “I don’t have a problem.” Bo said.
“Yeah right Bo.” Daisy said. “Is this because Judd is here?”
Bo didn’t reply.
“That’s it isn’t it you’re jealous of the time that Luke is spending with Judd.” Daisy said.
“Don’t go telling me how I feel. I am not jealous of that snake.” Bo said.
“Bo watch your mouth.” Jesse said sternly.
“I knew you were just being jealous of Judd.” Daisy said.
“I ain’t jealous.” Bo said and walked away from the farm.
Daisy went to go after him, when Jesse put his hand on her arm to stop her.
“Just let him go Daisy. I think Bo is just feeling a little unwanted. Him and Luke usually spend a lot of time with each other, and now that Judd is around he is feeling a little ignored, I wouldn’t really call it jealousy, just more left out.” Jesse said.
“Do you think Luke knows?” Daisy said.
“I doubt that Luke means to be leaving Bo out, he is just so happy to have Judd in his life that he just wants to make up for last time.” Jesse said.
“Think we should tell Luke about this?” Daisy asked.
Jesse shook his head. “No, I think this is something that the boys have to work out for themselves. I think that if they all spend some time together that Bo and Judd would become good friends.”
It was much later at night, by the time Bo returned to the farm.
“About time you got home.” Jesse said.
Bo shrugged, and thought to himself ‘Not like anyone missed me.’
“We saved you some dinner.” Jesse said.
     “I ain’t hungry.” Bo said.
“You didn’t eat breakfast, and Daisy said you barely ate any dinner last night, so you are going to eat this, even if I have to force feed it to you.” Jesse said.
     “Yes sir.” Bo said.
Bo heated the food in the oven and sat down at the table to eat. He looked into the front room and saw Luke and Judd playing a game of checkers by the fire, talking and laughing. Bo thought that Luke didn’t even notice he was there, and seemed to care less if he was there or gone. Bo didn’t feel much like eating, but knew he had little choice, he finished eating and went to bed, wondering if Luke remembered about the special NASCAR race that was tomorrow, they had bought the tickets a month ago, though Bo doubted that Luke remembered.
The next morning Bo overheard Luke and Judd talking about the race.
“Did you hear about the big race in Atlanta today?” Judd asked.
“Oh I forget all about that.” Luke said.
“I would love to go see that race.” Judd said, he had gone through things in the boys bedroom and had seen the tickets. “But it is sold out.”
“Well we have tickets.” Luke said.
“Really?” Judd questioned with fake surprise.
“Yeah, but one is Bo’s, we were gonna go to it.” Luke said.
“I have never seen a big NASCAR race. I bet you and Bo have been to quite a few.” Judd said, and sighed deeply. “But you go on ahead with out me.”
“We have been to quite a few. I am sure Bo wouldn’t mind if I took you this time. Me and him can just go to a different race another time.”
Judd smiled. “Really? That sounds great, I’d love to go to a NASCAR race with my big brother.”
“I’ll just have Bo give you the ticket. I could pay him for it later . . . when I have some money . . . or just pay for his ticket next time.” Luke said.
Bo frowned, as he listened to the conversation, he couldn’t believe that Luke was so quick to give away his ticket, they were suppose to have been spending the day together and he was going to just ditch him the same way he had yesterday. Bo walked over to where Luke and Judd stood, acting as though he hadn’t heard them talking.
“Hey Bo, I need to ask you a favour.” Luke said.
“Really? And what would that be?” Bo asked.
“Give Judd your ticket to the race today.” Luke said.
“But we were suppose to be going.” Bo said.
“We’ve been lots of races, Judd’s never been to single race.” Luke said.
“Well that’s his problem, not mine.” Bo said.
“Oh c’mon Bo. We’ve been lots of races, and we can go to the next race.” Luke said.
“I bought the ticket.” Bo said.
“I could pay you back for it later, or just pay for the tickets next time.” Luke said. “Judd really wants to go.”
“Yeah well so do I.” Bo said flatly.
“C’mon Bo, just give Judd your ticket. It’s not like you’ve never been to see a race.” Luke said.
“Why should I give away my ticket? Just so you and your rotten little brother can go spend the day together in Atlanta?” Bo asked.
“You’d better watch your mouth Bo,” Luke said, threateningly.
Bo didn’t really want to be fighting with Luke, but figured at least this way Luke was paying attention to him.
“Why should I? I am only stating the truth. There is no way I am giving my ticket to Judd.” Bo said.
“I told Judd he could have it.” Luke said.
“Well it ain’t your ticket to give away, guess you should’ve thought about that first.” Bo said.
“Well I didn’t think you’d act this way, you’ve seen dozens of races, Judd has never saw even one. So grow up and stop acting like an immature little brat.” Luke said.
“You are so quick to keep your promise to Judd, what about your promise to me?” Bo questioned, going to the race was not the promise that he meant, he meant the promise Luke had made when they were kids, back when they had became blood brothers.
“Look, I am sure the race will be back sometime and then we can go, I promise.” Luke said, having no idea that is wasn’t so much not going to the race that was upsetting Bo.
“Yeah and then Judd will come back and take the ticket again.” Bo said.
“Give it a rest Bo, you sound like a little kid, it is just a race.” Luke said.
Judd just stood listening to the two cousin’s fight, watching the whole scene with a wide smile on his face.
“And you sound like a polecat. Anything for your precious little brother, who is a low down snake.” Bo said.
“You got no call to talk about my brother that way.” Luke said, anger rising in his voice, he couldn’t believe that his younger cousin was acting this way over a race.
“It is the truth. I hate him and he hates me.” Bo said, and turned to walk away.
Luke followed after him, grabbing Bo by the shoulders and spinning him around to face him.
“I don’t take kindly to the way you are bad mouthing my brother.” Luke said.
“That’s the only person you care about, ain’t it?” Bo asked.
“That’s not true Bo.” Luke said.
“Sure seems that way. You don’t notice anyone else. You don’t care what happens to anyone else as long as your brother is okay.” Bo said, referring back to the first time Judd had came to Hazzard, even though Luke had no idea what Bo was talking about.
“Just give Judd your ticket. I haven’t ever got a chance to know my brother, and have spent most my time with you.” Luke said, not really wording the sentence how he meant to, meaning that he knew everything about Bo and knew very little about who his brother was.
“You talk like that is a bad thing.” Bo said.
“I just want to spend some time with my brother. It don’t mean I hate you, you are still my cousin.” Luke said.
“Before Judd came around we were “brothers” now you could care less.” Bo said.
“I didn’t say that. We are still cousins.” Luke said.
“But nothing else. When he wasn’t here, we were like brothers, but now that he is here you don’t need me at all and discard me like yesterday’s news.” Bo said. “Well let me tell you something Judd ain’t the person you think he is. I got a bad feeling about him.”
“You are acting like a jealous little child. That is not how things are” Luke said.
“It sure seems that way, and I am not jealous.” Bo said.
“Then just give Judd your ticket.” Luke said.
“That’s all you care about isn’t it? Well fine take the ticket, I no longer care.” Bo said, and took a deep breath. “It is over between us Luke, I break the bond of being blood brothers with you, I know your word ain’t with two cents.”
Bo didn’t really mean to say that to Luke, he was just so hurt, that he had spoke without thinking, and he just felt so angry at Luke for being so taken by Judd that he just wanted to lash out.
“You are being a child Bo.” Luke said, he was angry at Bo for how he was acting over one simple little race, not knowing there was so much more to the whole story. He thought that he might’ve inadvertently hurt Bo, having no idea how deeply he had actually hurt his younger cousin. Luke thought that he would talk to Bo later, once he calmed down and wasn’t so mad at him.
“I don’t care what you think Luke, go off the race with your snake of brother.” Bo said.
“I told you to stop bad mouthing my brother.” Luke said, and raised his fist to strike Bo.
Bo just looked at Luke with unwavering eyes, almost daring Luke to hit him. Luke lowered his fist.
“Fine Bo you win, have it your way. You want to go and end it between us, that’s fine, after all I have my brother in my life.” Luke said, he was so angry that he wasn’t thinking about his words, saying words he didn’t truly mean and couldn’t tell how upset Bo actually was.
Luke’s words seemed to cut through Bo’s heart like hot knife, but Bo refused to allow the pain to show, he turned and walked away before Bo could see his tears. Luke turned and walked back over to where Judd stood.
“That was some fight.” Judd said.
“Yeah.” Luke said, still fuming with anger.
“Want to talk about it?” Judd asked.
     “Not really.” Luke said.
