Scotty showed up in General Hospital at the request of his father's friend, Gail, to comfort her friend and Scotty's stepfather, Lee Baldwin, when Lee lost his wife and son. Scotty was a young law student. He came to Port Charles to comfort Lee, and he took a job as a clerk at General Hospital. He was also immediately smitten with a beautiful Laura Webber, who he eventually fell in love with and married. Losing Laura later on began his stretch as kind of a trouble-maker and manipulator. It sure was fun watching him. Then much later, after various love affairs and various scandalous activities, Scotty met and fell in love with Dominique Taub, who he eventually married. Dominique was dying, though, and her final gift to her beloved Scotty was a baby, who Lucy Coe had to carry to term, as Dominique's body was too weak and frail. Their daughter Serena was the result. Jumping ahead many years, Scotty and Serena have returned to Port Charles ...... thank goodness.