“You mean not until he comes to his senses and apologizes, if he ever does, he don’t strike me as the type how knows how to say sorry.” Judd said, trying to drive a wedge between Bo and Luke.
“I just don’t want to talk about it. Bo does know how to apologize, he just tends to have a hot temper is all.” Luke said. “I’ll go inside and get the tickets and we can head to Atlanta.”
“Sounds good to me brother.” Judd said, hiding just how happy he was about the boys fight.
Bo walked along the winding dirt road, with no idea of where he was walking to. His thoughts were spinning rapidly in his head, he had said things during his fight with Luke that he wished he could take back, but knew it was far too late to do so now.  He couldn’t believe that Luke was so quick to give away his ticket to Judd, he doubted that Luke cared at all how he felt, he felt positive that Judd had succeeded in taking his place in Luke’s life. Bo was so wrapped up in his thoughts, that he didn’t hear the car coming up behind him. The red car pulled to stop behind Bo, and Sabrina climbed out and ran over to Bo.
“Bo, what are you doing out here, walking?” Sabrina asked, her voice held genuine concern.
Bo looked at her and she could clearly see the hurt in his dark blue eyes.
“I had a fight with Luke . . .” Bo said his voice trailing off.
“You two have had fights before, you’ve always worked your problems out.”
“Not this time, not with Judd around. Luke could care less what I think.” Bo said.
“I doubt that is true.” Sabrina said.
“It is. Our friendship is over . . . and it is all my fault.” Bo said.
“Do you want to go somewhere and talk about it?” Sabrina asked.
Bo gave a small smile, one that never reached his eyes. “Yeah, I guess, thanks.”
They both got into Sabrina’s car, and drove towards Hazzard Pond, to talk. The drive was made in silence, and Sabrina didn’t push Bo into talking, knowing he would tell her what had happened when he was ready.
Bo sat down on a large, smooth boulder and stared out across the water for a moment, before taking a deep breath and telling Sabrina everything that had happened during his fight with Luke.
“That sure does sound like a rough fight.” Sabrina said.
Bo nodded. “I am actually surprised that Luke didn’t pound my head in to make me give Judd the ticket.”
“He would never do that, you Luke ain’t like that.” Sabrina said.
“Yeah . . . he just seems to act different when Judd is around.” Bo said.
“I am sure once the two of you calm down and talk you can work this out, and it is just one race.” Sabrina said.
“It is not the race. I don’t care too much about that it’s just . . . I know this sounds silly but it is like Judd is taking my place in Luke’s life, and Luke don’t notice or care.”
“I don’t think that is true . . . Luke not caring that is.” Sabrina said. “Why is it you hate Judd so much?”
“I don’t trust him one bit, and everyone else seems blind to his faults . . . even though I don’t know what they are.” Bo said.
“Perhaps you could check into him or something.” Sabrina suggested.
“That’s a great idea.” Bo said
Bo smiled, he had calmed down completely, he found it felt good to get everything off his chest. Bo kissed Sabrina. “I’m glad you came around, it was great to be able to talk to someone.”
“Not a problem, do you need a ride back home?”
“Yeah, I guess it is a bit far of a walk.” Bo said.
     “Okay let’s go.” Sabrina said.
Twenty minutes later, she pulled to a stop in front of the Duke’s farmhouse.
“If you need any help, call me okay?”
“Yeah, and thanks again.” Bo said.
     “Don’t mention it.” Sabrina said.
Bo stepped out of the car and stood watching as Sabrina drove away.
Nobody was home when Bo arrived back at the farm and he was glad that they had taken Judd’s car so he could use the General to drive to Atlanta, to start investigating Judd, even though he had no idea what he was looking for. Bo climbed into the General and then sped away from the farm in a cloud of dust.
Bo spent the next hour searching through piles of old papers, having no idea that the whole time that he did that he was being watched by two men. The men were hidden in the shadows of the large old building, and even if Bo were to have seen them, he’d have no idea that he was being watched. Both men were quite tall, taller then Bo in fact, and both were solidly built, with firm muscles, they looked a lot like a couple of football players. One of them walked away to make a phone call, at the same time that Bo found an article that answered all his questions about Judd. Bo’s eyes, first lit up with shocked at his discovery, that shock quickly turned to rage he wanted to do nothing more then to find Judd and beat the trough out of him. Bo needed he would need proof to back up his claim and went to photocopy the article.
Luke and Judd were watching the race, Luke had calmed down since his fight with Bo, and was having so much fun at the race that he barely thought about it. He had decided that once he got back to the farm that he would have a long talk with Bo. Judd’s pager suddenly went off.
“I have to go make a phone call brother. I only got this pager for important calls. I won’t be too long.” Judd said. “Where’s the phones?”
“They’re back near the vending booth.” Luke said.
“Thanks.” Judd said, and made his way towards the phone.
Judd returned the call, one of the men that had been watching Bo is the one that had made the call.
“Hey boss, you were right about blondie possibly being trouble . . . and I think he found out.”
“Damn it.” Judd cursed lowly. “What is he up to Milton?”
“He’s checking up on you, looking through old articles.” Milton said.
“I want you and Barry to wait until he goes to leave and grab him, take him to the meeting place.” Judd said. “And make sure that he is comfortable.” He added sarcastically.
“We’ll do boss, you don’t have to worry at all about him.” Milton said.
Judd hung up the phone, a wide smile crossed his lips, that glimmered with evil laughter in his eyes. He now had no fears, the only one who could have possibly interfered with his plan was now out of the way. Judd whistled as he walked back to where Luke sat watching the race.
“I take the phone call was good news.” Luke said.
“Yeah, I guess. I have to go meet some people later on, shouldn’t take me more then a couple of hours. So after the race I’ll drop you back at the farm and go to my meeting” Judd said.
“Okay, whatever.” Luke said, not even giving it a second thought, and turning his attention back to the race.
Judd smiled and wondered what Luke’s reaction would be if he told him the truth, that he had just had his younger cousin Bo kidnapped and he would probably never see him again, or at least alive.
With no idea of danger that he was in, Bo walked towards where he had parked the General. He didn’t hear Milton and Barry come up behind him. Milton grabbed Bo from behind, wrapping his arm tightly around Bo’s throat. Bo struggled to escape but found himself unable, and there was nobody else around to see the attack. Bo gasp to try to catch his breath, his heart was beating rapidly with fear believing that Milton was going to crush his throat, and he was unable to even ask his attacker what he wanted. Barry walked around and stood in front of Bo, holding a needle in his hand. Bo’s eyes widened at the sight of the needle, he had always hated needles, and he tried to struggle even harder, but Milton’s grip only tightened.
“Just calm down Bo, there ain’t no way that you are going to escape.” Barry said.
‘How do they know who I am.’ Bo thought to himself.
Bo flinched as Barry injected the needle into his right arm. Almost instantly Bo felt darkness begin to slip over his mind, and tried desperately to fight it, though his attempts were futile and he dropped into unconsciousness.
“Now let’s get this kid back to the hideout.” Barry said.
Milton nodded and picked up Bo and flung him over his shoulder, carrying him back over to their car as though he were no more then a sack of potatoes. Milton drove their car, and Barry drove the General back to their hideout, which was just outside of Hazzard.
Judd dropped Luke off at the Duke farm, and Luke was only mildly surprised to find that the General was gone, assume that Bo had gone somewhere to blow off a little steam and would no doubt be back home in time for dinner. Daisy and Jesse still were not back home yet, thinking nothing further Luke went inside, the old three bedroom farmhouse as his brother’s car sped away from the farm.
It was a couple of hours since Milton and Barry had grabbed Bo and he was just beginning to wake up when Judd arrived. Judd walked over and knelt down in front of the chair that Bo was tied to, while Milton and Barry stood back watching the events unfold before them. He slapped Bo across the face several times, hard enough to cause bruising, to wake the younger man. Bo moaned softly and opened his eyes, he tried to struggle against the bonds that held him, but found the ropes gave no leeway, the knots were tied firmly, with thick ropes, which dug into his skin. Bo looked up at the dark haired man, and stared at him with hate filled dark blue eyes.
“You ain’t gonna get away with this.” Bo said, his voice sounded weak and tired.
“I already have Bo.” Judd said.
“Luke will figure out the truth sooner or later and when he does . . .” Bo started to say but Judd cut him off.
“Luke will never figure out the truth, he is all wrapped up in having his baby brother in his life, and that is because you are such a disappointing loser.” Judd said.
“You AREN’T Luke’s brother and he will figure that out.” Bo said.
“Give it a rest Bo, that cousin of yours is not as smart as you seem to think he is.” Judd said.
“He will come looking for me . . .” Bo started to say.
“No he won’t, he don’t even know you are gone yet, and what makes you think that he will care that you are gone? After that fight you boys had today.” Judd said.
Bo didn’t reply, thinking that perhaps he was right, Luke might still be angry at him and not even care or notice that he was gone.
“No snappy come back?” Judd questioned. “I guess that is because you know it is the truth. I really doubt that Luke does care that much about you. After all some stranger comes to the door, with a whole story of how he is his younger brother and Luke is so willing to accept that and ditch you like yesterdays new.”
“You haven’t won yet. Luke will find out the truth someday.” Bo said.
“Didn’t anyone ever tell you that someday never comes?”
Bo narrowed his eyes at Judd. “You will be exposed for lying, murderous snake that you really are.”
Judd slapped Bo across the face. “Watch your mouth boy.”
A small trickle of warm, red blood dripped from the corner of Bo’s mouth, but he refused to allow his pain to show.
“Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t just kill you now.” Judd said.
“Because Luke would kill you.” Bo said.
“He’d never find out.” Judd said.
“Somebody would find out, just like with the other murders, Justin Kane.”
“I’d be much more careful this time, besides they still have never found me, and I imagine that old case is closed.” Justin said.
“How did you know about Luke’s brother anyways?” Bo asked.
“Well, most everything I faked. I can’t believe anyone actually believed me it was such a silly story especially the whole birthmark thing.” Justin said. “The rest I heard from my stepmother, she worked at that hospital.”
“What’s that got to with it?”
“She did take Judd from the hospital . . . but not because of a fire. She started the fire to cover her tracks, since she was stealing him from the hospital.”
Anger raced through Bo’s eyes. “That fire killed Luke’s parents.”
Justin shrugged. “Oh well, it killed a lot of people, fires are great for that.”
“You son of a . . .” Bo started to say, but his sentence was cut short by a harsh slap across the face.
“Watch what you say about my mother.” Justin said, though he didn’t really care as he hated his mother, but found to be a good excuse to strike Bo. “Judd is dead to, died shortly after really, what a shame.”
Bo struggled hard against the ropes, wanting to break free and strangle Justin for all his lies and the pain his mother had caused Luke, starting the fire that took his parent life’s. However all his struggling only managed to make the ropes tighter, drawing small trickles of blood that dripped down his wrists.
“When Luke finds out about you he’ll break every bone in your body.” Bo threatened coldly.
“Oh I am so scared.” Justin said sarcastically. “He is never going to find out and you ain’t going to live long enough to tell him.”
Justin stepped away from Bo and walked over to where Milton and Barry stood.
“What do you want us to do with that orange car?” Barry asked.
“Dump it somewhere that nobody will ever find, drive it off a cliff for all I care. Just be sure that nobody sees it. I don’t want any of his family seeing that car, they might just figure out that something is wrong and come looking for Bo, and we don’t want that.” Justin said.
Justin turned and left the small cabin, leaving Bo alone with Milton and Barry.
“You go ditch that car. I’ll watch blondie.” Milton said. “He shouldn’t be too much trouble, tied to a chair and all.”
Barry nodded and left the cabin. Bo heard the familiar sound of the General’s engine as it roared to life outside the cabin, and he wondered if the older man would dump him or send him off a cliff. Bo pushed the thought from his mind, having other more important matters to be concerned with, namely his own safety and his family’s safety, they had no idea of the psychotic person that was posing as one of the family, and he worried what Justin would do to them.
Luke sat in the front room, on the couch, aimlessly flipping through an old car magazine. He had started to have one of his famous gut feelings that Bo was trouble, and wished that his younger cousin would get home so they discuss the fight they had earlier. After he had thought more about the fight, he realized there was more then just not going to the race that was bothering Bo, and he wanted to know just what that was. All he could do was sit and wait for Bo to come home and pray that the feeling that he was having was wrong. Luke was pulled from his thoughts by the sound of a car engine pulling up to the farm, he hoped for a moment that it was Bo, but knew the sound of the engine was not the General Lee’s, and assumed that it was his brother returning to the farm.
Judd stepped into the front room and saw Luke sitting on the couch, he could notice the distant look in Luke’s soft blue eyes.
“Is there something wrong, brother?” Judd asked.
“I just . . . got the feeling that Bo is in some kind of trouble.” Luke said.
Judd hide his frown, he had doubted that Luke would even notice Bo’s absence. “What makes you say that?”
“Well . . . I figured he’d be back by now and I got one of my famous gut feelings.” Luke said.
“I think he probably just took off. I mean after that fight the two of you had.”
“We’ve had fights before . . . they never last long, and it ain’t like Bo to take off.”
Judd shrugged. “He seemed quite angry, but maybe he realized that he was wrong.”
“I don’t know. I guess it is kinda silly to be worrying, he is probably just with Sabrina or something.” Luke said.
Later that night Luke had still been unable to shake the feeling that Bo was in some kind of trouble and as he helped his uncle clean up the dishes, after dinner, he talked to Jesse.
“Uncle Jesse, do you have any idea where Bo is?”
“No, I actually haven’t seen him all day.” Jesse said.
“I thought that he would’ve at least came home for dinner.” Luke said.
“I am not surprised that he ain’t here, I heard about the fight the two of you had.”
“We’ve had fights before, neither of us ever stay mad for very long.” Luke said.
“You know Bo’s temperament, he can be quite stubborn at times, the both of you can.” Jesse said.
Luke gave a small laugh. “I guess that runs in the family.”
“I am sure that Bo is fine, I imagine that he is just camped out somewhere trying to blow off some steam.” Jesse said.
“Yeah, you are probably right.” Luke said.
“Maybe you just think there is something wrong because you feel bad about going back on your word about going to the race with Bo, the two of haven’t spent much time together these past couple of days.” Jesse said.
“I guess I never really thought about that. I guess that I was just so determined to make up for all the lost time with Judd . . . I never meant to do anything to hurt Bo.”
“I know that Luke, I wasn’t accusing you of that. I am sure Bo understands.”
Luke nodded. “When he does come home him and me is going to have a long talk.”
Jesse nodded his head, his way of telling Luke he believed that was a good idea. “Now why don’t you go out into the other room with Daisy and Judd, I can finish up in here.”
“Yes sir.” Luke said, and left the kitchen.
That night Judd slept in Bo’s bed, since everyone doubted that Bo would be coming home, of course the three Dukes had no way of knowing just how right they were, and that not only would he not be coming home that night he might never be coming home again. Everyone slept well that night, everyone except for Bo. The chair he was tied to was very uncomfortable, his whole body dully ached, and the only good thing was that his wrists had stopped bleeding. Milton and Barry slept nearby, but Bo knew that there was no chance for escape as the ropes were tied far too tight for him to get loose. He tried to get some sleep, knowing it would do no good to stay awake all night, but sleep never came. His mind wandered the whole night, he thought of what Justin and his two henchmen might do him come morning and he thought about his family. He also thought about the fight he had with Luke and that he might never get the chance to tell him sorry, to his family the truth about “Judd.”
Early the next day, long time friend of the Duke family, Cooter Davenport, pulled his tow truck to a stop in front of the junkyard. He planned to rummage through the cars to find any salvageable parts. He walked through the junkyard for several minutes, finding nothing and that is when he spotted the General Lee.
‘What is the General doing here?’ Cooter thought to himself and walked over to the familiar orange charger.
He opened his hood to be sure it was truly the General and not a replica, as had happened a couple times before, and he saw it was indeed the car that belong to his two best friend’s. Cooter quickly climbed into the car and hot-wired it, driving it over to where he had parked the tow truck. He tried to CB any of the Dukes, but got no response, so he hooked the General up to his tow truck and drove off towards the Duke farm.
Luke answered the door and saw Cooter standing there.
“Hey Cooter . . .” Luke started to say and then saw the General. “Where did you find the General?”
     “In the junkyard.” Cooter said.
The two men walked over to the General.
“Did you see Bo?” Luke said.
Cooter shook his head. “Nah, just the General here.”
Judd had been inside and overheard and walked over to the car.
“Maybe he was trying too get rid of the car, just junk it.” Judd said.
Luke shook his head. “Bo would never do that . . . something has to be wrong.”
“Why just because he got rid of the car?” Judd questioned, angry that the car had been left where the Dukes, or Cooter could find it.
“The General is not just a car, he is part of that family. Bo wouldn’t leave him in the junkyard.” Luke said.
“Yeah, that’s for sure.” Cooter said.
“It can only mean one thing, that Bo is in trouble.” Luke said. “I think we should all split up and go look for him.”
“Yeah okay.” Judd said, he knew right where Bo was and planned to go there and take care of the problem once and for all. “I’ll check everything east of here, to the county line.”
“I’ll take the General and check out some place from the pond, to the Chickasaw County line.” Luke said.
“I’ll take the north.” Cooter said, but what about everywhere else?”
“I’ll call Daisy on the CB and tell her to quit her shopping for clothes and come help us look. Uncle Jesse is gone to Atlanta to visit an old friend so there is no since in involving him until we know more.”
“Maybe you should call Sabrina, she might have some idea of where he could possible be, or at least where he was yesterday.” Cooter said.
“Yeah, you two head of, I’ll give her a call.” Luke said.
“Holler if you hear anything.” Cooter said.
The two men left, of course the only one who would have any luck is the person who had caused his disappearance.
Luke nodded, and headed back inside to call Sabrina.
Sabrina answered her phone on the third ring.
     “Hello?”
     “Hey Sabrina, its Luke.”
     “Hey Luke.”
“Have you seen Bo around?” Luke asked.
“Not since early yesterday, why?” Sabrina asked.
“He seems to have vanished and Cooter found the General in the junkyard. I know Bo wouldn’t do that even if he was mad at me.” Luke said.
“I saw him after you two had a fight, he calmed down after we talked.”
“I haven’t seen him since then.” Luke said. “Where did he go after the two of you had a talk?”
“I don’t know if he would want me telling you.” Sabrina said.
“It’s really important. I just have the feeling that he is some kind of trouble.”
“Well, he said he didn’t trust Judd, and he was going to check into Judd’s story. But I don’t know where he was going.” Sabrina said.
Luke sighed softly, though he wasn’t too surprised at what she had told him that Bo had been doing, he had got the feeling during the fight with Bo that he didn’t trust Judd. “Are you sure you don’t know where he went?”
“I have no idea, I haven’t heard from him since.” Sabrina said. “Do you need any help looking for him?”
“I think we have it covered. I’ll call you if we need some more help.” Luke said.
“I hope that you find him.” Sabrina said. “If there is anything I can do to help, just call.”
“Thanks.” Luke said, then hung up the phone and ran outside and got into the General.
Milton and Barry looked up from their game of cards when the front door of the cabin banged opened.
“Hey, what are you doing here?” Milton asked.
“Yeah boss we didn’t expect to see you for a couple of days.” Barry added.
“You idiots left that car where it could be found. After I told you not to.” Justin said.
“I didn’t think anyone would find it in the junkyard.” Barry said.
“Their friend Cooter did, and now they are out looking for Bo.” Justin said.
“Told you that you wouldn’t get away with this.” Bo said.
Justin spun around and glared at Bo. “I have had enough of you, I am taking care of this problem once and for.”
Justin took out a small black pouch, and filled a needle with a dark green substance, and stepped over to Bo. Bo’s eyes widened, he hated needles to begin with and this needle was large.
“You know that much mosloloc will kill him.” Milton said.
“I am well aware of that, that my friend is the whole point. Like I said I am taking care of this problem once and for all.”
Bo’s heart beat widely with fear, fear of his own approaching death. “Why are you doing this . . . I mean pretending that you are Judd?” Bo asked, he tried to hide his fear but still his voice slightly trembled.
“I guess you do have the right to know before you die. I guess mostly it is for revenge.” Justin said.
     “Revenge?”
“My mother cared more about Judd then she did about me, her own child. When he died . . . of what they believe to have been SID she went off the deep end and took her rage out on me.” Justin said.
“So what does that have to do with us Dukes?” Bo asked.
“He was one of you. I will get my revenge.” Justin said, his voice sounding like that of a mad man.
“That fire your mother started killed Luke’s parents, isn’t that revenge enough?”
Justin shook his head. “That is not the revenge I mean. I wouldn’t have had to kill you if you hadn’t of interfered.”
“Just what is your game then?” Bo said.
“I decided to take Judd’s life. My mother began to lose her mind before she died and I told her that I was Judd, she didn’t know the difference and loved me more then she ever had.  Unfortunately she died shortly after. I remember her telling me about Judd’s real family, so I did in fact track you all down, just like I said. I took Judd’s life because he was more loved his life was better then mine so I took it for my own.”
“You really are insane, you know that don’t you?”
“And you are dead.” Justin said and turned to look at Milton. “Hold him.”
Milton grabbed Bo’s head, and tipped it to one side. He could feel Bo’s body trembled and could tell how much fear the young boy was in, and sensing that caused his smile to widen. Bo bit his bottom lip as the tip of the needle pressed against his throat.
“Goodbye Bo.” Justin said, in an emotionless tone, and pressed the plunger of the needle sending the mosloloc coursing through Bo’s blood stream.  Milton let go of Bo and he and Justin stepped away. Bo gasped deeply as the mosloloc began to take effect, his whole body started to shudder, and breathing felt difficult just as though he was having an asthma attack. His heart beat widely, pounding so hard that he thought it was surely going to jump out of his chest. His vision grew blurred and he could barely see his three captors who stood only a few feet away.
“Luke . . .” Bo whispered his cousin’s name softly, praying that some way Luke could hear him and come to his rescue the way he always had in the past. Even though his mind doubted that could ever happen his heart believed.
“C’mon let’s get out of here.” Justin said.
     “What about him?” Barry asked.
“He is as good as dead, we will just leave him here to die alone.” Justin said.
Bo heard them leave and knew that he was alone in the small cabin. He could feel consciousness slowly began to slip away and tried hard to fight it, knowing as soon as he gave in to it death would over take his body, however it was a battle he could not win.
Meanwhile, as Luke drove along the winding dirt roads, the silence that filled the car seemed to be too much. He tried to keep the faith that Bo was okay, even though deep down he doubted that was the case, considering where Cooter had found the General Lee. He suddenly had the feeling that he should check an old deserted cabin that was just on the other side of the Choctaw County line. He knew that Judd was checking out that area, however his gut instinct told him that he should go there. So he sped off towards the old cabin.
A few minutes later Luke pulled to a stop in front of the cabin, noticing it looked as deserted as ever, until he noticed fresh tire tracks in the dirt. Luke hoped out of the General and walked towards the cabin, the windows were boarded over, so he couldn’t see inside, he listened quietly for a moment and heard no movement coming from within the cabin. He thought about just going and getting back in the General, but his instinct was strong that he just had to check inside. The old door squeaked as he slowly pushed it opened, lighting up the small room of the cabin. Luke looked into the cabin and his heart nearly stopped when he saw Bo sitting tied to a chair, his head slumped forward.
“BO!” Luke called out his cousin’s name, receiving no response, he rushed over to Bo.
Luke’s hands moved quickly a he untied the ropes, he was concerned with how limp Bo’s body was, and thought it didn’t seem like Bo was breathing. Luke caught Bo’s limp, lifeless body in his arms as Bo slumped forward, the ropes no longer holding him up. Luke gently laid Bo down on the floor, his heart was racing with fear, Bo’s body had felt so cold, so lifeless. With a shaky hand Luke reached down to check for a pulse, fear raced through him when he felt none.
“No . . . you can’t do this Bo . . . you can’t die.” Luke said, his voice trembling.
Luke knew that he had to attempt CPR, there was no way that any kind of help could reach them, or he could reach the hospital, before it was too late, he only prayed that he was in time to save Bo through CPR.
Luke pressed his hands firmly against Bo’s chest, in a desperate attempt to restart his heart, his own heart racing wildly with fear of losing his younger cousin.
“C’mon Bo don’t you dare leave me . . . you can’t leave me.” Luke said, his voice frantic.
Giving his own life’s breath to revive his young cousin, with no idea if the CPR was doing any good, or if Bo was already lost forever. Luke’s whole body was trembling and tears streaked his face.
“Please don’t do this Bo. You can’t die, you can’t leave me.” Luke said, his frantic voice trembling with each word he spoke as he continually pleaded with Bo to come back and not to die.
After several minutes Bo still showed no signs of life, but Luke refused to give up, he had no idea what he would do if he lost Bo, especially if the last words he ever said to him were spoken in anger. Luke could feel Bo’s ribs creaking under the pressure and he hoped that he didn’t break any of Bo’s ribs while trying to save his life. Luke had no idea of how much time had past, but it felt like an eternity to him and he was starting to lose hope, his tears streaked his cheek unabated. Luke pounded his fist against Bo’s chest, desperately trying to save Bo, with no idea of what else to do, as he looked at his cousin’s blue lips.
     “Please Bo . . . please don’t die. I can’t . . . I can’t lose you cousin.” Luke said.
Suddenly, Bo gasped deeply, his body trembling, though he remained unconscious. Luke whispered a prayer of thanks as he held his youngest cousin in his arms.
“That’s it Bo . . . just stay with me cousin.” Luke said softly as he carefully picked Bo up.
Luke carried him out to the General, knowing that Bo needed medical attention.
Luke drove as fast as he could towards the nearest hospital in Capitol City, his whole body still alive with some kind of unseen energy. He kept glancing over at Bo to be sure he was still okay, and the only way he knew his cousin was still alive was the steady rising and falling of his chest as he breathed. Luke knew that Bo’s life was still in danger, and wondered what had made his heart stop like it had, as he didn’t notice the needle mark on Bo’s neck.
Luke pulled to a screeching halt in front of the main doors of the hospital, two ambulance attendants, who were standing outside, looked up as the orange car pulled up. Luke quickly climbed out of the car.
“You’ve gotta help me . . . my cousin needs help.” Luke called out to the other two men.
They nodded and pulled the stretcher out of the back of the ambulance and ran over to the car. Luke carefully slid Bo’s still form out through the window and gently laid him down on the stretcher. Luke ran along side the stretcher, holding Bo’s hand tightly between his own, as they ran into the hospital, not even aware of what the other two men were saying as they called out Bo’s stats.
“You’ll have to wait here.” A nurse told Luke, pulling him away from the stretcher as Bo was pushed between a set of double doors.
Luke didn’t want to wait there, he wanted to go with Bo however he knew that there was nothing he could do. A nurse walked over and handed Luke a form to fill out, for Bo’s medical information, Luke filled it out as easily as he could his own. In his fragile state of mind Luke didn’t even think to get a hold of his family, all he could think about was Bo.
It was thirty minutes later when a doctor walked over to him. The doctor was elderly man, his gray hair had receded so far that he was mostly bald, and the serious look on his face made him appear much older then he really was. Luke braced himself for the worst possible news, while he prayed for the best. The doctor introduced himself as Dr. Alfred Megaoctet.
“How is my cousin?” Luke asked, his genuine concern obvious in his voice.
“He is a lucky young man.” Dr. Megaoctet said. “Do you want to tell me what happened?”
“I don’t really know . . .” Luke said his voice trailed off for a moment then he explained the situation to the doctor.
Alfred nodded, as he listened carefully to the young man’s story, saying nothing.
“Will he be okay?” Luke asked.
“It’s hard to say. As I said before he is lucky, by all means h should be dead. There was a high amount of mosloloc found in his system, enough to stop his heart.”
“His heart did stop.” Luke said, shuddering at the memory of finding Bo like that.
“He has a couple cracked ribs, several bruises on his face, and both of his wrists had cuts.” Dr. Megaoctet said.
“The cracked ribs probably happened while I was performing CPR . . . I was trying to be careful but . . .” Luke said.
“His ribs will heal and the CPR might have likely saved his life.” Alfred said. “Though we will not know until he awakens from the comma.”
Luke nodded, he knew that was the truth, if he hadn’t preformed the CPR Bo would be dead right now, so with the alternative cracked ribs were nothing.
“Can I go see him?” Luke asked.
Alfred nodded. “I’ll take you to his room. He might still be able to hear you even though he is in a comma so you can try talking to him.”
“Thank you.” Luke said and shook the doctor’s hand.
Luke stepped into Bo’s room, and his heart felt heavy at the sight of his young cousin. Bo had oxygen hooked up to his nose, his chest was bandaged and had wires sticking to him which were connected to a heart machine and an IV slowly dripped into his left arm. Luke stepped over to the bed, and gently wiped a lock of Bo’s blonde hair away from his eyes.
“I’m so sorry Bo. I can’t help but feel that this is my fault. If we hadn’t of had that fight . . . if I had only kept my promise and gone to the race with you.” Luke said, biting back the fresh tears that had started to burn his eyes.
Luke picked up Bo’s hand and held it between his own. “Please awake up soon Bo.”
Luke stood there quietly for several minutes, not knowing what else to say, unable to find the words to say everything that he wanted to tell Bo. Suddenly Luke remembered about everyone else.
“I’ll be right back Bo. I just have to go make a call to tell everyone else that I found you . . .” Luke said.
Luke left the room to find a phone.
Everyone else had just arrived back at the farm, when Luke called, Daisy was the one to answer the phone, she could tell from the tone of his voice that something was wrong.
     “What’s wrong Luke?” Daisy asked.
“I found Bo . . .” Luke said his voice trailing off for a moment. “I took him to the Capitol City hospital.”
“Oh my god. Is he okay?”
“They don’t know yet . . . just get here I don’t want to talk about it over the phone.” Luke said.
“We’ll be right there, you just hang on honey.” Daisy said, and hung up the phone.
She stepped into the front room, fighting the tears that swelled up in her eyes, she knew the news had to bad for Luke to not tell her over the phone.
     “Luke found Bo . . .”
     “Is he okay?” Cooter asked.
Judd hid a frowned, cursing to himself that Luke had found Bo, and prayed that he hadn’t been in time to save Bo’s life.
“He wouldn’t say over the phone.” Daisy said.
Before anyone else could say anything, Jesse walked into the house. Daisy ran over to him and threw her arms around his neck and started to cry.
     “What’s wrong?” Jesse asked.
Cooter walked over to the two Dukes.
“Bo’s in the hospital.” Cooter said, and then explained to Jesse what had been happening.
Jesse’s face paled with concern, and he hid his tears, trying to maintain a strong exterior, to keep Daisy from becoming more upset then she already was. The four of them then went out to their cars, Daisy rode with Jesse in the pickup, which was followed by Cooter’s pickup and then Judd’s car. Judd figured since Luke was upset that Bo could be dead, he doubted that Bo could possibly live with all the mosloloc he had pumped into his system. Judd turned the radio on and sang loudly along with all the songs as he drove towards the hospital, along with everyone else.
Daisy was the first to run into Bo’s room, and she gasped when she saw his condition. Jesse and Cooter walked in next, followed by Judd. Luke looked up at them, his eyes wet with tears.
     “What happened?” Jesse asked.
Luke took a deep breath and told them the story of how he found Bo, his hands shaking.
“The doctors still don’t know if Bo is going to pull through this.” Luke said.
“Bo’s strong, I’m sure he’ll pull trough okay.” Cooter said.
Luke nodded. “I am hope. I can’t help but feel that this is all my fault.”
‘Wrong Luke. It is my doing and he should be dead.’ Judd thought to himself.
“It’s not your fault Luke, don’t you go thinking that it is.” Daisy said.
“If I had kept my promise and gone to the race with Bo . . . he wouldn’t be here now.” Luke said.
“You don’t know that brother. Whoever did this may have just attacked him later or something.” Judd said.
“I guess.” Luke said. “Did anyone call Sabrina?”
Everyone shook their heads.
“I can call her, I am sure that she would want to know.” Daisy said.
Daisy left the room and called Sabrina.
“Have you found Bo yet?” Sabrina asked.
“Yeah . . . I’m afraid there is some bad news.” Daisy said.
“What? Is Bo okay?” Sabrina asked, her voice filled with concern.
“They don’t really know yet. He was drugged and he almost died . . . he would’ve if Luke hadn’t of found him.” Daisy said.  “Can you make it to Capitol City hospital?”
“Yeah I will be there in thirty minutes.” Sabrina said.
“Great, Bo is in a comma, the doctor said he might still be able to hear people talking to him and I am sure that he would love for you to be here.” Daisy said.
Sabrina arrived, just under thirty minutes later, she greeted everyone else, except Judd, she could sense the same thing that Bo could about him. Nobody thought much about it as the two had never really met. She sat down beside Bo’s bed and spoke softly to him, trying to get him to wake, though like everyone else, she had no luck. Luke and Sabrina were the last to leave the hospital that day.
“Do you have any idea who did this to Bo?” Sabrina asked.
Luke shook his head. “But when I find them I will break every bone in their body.”
“I think I should call my agency to tell them to find someone else for the campaign that is in Atlanta, it’d be for three weeks, and starts on Friday.” I just think that I should be here with Bo.” Sabrina said.
“You should just keep the job, Bo would want it that way. There is not much that you can do here . . . not much that any of us can do.” Luke said.
Sabrina nodded. “I know Bo would want me to take the job . . . I just don’t know if I can right now, I am too worried about Bo.”
“If there is any change we cold call you.” Luke said.
“I guess you are right, I should just take the job. I know Bo would tell me to.”
The next couple of days passed without change. Judd left the farm, saying he had to go to another meeting, and instead snuck into Bo’s hospital room after visiting hours were over.  Judd prepared a needle of mosloloc and took the IV tube into his hands.
“This time you are dead Bo. You are yesterday’s news. Luke will not be able to save you this time.” Judd said.
Judd looked at the sleeping young man, admiring his handy work of bruises he had left on Bo’s face. All the times before Bo’s family had always been there so he could express his joy of the condition he was in.  Judd glanced up at the shut door, then prepared to inject the mosloloc into the IV tube. Suddenly he heard the doorknob turn, and he quickly hid the needle as the door opened.
“What are you doing here?” The nurse asked.
     “He’s my cousin.” Judd lied.
“Well visiting hours are over, you’ll have to come back tomorrow.”
“I didn’t know.” Judd said, and left the room, cursing under his breath that the nurse had showed up when she did a couple of minutes later and Bo would be dead now. Judd sighed as walked out into the dark of the night, knowing that he would just have to try again later.
The next day Jesse, Daisy and Luke sat by Bo’s bedside. Luke’s nerves were still as frayed as before, and shortly after noon he felt to get himself a cup of coffee.  Jesse and Daisy took turns talking to Bo, trying to wake him, even though they were running out of things to talk to. Daisy say holding Bo’s hand, and reading an article from a car magazine to Bo, when she felt Bo’s fingers move.
“Bo . . . wake up.” Daisy said.
Bo moaned softly, his eyes fluttered but did not open. Jesse sat forward on his chair.
“C’mon sleepy head, time to wake up.” Jesse said.
Bo’s eyes opened slowly and he looked at his family, his eyes scanning the room.
“That’s a good boy.” Jesse said, his voice filled with joy.
“Where’s Luke?” Bo asked, his voice sounded weak and was barely above a whisper.
Bo thought that Luke was probably gone off with the man he thought was his brother, which made his heart squeeze with sadness.
“He just went to get a coffee. I’ll go find him.” Daisy said, she jumped up from her chair and gave Bo a quick kiss on the forehead and then quickly left the room.
Bo fought the sleep that he felt trying to over take him again. A few moments later Daisy returned with Luke.
“About time you woke up.” Luke said, as he stepped over to Bo’s bed.
Bo looked up at his older cousin. “Luke . . .”
     “Yeah, what is it Bo?”
“It . . . it . . .” Bo started to say and his voice trailed off as sleep once again overtook him.
“Bo. C’mon cousin wake up.” Luke said.
“Just let him me.” Jesse said. “I’ll go find a doctor.”
The doctor checked Bo over and his family that he need sleep and that they would have to leave so that Bo could get the sleep he needed. Dr. Megaoctet told them that it was a good sign that Bo woke from the comma. Jesse and Daisy went to Atlanta to pick up some things. Luke glanced into Bo’s room one last time and looked at his sleeping cousin. Then he glanced up at the clock, it was nearly one, and Luke figured that Judd would be back at the farm, and decided to go and tell him the good news, as well call Cooter once he got home.
Luke and Judd were arriving at the Duke farm at the same time.
“Hey brother I got great news. Bo woke up and the doctor’s think that he is going to be okay.
Judd gave a fake smile, to hide his disappointment. “That’s great.”
“He fell back asleep . . . but the doctor said that’s nothing, he just needs some rest.” Luke said.
“Maybe we should go out and celebrate.” Judd said, longing for the attention he felt should be his, even though he would rather be celebrating Bo’s death.
“I don’t really feeling like doing anything but relaxing for the first time in days . . .maybe tune the General up.” Luke said.
“I could give you a hand.” Judd said.
“Yeah sure. I just gotta call Cooter first, and Sabrina should still home, I’m sure they’ll be glad to hear the good news.” Luke said.
Bo awoke again a short time later, to find himself alone. He assumed that his family had gone home, and were with a psychotic person who was pretending to be one of the family. Bo couldn’t stand the thought of his family being at the mercy of Justin. Everything but the IV had been taken off, and Bo pulled the needle from his arm, wincing at the pain, but he was determined to get home, he had to tell Luke the truth.  Bo swung his legs off the bed and stood up, and the whole room seemed to sway around him, and he leaned back against the bed. Bo waited a moment, before stepping over to a chair, where his clothes sat in a bag. Each step he took seemed like a great task, and the room continued to spin around him, as though he was on some kind of carnival ride. Bo slowly got dressed, his fingers barely seemed to work as he fastened the buttons on his shirt. Bo walked out the room with no idea of how he was going to get home.
One of Bo’s friends from high school, worked at the hospital, and was walking down the hallway as Bo stepped out of the room.
“I heard what happened Bo, what are you doing out of bed?” Andrew asked.
“I gotta get back to the farm . . . it is an emergency.” Bo said. “Can I borrow your car?”
“I don’t know. Are you sure that you are in any condition to be driving?”
“I am fine, I can still drive better then you.” Bo said.
“That is probably true.” Andrew said, and pulled his car keys out of his pocket and handed them to Bo. “Just be careful. It’s the red and black Sedan parked out front.”
“Thanks. I owe you one.” Bo said.
“You sure do buddy.” Andrew said.
Bo left the hospital as quickly as he could, even though he was practically falling over his own feet, he never actually did fall down. Bo stepped outside, and glanced around the parking lot, quickly spotting Andrew’s car.
Bo got into Andrew’s car and sat behind the wheel for a moment, not even starting the car. He felt short of breath, and his vision was blurred and he couldn’t focus. He could feel sleeps cold grip trying to take over his mind, and fought it off, trying to focus on nothing else but getting home a putting an end to Justin’s lies. Bo started the car, and made his way to the exit, just narrowly missing several other cars.
‘I’ll have to stick to the back roads, there is no way I can manage the highway.’ Bo thought to himself, even though the highway was the quickest way, it meant more cars.
Bo turned onto the back road, which was a dirt road, a cloud of dust surrounded the car as he drove as fast as he could make the car go. It wasn’t a good racing car and was definitely not the General and Bo couldn’t get any speed over ninety miles an hour. The dust restricted his vision even more, and Bo could barely see anything, including the road. He made out the bends in the road usually at the last second, skidding the car as he made the turns. He knew he should slow down but he refused to lose any more time. His mind was drifting as sleep tried to over take him, beckoning him to close his eyes, for even just a second. A couple times, while the road was straight, Bo did nod off for a couple seconds, snapping awake when the wheels hit the edge of the road.
Bo was only ten minutes away from Hazzard, when he missed a sharp turn, and crashed into a shallow ditch. Bo banged his head on the steering wheel as the car slammed to a stop. Bo sat back on the seat, drawing in a deep shuddery breath, grateful that he hadn’t hit his head hard enough to split his forehead. The sudden stop caused a wave of pain to wash over his whole body, and he sat there trembling for a moment. The engine had kicked out and he tried to restart it, but the engine refused to start. Bo tried several times, and then could smell the faint scent of gasoline, and knew he had flooded the engine. Bo wondered what he would do if the car wouldn’t start in a couple moments, there was no CB so he couldn’t even call for help. After a couple moments Bo tried again, this time the engine roared to life. Bo slowly backed out of the ditch and back on to the road. He knew that he would have to take it easier, he was lucky his time, it was a shallow ditch, not a deep one, a tree or another car. Bo felt as though his body was going to give on him the minute he did slow down and prayed that he could reach the farm in time to tell his family the truth, and that he wasn’t too late to keep Justin from hurting anymore of his family.
Luke and Judd were working on the General when a red and black car raced into the yard, slamming to a stop against the picnic table. Luke ran over to see who it was, and why they were driving so erratically. Luke’s eyes widened when car door opened and Bo stumbled out.
“Bo.” Luke said rushing over to his cousin. “What do you thinking you are do, you aren’t in any condition to be driving.
Bo leaned against the door of the car, his legs not seeming to be able to hold his weight. Suddenly his legs gave out and he dropped to the ground, gasping to catch his breath. Luke knelt down in front of him.
“He is not who you think he is.” Bo said, his voice shaking.
“Who?” Luke asked, glancing over his shoulder at Judd who stood a few feet behind him, then turned his attention back to Bo.
“He is not your brother . . . he is not Judd. It is a lie.” Bo said.
     “What?”
“You can’t believe him Luke, he is out of his mind, he don’t know what he is talking about.” Justin said, starting to panic.
Luke lifted Bo’s head, by the chin so that they were eye to eye.
“He is not . . .” Bo said his voice breaking off as pain raced through his body. “He is not a Duke.”
     “He’s lying.” Justin said.
“No . . .” Bo started to say, but the darkness that had been trying to overtake his mind finally won the battle and Bo slumped forward against Luke as he dropped into unconsciousness.
Luke held Bo in his arms for a moment and then gently laid him down on the ground. Luke stood up slowly and faced Justin.
“He’s lying. I am your brother . . . he is just jealous.”
Luke shook his head. “My cousin don’t lie.”
Judd frowned, his plan had completely backfired.
“Why don’t you tell me truth? You tried to kill Bo, didn’t you?”
“You finally figured it out, took you long enough.” Justin said.
“Who are you really?’ Luke asked, and before Justin could answer he spoke. “On second thought I don’t really care all that matters is you tried to kill my cousin, and I will break every bone in your body for that.”
“Yeah right. I took your cousin out and I can take you out.” Justin said.
Luke glared at him, and stepped towards Judd, murder apparent in his eyes.
“You know Bo figured it all out long before you. He told me you would figure it out, but like I told him you aren’t that smart.” Justin said.
“You won’t get away with it.” Luke said.
“That is just what Bo said.” Justin said. “He was wrong, and so are you.”
     “Why did you hurt Bo?”
“I meant to kill him because he found out the truth.” Justin said, the two young men slowly circled each other like to wild animals ready to do battle.  “It was easy to take him out and he would be dead if you hadn’t interfered.
Luke rushed forward and planted a firm punch against Justin’s stomach. Justin stumbled back a couple of paces, and then smiled at Luke.
“This should be a good fight, don’t you think? Since we both have done boxing and won some championships.” Justin said.
“Yeah well you are going down.” Luke said.
“The only one, who has gone down is Bo.”
The two men charged at each other, exchanging punches for several moments, both drawing blood. Luke wiped the blood from his lip, with the back of his hand, watching Justin for his next attack.
“You know Bo ain’t looking so good. All the time you waste fighting me the worse he gets . . . soon I will have won and he will be dead.” Justin said.
Luke glanced over at Bo, noticed how pale Bo’s complexion was. Justin used the distraction and tackled Luke to the ground. He pinned Luke to the ground, and punched Luke in the throat. Luke coughed as his throat exploded with pain.
“What a fool, you know he is as good as dead, and you stop to look.” Justin said and laughed. “You are so gullible.”
Luke couldn’t catch his breath to respond he could only glared at the other man.
“Now that I have your attention I will explain all of this to you, if your tiny little mind can comprehend. My name is Justin Kane. I knew about your brother because my mother kidnapped him from the hospital . . . he is dead, he died shortly after. My mother set that fire to cover her tracks.”
Luke felt a cold rage race through him, finding a renewed strength and shoved Justin to the ground, and scrambled to his fight.
“Well be happy your brother didn’t die in that fire.” Justin said.
     “My parents did.” Luke said.
Justin shrugged. “Yeah oh well, tough break.”
“The only thing that is going break are your bones.” Luke said.
“Wrong. Your neck will be what breaks . . . after you watch your little cousin die.” Justin said.
“You . . .” Luke started to say but found he was too angry to finish his sentence, he lunged at Justin, landing several punches, feeling satisfaction at the feeling of one of Justin’s ribs breaking.
Justin gave a shocked cry of pain and stumbled backwards.
“I don’t care what story you have to tell.” Luke said, he stepped towards Bo, to check on his younger cousin, before finishing the fight with Justin, who the fight seemed to be going out of.
Judd rushed Luke, grabbing him around the neck. “None of that Luke, we ain’t through yet.”
Luke slammed his elbow backwards, connecting solidly with Justin’s stomach’s stomach, causing him to let go. Luke spun around to face Justin.
“Now play nice.” Justin said and smiled. “MY mother always said that to me about Judd . . . of course I didn’t play nice. I hated him, my mother loved him more. She never loved me.”
“Gee I wonder why, anyone would love a rattlesnake more then they would the likes of you.” Luke said.
“After he died . . . nobody really knows why . . .” Justin said and smiled.
“You had something to do with it didn’t you?”
Judd only smiled saying nothing. “My mother went crazy after that. Before she died she had lost her mind and I told her I was Judd. She believed me and loved me more because I was him.”
“What does that have to do with us Dukes?” Luke asked.
“Revenge, because Judd was a Duke and my mother loved him more then me. Since as him I was more loved I tracked you down. My plan would’ve worked if it hadn’t have been for Bo.” Justin said.
“Did you really think that nobody would find out?” Luke asked.
“Well yeah, otherwise I wouldn’t be here, I am not that stupid.” Justin said.
     “No, just psychotic.” Luke said.
“Enough talk.” Justin said and lunged at Luke, getting back into a boxing match.
This time Luke managed to get the upper hand in the fight, and beat Justin, with his balled up fist, until Justin dropped to his knees. Justin swayed back and forth, blood dripping from his nose, his face bruised, then he dropped to the ground. Luke’s body was racing with anger, and all he could think of was making Justin pay for his lies, pay for hurting Bo. Luke kicked Justin in the stomach several times, wanting to just beat him into a bloody pulp, carrying through on his threat to break every bone in his body. Luke took a deep breath and slowly released it, deciding that Justin was not worth it.
Luke knelt down and grabbed Justin by the front of his shirt and pulled his head up a few inches from the ground.
“You did have something to do with my brother’s death, didn’t you?” Luke asked.
Judd smiled. “So you aren’t as dumb as you look. Yes I did, I killed him, just like I had something to do with Bo’s death . . . he is no doubt dead by now.”
Luke shook Justin. “Why did you kill my brother?”
“Because as I said my mother loved him more . . . you could say I was jealous, I don’t like competition. Even if Bo hadn’t of found out, I was going to kill him, because you loved him more then you did your brother. As hard as I tried to take his place, you still loved him more.” Justin said.
“You aren’t my brother, and NOBODY could take Bo’ place.” Luke said.
“You know all this time you wasted on me you could’ve saved Bo’s life, you had a chance and you lost it. Just like you lost your parent and your brother you will lose Bo . . . and the latter two are by my own hand, the other my mother.” Justin said.
While holding Justin’s shirt in one hand, Luke raised his other fist and punched Justin straight against his nose, feeling the bone break beneath his hand. Luke let go of Justin, who dropped to the ground, after passing out from the harsh blow to the face.
Luke stood up and wiped the blood off on his shirt and rushed over to Bo’s side. With a trembling hand Luke checked for a pulse, giving a sigh of relief when he found on, it was beating quickly, with a steady pulse, Luke thought that perhaps Bo had just passed out. Luke pulled Bo’s body into his arms and held him close.
“Wake up Bo, please wake up cousin.” Luke said softly.
A moment later Bo moaned softly, a moan that was filled with pain.
     “Wake up Bo.”
Bo’s eyes opened slowly and locked on his older cousin.
“That’s it kiddo, wake up.” Luke said.
“What . . . where . . .” Bo started to question, unable to put his question in words.
“I took care of him, he is out cold.” Luke said.
     “Good.” Bo said softly.
Luke picked Bo up in his arms, and carried him inside, then called the state police to come get Justin, and also called Doc Appleby to come look at Bo.
The state police arrived first, Justin was still unconscious when they arrived. Four officers in all arrived at the Duke farm, in two separate cars, one went over to where Justin lay unconscious, while the other three went up to the house. Sergeant Mike Edwards knocked on the door, which was answered by Luke.
“I am Sergeant Edwards, with the Georgia State Police, are you the one who phone us?”
    “Yes sir.” Luke responded.
“Do you mind explaining to me what happened here.” Mike said motioning over to where Justin’s still form lay.
“It’s kinda a long story. If you come inside me and my cousin Bo can tell you about what happened.” Luke said.
The three men followed Luke inside. Mike looked concerned, when he saw Bo’s condition, the young man was quite pale, looking as though he was death warmed over. The two other officers stayed behind Mike, never speaking, one of them held a pad of paper, ready to write down everything Luke and Bo had to say.
“So if you would tell us the whole story, and state your names for the record.”
“I’m Luke Duke, and that is my cousin Bo. The guy outside is Justin Kane.”
“That name sounds familiar.” Mike said, trying to recall where he had heard the name Justin Kane before. “Peter, I want you to go out and have a run on the name.”
“Yes sir.” Peter said, and left the house.
“I don’t even know where to begin it is really kind of  a long story, you see Justin was posing a my brother, who we had thought was killed in a fire at the hospital shortly after he was born . . .” Luke said, and began to tell the two state officers the whole story. “Bo found out, but Justin had him kidnapped before he could say anything, and tried to kill him.”
Mike looked at Bo, thinking that explained the young man’s condition. “He had you kidnapped?”
“Yeah, he had two other guy helping him, but I only ever heard their first names . . . Milton and Barry.” Bo said.
“That’s okay, we can try to get that information from Justin. “ Mike said. “What exactly did you discover about Justin Kane?”
Bo was just about to answer when Peter walked back into the room.
“What did you find out?” Mike asked.
“He is wanted for two accounts of murder in Tennessee.” Peter said.
“That is what I read in the papers, they had a picture. I guess he had more then one reason for posing as Judd.” Bo said.
Mike nodded. “Your family as helped to capture a dangerous felony, there is a reward for his capture as well, one thousand dollars.”
“I don’t care about his past crimes, as much as I care about what he did Bo and my whole family. His mother started the fire at the hospital when she kidnapped my brother Judd, and Justin killed him. Then he came here and almost took my cousin away from me.” Luke said.
“I understand and he will tried for his crimes, don’t worry about that, he will be going away for a long time.” Mike said.
True to what Mike had said, after a trial Justin would be found guilty of kidnapping, to add to his already long list of crimes, and was sentence to two life sentences, however he would spend only two years in prison before he would commit suicide. Milton and Barry would be found the next day and both received fifteen years for kidnapping.
The state police where just finished their questioning when Doc Appleby arrived. By the time he had Justin’s body had already been loaded into the back of a patrol car, and nobody was concerned with giving him any medical attention. Doc Appleby checked Bo, while Luke stood close by, wishing there was more he could do.
“You really still should be in hospital, you shouldn’t have taken off like that.” Doc Appleby said in a scolding voice, though he understood why Bo had.
“I had no choice.” Bo said.
The kindly old doctor nodded. “I heard about the situation. You are actually quite lucky, your guardian angel was truly watching over you.”
Bo smiled. “Or something like that, maybe more like a cousin.”
“Does he have to go back to the hospital?” Luke said.
“No, all he needs is plenty of rest really, his body needs to purge itself of the poison, which it seems to be doing a good job of. I am sure he can get more rest at home then at the hospital.”
     “That’s for sure.” Bo said.
“I think you should go and lay down now in fact.” Doc Appleby said.
“I’ll just rest on the couch.” Bo said.
“Just don’t disturb him too much, no racing around.”  Doc Appleby told Luke.
    “I won’t.” Luke said.
Jesse and Daisy returned home after all the excitement had died down, and wondered whose car had smashed into the picnic table. They both shocked to see Bo laying on the couch, Luke was sitting on a nearby chair and the two cousins were talking.
“What’s going on here? What are you doing out of the hospital Bo?” Jesse asked.
“It’s a long story Uncle Jesse, I think that you and Daisy had better sit down.” Luke said.
The other two Dukes sat down in the front room, and Luke began to tell them the whole story, which took nearly twenty minutes to tell.
“I don’t believe it.” Daisy said.
     “It’s the truth.” Luke said.
     “I know I didn’t mean it that way I just mean . . . I am shocked.” Daisy said.
“You should’ve just called home, you could’ve been hurt bad driving that car here like you did.” Jesse said, though his voice revealed that he was proud of how brave Bo had been and the chance he took he revel the truth.
“I didn’t think of that at the time I guess.” Bo said.
They talked for several more minutes, Jesse and Daisy wanted to know everything that had happened, and like the boys were, they were still in shock. Later that day, Luke called Cooter and Sabrina to tell them everything that had happened. Sabrina said she would stop by the farm to see Bo before she left for Atlanta, glad that she would have a chance to see him before leaving. Cooter also went to the farm, to see Bo and to talk to the rest of the Dukes.
Cooter was the first to arrive.
“Hey Bo, how you feelin’?” Cooter asked.
“Tired, kinda like I’ve been trampled by a herd of cows.” Bo said.
“Well it’s great to see you awake again buddyro ad not pulling your sleeping beauty routine.” Cooter said.
“Well I just thought I need more sleep to become more beautiful then I already am.” Bo said.
“You need to sleep for a few century’s since your starting out with so little.” Luke said, obvious jokingly.
“Not as long you’d need cousin.” Bo said, in the same joking tone.
Sabrina arrived ten minutes after Cooter had, and he went into the kitchen with the other Dukes, to give Bo and Sabrina some privacy. Sabrina sat down the couch next to Bo.
“I’m so glad that you are okay, I was afraid I was going to lose you.” Sabrina said and hugged Bo.
“You couldn’t be so lucky.” Bo said joking.
“Maybe I shouldn’t be going to Atlanta now.” Sabrina said.
“Yes you should. You ain’t quitting no job because of me. Besides I think I will have enough people hovering over me like mother hens.” Bo said.
“I know but . . .” Sabrina started to say.
“No buts about it. You are going, after all you are on your way to being a supermodel.” Bo said.
     “I don’t know about that.”
“Well, I do. Now go, before you’re late.” Bo said.
     “I’ll miss you.” Sabrina said.
“I’ll miss you too sugar.” Bo said, giving Sabrina a quick kiss.
Sabrina said her good-byes to the rest of the Dukes and Cooter, and then left the farm for Atlanta. Cooter stayed for a while longer and left, deciding that Bo needed his rest, and so did everyone else, it was the first time any of them could relax in days.
Cooter fixed and returned Andrew’s car, to Andrew, the next day. Nobody talked much about what had happened, they were all still in too much shock. Bo spent most of the next two weeks sleeping, spending ninety percent of the day in bed it seemed, he only tended to stay awake for a few minutes at a time, the drug still having an effect on him, though it would leave no damage.
It was exactly two weeks after Justin had been exposed as the fraud that he was, that Luke went to the cemetery, with the real knowledge of what had happened to his brother. It was a beautiful day, so Luke had walked there, he had been there for nearly an hour, and never heard someone else walking towards him. Bo leaned on Luke’s shoulders.
    “Hey cuz.” Bo said.
“Hey. What are you doing out here, you should be resting.”
“I’ve been resting so long that I think I was starting to grow roots.” Bo said.
Luke smiled. “Yeah I guess . . . it has been two weeks.”
“What are you doing up here?” Bo asked.
“I guess I cam to say goodbye to Judd. I mean I always thought he was dead, now it is certain.” Luke said.
     “I’m sorry.” Bo said, sincerely.
“Don’t be. You know it is strange, I know my brother is dead, yet somehow I don’t think I feel the grief I should over such a thing.” Luke said.
“Maybe because you never knew him.” Bo said.
“That could be. You know you are more my brother then he is. I know I don’t tell you that often . . . I guess I just ain’t one for expressing how I feel, but it is the truth.”
“I know. You are the only brother I have ever had and could ever ask for.”
“I don’t know why I was so quick to believe Justin . . . I mean even if he was Judd it don’t excuse the way I was treating you.” Luke said.
“I won’t lie, while he was around I left like you were ignoring me, that you didn’t want me in your life, that I was no more then “just” a cousin. I felt like yesterday’s news.” Bo said.
“I’m sorry. I never meant to do that. I would never mean to hurt you.”
“I know that. And I think I can understand why you did it.” Bo said.
“Then could you explain it to me, because I don’t get it.” Luke said.
“Because, it was liking getting part of your parents back, getting something back that you lost a long time ago. I know that sounds kind of muddled but I don’t really know how else to say it.” Bo said.
“You know I think your right.” Luke said.
“Now there is something I don’t hear you say to often.” Bo said.
Luke chuckled. “Well it don’t happen that often.”
There was a couple moments of silence, before either of them spoke again.
“I am sorry Bo.” Luke said.
“You already said that.” Bo said.
“I know but I don’t feel that I can say it enough.” Luke said.
“You don’t have to say it, I know.” Bo said.
Luke smiled, grateful for Bo’s understanding, for the love of his cousin, who was so much more then just a cousin, his best friend, his brother. The two young men exchanged a brotherly hug.
“C’mon let’s get back to the farm, I think we need to tune up the General, he was quite running right when I drove him here.” Bo said.
“With the way you drive I am not surprised.” Luke said.
“Figures, considering who taught me how to drive.” Bo said.
Luke smiled. “Guess I got nobody to blame but myself.”
     “That’s right.” Bo said.
Bo slung his arm over Luke’s shoulder as they walked back towards their car. The sound of their laughter filled the air, like a beautiful music making it an even more beautiful day. It was the last time they would ever discuss what happened, their friendship went on just as strong as ever, everything that had occurred over those few days was nothing more then yesterday’s news.
